Definitely a huge fan of Sophisticakes baked goods! I've had their cupcakes, cake cake, Cinnamon buns, cookies...all scrumptious and delicious! I am a HUGE fan of the Chocolate Salted Caramel cupcakes! I got a WAD of caramel under my icing and it appeared to be rolled in salty goodness...I've only been here 6 or 7 times, but have never run into any of the issues the 1 star reviewers have had. I guess you could ask them when the cakes were made, but I've never had a complaint from anything I've purchased there. As with any good bakery, it can be expensive...especially when you can't make up your mind and start sampling everything! But if you have a special event, stop by and check them out. Literally joined yelp to leave a review because they ruined my birthday. I asked for a 12" round cake cut in half with raspberry filling. I've made this cake personally and ordered it from my favorite bakery 7 years in a row(which unfortunately closed) . I know it's possible to cut a cake length wise (think hamburger bun) where you take the "top" off place the filling and put it back on. I didn't realize this company would cut it "up and down" and give me a half circle cake and call it round. Their "resolution" was a half hearted apology and a 10% coupon for future purchase. I got a half of a cake for double the price. I was willing to pay for half a cake and only wanted a refund of what I felt was overpayment. They "don't do refunds" I've been waiting I've been in management and customer service for 20 years and sometimes the right thing do is "give them the pickle" aka meet in the middle. Let me say I've eaten their cakes, pretty good. This is not about their quality. My fiancé called to speak with someone regarding us buying 100 + cupcakes, along with a wedding cake. We were told we would be given at least 10 minutes to come in and speak with someone. Good Friday was our time. When we arrived, we waited outside in line, which was fine. When it was our turn, and we got in to speak with someone, we were told the person was too busy to speak with us that day, come back another day. I'm sorry, if this is how you deal with customers, I will NEVER buy from your shop again. Maybe Sophisticakes has gotten just a bit too smug. I first had SophistiCakes for my high school senior prom 2013 and I have not stopped buying it since! The taste is always great the cake is moist the buttercream icing is immaculate and the staff is amazing no matter what type of event I have I'm getting cake from here. I would never recommend this bakery. My Mom requested I pick up a cake for her, bakery closes at 4 pm I arrived at 4:03. Several workers standing around, instead of acknowledging a customer, even to state, "Hey, We just closed!" They ignore me and wait for me to get in my car before coming out to bring in tables they had outside. Extremely rude. Not exactly sure if they are racist because I am ethnic or just have poor customer service. Either way they lost a customer and I'll make sure my friends and family know of this interaction. This tastes like a homemade cake!! This is NO box cake!! Box cakes are light and airy. Homemade cakes have weight and substance. This cake was absolutely delicious, moist, buttery, flavorful, and packed with goodness in every bite. Good with ice cream but that's not even necessary. OK, the regular sized cakes are delicious and they do a fantastic job decorating them. You could easily spend $70 on a 8" layered cake. Cakes with fondant cost more. But, the real stars here are the cupcakes which are miniature versions of the larger cakes at a more affordable price point. Real buttercream icing, pound cake, and fillings all made from scratch. I have not tried the gluten free options but they look good too!! Red velvet and lemon poppy seed are my personal favorites. It's best to let the cakes sit out a bit to soften up the real buttercream icing. However, if you're like me, sometimes you can't wait and it's ok to just dig right in. 'Nuff said. read more

I'm so pleased with Sophisticakes. I ordered a cheesecake for my boyfriend's birthday, a week in advanced. I've had other places tell me they needed more warning ahead of time to place an order. But not Sophisticakes!! I was so thankful, my boyfriend is battling cancer so I wanted to take the time to get him everything he loves, especially since he can't have sugar for a while. The cake was absolutely gorgeous. I was so happy to see how it turned out. I asked someone on the phone how tall it was going to be and the woman answered 2 inches tall. I decided to take the L and go through with it anyways. All I wanted was to customize the color of the icing for the birthday message. When I came to pick it up I was pleasantly surprised. It was a big and tall cake, and had a very nice weight to it. Cake was absolutely tasty, boyfriend really loved it. Sophisticakes makes a great pound cake. Their cakes, which can include chocolate chips, are the only reason I go here. I've gotten the cakes from the case day of, and ordered custom cakes. Downsides: cupcakes are hit or miss. Most of the flavors were disappointing. Their decorated cookies are overpriced. One time I needed two of the cakes from the case but wouldn't be able to get them until later in the day. So I called a few days ahead of time to reserve the cakes I would need. I was told they were no longer taking orders for that day, and would not be able to do that. I explained I didn't want anything special/custom, it was just that I would be picking them up late in the day and wanted to ensure they'd have the two I wanted. I even offered to pay in full in advance. They refused. Since their cake was my daughter's birthday request, I had to go as soon as they open to get the cakes I needed and bring them back home and was subsequently late for work. It was frustratingly bad customer service on their part because I wasn't asking anything more than for them not to sell those two cakes and they still wouldn't help. read more

Needless to say I was very disappointed. After letting the cupcakes sit out to come to room temperature,they were terrible, bland, stale, dry, and inedible. So I thought I'd have better luck with the macaroons, they were equally if not worse than the cupcakes. Stale. I could tell they were frozen before. And they had really poor execution.
