Nice atmosphere for families and even dog friendly outside. Basic Italian fare but don't expect anything special with your food. The "special" Chicken Saltimbocca was a very large plate of 3 breaded chicken breasts with melted cheese and some sliced ham; plain round potatoes and mixed veggies. I think the chef forgot to season anything on the plate. The shrimp scampi did have a tasty garlic butter sauce and the french bread was plentiful. Caesar salad also good. The staff are super friendly and didn't pressure our party to leave quickly even tho people were waiting in line to get in. We can't praise Sorella enough. We have thoroughly enjoyed dining there in person over the years because the food is outstanding, and the service and ambiance make each experience special. The sisters and their staff are warm and welcoming, and they treat customers like old friends. Ever since the start of Pandemic Sorella was our favorite restaurant for that extra special meal delivery, and they never disappointed. We joke that the food arrived (hot) the minute we hung up the phone (and we live about 10-15 minutes away). We especially love the Caesar salad with chicken, fried calamari, fettuccini with prawns, pasta primavera, and the eggplant parmigiana. The food from Sorella is consistently fresh and mouth-watering. My butternut squash ravioli were rubbery and floating in an oily tasteless covering. There were sage leaves place on top but really no sage flavor. Service was good, food was not. The restaurant is not visually appealing. It is a maze of tables, cramped close together. Very loud. Not for a romantic evening. My dining partner had gnocchi. They were not soft pillows, more like heavy, dense, gummy,and very chewy lumps. Heavy-handed very little finesse Will not be returning. read more

With Sorella Cafe it truly was love at first sight. This gorgeous little spot is full of warmth, love and delicious grub! Located across the street from the beautiful park that hosts the weekly Wednesday night Fairfax Farmer's Market which means you get a gorgeous view from your table inside Sorella. And dont worry if you don't score a seat by the window, the place is so beautiful and cozy all around with dim lighting and warm friendly service. As soon as you're seated, you'll be served a nice chunk of creamy parmesiano reggiano, straight from the giant wheel. I had been on the hunt to find a suitable replacement on the West Coast for my beloved Soya e Pomodoro (Miami) and Sorella has delivered!! These are my go to dishes at Sorella; Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli -or- Porcini Mushroom Ravioli...though whichever you choose you must ask for it with the walnut cream sauce (aka Maria Sauce) in lieu of whatever it comes with. My husband typically has the Ragu with either a meatball or sausage added and he loves it! The best thing about Sorella is that you can enjoy it casually with friends or make it an intimate date night. The atmosphere can't be beat. Following dinner, they'll bring you a cute little cup full of animal crackers and another with gummy bears! I've never had them but it's such a cute gesture. :) We've ordered take out once and they include the bread and chunks of parmesan too! I love Sorella. It was really a pleasant experience! We came for dinner and definitely enjoyed everything we had, from start to finish. "Caprese," "Mista Salad" and "Arugula Salad" were truly delightful Starters! For Main Courses, we had "Lasagna" and "Ling Cod" cooked with "Squid Ink Fettuccine." Both were perfection! Everything was quite enjoyably delicious and there will undoubtedly be a next time! They have a vast menu, and from what I heard, there is nothing disappointing in their menu. Judging from our recent experience, I'd say...."that is certainly believable!" Oh, I must not forget the desserts! They were amazing! We devoured some "Tiramisu" and "Chocolate Torte." More than satisfying! And I must make mention that service was nothing short of excellent! From the delicate twinkling lights beckoning you to come inside to the toasty fireplace, lei-draped Thinker statue, and warmly welcoming owner, Sorella delivers big in the category of endearing quirkiness and the neighboring community responds in spades. On the first bone-chilling night of fall, they served up: * Gratis wedges of Parmesan cheese and a big basket of bread * An Antipasto platter (about $10) laden with pepperoncini, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, and cured meats... plenty here for a party of 4 or more. * Spaghetti & Meatballs, Calamari Saute (served in a red sauce and accompanied by choice of pasta or vegetables), and a heaping plateful of rich Risotto Primavera with scallops, shrimp, and crab meat. * Passion fruit and mango gelato encased in a white chocolate shell ($6) plus the gratis bowls of gummi bears and cookies. All this plus a glass of wine and a tip came it at under $100. Three of us left laden with people boxes and ample food for another meal. If Sorella were in the City - which it never would be, as it is uniquely Fairfax - it's unlikely I'd go out of my way for it. Still, I've returned here often, friends and family in tow, and never once have any of us left anything less than completely satisfied. This restaurant came highly rated by locals we bumped into after a long hike at Point Reyes Station. This place was busy and every table inside and outside was taken. We lucked out just being a party if 2. We got a table quickly. The waitress was amazing!! She was very knowledgeable in the menu and explained and described the specials perfectly. I ordered the seafood pasta which was the "special" for the night and my husband ordered chicken piccata with red pasta. My husbands chicken piccata was delicious. I witnessed him literally inhale that dish lol My "special" was an EPIC FAILURE. Sorry :-( macaroni pasta with little to no sauce. It was just a plate of plain macaroni pasta with a butter sauce and capers on the bottom of the plate. It was like they put spoonfuls of tasteless butter sauce with capers on the plate and threw macaroni on top and sprinkled the noodles with 3 pieces of salmon "bites" (not kidding! Bite size pieces and only 3), and 2 cut up pieces of rock cod and a string of something that I'm sure came off of something that's seafood. Zero and I mean zero flavouring or seasoning. I took one bite of the flavourless salmon and paired it was flavourless macaroni and said, "Nope" and returned the plate. The waitress was sweet and removed the special off our bill. She brought another menu to see about ordering something else but my husband was done with dinner and I was just truly disappointed. They give you a free baggie of animal cracker cookies and gummy bears when you leave after paying your bill. I thought that was nice but odd. The love music and great wait staff has brought my you g again to the point where I wanted to dance during the music! The food was great as well! We ordered: Starters: warm olives. They come around with endless bread and this fresh parmagoin they cut right outta the wheel! Entree: I had the squid ink pasta with fresh seafood and red sauce. Heads up their red sauce is spicy. What a fantastic place in quaint Downtown Fairfax. Delicious Italian food served by lovely people in a cozy and festive setting with the occasional live music. Went here with my boyfriend and housemates to celebrate my birthday and it was an all around wonderful experience. The place was packed but the wait wasn't long. 20mins for a table for 5 around 8pm on a Thursday! Popular restaurant and for good reason. The decoration and lighting inside is welcoming and very cute. Service is attentive and water refills were timely. The hosts/owners (two sisters) are super sweet and really cares about your experience and the dishes they're serving you. They give good recommendations so you can always ask them if you can't make up your mind. Their bread (served a little chilled) was not the best, but the fresh Parmesan they chip off a huge block onto your plate to start the meal off was quite an experience and very tasty. Calamari and crab cakes for appetizer is highly recommended!!! Pasta dishes were all done really well. -Butternut squash ravioli could've used a little more flavor in the filling and/or sauce, but the sage paired with every bite kept me intrigued. -Fettuccine is cooked a perfect al dente. I'll prob get more of this next time! -Lasagna is a very generous portion and delicious. Can even feed 2 ppl. And for dessert, tiramisu was one of the tastiest we've had. But the best part of the night, was the man with the gray hair who sang and played piano with two other guys on drums and bass. FYI: I found out they play every other Thursday night. This jazz trio is what made my Sorella experience so unique - listening/watching him perform in the back room was delightful and the atmosphere was so fun, he had the whole room belting along. I love this place because They always have nice food. I have some food restrictions and it is important to order and trust the restaurant. I ordered salmon- just grilled salmon, no sauce- no extras! I wanted veggies but plain, the server/ phone person/ offered broccoli (which was perfect al- dente). I am one of those who thinks less- is more! Beautiful fresh salmon with a generous veggie side. One of my favorite spots in Marin. It's not fancy and can get a bit loud and crowded, but the food, warm service and great atmosphere make Sorella's a family favourite. We all have our "go to" meals here - mine is the Chicken Parmesan. The chicken is always perfectly breaded and the penne is always al dente. Dinner is always followed by a complimentary bowl of animal crackers and gummy bears - who can resist that?! If you or someone your with uses a wheelchair or a stroller, this may not be the best place to have dinner as it can get pretty tight. That said, if you do use either, I'd give them a call ahead of time. read more

Thanks to check please we found this gem and sampled their delicious offerings. The cheese is delicious and we tried the special pasta - torteloni with marscapone and asparagus, the special saffron risotto with crab, shrimp, scallops and veggies and the signature lasagna. All were made fresh and just fabulous. The flavors were in point and let them know it was hubby's bday and they brought him a dessert and even sang Happy birthday to him. Wow, really a big wow for this wonderful restaurant. first off the most important part, the food is excellent. My friend and I went in there on a Saturday night, First time -they had lamb shank on the menu and it was delicious, Perfectly cooked came with risotto and sautéed Swiss chard, which I normally don't care for, but it was perfectly prepared. My friend had ravioli with a meat sauce and it was excellent, but more importantly the service and the attitude of the staff is phenomenal -shout out to Sonya, Shelby and Heather and everybody else because they are just friendly, warm and wonderful people. Have you ever eaten Sorella Cafe's Lasana? If not, you are missing out! Soy and team prepared tow huge trays of this delicious lasana and two huge trays of Caesar Salad for a party we were having. The party was up north, most had never heard of Sorella's since it's mostly frequented by locals and pretty tucked away. It's a hidden gem for sure! Our guests loved the food and kept asking me all night where we got it and if they could take some of the leftovers home. There's already a pretty good following here but I think you might have gained about 30 more customers after our party! Thank you also for the incredible customer service and for having so many of your staff carry the food to my car!
