I got very disappointed with this bbq. I have ordered "lean" beef brisket sandwich, mentioned a few times specifically - "lean", but I got this sandwich with half of the meat FAT. At this point it seems like a joke to call that sandwich lean, just check the photos. When I got the sandwich our waitress said that this sandwich is pretty lean, because "chopped" meat would have even more fat. My husband have ordered Sonny's sampler, his brisket was also very fat, at least chicken was good. The restaurant has more modern design with traditional barbecue flavors! We were pleasantly greeted and quickly seated. Large parking lot allows for easy access off the interstate. We enjoyed some of their baby back ribs, which were little less meaty and honestly not as moist as I prefer. We tried their barbecue eggroll, which was a creative fusion twist with some nice flavors, Unfortunately, the day we were there they were out of their brisket, which is my typical go to at a barbecue restaurant. I remember eating at Sonny's over a decade ago. Eager to reminisce over some good eats, I pulled into a Sonny's while in GA. Food: I ordered the brisket sandwich. It should have been named the fat brisket sandwich because HALF the meat was FAT. See the pic. I enjoy some marbling, but this is just a heart attack on a bun. If that wasn't bad enough for my health, after eating the corn nuggets, I noticed that the styrofoam container had melt marks where the nuggets were ... did I just eat melted styrofoam?! Visiting from CA and this BBQ place was DELICIOUS! the Alabama white sauce was so good on the wings. The ribs were so tender and flavorful. The meat fell off the bone. The Mac and cheese was a bit too soggy for my liking. The service was decent could be better. The wait for the waitress to take our order was a bit long. Took about 15 minutes after she sat us and we had to get her attention to finally order. She checked on us once. But we had to keep asking for napkins, more water etc... The ambiance was nice. The drinks were overpriced and tasteless. No real flavor. Very watery. Couldn't taste the liquor or the flavors of the drinks. Parking lot was nice. Not too hard to find a parking spot. Went to Sonny's and tried there BBQ. Ordered the Carolina sandwich and beans. The bun was well toasted, (any more, and it would be a huge crouton). The coleslaw on the sandwich was nothing special. The meat needed to be appropriately seasoned, you can get the fare they were offering from the local supermarket. Cleanliness, that's another story, menus were dirty, table was sticky and the place could use a good cleaning. Lesson learned, read the reviews before going here. read more

We went through drive through on our lunch break and decided to share a combo plate and a coke. Our total was $24. When we got to the window, we asked if she had accidentally charged us for 2 plates. No, she said. Just one. Okay, well, we thought for $24, we could have lunch and possibly some left over for later. When we got our food, there were 3 tiny, greasy pieces of meat and about 3 bites of each side item. Not even enough to fill a five year old child. I wish we would have taken a picture of how horrible this meal was. We went inside, got our money back and will never return. I will say though, the lady who was running drive thru was amazing. Stopped here tonight for supper. Sonny's are all the same, so I know what to expect when ordering from one location to the next. My son always orders the corn on the cob, which they no longer carry. We were bummed. We ordered our food, which came out rather quickly, but the food was rather underwhelming. No one's food was hot, only somewhat warm. The turkey was thick-sliced - it is supposed to be a thinner cut, and the fries were really salty, and I could not eat them. It makes me sad to write this review because we have been long-time Sonny's patrons, especially to this one restaurant, but this last visit has put us in a situation that we are probably not going to be eating here for awhile. We were seated promptly, per usual, and nothing seemed out of the norm. A table was vacated in the area we were seated in, and we noticed after some time that there was no one to bus that table off. We also noticed that we had not been greeted by our waitress, and in fact the tables around us had not been greeted or served either. One table had only ordered drinks, which they had been waiting on for a little while, and the other table had ordered food and drinks but had been waiting on their food for even longer than the first table. After about ten minutes, I tried to make contact with any waitress and when I did, she stomped over to the hostess and had a heated conversation with hand gestures towards our table, I can only assume she was complaining about having to serve our table when it may not have been her turn (?) which is strange because I feel like wait staff would have "a more the merrier" attitude, but whatever. So instead of her coming over to greet us after this heated conversation with the hostess, she stomps over to another waitress and continues her heated conversation with hand gestures towards us. Now, we aren't "regulars" at this Sonny's but we do go pretty often and did not recognize any of the staff but I don't think we look as if we are going to be painful customers! I was almost hurt by all the hand gestures towards us! At that point I asked my husband if we could please leave because I didn't want to stay and eat somewhere when the wait staff had to argue about who had to serve us. The part that really made me mad was when we walked past the hostess and told her we were leaving because nobody came to greet us, she acted as if this was the first she heard about it, even though I watched her get chewed out by a waitress about us being seated in her section. We were planning on having our Thanksgiving catered with Sonny's this year but we can safely say that we will be going in an alternate direction. read more

I've been going to various Sonny's locations for decades. Sonny's has some of the best baked beans of any BBQ restaurant I've visited, this location is no exception. Most BBQ restaurants really underwhelm in this area. I find the meat itself to be 3 star at this location. Not exceptional but pretty average. The chicken is often on the dry side. I love the ginormous drinking cups. Pretty awesome since you aren't always waiting on a server to come back for fill ups. They have good tea, both sweet and unsweetened. The servers I have gotten at this location have all been very nice. No complaints here. My last comment has to do with Sonny's overall, not this location in particular. The sauces. I find it crazy that my two favorite sauces are now only available in small packets. If you are looking for the old main sauce it is not the "original" located on your table, but you need to ask for "mild" sauce packets. They also have the mustard sauce, that used to be on the table, available in packets. I liked it better when it was on the table. It was a thinner consistency than it is now. This location has the newer Sonny's design which feels modern and clean. Will return. read more

I'm a pretty harsh BBQ critic. This was a stop en route between Orlando and St. Louis. General thoughts: -LOVED the sliced pork. Probably best part of the meal. My buddy crushed his smoked turkey sandwich. Party of 5 well satisfied - Service met standards. Prices are on par with BBQ establishments. -Portions won't be enough for some. - Staff needs to check on the restroom more often. This visit was a miss. My drink I ordered a Coke Zero and they gave me sweet tea - I don't really care for sweet tea I think it's too sweet! Well they got the recipe RIGHT! It was the best mistake ever it was delicious I had all of it and I want more! I grabbed a fry because well soggy fries suck and I was driving. Oh Em Gee - crinkle cut fries perfectly crispy and season delicious I devoured them and I want more! Now for the main attraction the Brisket Sandwich I AM IN LOVE WITH SONNY's MEAT (take that as you wish). This was some of the best brisket I've ever had. I was driving home to Florida from Ohio and was craving some bbq. I saw the Sonny's billboards along the interstate and decided to stop in. I drove at least a mile and a half to find it. I parked and walked. Got seated promptly and the server came over to take my drink and food order. Food was served to the table in a good amount of time. I took off the sides off the plate and saw the amount of fries on the plate. I asked my server if this the right portion for the dinner plate, she replied, "I think they winged it." A little while later she did bring me some more fries. So I started eating my sliced pork. There was two slices of pork covering a pile of shredded pork. I have been eating at one Arby's barbecue or another for the last 25 years, here in Valdosta Georgia though I noticed that the quality continued to decrease, today I spent $23 via DoorDash and I received the absolute worst food that I have ever eaten, it was dry it was old it was tasteless, my grandson could cook better ribs and better barbecue chicken that what I have wasted my money on today! Since the pandemic it's almost inedible so much fat I mean like whole pieces of fat that they definitely should have threw in the garbage but they put it on your plate instead. Sonny's never disappoints. The best ribs you're gonna find anywhere. Excellent scratch made sides. (the beans and the green beans, Cole slaw and cornbread are amazing. Service was fast and friendly and we find the rib prices to be fair. We will be back next time we roll through town. read more
