We hired Chef Sophie to cater our daughter's 1st birthday, and we're so glad we did! Not only did the food taste great, but the presentation perfectly complemented the garden-themed party. Sophie is easy to work with and made requested items not on her regular menu. She even volunteered to make a trip to the grocery store when I realized last minute that I had forgotten to buy ice cream for the occasion. Sophie is THE BEST!!! I just had a week-long film shoot in 29 Palms, and we hired Sophie to cater lunch for the cast and crew every day. She did NOT disappoint! There was such a wide variety of meals that we had: taco bar, chicken, rice, veggies, baked potato bar, chicken salad sandwiches, chili bar. There wasn't a weak meal in the bunch! Everything was delicious, and she was truly a DELIGHT (see what I did there?) to work with. If/when I have another shoot in the desert area, Sophie will be the first person that I call for meals for the cast and crew! Feeding a group of 15-20 actors/crew members could prove to be a difficult task, but Sophie was accommodating for everyone's dietary needs, and truly a pleasure to work with. We were let down by Sophie during the entire planning process for a 140 person wedding. It was like pulling teeth to get her to respond to our phone calls and emails. She always had an excuse and we were very tired of her excuses at the end of our wedding. On the day of the event she was 20 minutes late with only one staff member to help me set the dinner tables when she promised three servers to help. Sophie showed up unprepared and flustered. Our ceremony started late which gave her an extra 30 minutes to set up and she still wasn't ready. And the REAL KICKER was when I continuously asked for the second hors d'oeuvres to be brought out and Sophie continued to promise it was coming. Again and again she said it was coming out, but there was never a second appetiser So at the end of the evening, as we met to 'recap' I waited for her to bring it up, but she never did! As if to get away with us paying for an hors d'oeuvres she never put out! It was a bit shameful if you ask me. She had another excuse for the missing appetiser, but at least deducted it off the bill. I'm sorry Yelper's if you have an important event that you don't want to have to babysit the caterer, then don't go with Sophie. I think she is a nice person with too much on her plate and should work on being honest with her clients. read more

Sophie is a true chef! She catered our wedding reception with over 100 guests and everything was perfect. She brought to the table ribs, bacon wrapped salmon, jambalaya, collard greens, and mac and cheese. Everything she cooked wasn't just good, it was fantastic! My friends and I recently hired Chef Sophie as our private chef for a 4 day getaway in Big Bear, and we have nothing but great things to say about her. First of all, she was the only chef (of about 7) I called who picked up the phone right away - a huge plus in my book. Not only is Sophie a professional and genuinely lovely person, everything she cooked was absolutely delicious (and she cooked a lot!). Most of us had special dietary requirements, to which Sophie catered without a problem. We also like things in abundance, and she happily accommodated all requests (even if it meant preparing a different dish for every person). A special mention goes to Sophie's chocolate on chocolate on chocolate cake, which was the best any of us have ever tasted. I really recommend Chef Sophie for any event, and will definitely be hiring her again in the future. read more

I hired Sophie's for my husband's 50th birthday party hoping for something extra special for his big day. We paid in full in advance for a 6 pm dinner service. I started getting nervous around 5:45 pm when no one showed. I called the contact number several times with no answer. With 45 hungry guests and no food, I frantically whipped up a pasta dinner to serve my guests. At 6:30 pm I received my first call from Sophie's Delights, informing me that the scheduled chef had a medical emergency and that the substitute chef, Toni, was on her way. A simple phone call to me prior to 6 pm would have sufficed, so that I could inform my guests of the delay and avoid the terror I experienced trying to prepare a large meal at the very last minute. The food finally arrived after 7 pm. Think of this as decent home cooking--not gourmet. But for $20 pp I expected something better than bottled salad dressing, and at least a chance to host a party without having to cook and clean myself. My last comment--they took all the extra food with them when they left---when all previous caterers I have used typically package up the leftovers for the client who paid for the food. Toni was cordial and apologetic and I hope that the original chef is healing well, but the bottom line is that the service was unprofessional and the food was not worth the price. read more
