Hidden gem near Dundas Square! Came with a group of 10 - I think we surprised our waitor with our large group but we were quickly seated. We didn't have to wait long for our food either. I ordered the chicken khao soi and it was delicious. I just found that their prices have gone up since my first year of university... it's not as cheap. I wouldn't know about the food because I never received it. I ordered delivery to the hotel next door and then tracked the delivery. After the app indicated that the meal had been delivered, I called the restaurant, told them that I hadn't received anything and was told by the owner that delivery indication on the app just means that the meal was picked up and that it was on the way. That seemed like BS but I gave him him the benefit of the doubt. The next day I went the talk to the owner f2f and after a long and unpleasant conversation with the owner that now claimed to not even be capable of e-commerce, I left. This place advertises itself as Thai food by Thai chefs, and the food is legit. You even get the spice tray (fish sauce, sugar, chili flakes, chili sauce etc) so you can season your food to taste. The fish cakes were decent - bouncy enough and tasty. Thai boat noodles (pork) were great. The soup was rich with a subtle herbal note. It's a hidden gem in Toronto, and we come here often for a tasty Thai treat. My favourites are their street style pad thai, massaman curry, red curry, fresh rolls, and chicken skewers. Their curries especially have such beautiful flavours and vibrant colours. The chicken skewers come with a peanut dip and a side of cut veggies in a sweet sauce, which adds a lovely touch. Rather than going to salad king, I decided to come here. You know, try something different. The restaurant is on the second floor, but it has visible signage and decor so you shouldn't miss it. My first impression when I stepped in was a large near-empty restaurant with outdated furniture and decor, and worst of all, no AC. It was really humid in here, and I was not being subtle about it. There was even a fruit fly buzzing around when I sat down. Shortly, however, I felt some AC coming our way, so the people managing the place must have heard my verbal complaints and did something about it I guess. Washrooms are also just as humid, and you can see a handful of fruit flies all over the place. It is quite disgusting for the most part, but I suppose if you were to take this as an authentic thai experience where you're dining in a restaurant in the middle of a humid tropical environment, then the flies might be normal? Try to be optimistic about it. There are only two people working outside of the kitchen. They might be the owners, but there's definitely not a lot of staff. We placed our orders, and then waited for 20-25 minutes before the food finally arrived. Another table that was there before us also waited awhile before they received their items. We had the Golden Chicken Curry along with Street Pad Thai. You can customize how spicy you want it, from 1-chili to 6-chilis. You could probably have more, but I didn't try. It was a long wait, so automatically I'm expecting the food to be that much better since they're taking that much more time to prepare it. And it was quite tasty. The size of the pad thai is not bad, and came with both shrimp and chicken. The curry also had a lot of flavour, and the texture was not too watery. Service here is generally very slow. They only have one lady taking orders, serving food, and taking the bill. You'd be better off just walking up to the front where the bar is because the guy is just standing around not doing much when no one's at the bar. I would recommend just calling in and ordering your food to go, and picking it up half an hour later. read more

You get to pick your seat when you come in and they do offer a lunch special that comes with soup and a spring roll. This place is located around 10 min walking distance from the Eaton Centre. The restaurant is actually quite hidden with a small doorway leading up a flight of stairs. There is spacious seating with wooden tables and panels. However, the food itself did not taste particularly good. We ordered the khao soi, beef noodles, and golden chicken curry with rice. The khao soi was a little too thick and did not have much flavour. The golden curry also did not taste fresh or aromatic. The chicken was cut into really thick pieces and the dish itself tasted quite bland. Service was friendly, but wish they could check up on us more to refill water. For starters, TY is located near RU which is super convenient for students. I also really like the dark interior and the ambience in there is really.. calming? I feel like there's a wind blowing through which makes the ceiling decor jingle or move - but don't worry, it's not cold! It is also nice that the servers (mostly) leave you alone when you eat - which is a plus for me! Anyways, I got the lunch special today (which was ~$15 with tip) and it was super delicious! Just one slight downer is that when compared to other thai places, their (normal, non-lunch special) dishes are quite small for the price. However, no biggie as it is still fulfilling. I'm in a generous mood right now & I haven't had any "problems" with this place yet, so for now - the rating is a 5/5. And lastly, I'm just super happy this place cooks their chicken throughly. Thai On Yonge is an excellent restaurant for someone who wants down to earth Thai food, without the drawn out hype (it never got crowded when I was here). The costs are also substantially lower, and personally I feel the place is better quality than Salad King next door. The seating arrangement is a little awkward (lots of weirdly designed booths), but I wasn't bothered too much. You seat yourself, although informing an employee of your arrival would help in getting better service. I ordered the chicken padthai lunch special, which came with one spring roll and a soup of the day, which turned out to be hot and sour soup. Both the soup and spring roll were quite good, definitely excellent quality for the price I paid ($9 including taxes with the pad thai). The pad thai came after; this restaurant separates the bean sprouts and peanuts, so if you don't like either addition, well, they did the job for you! Again, for $9 including tax, this is probably one of the best pad thais you can get in the city for under $10. The sauce was done right, the noodles were chewy but not undercooked, and the presentation was nicely done as well. The food came quick enough that I was in and out in about 40 minutes; not bad at all! Service was excellent once you're seated. The employees are legit Thai people, so you know you're getting the authenticity of Thai food here without breaking your bank. Definitely will return! read more

Delicious, authentic, and affordable Thai food with friendly service and peaceful ambiance. Thai on Yonge is my go-to Thai restaurant when I'm around the downtown core. It's low-key, clean, and makes me feel nostalgic about Thailand. As of this review, I've had their green curry chicken as well as the chicken pad thai. The curry was aromatic and soupy-like, and thankfully not oily or spicy. Meanwhile the pad thai was well balanced and very filling. Additionally, I had their Thai iced tea and was extremely satisfied. It's milky sweetness flavor was perfect and left me craving for more. I'd highly recommend ordering this especially on a hot summer day. Overall, Thai on Yonge is an amazing hidden gem that's worth checking out. They also have a great lunch options, with wonderfully quick service. Things to remember: - You're not headed into a fine dinning establishment. You're headed into a well signed location, that is located upstairs - off of Yonge and south of Gerrard. - I'm many ways, this is a college/university area. We live nearby and I've had take out from here once but we recently decided to really sit down and try Thai On Yonge. The decor of his restaurant isn't very fancy and you'll need to go up some stairs but it feels a lot like Thailand which makes it nice. We ordered the mango salad, lemon grass soup, tamarind beef, and pad kee mao. Woah! Everything was extremely flavourful! The lemon grass soup, salad, and beef definitely packed a punch. Sometimes it was overwhelming but everything was really good. The ingredients were fresh and well balanced in all of them. You can see how colourful everything is in the picture. The mango was ripe and the beef was crispy. The noodles were tasty too- a little oily. The food was very authentically Thai (coming from someone part Thai) and the people working there are Thai. If you go here then I'd recommend trying things on their menu other than pad Thai!
