My family and I stopped by Soo Cafe for the first time yesterday to grab some takeout. Of course, we had to try their Korean fried chicken as that is what they are most known for. We got 10 tenders with their soga (soy garlic) sauce and 10 wings (split into 5 flats and 5 drumettes) with their old fashioned sauce (which is described as "sweet, sour, and spicy" on the menu). Both the tenders and wings were perfectly crispy and delicious even after the 30 minute drive for us to get home. However, I will say I enjoyed the overall style and texture of the soga sauce much more than I did the old fashioned sauce; the soga sauce absolutely coats all of the tenders whereas the wings with the old fashioned sauce weren't fully coated as you can see in the photos. Additionally, the portions are good for what you're paying in my opinion ($13 for 10 tenders or wings with one sauce), and we definitely have a ton of leftovers to enjoy tomorrow! read more

I've had Korean fried chicken multiple times in both the NYC and Boston area, but this has got to be one of my favorites! The chicken wings are fried with the perfect batter of crispy, saucey, and crackly goodness while the meat inside is so juicy and tender. I've had the SoGa and Old Fashioned sauces and LOVED both of them. The SoGa sauce tastes like a sweet soy, garlic, honey, and ginger mix while the Old Fashioned sauce has a slightly sweet but bold gochujang (Korean red pepper/soybean paste) flavor. You'll find that the wings are pretty big and the sauces are VERY sticky, but all the more delicious!! read more

This place was very good. I had bulgogi and I also tried the chicken. Both dishes were very good. There was not a number of side dishes like at most Korean resteraunts. I was offered kimchi. The food did come with romaine lettuce to wrap my meat in. That is something pretty common in Korea. They had K-pop playing on the tv. The place was spacious. I was the only diner when I arrived. There were 2 other parties when I left. I would consider returning here if work brings me back to this area again. read more

I got a takeout order of 6 wings with sauce on the side and an order of pork bibimbap. The food was fine but nothing remarkable. In my opinion it was overpriced. Even though I didn't get served at a table, I give a tip for takeout because the staff still has to get my order right and pack everything up for the trip home. This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Raleigh.. a true hidden gem that I only found out about this past summer during covid. A good friend turned me onto soo cafe. And I live it with all my heart. I love the chicken tenders plain with the original sauce on the side and the spicy beef bulgogi. For the price it's so worth it; however, I wish they included more of their sticky rice!! It's so good!! Like I crave their sticky ricers is. I just wish the chicken came with it too!! I also wish they delivered but it's worth the bus ride round trip just to get the pleasure of ordering to go to bring home. If you haven't had Korean Fried Chicken you are missing out! I use to eat it a lot when I lived near Boston so I was excited to find it here in Raleigh as well. If you think all fried chicken is the same, you haven't had Korean Fried Chicken. They use tasty, tasty, sauce and make the chicken so crispy. They must double fry it, usually sauce makes wings soggy but not here! My favorite sauce is probably the original followed by the Soga. They both have a sweet and savory flavor, the Soga has a bit more spice to it. I've gotten both tenders and wings, while tenders are easier to eat you just can't beat the juiciness of the wings. I've been in a few times and on the last visit my husband want to branch out to the beef bulgogi, it was a big hit. The beef had so much flavor and really melted in your mouth. We also got the veggie bimbimbap as a side to go with the chicken. It was quite tasty! Basically if Korean Fried Chicken isn't your thing there are still plenty of tasty options on the menu. Service is always friendly and efficient. The chicken takes a bit longer since they fry it fresh, unless you specify the other dishes will come out first and then the chicken will arrive later once it has been friend to perfection. If you want it all at the same time just tell them that when ordering. The place is never packed so it's an awesome spot if you are looking for a last minute option for a group. Soo Cafe is my all time favorite place to get Korean fried chicken. It's seriously the best I've ever had. I don't usually sit in and eat there, so I normally order to go. The staff is so considerate - if you order wings, they'll cut a hole at the top of your box so your wings don't get soggy! However, I usually get the sauce on the side when I get it to go, since I don't want to risk losing the crispiness. I go with the "old fashioned" sauce (spicy and sweet). So I stopped into this spot, in lieu of going next door to El Dorado. First timer, but thanks to Yelpers giving it a 4.5 curiosity got the best of me. The ambiance was unique. Lots of greenery and a big screen tv playing music videos (k-pop?!?) back-to-back. I found this slight annoying because it was too loud, and just didn't seem to fit the scene. The server was a young lady that seemed as though she wanted to be anywhere else then serving me... I get that. We all are susceptible to those type of days. I ordered the famed Korean Fried Chicken. Having never experienced it, I don't know if the version was the standard. However I LOVED it! The Soga sauce on them was so tasty, and the chicken was fried perfectly. I got a side of rice, which was plain and slightly buttered maybe. I could've did without it (bland, blah)however they don't have any more sides to choose from (minus a star). They really should do something about that or maybe just turn this place into a take-out for KFC?!? I don't know... I do know that most diners like sides to their meat option. One of the better Korean places in town in my opinion. I have been here multiple times and prefer to order out. The restaurant is nice but a little dated. Servers are super sweet and helpful with the menu. My favorite thing to order by far is the chicken!! We love the Old Fashioned sauce- wish it was a little more spicy. NC H&S is also a good sauce but the spice can be a tad overwhelming. Beef and chicken bulgogi were both delicious. My mom ordered the bibimbap and she said it was pretty good. Will be back again but will probably only order takeout due to the lack of ambiance- might as well eat freely in my sweats! KFC is not a dainty meal :) read more

I am not well-versed in the art of Korean fried chicken, but I know I like the chicken wings at Soo Cafe. The flavors are good, the skin is crispy, and the meat is tender and juicy. What more could you ask for in a chicken wing? The sides that come with the chicken aren't anything special, and my wife said the bibimbap dish she tried was just ok The service was lacking, though. Granted, we were a large group, but the restaurant was not busy, and we had to track down extra silverware, napkins, etc., since our waiter didn't check on us as frequently as he probably should have. You have to try their signature chicken wings (try SoGa to start) they are perectly fried with a sweet and spicy chilli sauce over them, they are just the best. The food was not fresh. Everything I tried tasted like it had been sitting out to long. It was dry and waxy. They didn't have real plates. They had the cheap thin paper plates only to put your food on. The chicken was so overcooked it was hard to chew so I didn't eat it. The rice was hard and dry. The vegetables was cold. The plastic cups they bring you your drinks in looked dirty. Than when I asked for my check I paid only the charge they charged me and the waitress had the nerve to ask me why I didn't leave a tip on my receipt. These wings are the bomb and can Monica Lewinsky all over your blouse lmao. The wangs are juicy and crispy and saucy all at the same time. Soga Sauce is sweet and spicy and definitely worth a try. The wings are a bit pricy; ten cost $13. But hey, they are good quality wings. Just be careful because one wrong bite and the chicken will orgasm all over your shirt and you'll be stuck with greasy glaze on your shirt. So be careful. The wings are sooooo good. They are served piping hot with the best crunch to the outside. The flavor of the sauce is wonderful. The combination of the wings with a bowl of rice is perfect. The moment we walked in, I was impressed with the native decor and K pop playing in the background. When i looked at the menu, i noticed it was very short and to the point, which i didn't mind. We decided to order the gyoza, my husband ordered the hot beef bibmbop, and i ordered the galbi small dish. Now the regular galbi dish was 24.99 i think so i figured its probably for 2 and the small was 16.99. Traditionally bulgogi or galbi comes with rice, several small pickled dishes. Well for 17 dollars i got some rice, about 8 bites of meal and a pathetic bowl of lettuce. The bibimbop had no flavor. Totally serviceable KFC and really good service, though I have found all the sauces to be 1) a little too cloying and 2) not at all spicy. That said, I like that there's an option for boneless and the price point/atmosphere are both much better than H Mart. My mom and I stopped in today after seeing the great reviews. The wings here are top tier -- no lies were told in this review section. My mom got the 10pc wing w/ the original SoGa sauce, and I got the 5pc tender soopreme (SoGa+another sauce... I got it with Old-Fashioned, I believe). All of Soo's sauces have spice, but SoGa is the tamest. The old-fashioned was definitely spicier, though not as spicy as some of their other sauces. While I preferred my sauce, I cannot say the same for the tenders. Good crunch, but not as good in size or texture of the meat as virtually any other tender I've had. TL;DR: Come. Get the wings. My go to place for Korean fried chicken!!! Moving from CA where bomb asian food is aplenty, I struggled with finding a good spot in NC. I was soooo happy to have found Soo Cafe. I crave their crack chicken sometimes and it's hard not to give in. I've had great service in house and never had any issues with doing takeout. Now I understand the delicious hype surrounding Korean Fried Chicken. Soo Café's Korean Fried Chicken is Soo Good. Although they have several sauces, I have only tried & love the "Old Fashioned". This is not a fancy restaurant. This is a casual restaurant that unfortunately has fallen off the radar in the foodie scene. I love that it has a spacious area that that can cater to both small and large groups. They have a couple widescreen TVs going on in the background with Korean pop which can be fun and amusing at the same time. I wish I could say that I've tried other things on the menu, but I keep coming for the Korean Fried Chicken. If you are with a group of one or more, definitely try the pork belly as an appetizer. Let me say that the new Cafe Soo is on track to be amazing. They bought an old Japanese/Vietnamese joint and are working their tails off to make it uniquely Korean. They are painting, carving, and styling that place to look just like some neat places you might see in Cheongdam, Seoul. Very impressive. They have a beer and wine bar, a very large dining area, a neat waiting area, and the best part, noraebang! Noraebang is available (for free), in the private party room which requires at least 10 people for access, but considering that Star Karaoke charges $40.00/hr for this, I'd say that this is a real winner. The one challenge they have is timing. If you have a large group and know what kind of chicken you want, call ahead. I've been to multiple places in the dc area that offer yangnyum chicken (Korean fried chicken with sweet and spicy sauce) and although this place is one of very few Korean restaurants to offer it in the triangle, it's JUST as good if not better than the ones in dc! The chicken's breading perfectly absorbed all the soga sauce but was still miraculously crunchy!! ^(likewise with their fried shrimp, wahoo) The meat of the chicken remained perfectly juicy as well~ My only criticism is that their wings and fried shrimp were slightly on the smaller side. If you're not into fried stuff, they have other things on their menu like bibimbap, bulgogi, etc. but I highly recommend everyone just giving their fried chicken (with soga sauce) a go! Our server was kind and made sure we were happy with everything at all times. They have tvs playing kpop music videos which is always fun to watch while waiting for delicious food! What makes Soo Cafe such an amazing place? Superb chicken and fantastic service! Upon the commendation of a coworker, I realized that I had not been back to Soo Cafe in ages and I was missing out on their famous Korean fried chicken. On my most recent visit, we ordered the Old Fashioned and Soga (soy garlic) wings and both were deliciously spicy. In my opinion, it was the perfect level of spice in that the heat was there but you could still enjoy the other flavors. There was an option for a more extreme spice level but not for no spice at all. The menu warns you that if you do not like spicy, do not order a sauce but you can still order the fried wings. We each ordered the 5 wings and 1 drumstick and were pleased to see how huge the pieces of chicken were. The establishment is nicely decorated in the bright traditional Korean colors and the TV typically has KPop music on which is interesting to watch. The service matches the quality of the food; it is exceptional. They are extremely friendly and informative. read more
