We ordered the seafood pancake, donkatsu, and tofu soup. Everything came out delicious, well balanced in flavor, and the portions were generous. The seafood pancake had a nice crisp and was a large portion with loads of seafood, the donkatsu was satisfying, and the tofu soup was comforting and flavorful. The owner was super sweet as well and kept refilling our water which was a good sign. Always love coming here with friends. I ordered the kimchi stew, which unfortunately didn't have much meat or rice cakes. But it was still delicious! The Seoul Garden in Cary has a good selection of Korean food. The price is moderately high, but it is worth the extra couple of dollars. The food was fresh and not too salty. I had the galbi tang (beef rib soup). There was plenty of meat and the soup had a great flavor. There was 3 large pieces of radish in my soup, that other Korean restaurants don't usually add. However, it was still good and probably more healthy for me. There is plenty of seating. (Indoor only). There are even large tables for larger groups. The place is clean. Our server took our order and the food came out 10 to 15 minutes later. Pretty quick! There is also plenty of parking. As a DMV native, I've been spoiled by the variety and quality of Korean food. It took me a while to find a good Korean spot in the Cary area. FOOD I've been here twice with a group and have been able to try a variety of the dishes offered here. Some highlight dishes: bossam (especially the pork, the oyster that came with it were okay too, but nothing crazy), and the stone pot bibimbap. That being said this is still by far one of the better Korean spots in the area. The value is great too. Definitely planning on checking out their lunch menu one of these days. SERVICE The service here is a little inconsistent. The first time we came here, our server was a lady who came to check on our table, made sure all our side dishes were refilled, and overall very friendly. She was not working when we went the second time and the only times the server stopped by was when they gave us the QR, brought out of food and towards the very end when we needed the check. We were looking for some refills during the meal, but no one stopped by. The food and bill came out pretty quick. AMBIANCE You know an Asian spot is going to be GOOD when the place itself isn't all decked out. This used to be a really good place. They apparently changed ownership a while back. I've been twice since then and was disappointed both times. Servers seemed slow and not attentive at all. Smaller portions than before, and this last time, my food (even the hot stone bowl dish) was warm at best. It used to be so much better. It's a shame. The last time I was here I felt discriminated against as a white person. All of the other customers were Asian and were sitting in the large dining area. Although there was more tables, they sat me in another room. I ignored it. This time I hadn't been there in a very long time. I figured the wait staff had changed by then and maybe it was just that person. When I got my order they also bring small bowls of kimchi, daikon radish and such. Everyone else in the restaurant got 5 or 6 bowls, I only got 2. When the waitress filled everyone's water glass, she skipped my table. I then got a shrimp spine that was in my Cham Pong stuck in the roof of my mouth. As I was pulling it out she approached my table and asked me what that was. I told her it was a shrimp spine and she fussed at me for eating too fast. Anyone that knows me knows I'm always the last to finish a meal. THE LAST 3 TIMES I ordered from Doordash as it has been horrible. I had switched to Doordash because they do not treat non-Asian customers the same....to the point I have had to get up and get my own boxes because we were flat out ignored. Tonight's order was terrible. The seafood pancake (a staple I order every single time) had 9 salad sized shrimp in the whole 8 peices (I pulled the whole thing apart), a single chopped green onion, and no squid. It was 90% breading and incredibly chewy. 0/10. The Dolsot Bipimap had 1 tablespoon of meat...literally. It was far from the standard set when they opened. I was so disappointed. There is no hiding ingredients or altering the taste to adjust others- proudly presenting the true taste of korea. Taste: ordered bulgogi & nengmyun combo for $16. That is pretty good deal for two entre. Enough for two people. Nengmyun was legit. Only thing that was missing was mustard and vinegar condiment- spicy and savory sauce ( also cold broth version available). Kind, delicious, and friendly staff, but seriously lacking in the ambience/decor area. The food was overall delicious. Some in my party thought the fried rice was a little salty whereas others thought it was seasoned perfectly. With that in mind, I recommend going with two to three other people to share the food order. I thought the Haemul Udon Bokkeum spicy level was low enough to enjoy. Be aware that the spicy flavor builds and increases. The more you eat the spicier the dish gets. The squid and octopus was over cooked, but the mussels were really good. I didn't care for the udon noddles and would recommend the rice cakes instead. The wait staff is very friendly and busy. Don't expect them to keep checking on you. This is something we really liked about the experience. Prices was it is around $13 - $16. I think very reasonable. We would go back to try other menu items. read more

It is good to be *home* where I was born and raised. Now Columbia has a lot of Korean restaurants due to military base but I still haven't found a good place that serves jajangmyeon and tangsuyuk (especially with the taste I'm used to)..but trust me I'm still in search! I came up to NC to visit my parents and scheduled dinner with one of my girlfriends. I was craving tangsuyuk and jajangmyeon so we came to Seoul garden. I already been here before so it was a no brainer. It was a Thursday night so not busy and I was seated immediately. I really wanted (more like needed) a drink but I stuck with water. I ordered my food and it wasn't even 5 minutes when it came out. I was pleased cuz when I say I was HUNGRY. it was everything I wanted. The noodles were creamy from the black bean sauce and slightly more than al dente which I prefer. Tasted like heaven. The tangsuyuk wasn't overly coated in sauce so it was still crunchy and the sauce was tangy. Every bite was perfect. Black bean sauce never looks appetizing or appealing but if people honestly gave it a try, they'd be amazed at the flavor. It is easily hands down one of my favorite Korean noodle dishes. And you can't have it without tangsuyuk. Obviously you can tell I was happy after this dinner. Please go try if you haven't already. They also have other traditional items as well like bibimbap, bulgogi, etc. Our waiter was very sweet as well and explained side dishes that my friend didn't know. I came here to the Cary location for lunch with a friend a few days back. We'd been fans of Golden Pig and were happy to try Seoul Garden for the first time and it did not disappoint. The food was certainly on par with Golden Pig and still with great service. We started by perusing the menu via their QR code and decided to put our old favorites to the test. We ordered the raspberry wine and water to drink. To eat, we ordered the spring rolls, beef bibimbap in a stone bowl, and the galbi lunchbox. The spring rolls come in 5-6 small pieces (about two bites each). They came out first and we're piping hot and crispy. The filling is well seasoned and fresh. We were very pleased. The lunch box comes with miso soup, salad, 1 piece of Korean Sushi, 2 pieces of tempura veggies, a fried dumpling, a piece of katsu, 4 or so pieces of galbi and steamed rice. The bibimbap comes in a large stone bowl and is a healthy portion for sure. One thing is for sure, the flavors are spot on. The meat in both dishes is perfectly seasoned and perfectly tender with the right amount of fat. As always the accompaniments are out of this world and always the perfect complement to the entrees and always worth a second round. Though pricey for lunch it was $25 well spent. The decor is clean and the space has been modernized since Golden Pig's time. It remains one of the things I loved about the old space and that's the group dining in the back. This location is snuggled in the heart of Cary just a stone's throw from Apex and Morrisville. making it easy to grab a solid bite whenever you're craving Korean cuisine in that area. Between this location and the North Raleigh location, Seoul Garden makes good Korean food accessible in the area. read more

Had the first non-takeout Korean I've had since a few weeks before Covid hit at the Golden Pig (which used to be in this space) tonight and it was fantastic. Fried dumplings were adeptly fried and obviously homemade -- crispy and delicious. The banchan preceding the meal were plentiful and tasty -- one was a bizarre tasting macaroni salad with raisins but the rest were great! My wife's bulgogi was delicious -- not fatty at all and perfectly cooked. My friend's fried rice was allegedly delicious too though I didn't try it. All of that said my Jae Yuk Bossam was even better; it was in fact fantastic! The pork belly was perfectly cooked and the Napa cabbage, jalapeños and garlic were perfectly pickled. This place used to be the Golden Pig. For whatever reason it's now been taken over by Seoul Garden. This is affiliated with the location in Raleigh on Atlantic Ave. I'm so loving this new second location in Cary because it's so much closer to me now and I don't have to drive as far out because I absolutely am in love with the first location. I'd visit it more often if it wasn't so far for me. Well now I can! What's surprising to me was how affordable the pricing of their dishes were. A lot of them may be even cheaper than the food court at Hmart. Certainly more affordable than a lot of the Asian joints in the triangle. I did not feel ripped off at all for what I got *cough* Taste Vietnamese and their overpriced misleading menu *cough*. We ordered: Combination Soon Doo Boo: $11.99 Mul Naengmyun: $10.99 Ja Jang Myun: $10.99 Haemool Pajun (seafood pancake): $13.99 Every time I went to the Raleigh location I made it a point to get their ja jang myun. The flavors they concocted was straight fire and this new location is no exception. Absolutely delicious. Best in the triangle. The mul naengmyun was stunning as well. It was my first time trying the dish. The dish is served cold - it was buckwheat noodles in a cold beef broth which had a bit of a sour tang to it. The chill factor made it a very refreshing dish to try and was just a treat to my taste buds. Soon doo boo was on point as well. We got it pretty spicy and you could definitely taste the heat. The seafood pancake was pretty good as well - maybe a little on the dry side but still okay. They started us out with all the various banchans too before bringing us our order. Loved loved loved the banchans they served us particularly their fish cake, seaweed, and macaroni salad. Customer service was absolutely fantastic as well. Our server was always all smiles when checking up on us and interacted with our kids pretty happily. She came often to see if we wanted more banchan which was a huge plus for us. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this new spot. I will be coming often to get my Korean fix. The price point coupled with the flavor bombs make this place hard to dislike. This is Seoul Garden's second location (first one is in Raleigh) and it's so nice that it's close to me. Always enjoy getting the naeng myun + meat lunch combo, whether it's galbi or spicy pork. The only thing that makes me give this place court stars is the service. There has been some instances when they didn't acknowledge us when we came into the place and been slightly rude while serving (especially when busy). I liked Golden Pig better than Seoul Garden. My wife and friends agreed. In general, I thought the food we had from Golden Pig was more enjoyable than the food we had from Seoul Garden. Not that the food from Seoul Garden was bad, but there were parts of dishes we didn't like. We didn't have that problem with Golden Pig. A little background: This is Seoul Garden's second Triangle location. Their original location is in Raleigh: https://bit.ly/3c5fSxy. I don't think these two Seoul Garden restaurants (Cary and Raleigh) are affiliated with the Seoul Garden restaurant in Greensboro: https://bit.ly/345S9cZ. Seoul Garden Cary replaced Golden Pig when Golden Pig closed in 2020: https://bit.ly/3f5vCT0. If you ever went to Golden Pig, Seoul Garden hasn't done much to the restaurant space. They repainted the outside from gold to gray. Inside, they've opened the space up and modernized it a bit. No more half-wall partitions in the main dining room. Gone is the old-fashioned, homey decor. The bar area was actually in use during my visit. It feels more like a "restaurant" now than eating at grandma's house. That said, the place still felt a bit bare to me and I think it could use more in terms of ambiance. I could be wrong, but I think Seoul Garden is an upgrade from Golden Pig in terms of menu selection. Seoul Garden offers more specialized and adventurous Korean dishes than Golden Pig did. That was my impression when first looking at Seoul Garden's menu. For example, they serve Eun Deh Gu Jorim a.k.a. Daegu Jorim which is soy-braised cod ($29.99) and Yumso Jungol a.k.a. Yeomso Jeongol which is black goat hot pot ($35.99). We got the Gopchang Jungol (Jeongol; $35.99). In metro Atlanta, I'm a fan of these restaurants called Gopchang on Fire: http://bit.ly/2NlVHi1. Gopchang is Korean for beef intestines (small intestines) and pork intestines (large intestines). Those restaurants specialize in gopchang. Seoul Garden Cary's Gopchang Jungol was my first time trying gopchang in the Triangle. Unfortunately, we were disappointed in both the taste and texture of the gopchang. Note we ordered takeout and, unbeknownst to us, the cooking for the Gopchang Jungol had to be finished off at home by us. The containers of broth, deep-orange-red in color from the chili/spices, were hot when I picked them up. The other ingredients - meats, veggies, and carbs - were served cold in a tray. Each meat was in its own small plastic bag. The meats included chopped beef intestine, tripe, and slices of "regular" beef (not sure which cut). The tripe was frozen. The slices of beef were well-marbled. The veggies included short leafy greens, cabbage, scallions, and mushrooms. The carbs included udon noodles and rice cakes. Other ingredients included tofu cubes and fish cake. The broth was flavorful and the ingredients were fresh. Both the tripe and beef were good. I really liked the tripe. However, the intestines were bland and had an off-putting, unpleasant, and gritty lining on the inside. Intestines can be hit or miss for me and this was a miss. Another special dish we had was the Jae Yuk Bossam a.k.a. Jeyuk Bossam. At Seoul Garden Cary, this dish comes in two sizes: small for $15.99 and large for $29.99. The large size comes with raw oysters. The small size does not. Again unfortunately, the oysters weren't good. I love raw oysters, but Seoul Garden Cary's version were not pleasant at all, not even when eaten with the accompanying seafood sauce. It was just fishy all around. It tasted bad. We ended up cooking the raw oysters in the Gopchang Jungol soup above. That way, the oysters were palatable. An additional issue we had with the bossam was the spicy pickled radish that came with it. Like the oysters, it tasted a little weird and fishy. Other than that, everything else that came with the bossam was good. There was lots of meat. The menu described it as pork belly, which was obvious from all the layers of fat and meat. There was cartilage too, which I liked. The bossam meat wasn't as tender as I've had at other restaurants, but it was still OK. The meat came with ssamjang which is a salty, fermented soybean paste condiment. Other ingredients included napa cabbage (to wrap), pink daikon, and pickled garlic and jalapeno. I do recommend the bossam if you've never had it before. Lastly, we tried an order of the Dduk-Bok-Kee a.k.a. tteok-bokki ($10.99). These are spicy stir-fried rice cakes. I order these often when I go to Korean restaurants. A popular Korean snack food, these have become more of a comfort food to me. Seoul Garden Cary's version was fine. The consistency of the rice cakes was harder than we would have liked. In the Triangle, I think Bonchon in Chapel Hill has superior rice cake texture (softer, more delectable). Banchan (side dishes) included kimchi, vinegared daikon and jalapeno, broccoli, bean sprouts, and noodle salad. Portions should have been bigger. Service was good. BLUF: Such range in flavors! Spicy, sweet and sour, light and umami. Each dish we ordered excelled. It was very difficult narrowing down to the six (6) dishes we ultimately chose. Both the Kan Poong Gi and Tangsuyuk were nicely fried and crisp. The Haemool Pajun was excellent with crisp exterior and moist interior. The clear monkfish soup was a great way to end the meal. It was full of flavor and yet light and cleansing after the other saucier dishes. So many other dishes we wanted to try and our stomachs are too small. Oh woe is us, what a life... There was one dish in the bonchon no one liked, it was a sweet macaroni salad with overly mushy pasta, raisins, and such. I'll go out of my way to visit any Korean place that offers eun deh gu jorim (stewed black cod dish with turnips and tofu), and this place does. Luckily, 7 of my friends were also willing to go out of their way, and we were able to have a big family style dinner and sample a bunch of different things! I'll start with the not-so-great: - Many of their dishes are unnecessarily sweet. Particularly the beef bulgogi, which has almost a sugar-candy coating. - The 'Korean BBQ' dishes really have no business being called that or costing as much as they do. At any other place, they would come out with wraps, extra fermented veggies, etc. Here it's just a tiny bowl of rice and a small plate of meat and onions - and it's in the high $20's - $30's depending on what you order. - The service was bad enough to impact our meal - usually I won't write about service because who cares, but he gave us beer bottles with no way to open them, sundubu with no spoons or serving bowls, and took almost half an hour to get the table some water. They were clearly understaffed and it wasn't wholly his fault, but still. The good: - They had one of the best haemool pajeon I've had in recent memory, really crispy, puffed, and fresh. I didn't even mind that they didn't serve it with any sauce. - Good tteokbokki. This dish can get pretty gummy and, honestly, boring after a few bites, but they kept it interesting with a light sauce and lots of cabbage and onions - What can be an oft-small, afterthought fried mackerel in other places was a behemoth, crisp, tender, meaty monster here! This side dish could have been a full meal. - Once we had spoons to eat our sundubu with, that was also delicious! read more

I am really happy that Seoul Garden opened a location in Cary! The location in Raleigh was always my favorite Korean restaurant by far! And not just in the area, it's better than any Korean restaurant I've been to in Washington DC! The location and Cary is nowhere near as nice as their Raleigh location, but it looks like they're not finished with the renovations. Luckily the food is just as excellent as the Raleigh location!
