I was in dire need for my bridesmaid dress to get altered and Nordstrom's had a 10 day minimum timeframe on all items. So I searched Yelp and Sook Hi's had high ratings and I thought I'd give it a go. I called ahead of time to make sure it could get done within a week before I had to head to the mainland for the wedding. She said it would be fine, I came in around 4 PM on a Wednesday and we chose the latest date it needed to be done by (1 week). The bridesmaid dress needed to get hemmed and taken in and then another cocktail dress needed to get taken in. By Friday morning around 10 AM she texted me that my dresses were ready...so fast! The dresses were perfect. I'm in two more weddings this year and will definitely be bringing my dresses here for any alternations! 10/10 recommend Sook Hi's Alterations! Cash is recommended, but she takes card payments for over $100. Prices are comparable to others around the island. Parking is easy and free. read more

Suki is one of THE sweetest people ever! I called around to a few different places to ace some pants shortened since they were just way too long, and Suki fit me in the same day. When I went whomever was working the shop said they no longer alter wedding dresses and the owner said they were "busy" My wedding is in September of next year it is currently May. I took my lace wedding dress to Sook to have it hemmed and add some bra cups. I was worried I would loose the gorgeous design that was at the bottom of the dress but some how magically she brought it up from a seam where the fitted part met the flowing part! I have no clue how she did it but it fell to the perfect length and I still have the pretty design. She is top notch at what she does that's for sure. Do not hesitate. Wow just wow. Sook has magical hands! She was able to let out my wedding dress by 2inches and this was so important to me because I truly could not breathe in my wedding dress. David's Bridal was only willing to let out 1/2 inch and wanted to keep my dress for a full month, Sook only needed two weeks. I was having such a hard time losing weight and was stressing endlessly every time I would eat and work out. At one point I didn't want to eat anymore but Sook took away my worries. When I went back to pick up my dress and tried it on I cried tears of joy! So much stress was lifted off my shoulders. Not only did I felt listened to but cared for. Would give this place zero stars if it was an option. Took my bridesmaids dress and a suit here for alterations. After the lady was done pinning the items, she informed me the dress would be $60 to hem since it was a "double layer dress." I told her I would think about it, get quotes from other places and call her if I wanted her to do the alterations on the dress. The suit she told me would cost $80 for a pant and sleeve hem. (I was in a rush to get the suit hemmed, so I told her to work on that item. I never did tell the lady to work on the dress.) A friend picked up the items for me when I received a text that they were ready. I was upset to find out that she had hemmed the dress, which I did not tell her to do. Which my friend reminded her of when he picked up the items. She apologized and said she would give us a discount of $20. Fast forward to when I actually had the opportunity to look at the alterations. The sewing on the dress is extremely crooked, the buttons on the suit are not lined up and are on top of one another. Not to mention, the buttons are sewed on the outside of the lining. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ITEMS HERE FOR ALTERATIONS. It is extremely overpriced for the poor workmanship they do. read more

I turned to Yelp to find a seamstress near my workplace and my fellow Yelpers did not disappoint me. This shop is located on Sheridan Street across from Sam's Club and the building has its own parking lot. I hate having to look for street parking, so this made it even more convenient for me. There were a number of open spaces when I dropped off and picked up my items. I took in a shirt that needed a button sewn on, a pair of pants that needed a hem sewn back up, and two patches that needed to be sewn on my son's Boy Scout sash. Being a true Yelper, I searched alterations for my mother of the groom long dress to alter the length. Of course, I procrastinated for weeks....but finally the weekend before I leave for the mainland, I popped out of bed early and headed over to 5-star Sook Hi's. Got there a little before 8am (she opens at 7am on Saturdays). She asked if I had an appointment, which I didn't but she said no problem and that today she has many appointments. So I recommend calling ahead of time to make an appointment out of courtesy. I put on my dress/sandals and she began to pin up the length. As she was doing that, she mentioned to me that she would alter the front length just a little shorter so I won't trip and the back a little long to flow nicely. Wow! I really like that idea. Once she had it all pinned up, she wrote up an invoice then asked for name and cell number so she can text me when it's ready. I like that!! I asked when would it be ready and she replied on Wednesday. Great! That's days before I leave so I was very pleased. I went about my day, did some small errands then went home. Just when I got home about an hour after I left her shop.....I got a text! You're alterations is ready!! WHAT??!!! I had to read the text a couple of times to make sure. LOL! So immediately went back to my car and headed to her shop. When I got there.... I said, that was incredibly fast! She's so sweet. Reminder....cash payments please. I tipped her for her excellent service, she hugged me and said God Bless You! I replied...God bless YOU for being so efficient! If you ever need alterations, go here. This is my go-to place when I need alterations or hemming. Suki is very nice, professional, and VERY prompt with her services. She has actually finished all my items earlier than expected (sometimes even the same day!). I took my wedding dress in for alterations (pre pandemic) during prom season. She seemed a bit busy, but still was able to turn things around in a very reasonable amount of time. Wow. Now I understand why Sook Hi's alteration is 5 stars... Suki is detailed, responsive and I got my evening gown I bought from Bloomingdales altered in less than 2 hours... who does that? Especially on this island?! I was going to use the tailor at Bloomingdales but they never picked up their phone or replied to my email... so I scoured online and found this place and gave it a shot. I parked at WalMart because I got lost. Turns out I didn't need to do that-- there's parking in front of the building. Anyway, big 5/5 experience. Impressed. I took in two skirts to be fixed on Monday morning. One hour later Sooki texted me to let me know the items were finished. Unfortunately I did not have any cash ( I never have cash) so I told her I would pick the items up the next day. I am so relieved to have found her in town. Efficient, good work and not unreasonably priced. She takes credit cards for jobs over $100. But....have mercy. I hear that people think she doesn't sleep. Last minute true emergencies aside, if you have a wedding at 11 o'clock in the morning to attend, you can't expect her to do your alterations if you bring it in that morning. Please be considerate! Suki from Sook Hi is comfortingly casual but very professional with her work. She runs a small place on Sheridan on the second floor of the structure behind 808 Center, diagonal from Walmart. I brought in three items, each needing different alteration: a romper that needed a hem in the pant legs, a skirt with a hole in the side seam, and a tank dress that I had her convert into just a skirt. I paid $40 for all of them. She was quick and finished the work within a week, and she texts to let you know when your items are ready for pick up. Each item came back looking like I bought the pieces that way! She matched thread accordingly and her line and length in the hem was perfect. Coming here from now on for all my alteration needs. I don't usually get my clothes altered but my boyfriend bought me a pair of Patagonia tulip pants and suggested we get it shortened. I would have done it myself but they are Patagonia tulip pants! I can't chance messing them up! So I checked out Yelp and found Sook Hi. She was very friendly and reasonably priced. She said she would text me when she was finished. Unfortunately, I never received a text so I walked in 2 weeks later and see what was up and they were ready to go. She thought she texted me which was fine. The directions on Yelp (via maps) is a tad inaccurate but if you drive around the block, you'll find her :) Its above Camelot, right next to Walmart. Anyway, great experience! I went in on a Monday with 3 pairs of pants that I needed hemmed and tapered. The owner (I assume), Suki, asked how quickly I needed them back and I told her "Well, I'm off Tuesday and wednesday" and her response "no problem. I'll have them ready." WHHHUUUUT?!?! She clearly already had a ton to do. Her shop (on the second floor) was filled with finished products and bags of items that needed to be worked on. Everything ranging from shorts to wedding gowns. Shes obviously a busy woman. And based on other Yelp reviews, I can see why. Anyway, I dropped the pants off around 3pm, Monday and they were ready, as she said, on Wednesday morning. Giving me plenty of time to get them home, washed, etc. The fit is great. I have recently lost about 50 pounds so while I can fake the waist (with a belt)...I definitely cant fake the amounts of extra fabric around the legs. Suki did an outstanding job fitting, hemming and tapering all 3 pairs. She did a great job on the pants and even gave me a discount because of the department I work for. This review is a little late (a year to be exact lol), but I cannot say enough how amazing SookHi is. My dress was originally supposed to be created custom to me, however there was an error on the tailor's side and they messed up the length of the straps and made them too short (they confused it with another customer). I did not receive or find this out until just before my wedding. While I did get compensated from that tailor/dress company, I was left to scramble and panic before my wedding due to having a dress that cut into my shoulders and sat wrong. I found SookHi on Yelp and explained what happened. She totally saved the day and extended the straps so that my wedding dress looked beautiful and I was comfortable on my wedding. The dress showed no signs of the seams being opened...it was perfect. In the picture you can see it is sitting lower, exactly where I wanted it to begin with. When I brought it to her the straps were like 4-5 inches shorter, and there were these huge awkward gaps on the side. I cannot thank her enough! :) read more

Best tailor on the island for sure!! As we all know, fit is the most important part of looking polished and being a short girl, I always need items altered to fit properly. After trying a couple different tailors on the island, I'm SO happy I found Sook Hi!! She seriously works magic. I found her on Yelp and went into get a bridesmaid's dress altered. I was a little worried as the material was a mix of very delicate crinkle chiffon and polyester lining and I had a tight deadline for the wedding. Sook Hi finished everything even earlier than I asked and the dress fits perfectly!! She expertly hemmed the dress and then took the extra material to make the top bodice a little larger so that my cleavage situation is more modest and can be zipped up properly. It looked like the dress was made that way, not altered. She also took up a skirt for me and let down a different skirt that I felt was too short. 3 pieces total and amazing work every piece - she's a true expert craftswoman.
