Great spot, extra large portions dining in. Had the curry puffs, crazy noodle (pad kee mao), and pad thai. Pad thai is authentic, flavorful and my favorite (even having gone to Thailand, this is a banging pad thai). Crazy noodle on the sweeter side, which I'm not a big fan of, but was tasty and they can make it thai hot, extra spicy if you ask, which is awesome. My friend and I ordered takeout from AmeriThai, and it was solid! It was estimated to take 25-30 minutes but only ended up taking about 15. We split the veggie spring rolls which were super crispy, but could have used a little more flavor. For my main dish, I got Tofu Red Curry which was packed full of vegetables and flavor. The portion size was good, so I ended up with leftovers for lunch the next day. What I can best describe this place is inconsistent. The first time I ordered from this place was for a to-go order years ago, a month after the opened which I believe was back in 2014 -- I never went back until December of 2019. Back in 2014 the food tasted so bad I refused to go back. I ordered pad thai, papaya salad and tom yum soup. I remember throwing out 80% of the papaya salad and did finish most the food. I ended up retrying the place back in December 2019 with a group of friend for dine in and it was the foods were actually good. This time we ordered pad thai, basil fried rice, masam curry and a vegetarian dish. Then, I again ordered for take out recently and again the food was not that great. Pad thai noodle were dry and basil fried rice -- the rice was a bit hard. The best dish was the green curry. All the dishes I ordered had a sweeter taste more than savory. The inconsistency due to dine in and take out. I'm not 100% sure, I would have to try dine in one more time to be sure but as of right now, I'd suggest dinning in (once option is available) instead of take out. read more

I've tried multiple thai restaurants around philly but none of them compare to Amerithai. You can tell they make authentic Thai cuisine and you actually taste the spices unlike most places. i've never talked to a thai food place so clueless about whether or not their food is gluten free. pad thai is almost always gluten free because it has rice noodles and no soy sauce. but they couldn't figure it out and in 8 years, i've never had this problem with a restaurant. if you have allergies and need people to be reliable with them, find another place. read more

Man, this place is so underrated! My boyfriend and I walked in on a weekday night for a dine-in dinner to see it completely empty, though the phones kept ringing and throughout our meal there were people coming in and out for takeout orders. It's pretty gaudy decoration-wise, but it's nothing I wouldn't already expect from a Thai place in the heart of South Philly. The waitress/host was very nice, keeping our water filled most of the time. We ordered the Thai Treasure, which mostly had fried stuff but did give us a good idea on what to get if we ever came back. We shared the Evil Jungle Princess, a fresh dish with chicken, shrimp, and veggies that thankfully offset the heaviness of the apps, also coming with rice. We polished everything off with the Fried Bananas, which were stuffed inside spring roll wrappers. Not too sweet, but definitely made for a sweet tooth. Great service during Covid. We recently discovered Tamarind chicken, which is thin and dry pieces of chicken in sauce with onions and pineapple - we love it and it's a nice addition to our usual entree orders (we always get multiple to share because with Thai food being so yummy how can you be happy with just one?!). The red curry had a nice kick and I liked it a little more than the green. Massaman was a nice change of flavor - more sweet and no kick, and good potatoes. Pad Thai is always a winner. I could use lots of superlatives to describe the range of flavors that were presented but the bottom line is: excellent food at reasonable prices with quick service and fun staff -including a good sense of humor. I get the sense this is a family operation but I will tell you there is nothing amateur about what they deliver. This is my new go to Asian food stop in South Philly. Very tasty curries and soups! We ordered a variety through Grubhub and everyone was happy with their choices. The crab Rangoon appetizer was definitely not run of the mill. It wasn't super cheesy, but it had nicely spiced veggies inside. The wonton noodle soup with bok choy and bean sprouts was perfect on a chilly day. The wontons were thin skinned and the broth was great. All the curries were flavorful, but a spice level of 4 was barely spicy at all. So if you like heat I'd ask for Thai spicy or a 5 at least. Also the packaging was really leaky. All the curry platters were a mess by the time we got them. Otherwise, no complaints! read more

This is my go-to Thai restaurant for Pad Thai! But it could be a little inconsistent with the spiciness level. I always get 3 out of 5, sometimes it can be a little too spicy or not spicy at all. I guess that's the only downside because everything else is perfect! I also love their Thai curry puff! They're so good! I hope they can be more consistent with their spiciness. I drive past here a few times a week taking the kiddos to dance. Always kind of glanced in curiously while waiting for the light to change on Synder Ave. I was the mood for Thai, more specifically for some Tom Yom soup on a cool, September night. I had no desire to journey too far into center city and deal with traffic and parking, so we find ourselves here, in South Philly, where we surprisingly grab free unmetered parking right out front, right away! The place was empty at 7:30 pm on a Saturday. Was this a sign? Not at all! Nina, who we came to find out was the owner's daughter was our fantastic, attentive waitress. She was full of life, smiles, knowledge of the menu and suggestions. We ordered our items very specifically after she placed our wine glasses for us to fill with the bottle we brought along as it's BYO. She repeated our order back to us, and they were delivered exactly how we requested and made with care by Nina's mom who was cooking away in the kitchen back there... Tom Yom soup with veggies and tofu instead of shrimp- so packed with flavor and the perfect amount of punch! Veggie filled. Mushrooms and fresh basil. Exactly what I was craving, but better! "Happy Traveler" with broccoli, fried tofu and sauce on the side so basically, a deconstructed version of the meal for the kiddos to split and top as they wish. Peanut sauce was to die for! Perfect tang. Tofu was perfection...crispy and light. Crab Rangoon- the crispiest I've ever seen. They even held their crisp the next day when he heated the leftovers! Rare! Sauce to accompany them was fantastic as well. Beef Pad Thai, nothing green- it now holds the medal for his second favorite in the entire city. Thai burrito- seitan, curry rice, sweet potatoes and mixed greens in a crispy exterior. I had no intention of ordering anything other than soup but this caught my eye and after tasting it, it caught my heart. Holy crap is this goooooood!!!! It's HUGE! (think double width of a normal Mexican burrito!) and just $7!! Vegans, it doesn't list the cheese as an ingredient, but it comes with it. They are happy to make it without, just ask! It was the last thing I should been eating, but I'm kinda glad I did! It was unreal! It made 2 1/2 meals!! Definitely able to share this one! The shell remained crisp even after I reheated it the following days! We loved our meals. We loved the price. We loved Nina and our chats about Thailand. We loved having the place to ourselves. On the corner of 13th & Snyder in South Philly, AmeriThai was a pleasant respite on a steamy late June afternoon. Although as colorful as a Thai temple with rusty orange hues and elephants abounding, sitting in a quiet corner with the air cooling only ourselves, it felt a chill oasis. The menu offered plenty of choices from soup to noodles, curry to bigger game like chicken, pork, beef and duck. We order Chu Chee Duck and Crazy Noodles, with appetizer of Curry Puffs. In reverse order; the Curry Puffs reminded of Indian Samosas - Sweet and White Mashed Potato, Onion, Peas, mixed in mild Curry powder, deep fried, with semi-sweet/spicy Chili Dipping Sauce in a small brass dish. Excellently golden. Crisp shell. Tasty innards. Tart sauce. Liked it a lot! The Crazy (Drunken) Noodles with tender Sliced Beef was a load and a half with big Fat Noodles, Veggies, and hot spicies. Plenty of dry Chili Pepper flakes in the mix. So glad we had Thai Iced Tea to tamp down the flames. Chu Chee Duck had wonderfully crisp skin, moist delicious meat and a pale orange cream curry sauce. This became slightly sloppy finger food, as every morsel was too good to miss and required close examination and tongue probing to suck it all off the bone. There are many very good Thai houses in and around Philly, and AmeriThai is certainly one. It is a little frayed around the edges, but it fits well with the neighborhood. When looking for some Thai delivery options, I came across AmeriThai and my boyfriend and I thought we'd give it a try. Our order consisted of Crab Rangoons, Massaman Curry, and Crazy Noodles. It was delivered in an appropriate amount of time, but sadly, the packaging was a disaster! The curry and noodles were both delivered in disposable aluminum foil containers with white paper lids and were literally DRENCHED in oil and curry. It was such a mess! I don't think curries should be stored and delivered in this kind of packaging. As far as the food goes, I would rank it as follows: #1 Crab Rangoons, #2 Crazy Noodles, and #3 Massaman Curry. In my opinion, you can never really go wrong with rangoons, but these were probably some of the best I've ever had. They were fried perfectly! I loved how crispy they were. The Crazy Noodles came with broccoli, carrots, cabbage, onions, and mushrooms in a hot chili oil. They were good, but as I said above, drenched in oil. Way too much. The Massaman Curry was just alright. The vegetables in it were all fresh, but the curry was pretty flavorless. I tasted more coconut milk in it than any of the spice/seasonings. I wish it had a bit of a kick to it. Our protein of choice was pork and I did like how tender it was. Unfortunately, this place didn't really do it for me. Maybe their food tastes better fresh out of the kitchen than through delivery, but either way, there's other Thai restaurants I'd much rather choose than this one. read more

Ok so I really wanted Thai and I've tried to be super careful due to the current pandemic. I decided to try Amerithai and I am not mad. Ok so if you didn't know I just moved back to the city from Atlanta and in reviewing a few menus I think southern Thai may be different than northern Thai? Or is it just different ppl make things differently? Idk. Whatever the case I found that some places (Thai) put peanuts in curry, some add cashews. I prefer cashews over peanuts but the fact that Amerithai uses peanuts over cashews isn't a deal breaker for me. I like that they ask what level of spice you want bc I've had Thai that was ok but could be amazing with just a kick ( think Emiril Lagosse). Anyway, I ordered the crazy noodles, Massaman curry crab ragoon and Thai tea. I usually flip between dumplings or some other app for my son this time I chose crab ragoon, excellent choose! They were so light and crispy and I could tell that the filling was not your average imitation crab if it was they did a great job of buzzing it up! Next the crazy noodles. My son said they were "crazy good" his words not mine, lol. He's 10 but he already knows good food‍. Then the curry, it was great. I could have gone with a 2 for spice but silly me, I'm a rebel- I chose a 3. Let's just say, I'm glad I had the Thai tea! It wasn't so hot that you couldn't enjoy the flavor of the meal but it was close, lol. Absolutely my fault but now I know. Oh my gosh, y'all! I am pretty Thai food picky and this place is a real gem!! I love love love all things spicy and this place did not disappoint. First of all, the Thai hot is a) actually hot and b) they don't try to discourage me from ordering it just because I look like some wimpy white bread. Always a win in my books!! Their portions are generous and the flavors of the two curried and pad Thai I have had were just heavenly. Excellent Thai food for Philadelphia. I lived in Thailand for over a year, and having lived in Philadelphia for a decade, I've noticed that the Thai places aren't that great. This one is very good for the city. The som tom salad had grilled shrimp in it. At other Thai places here, the shrimp is cold. The tom-yum noodle bowl had a very generous helping of seafood as well as bok choy. The frog legs were fried but not heavily breaded, which was a plus. Came here for lunch. The place is nice and clean. The hostess is very nice and attentive. They have a really good lunch special deal. $8 for miso soup or salad with an entree. My favorite thai dish is Drunken noodle. I was looking forward to ordering that dish. However, i couldn't find it on the menu. :( Saw another dish that i thought was similar to drunken noodle called CRAZY NOODLE (guess being drunken and crazy is similar right? People go crazy when they are drunk.) I order my dish with the miso soup. Thought it was kinda weird that they offer that soup instead of the Tom Yum. The Miso soup had a lot of tofu and seaweed, more so than any other miso soup that i've tried in the past. However, i feel like they didn't use enough soybean paste for the soup and it was a little salty. The crazy noodle dish was nowhere near the drunken noodle dish. It was too sweet for my liking. I also had a chance to try Pad thai. I thought the pad thai dish was sweet also. I think they over did it with the sauce. The noodle looks too wet. My favorite dish is their mango rice pudding. The rice has a nice coconut aroma. It was topped with a few slices of mango and finish it off with drizzle of condense milk. Will i come back to this place? We have had AmeriThai both delivered and in-person, and it was waaaaay better in person. Great staff, pretty good food. I'm from Seattle, where delicious Thai food abounds, and this is not that. But it's good for the area and we enjoy the food. We have had the Phad Thai, Drunken Noodles, a few of the curries, spring rolls, and fried rice, all vegan versions. They have a great selection for plant-powered eaters. Two recommendations for them: 1) Would recommend they fry their tofu (rather than serve soft) since it has absolutely no flavor and too soft a texture otherwise. Those who want it "healthy" can request it unfried rather than the other way around. 2) More veggies please! (This goes for most Thai places in the area.) Wow. Came for the lunch with a coworker, because of their close proximity to our location and their lunch specials. When you hear about an $8 lunch special, it's not an automatic assumption that you get the full portion--but that is the case here! In addition to a soup or salad, you also get a full entree for $8. Such a great deal! Especially when you consider the quality of what comes to your table. The only soup option for the lunch special is the Tom Yum soup--mushrooms, onions, basil in a lemongrass broth. It was sooooo good, flavorful and fresh, and a good size portion too. Next up came the entrées...I got Mango Chicken and my friend the "Crazy Noodles" which anywhere else would be Drunk Noodles. Huge portions, more than either of us could finish even if we hadn't just had soup. Plenty of meat and veggies in both--my mango chicken had stir-fried chicken, bok choy, carrots, broccoli, onions, and mango in a mango sauce (sweet but not too sweet) with a side of plain sticky rice. I left full and satisfied, with a full meal for another time. Can't wait to eat it :) We'll definitely be back, and we'll be bringing friends! This place is small. 6 to 7 tables. Decorated with Laos accents. We walked in and were seated by our waitress, hostess, food runner. Lol. They are definitely new at the food service business. We ordered out drinks. Two Thai teas and a sprite. The Thai tea here is excellent. Sweet, earthy and creamy. It's perfect. We ordered Tum yum goong (shrimp) was good but could have been served hotter. Yum woon sen (seafood) was served with imitation crab meat, shrimp and squid. Flavor for this dish is good. Yum neu (beef) is good. On the smaller side but good. Som Tum (papaya salad) was great. I asked for 5 hot peppers. This was spicy good. Larp gai was excellent. Authentic and spicy. I'd highly recommend this dish if you were looking for what Laos food can dish out. Lol. Nam khao is a rice salad. It is also excellent. Last but not least. Fried bananas. This was pretty good. Overall, this place is authentic in flavors. It is a hidden gem with really good food. Service could be alittle better and I think it will come with time and more experience. I recently moved to the area and per usual wanted Thai food. AmeriThai was delicious. I ordered a few dishes ( chu chee duck; pla rad prik; and basil fried rice) just to try everything out and get a feel for my new potential "go to". The duck was savory and the red curry which accompanied it was perfect! The basil fried rice was also delicious I chose spice three ( I'm not a fan of overly spicy) and thought this one was spot on. The ingredients and vegetables were fresh which is always a necessity/plus! Unfortunately I could not have the pla rad prik because they ran out of tilapia which was a bummer. But perhaps next time, I'll absolutely be going there again! read more
