I had been going there for years, but recently had a very negative experience and would not go back. My '97 Honda has an engine check light that comes on occasionally, usually due to somebody not tightening the gas cap tight enough. Naively, I went in with the light on, not knowing they they won't pass a car with the light on. They knew when they drove it in that it wasn't going to pass, but instead of just telling me to get the light reset first, they went ahead and did the whole smog test, failed it for the light being on (it passed the actual smog test), and charged me the $48. When I asked why they did that, the woman as the counter was really nasty about it. So I went and got the light reset and then had to pay them another $28 for the retest. They jobbed me out of the $28, but lost a customer. Other places advertise "pass or free retest" but obviously these people don't have it. Beware. read more

I am buying a car and was looking to have a few repairs done. I called to ask about prices and the lady was INCREDIBLY rude and told me I could take my business elsewhere if I didn't want to bring in the car first. Sorry, lady but my time is also valuable. It was simply to replace a battery and the front brake pads...obviously they must charge WAAAYYY too high to be afraid to give out prices over the phone. And that ATTITUDE! Went on a Saturday right at 9am, when they opened. Long line already, didn't want to wait behind about 8-10 people. I drove right over to another shop at Soquel over crossing and HWY 1, no waiting, I was only person, in and out in 15 min and for less money than this shop posted. I can't really comment on service, since I left, so I gave 3 stars. When I asked how long the wait would be, all they did was point to many, many cars and say, "all these cars are ahead of you." I was dreading getting a smog check, my first one in the Santa Cruz area. I picked Soquel Smog because they were open Saturday until 1pm and close by. I picked a winner. They were fast, thorough, friendly, and reasonably priced. I'll be back. read more

If you are a woman attempting to smog check a car the manager doesn't believe a woman should be driving, he will make up reasons to fail your vehicle. Print out said pass - refused to submit paperwork to the DMV. Went down the street, vehicle passed and paperwork submitted. Went back to Soquel to get money back. They refused to return money saying I had caused the problem. Claimed returning the money was beyond his control and the vehicle should not have passed - a pure bred jerk! read more

Just had my smog and oil changed here. Good people and prices were reasonable. I'm coming back in the future.

This was the first time I've used their services. They were pleasant, efficient and after a passing smog check I was out of there in 20 minutes. Buyer beware: If your car does NOT pass the smog check, you will be required to pay additional fees for the re-check. Most places don't require you to pay on a re-check after you've had them perform the work. If you're confident your vehicle will pass the inspection, save yourself some money and go to Smog Check on Soquel. read more

I'm not sure but I think I may have been ripped off here. Went in for a smog check on my 2003 CRV which took almost an hour & I was the only one there. At one point the manager came in with the dust & pollen filters & showed me that they were very dirty & needed replacement. Told me it would be $58 so I said OK. Then after a bit he came back and from a distance showed me what he said were the replacement filters. Honestly I couldn't tell if they were new ones or if he had just cleaned my old ones. Did not get a good feeling from this. Maybe I wasn't ripped off but it sure felt as if I was. Maybe they just need to handle customers better. I would not go back. read more

Horrible customer service. I called an hour before I drove down from Felton to get a price on a smog check. No mention of store hours or that they were going to lunch soon. I can somewhat understand that however when I got there at 12:55 (they go to lunch at 1PM) the woman behind the counter helped the customer in front of me but then proceeded to tell me I would have to come back in one hour. I was stunned since it wasn't 1PM yet and she had just helped the customer in front of me. When I said I wish she had told me that on the phone she was rude and didn't seem to want my business at all. I went down to Santa Cruz Tire & Auto Care who were extremely professional and got my smog check done in 20 minutes. Don't go to Smog Check, go to Santa Cruz Tire & Auto. read more

These people are crooks and prey upon helpless older women. My 68 year old mother brought in her Honda Civic and it was promptly failed because of visual "blue smoke" even though it had never had a problem. They then gouged her $35 for the failed smog check and $200 to replace a $5 pcv valve and an $8 can of STP oil treatment and proceeded to fail her again bringing great distress into her life. On the advice of a real mechanic she took it to a reputable smog shop and passed no problem. When I approached the owner about a refund she refused to personally talk to me. I and many friends that have used her service no longer will. I've also reported them to the Bureau of Automotive Repair and the Better Business Bureau. read more

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. Absolutely terrible service and a rude staff My car failed its smog check because the check engine light came on, an automatic fail, but they charged me anyways ($45). Why would they run the check if the light came on and was, by definition, going to fail? It was a Friday afternoon and they told me they could run a diagnostic ($95) to see what the problem was, but I would probably have to come back on Monday to fix it. I agreed to this, they diagnosed a failing thermostat ($146) and I told them I'd be back in on Monday. I called on Monday to bring it in and was told they hadn't ordered the part and their mechanic was going on vacation and would try to get to it tomorrow. When I complained, Owen, the manager, said "I'm up against a wall what am I supposed to do?" Answer: PLAN AHEAD AND DON'T OVERPROMISE. I took the car to get it repaired at Northshore Ford for $20 cheaper and they did a fantastic job. Although a free retest was included in my diagnostic at Smog Check, I preferred to pay for a new one that deal with those people again. 15 minutes at Holiday Smog and I was out of their with a pass. read more

I made a big mistake of using this place. I was told that my gas cap was cracked and that if I did not replace it my car would fail the smog test. The technician said that he had a cap and would sell it to me for $14.95. I asked him are you sure that this is suitable for my car since I drive a Porsche. He assured me it was. So I trusted him and agreed. Five days later my check engine light came on. So I took my car to the Dealership. I was told by them that the Cap was causing an air leak and was charged $ 170.00 for the diagnosis . Please note that the dealership did not charge me for a new cap. When I contacted them afterwards -the manager was not prepared to compensate me for their error -all he offered was a refund of 14.95. So my advice is that not only do they not know what they are doing , their customer service is terrible. I would have pursued this further only one week later I had to go overseas for a personal matter and was too distressed when I got back.
