Eggplant! Not a real Japanese taste but delicious there's a little twist that gives it a different kind of deliciousness.

It was very tasty . I really enjoyed every bite. Yes I love all I ordered , but one thing disappointed was portion... very small. But ok.. I will be back ... I will try another food ... can't wait..

Thoroughly loved their noodle dishes! Got the veggie in both Mee Kon Tang (Stir Fried Chow Ho Fun) and Mee Chha (Shir Fried Egg Noodle). We were seated quickly and food came out quickly too! Would love to frequent more and glad I gave them another chance.

Came here for lunch. Been wanting to try this for a while. Small space with 2 floors, next to very busy parking area. Didn't know where to choose in menu but tried beef flat wide noodles, beef skewer, lemongrass chicken soup and some squash dish. Everything was tasty and original to me. I particularly enjoyed the beef skewer and noodle dish. Definitely would come back again. Food was 5/5, point off since service was so slow that day.

It's hard to find Cambodian restaurants so we were very pleasantly surprised when we found this place! We came a bit earlier than typical dinner hours so we were seated and served quickly. I could see how this place could get really busy during popular dining times as it started picking up when we finished our meal. They offer a variety of food items on their menu. I don't think you could go wrong with anything! We'd recommend trying the curries or pin noodles, those were definitely our favorite. Everything was super flavorful and portions were very generous. I'd recommend giving this place a try! Staff were friendly and efficient. We will have to return when we're back in the area!

I mean...this place is the best. I cannot believe I've never been to this corner of Washington to enjoy the tastes and smells of Sophie's Kitchen. I will be back all the time for takeout, but for this first visit I was lucky to dine in. I got to try the frog legs, beef skewers, papaya salad, and chicken curry. Every single item was great but the beef skewers were my favorite bite of the night. Super umami flavor and tender beef. The curry is served with a fluffy rice and portions are all super reasonable to match the reasonable prices. This spot is a BYO and all of the servers we chatted with were incredibly kind and fun. I'll be back for the fried wings, noodle dishes, and soups in the winter months. Thank you to this Philly staple for existing!

Ordered carry out but the dining area seemed quite peaceful and had relaxing decor so want to try dining in next time. Need to try a few other dishes on the menu. Tried the chicken skewers and the curry chicken. Chicken skewers were 3 for an order and quite tasty, a good glaze on them and grilled nicely. Curry chicken came with rice and was a nice hearty portion. Lots of veggies and big pieces of sautéed chicken. The curry sauce itself was sweet but didn't have much of a spicy kick. Good size for the price. Thanks

Chicken skewer is delicious, but the more you eat, you may feel like it is a tiny bit too salty. Mee kon tang is normal: texture of noodle is good but beef is a little too chewy. My favorite is the sauteed pumpkin with chicken; the seasoning is good, but the rice is too dry. The soup is sour and quite spicy even when I asked for mild. The waitress later asked the kitchen to lower the spicy level even more and it tastes a lot better for me. It has a strong lemongrass taste. The pork rib is still pretty tough for me since I prefer fall of the bone. I think good food overall and price is affordable.

This cambodian restaurant is a great hidden spot in south philly! It's super popular so be prepared for a wait if you're going during peak dinner hours. I went with a friend on a friday evening and we got a table after 45 minutes and it was another at least half hour before our food came out, because there was only one staff manning both the first and second floor. She was our waitress and the sweetest! Food wise, their appetizer deep fried chicken wings are a banger. It's perfectly fried with a crunchy bite, and sweet and savory, in a lemongrass and tamarind sauce. We were recommended their stir fried pin noodles, which was decent. You can choose your own protein, and I did like the texture of the noodles - it's rice based and similar to udon, but chewier - but I did think the noodles were a bit greasy. The curry had a nice kick to it and was okay - paired well with rice. Next time, I am curious to try their frog legs. The prices here are super reasonable, and the inside of the restaurant is cozy. This restaurant is on Washington ave so parking might be a bit difficult, but the staff here are welcoming.

Sophie's Kitchen is a delightful family-run establishment with authentic, family-style Cambodian food, awesome service, and very reasonable prices! Our server Tony was so kind and hospitable, and was very happy to share the stories behind his family's restaurant (Sophie is his mom!) and some of the traditional dishes on the menu. We ordered the tossed papaya salad, sautéed chicken curry, and Spices & Sour Lemongrass soup (Somlawe Majou Kroeung). The soup was definitely our favorite and was so comforting on a cold snowy day! Tony explained to us that the soup is a staple in Cambodian homes and gave helpful tips on how to best enjoy it with rice, of which we were given generous free refills! My only regret is not getting more of the soup to take home because it supposedly tastes even better the next day (especially if you get it with pork ribs)!

This Cambodian place has a noodle dish I would describe as if Korean Toppoki and Taiwanese beef noodle soup had a love child in Cambodia - it would be this dish Lort Chha! Not as soupy, but with all the flavor reduced to into the noodles and beef. Beef skewers are also very tasty to start with. Kinda like gyukaku tendered and charred slices on a stick with a Cambodian sweet glaze. Again another must try in Philly. Service was super friendly and reservations preferred. John Legend and Chrissy Teigen approves. Place is kinda small and clean but parking is hard. So plan ahead.

Wish the seating area was a little bit bigger. Service was decent, food was pretty flavorful and tasty. Don't expect much from the ambiance here.

Fried Frog Legs

It's been awhile since I had added Sophie's kitchen on my list and finally got to try it. This place is a hidden gem on Washington Ave. We ordered the frog legs to share. The batter was super crispy and light and for a dish this simple it was delicious and had such a nice flavor. The texture of the meat is similar to chicken drumsticks but lighter. I would highly recommend this dish. For our main, I got sautéed chicken with house curry (red) and my SO got sautéed seafood with green curry. They both had incredible flavor. I also loved that the portions were healthy. Staff were very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back to Sophie's Kitchen.

Sophie's Kitchen is absolutely our favorite spot in South Philly! All the food we've tried is all so delicious and freshly made. I'm in love with their chicken wings, they are juicy and tender inside and still have that crunchiness outside. You can choose Tamarind, Sweet Chili, Lemon Pepper, or Lemongrasses for your seasoning to go with the wings, but my favorite is the Sweet Chili. So spicy, so good! The beef stick is also decent! So well seasoned and so juicy. If you love mussels and curry, please order that, that dish also comes with a bowl of rice for you. The chicken sour soup also hits the spot in such a cold weather day. Friendly staff, reasonable prices. We usually come right when they're open so no wait time but I think they could get busy on the weekend. Hard to find parking because you know, it's Philly. I will definitely come back here!

From the food to the service, every part of the experience felt thoughtful, intentional, and genuinely memorable. It's the kind of restaurant that reminds you why dining out can be so special. The space itself is cozy, intimate, and full of character. The unique design creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to settle in and enjoy every course rather than rush through the meal. The service deserves every bit of a 10/10. All of the servers were incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about the menu. Since several dishes and ingredients were unfamiliar to us, they took the time to explain each one, answer our questions, and offer recommendations without making us feel rushed. That guidance gave us the confidence to step outside of our comfort zone, and every recommendation paid off. We ordered the Mawn Noodle Soup, Grilled Saht Koh, Mahope Samut, Steak and Prohok, Thai Crab Fried Rice, and ended the evening with the Funnel Cake. Every dish was beautifully plated and packed with bold, balanced flavors. The Steak and Prohok was refreshing and full of flavor in every bite. The Grilled Saht Koh had a perfect char and was cooked beautifully. The Mahope Samut was exceptional, with tender, perfectly seared scallops. Both this and the Saht Koh were perfect starters. The Mawn Noodle Soup was incredibly comforting with layers of flavor and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The Thai Crab Fried Rice was another standout--light, fragrant, and loaded with fresh crab, making it much more than just a side dish. And somehow, after such an incredible meal, the Funnel Cake still managed to steal the show. It was the perfect ending: crisp, indulgent, and not overly sweet. It's easy to see why MAWN has earned such a loyal following. Exceptional hospitality, creative dishes that are executed with precision, and an atmosphere that feels both relaxed and special make this one of the best dining experiences I've had in Philadelphia. We'll absolutely be back, and next time, I'll be ordering the dishes we loved while making room to explore even more of the menu!

Walking in around 5:45pm on a Friday evening in June without a reservation, I was able to get a table for 45 minutes within five minutes. Here's my experience. 1) Food: Wow- just wow. Everything is excellent. To feed a hungry stomach, I ordered the Garlicky Cabbage, Yellow Curry Noodle Soup with Chicken, and my server gifted me with the Grilled Saht Koh as a surprise. Everything had textured flavors that are well balanced. The winner for me was the Garlicky Cabbage. Having grown up in a country where cabbage is the staple, these are among the best I've ever had. I'll note that I was warned that the Yellow Curry Noodle Soup was spicy. I love spice but can't handle it. I was unaffected by the soup's spice level. 2) Drinks: The Thai green iced tea was unique, refreshing, and delicious! I almost ordered a second. Like many places in Philly, it's BYOB so there isn't a cocktail, beer, wine menu. 3) Service: It was excellent. Taylor, my server, was passionate about the menu, personable, and interesting to talk to. She's awesome! 4) Location: In South Philly, there's a lot to experience nearby from top-rated restaurants, parks, and public art.

Since the famous Mawn restaurant was unavailable, we tried a more affordable, local option. The seasoning was light yet umami, with a bright and non-greasy aroma of deep-fried garlic and garlic oil - a highlight. The rice noodles were round and boiled a bit softer than Vietnamese pho. I found it similar to Fuzhou-style Laohua撈化 (rice vermicelli soup), but with more flavor; my friend described it as a "thinner version of Chaoshan-style kueh teow粿條 soup," which is quite apt. There might be a slight difference between stands, but since it's so common, you can't really go wrong with anyone who sells. - Stir Fry Noodle Lady! The groceries in this area are cheaper than any place on Washington avenue and just as varied (if not moreso). The real reason to come down here is the street food. Anywhere in this area, but particularly along 7th between Ritner and Snyder, you'll be able to find street hawkers selling freshly open-air grilled beef and chicken at a single dollar per serving (two servings and some sticky rice for $2 for a total of $4 is enough for a meal). The best thing to try to get in this area if you're adventurous is the papaya salad from any of the hawkers (I prefer the fat lady at 7th just south of Winton, around 2130, I guess). In Thai, it's called somtam, but it is of Cambodian origin and called bok l'hong. Its hot, garlicy, salty goodness is fantastic at $5 no matter which hawker makes it for you (and it's prepared fresh to order by all of them, too). It's an enormous amount and really, it's enough for six people as an appetizer salad. Goes great with sticky rice. There're also hawkers along Moyamensing between 8th and 4th and around Mifflin Square at 6th and Ritner (NOT Mifflin, oddly enough) and they all carry the same sort of stuff. If you're worried about the area, there's a hawker on the south side of Jackson St near Mildred between 9th and 8th and that area's a tad less rough. I'd give five stars, but sometimes you'll venture here and find no hawkers. Their availability changes with the weather and on colder or rainy days, you'll find no one.
