The pulled pork did not pull off as easily as the beef brisket and was not as flavor full as the beef brisket. The tres leche cake, is fire too. This is a nice clean Sophie's. Only came here twice in my life and thankfully they opened a location on Broadway so I don't need to go far down from my job to the one around South Street Seaport. This location is definitely a lot closer to my job! Too bad this one does not have seating at all. There is also no bathroom. Ordering was pretty easy. Staff assisting me was fast and I got my order in no time. I got the Monday special, which was black beans and white or yellow rice with a Cuban sandwich. I got white rice to pair with the black beans. The sandwich was pressed really flat! Kind of oily but it was very good with the green sauce! Green sauce is so damn good but wish it was much more spicier. Cannot really taste the spice at all but the consistency is pretty thick that I cleaned the green sauce with my tongue! I licked every drop I can get! They give you a nice platter full of rice and beans so I was so damn full after the meal! I also got a chicken and beef empanadas. The chicken won my heart and the beef was just chunks of grounded beef, which was kind of high in sodium in my option. It tasted like a Jamaican beef patty so I did not really like it that much. One of my favorite places to grab some inexpensive, filling food in the neighborhood. Sophie's Cuban has good empanadas with a range of fillings to choose from. I'm a big fan of the green sauce that comes on the side, and I put it on pretty much every bite. They have a sizable menu I've yet to venture into, because every time I come by, I have a specific craving for the empanadas, but I've seen people ordering large plates here often, so I feel like that's an indicator their offerings are solid. I've gotten the beef, chicken, and spinach and cheese filled empanadas so far. They've all tasted good to me, and the service was friendly and fast, even when I've placed my order through a tablet in the restaurant as opposed to through a live cashier. This isn't really a dine-in spot unless you're by yourself and it's not too busy, because I think they only have about 3 or 4 stools and bar-style seating in one window. read more

The Cuban sandwich was extremely underwhelming. It was probably the smallest Cuban sandwich I've ever had from a restaurant; at over $13, it was overpriced for the quantity and quality. The bread was not particularly good. The requisite ingredients checked the box for merely being present, but did not stand out as a whole. Had I gotten the sandwich as part of their weekly special, perhaps I wouldn't have been as disappointed. I came by Sophie's for a quick lunch. It was pretty packed at 1 pm, which gave me good feelings about the food. It was relatively small, with the only seating along the side. I ordered the slow-roasted mojo pork, mora rice and beans, steamed vegetables, and tostones. I was pleased with the amount of food you get for a large, and the prices are very reasonable. One thing is certain, their food is consistently delicious.; When I'm in a cheating mood their Cuban sandwich( pork, Swiss, pickles on toasted bread, you got it!) is absolutely delicious and their green sauce gives their sandwich, salads and rice dishes a zesty flavor. Their pastelitos are really good. I love the crust. It is always flaky and the cheese is particularly my favorite. I do like the beef but sometimes is a hit or miss, and the chicken is just too dry for me but if I need protein, I'll eat it. i've only gotten a meal from there once, but the time that I did get it, the rice was great, the sweet plantain was great, but once again the chicken was kind of dry. Since I understand the area that it is located in, I know that it won't be as seasoned as normal, but I'll always return for a pastelitos. The service is pretty fast and you're usually in and out under five minutes in the afternoon. However, at lunchtime, there is a line which does reflect how good the food is. My coworkers and I have been running out of lunch options in the area so we were excited to try Sophie's! I got their spicy chicken sandwich and it was delicious. The chicken itself looked a bit burnt so I was nervous that it was going to be dry, but it was moist and juicy. The pickles also added a nice touch. While I don't expect prices to remain stagnant (not how capitalism works), I simply think they are out of control at Sophie's. Great selection of dishes to choose from. The food is really good and fills you up with a nice hearty homestyle meal. We ordered the baked chicken with rice and plantains and also the pulled pork with rice and veggies. The small and large sizes don't look like much of a difference but the sizing is actually pretty decent. The service is fast during the lunch hours and most people take the food to go. They have a few stools for people to sit inside but otherwise it's a takeout spot. They have multiple locations throughout the city so I'm glad there's one closer to the office now. read more

When I got my order I was extremely disappointed. The beef empanada was the size of my palm! And it wasn't very flavorful. The Cuban sandwich barely had anything in it! As others have said the sandwiches lacked meat for the amount of money they want for them. The pork in the Cuban was dry while the mojo pork was greasy as heck, no real flavor either. I used to go to Sophies before the pandemic. Recent I found out they opened one in downtown Broadway. I had the moros (rice with black beans) with pernil (pork) and sweet plantains and the food was really good and portion was good (ordered the large size) Today, my 2nd time at Sophie's after the pandemic, I ordered Cuban sandwich.m. The taste was really good but the sandwich had a normal/regular slice of ham and the pork (pernil) was a slice a little bit thicker than the ham slice. Price was ok ($12) for a Cuban sandwich but expensive for the actual meat in my sandwich. The sandwich was significantly lacking on the ham/pernil portion. As you can see on the photo, a sharpie was as thick as the sandwich, NOT good. Charge more if needed, but this sandwich was really lacking some ham and pernil. I would never recommend the sandwich to anybody. I do recommend the place for their entrees. read more

Disappointing Cuban sandwiches, which had very little meat or cheese, no mojo sauce inside and the meat was bland and flavorless. Charging $11.99 for such a paltry sandwich is disgraceful. Make it at home yourself. Also, the tostones were made well, but were placed in a waxed paper bag, making them soggy. The dipping sauce had a strange acidic taste that did not complement the tostones at all. Get your act together, Sophie's and live up to the flavorful standards of Cuban cuisine! Stat! read more
