Food was delicious but service was slow and not very friendly. May visit again for pizza but hesitant to visit again because of not the best service.

Nestled in the Burnaby Heights neighbourhood, not far from the famous sign you'll find this Italian restaurant that serves a pizza made from a lower gluten content pizza. It comes with fresh mozzarella cheese and a tasty pepperoni. They have completely gluten free options, but not 100% celiac friendly due to using the same oven. I also recommend their tartufo pasta as I order it regularly via delivery.

Came to this pizzeria with friends and what a great experience!!! Nice decoration and their service was amazing. Loved their menu and their pizza was really yummy. Loved their cocktail as well.

Reasonable service but pricey. Good pizza and pasta but I recommend you go somewhere else for dessert. It's a bit loud. The sound echoes, making other tables conversations overly loud and the music is annoying to me: a combination of techno/elevator. I do really like the pizza but the wine is overpriced.

Pasta was so good. You can tell it's made in house. Pizza tastes good, it's thin crust style. The leftover pizza was surprisingly crispy after reheat in a small oven. Service was good

Food was amazing (loved the truffle and mushroom with the pasta but was not fan of the pasta shape. Too thick for me!) the service could've been better. Felt like there was only 1 waiter for the whole restaurant and anytime we looked around when we needed something we couldn't find anyone and had to wait awhile to flag them down. Ambience is so cozy and homey, unlike their other location which is very nice.

Came here party of 7. Ordered 3 pizzas and a variety of pastas. Every single pasta came out undercooked. Only the gnocchi came out good.. but for 30 dollars the portion was tiny.. Pasta was plain, sauces didn't really have any seasoning or any uniqueness or differences in taste. The braised rib that came with the gnocchi was dry and was small the size of a 4 by 2 Lego block. The 3 pizzas that were ordered came out cold.. we were sat right by the oven.. don't know how that was possible. The toppings were minimal the cheese was rubbery the crust was hard. And the pizza was so hard to eat. Was not impressed with any of the food. Or a place that stays that they grew up on commercial drive or ate at Nonna's I think they lost their way. For the prices on the menu I was not impressed with the meal at all. Also ordered a shot of espresso to start got half a shot.... For 3 dollars.. Sorry but I don't recommend this place. There is better tasting food for the amount you spend else where. The service was friendly but that's all this place had to offer.

Came ~1 hr before close with a reso and had to wait quite a while before we were greeted or seated. We were aware of when the restaurant was closing so we made sure to look at the menu beforehand and eat quickly. We ordered the calamari and prawns to start and, while the seafood had a great texture, the appetizer could have had a little more seasoning. Tzatziki was slightly more creamy than I would have liked; definitely had better in terms of flavour but overall we were impressed solely for the soft texture of the squid and prawns and the crispy coating. Maybe a 6.5- 7/10 Truffle/mushroom pasta came next and while I'm typically not a huge fan of truffle I figured we'd give it a try solely based on other reviews. THANK GOD bc it was absolute fire. The initial smell of the truffle was slightly overwhelming but when that first bite was flavourful and balanced. Still tasted strongly of truffle so all you truffle lovers out there will love it but it was mellow enough for a truffle hater like me to enjoy. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the rest of the mushrooms in the pasta were somehow not outshined but the mushroom!!! Solid 8-8.5/10. We finished with the contadina pizza because we heard their pizzas were their best dishes but I have to say, I was a little disappointed. The toppings were spread only in the middle of the pizza which, albeit, left the crust crispy but flavourless. The middle of the pizza was soggy and unable to hold the fillings that were on top. Some parts of the pizza were overly salty but that could be because of the pancetta topping soooo, I guess we kind of asked for it. 6/10. Would not order again. Service was good, considering we were the last table but we made sure to be out before closing.

Been meaning to check out Sopra Sotta Pizzeria with a few co-workers for the last few months. They have a second location on Commercial Drive. This location is nearby to Chad Thai. We dropped in on a Friday (around 11:45am) and were able to grab a table in the back for 6. The inside is beautiful and the pizza stove/oven is on full display. Only one waiter so it took some time to get our order in. The menu is split into antipasta, pasta, pizza and dolci. They also have a daily happy hour (3:00pm to 5:00pm weekends, 9:00pm to late Friday & Saturday) with a few drinks and pizzas on special ($10.00 to $16.00). It's a bit disappointing that they don't offer any lunch specials. - 2x Chitarrine al ragù ($20.00) - the spaghetti had a good al dente bite. Sauce was fresh and flavourful. Sometimes simple is best. A little pricey for what you get. It needed something else, a bit of meat would have balanced the dish. - Margherita ($15.00) - again, simple but tomatoes added a touch of sweetness. Dough had a good chew and slight, enjoyable crispness to the crust. - Vegetariana ($19.00) - co-worker found her pizza had too much going on and the vegetables weren't sliced thin enough. - Diavola ($18.00) - a couple others in our group shared this one. Didn't get to try. Not the cheapest spot but SSP is popular for a reason.

Antipasti - Toscana Salad ($16): The tuscan kale, farro, roasted tomagoes and shaved pecorino was pretty good and makes a fresh opening for the meal. (4/5) - Caesar Salad ($15): The romaine lettuce, fresh croutons made in house, grands cheese tossed in a creaming dressing was one of a kind. There are not many italian restaurants who serve og caesar salad. But the fresh croutons in my opinion was too crispy and hard. (4/5) - Whole Fresh Focaccia ($7): The made in house focaccia was interesting to see different part of focaccia it came from. Known as sciacchiatine croccanti. It was not my favourite focaccia but definitely interesting (4/5) Pasta - Caserecce e Tartufo ($28): The short twists of pasta made fresh in house creamy truffle sauce featuring a variety of mushrooms, parmigiano with smoked pancetta was the star dish in my opinion. It was very flavourful and sublime to the right extent. (5/5) - Tagliatelle al Ragù ($23): The long, flat pasta made fresh in house, authentic Bokognese sauce, parmigiano was good too, but it was farigna a legna did it better in my opinion. (3/5) Pizza - 'Nduja ($23): Mozzarella, smoked provolone, 'nduja, black kale, sweet corn was spicy and got up to the right taste. Very recommended to get. (4/5) - Diavola ($19.50): San marzano tomato sauce, mozzarella, spicy italian salami, grana, basil was basically margherita with the salami which was good too but the 'nduja was better. (4/5) Dolic - Tiramisu ($10.5): Savoiardi, espresso, mascarpone, cream, cocoa was up to di beppe and farigna a legna standard. But it doesnt beat piva and lupo's tiramisu. (4/5) Nonetheless, it was great to find another authentic italian place in town which has two branch: one is at hastings and another one at commercial drive. Although the pizza was made with wood fire oven to get that napoletana pizza, the pizza needed to be stretched even more. It should have been thinner on the inner side of the pizza and more airy on the crust of the pizza. I recommend adding more yeast and salt to the dough to get that correct texture of pizza napoletana. But Sopra Sotto Pizzeria was really good to come and try. Recommended for italian food in town. Cheers!

Hastings street in North Burnaby is such a hub for great food spots, and Sopra Sotto is no exception! I hadn't heard of this place before, but at a friends suggestion I went during happy hour and I left very impressed!! First impression when I walked in was how cute the set up was! Very modern and "Instagram worthy"! Next up was the menu, happy hour had a great selection, so we ordered pizzas off of that! We also got the house wine (not bad for a house selection), and the focaccia bread! The food in one word: incredible! I've had pizza in Napoli, Italy and I must say this is the closest it gets in Vancouver! The dough was amazing and light enough that you could probably finish the entire pizza in one sitting! The focaccia bread is the reason I wasn't able to finish my whole pizza. It was flavorful and when dipped in the vinegar/olive oil combo, it was a hit! Very impressed! I've definitely recommended this place to family and friends and will continue to do so!

We went at around 5pm on a weekday and we ended up being the only people dining there at the time. At around 6pm, people started to trickle in for dinner but it wasn't filling up too quickly. Sopra Sotto's menu is quite condensed compared to most of the Italian restaurants I've been to. They have a few antipasti dishes, a few pasta options and both vegetarian and meat pizzas to choose from. We decided to go with the Vegetariana pizza ($17) which came with an assortment of grilled vegetables, mozarella and grana cheese. Oracle has an obsession with zucchini on her pizza and I just like rainbow veggies so this was an obvious choice for us. The pizzas here are made Neapolitan style which means that they're cooked in a wood-fire oven. I thought that the center of the pizza was a little under cooked because it was on the limp side. The edges however, were nice and crispy.

The Pizza is delicious! Wood fired as well. I've had their pasta as well. This place is really good. I came here for their opening and during dine out. The staff seats you promptly and the food is very, very good here. They have a good wine list. But really I just come here for the wonderful pizza and usually have it with beer. I am quite impressed with the decor and the service here.

We ordered online which was simple enough. I think if you pay cash/debit in store , you get a free pop with each pizza. We got the meat lovers and chef's best pizzas and the website said it would take 30 mins to be made. It is a small turn in off Canada way into a Plaza with a few parking spots. You cannot turn back left onto Canada Way by the way. The inside had a dated look , kinda like diner vibes. Pickup was quick. Nobody dining in. First thing I noticed was the pizzas were very heavy in weight. For a 10" pizza I thought the price point was a but high at $23, it jumps up to around $34 for a 12"( medium). However, the pizza was almost like a deep dish pizza as there was a lot more dough than usual pizzas but a generous amount of toppings. Meat lovers was packed with meat but I just felt it was a good several bites before it started to feel too dense and greasy for me. The crust was crisp and cooked nicely. It reminded me of homemade pizza in the way that nothing really stood out to me. It was good , and filling, but just no wow factor for me. In conclusion though, I have many pieces for lunches for the week!

Also, we were not told that chilli oil costs extra, just asked if we wanted it. Our server sat us at the large table because all of the others were full. There is one more waitress who appears to be the boss or manager in some sort. She was quite arrogant when she approached us and told us, "You're not allowed to use all of the seats because this is a community table." We were just settling in and were unaware that it was a community table. I suppose in the service profession, there are better ways to phrase some things than to swoop in and command guests. Despite the fact that the pizza was delicious, we may not want to return to dine in. Service really matters to us. Even if the ambience and food is good, if the service make us feel uncomfortable and offended, it leaves a sour taste in our mouth.
