I can't speak to the dining experience, but we got takeout here and were pleased overall with our meals. My husband and I each ordered the udon (I got vegetarian) and thought it was good, with the right amount of a spicy kick, but not amazing. All was forgiven with the General TsoTso Cauliflower, though, which could have been a meal in its own right. Absolutely incredible and a very large portion. So if I hadn't ordered the cauliflower, I might have given this place three stars, but it definitely stole the show. read more

Tried this for lunch yesterday, it was absolute heaven. It's a little unassuming shop on Roosevelt, don't blink because you'll miss it and that would be sad. Everything is clean the staff is very friendly, I went right at opening so no wait, they do also deliver and pickup if dining in isn't your thing. I had the Drop the Mic Ramen and it was so amazing, I've been looking for great Ramen for a few years now and I've finally found it. My boyfriend and I just finished hiking the grand canyon and we were absolutely starving after, so we came here and tried a bunch of dishes. I honestly enjoyed the appetizer and salad a lot more than I enjoyed the ramen. Appetizer- had the pork and kimchi tostada. Thought this was a really cool and interesting mix. The tostada was crunchy and crispy. The flavors of the pork, kimchi, and ginger aioli went together really well and made this dish super tasty. We also had the tokugawa salad which I really enjoyed. There were a lot of different textures and I really liked the creamy ginger dressing that gave it a kick of flavor and taste. The ramens in my opinion were subpar. The mic drop was okay but the broth was lackluster and it felt like they just threw all the ingredients together without really thinking if they went together well or not. I felt the same about the katsu ramen. The chicken tasted kind of bland, dry, and under seasoned and everything on top was just there to be there. I've been here many times over the last few years. Love bringing friends and dates out because the vibe and the food are generally very amazing. Today was not one of those days. Hyped the place up to family and brought them to Sosoba for their first time. The place was packed for a Sunday so a bit of a wait was to be expected. Having our appetisers brought out to us around an hour after ordering was not a good start. Getting our edamame with a bowl for discarded pods that was clearly used by another guest and not cleaned was also super not great. Had to move our car because our meter expired before our actual food arrived. Not once in the time we were there did we get asked if we needed refills for our water or ice for our cups. We sat and waited while other guests who arrived after our similar sized party received their drinks, apps and meals before us. My gyoza ramen was bland. Noodles tasted of plain wet dough and the broth (which I usually dream about) was near flavourless. The gyoza were fine but my disappointment with the overall lack of taste for my order just tanked my thoughts on it . My mothers katsu ramen was cold and bland too, cold broth, mediocre doughy noodles. She ended up not even coming close to finishing it. My siblings had better luck with their ramen, which I'm thankful for at least. For all that I've ever enjoyed about this place over the years, one really poor visit has soured me from bringing people back. We joked about a long wait time being worth it here after a bad experience at another restaurant we had went to but that joke because a reality and it really really wasn't worth it. May give it another try in a few months. See if this Sunday service was just a fluke. But for now, I'm So-so on Sosoba. read more

I had high hopes for SoSoBa. We're always looking for places to eat downtown that have decent vegan options. The menu was very promising - several items either were vegan by default or could be made so with small tweaks. We started with the Fried Tofu and Thai Peanut. The tofu squares were great! They were lightly breaded and fried perfectly. The peanut sauce was more like peanut butter with a bit of soy sauce, with sriracha on top of half of it. It wasn't bad - it just wasn't great. Admittedly, I'm a peanut sauce snob, but this didn't come close to being crave-worthy. For the entrees, I had the S.U.V. with tofu and my husband had the Yakisoba with tofu. The S.U.V. had a light but fairly bland flavor. The tofu was sparse and the same type as the appetizer tofu. I wanted to spice up the sauce but it was a very unique green curry flavor so I couldn't figure out which of the multiple sauces offered in the cart would work with it. It was a generous portion, so I ate just enough to be full. The Yakisoba was similarly underwhelming. The peanut sauce was more "saucy" than what came with the appetizer, but the dish needed more soy sauce to add flavor. It was actually fairly dry. I'd like to think maybe I just didn't order the best items, but I wasn't impressed enough to want to go back. The service was fantastic and the location is great. I would not recommend this location. We had a terrible experience here! A group of friends and I came in and the waiter told us it was about a 10 minute wait and we immediately got seated. After we got seated we didn't see our waiter for about 30 minutes before we ordered drinks. We only ordered 1 beer and waters all around. Took about 30 minutes to get our drinks. When she dropped off our water, one friend went ahead and ordered his meal because he was ready to order and the rest of us needed more time. About another 20 minutes until our waiter came back. As she was taking our orders, my friends food came out but they brought out his order wrong. When he pointed out he ordered something different, she immediately got mad at him and started yelling at him that his order was right and that he did not order a different ramen. My friend repeated his order to her and when she realized she was wrong she stormed off and never got the rest of our orders. She never came back to check on us, half of us didn't get to order (me included). When we would try to get her attention she would give us a dirty look and walk away. The bartender also give us horrible attitude when she dropped off a few more beers because she asked us something but we didn't hear her the first time so when we asked her to repeat herself, she acted like it was the end of the world that she had to repeat herself. Once again we tried getting someone's attention because we needed more water and the waiter flat out ignored us. She came back about 40 minutes after she got our orders trying to act all nice because it was time to pay. When she was doing the total for everyone she got mad that half of us ordered and when I tried to tell her she walked away again. Our waiter was a small petite girl with short hair and bangs. I was looking for a place to eat late at night in Phoenix and came across SoSoBa. SoSoBa is open daily from 11 A.M. to 2 A.M. so this is a great spot for all the night owls or for any time of day. The well-stocked bar has some creative cocktails and plenty of sake to choose from, and the food menu is focused on noodles and a few appetizers. I have tried the pork belly bao, drunken pork gyoza, and katsu ramen. The food is good, but it is on the saltier side. Salty food goes well with beer though. The staff is cool, and the space has low lighting and a hip vibe. The outside patio space is open during the daytime though for those wanting more light or air. The restaurant is a smaller space so I do not recommend bringing a larger group here, especially since everyone will need to look for parking. This is downtown so street parking is your best option. Finding parking can be tricky during the daytime, but I had no issue with finding parking during late night. This feels more like a late night spot anyways since most places are closed during that time. read more

This place is incredible! I went here for lunch with my best friend :D We ordered the Gyoza, Bao Buns (with pork belly), and the sweet chili chicken. Everything was 10/10! The buns were soooo juicy and so soft! They come with some type of sauce on top, but the bread is sooo good and soft! We loved those, very filling. The sweet chili chicken is packed with flavor! Nothing too spicy and really crunchy. So delicious, we both loved that one too. You get 6 gyoza which was perfect for splitting and we loved the sauce it comes in! For drinks, I tried the watermelon sangria and white linen! The watermelon sangria was good, it was on the sweeter side. I loved the chunks of watermelon inside :D the white linen drink was light, refreshing, and pretty. My best friend got the June rose and their mule. The june Rose was pretty and also delicious. It comes with like a foam on top, it's really really good. We sat at the bar and met Nikki! She was very kind and down to earth. We like that she's tried many of the drinks because she helped us pick out ours and we loved that she spoke so highly of the place and how much she loved working there! I REALLY want to love this place, but we always have a hard time understanding why it can be so inconsistent. The atmosphere and location are pretty spot on for Phoenix (respite from the heat, dark, but not too dark). The first thing you might notice when you come in is a pretty rank smell. TBH, this is probably a good part of what we can't quite overcome. The service has always been good, but the food doesn't measure up, even to Phoenix's minimal Ramen standards. If we get the vegetarian/vegan options, it is almost always dry and overcooked. This time it was the Mothra that put us off. We'll keep trying, since they offer a good range (and are in the neighborhood), but this place is a bit of a mystery to us. read more

I liked this place. It reminds me of the little places you find in New York City's Village. We were greeted immediately as we walked in and told to sit anywhere. Our server was very nice and gave recommendations for their ramen. We ordered the Mic Drop and Tin tin. Both were great. The only thing I didn't like in the mic drop was the kimchee. As for my bowl, the sourness of the kimchi and the shredded pork overpowered the broth. It was very salty and i tend to like salty foods. The Okinawa had a nice seafood base for the broth but it was definitely overly salty as well. We always appreciate a soft boiled egg done right and it sure was! My wife and I just attended SoSoBa last night for some drinks and food after going to a few places prior. We noticed that it seemed to be all about online orders because as we sat at the bar, people were walking in behind us to pick up their food. Ot took a long time before we were asked if we wanted to order. The guy behind the bar acted like we were bothering him, and they seemed to be more interested in socializing with each other than the guests. The food wasn't bad but not extremely authentic. I think it's more influenced by Mexican foods and culture, which is great, but it might not be what you're looking for. I won't be coming back because I don't like being treated like I'm a bother when I attend a restaurant or bar. They had no menus, COVID was forever ago, get the menus printed again. They also recommended nothing to eat or drink. This place needs a manager ASAP!!! read more

Went to this place mainly because it was within walking distance of the Japanese Friendship Garden. It had a pretty cool vibe. There were little retro Easter eggs hidden around the restaurant (a Super Nintendo game, and Batman throwing star, a Mario bros lamp); it was fun looking for them. Tried Sosoba for the first time in Flagstaff, and it was amazing. I thought maybe it was a fluke, that I was just hungry that day and it was properly cold to make ramen extra comforting, but in repeat visits to Flagstaff, we would return to Sosoba and enjoy it equally each time. When I found one in Phoenix, I had to try it. It wasn't quite the same, and maybe it's just because it was an off night. We called ahead of time since we were a bigger party (6) to make sure they had seating available, and they said they do, but outdoors. It was a very cold night, so before we drove there, I asked if they had heaters in their outdoor seating. I was told yes, but once we arrived, there was no such thing. It's not easy to find parking in the area, so since we already spent a lot of time looking for parking, we decided to brave the cold and just eat in their outdoor seating area with our down jackets on. I think that ruined the experience over all. The ramen got cold very quickly after being served, making it harder to enjoy the rich flavors, so it just ended up being a bit of a meh experience for the group. I felt badly because I had hyped the place so much, I hate to think I disappointed my group, since they had never tried this place before. read more

Took a while to get anyone to our table to take our drink order and when someone finally came, she got my honey's drink order and completely ignored my daughter and I and didn't even return with his drink, a kind man wearing a beanie ended up coming to take our drink and appetizers order and bring us water. Our appetizers, the spring rolls, came out fairly fast. They come with a tasty chili sauce that wasn't too spicy for my 8 year old and the spring rolls themselves were delicious!! It was our first time trying ramen and we are so glad we came here. Although initially discouraged, this ended up being a great little restaurant/bar. The server we ended up with was very attentive, he definitely made our visit! The ramen was delicious, my honey and I got the Katsu and my child chose her add ons from the kids menu which made it easier for her to pick AND the kid's bowl was still about the same size, if not the same, as ours. My honey was very impressed by the drink selection, he even got a little courageous and tried a matcha flavored beer. The rest of our food was good but nothing fantastic, the portion size were small and pricey for the portion size. Everything on the menu seems to be $15 or more. My mom had the bulgogi street nachos, I had hostile takeover, brother had the Mic Drop and his girlfriend had the Gyoza Ramen (double broth & noodles $6 extra). Then had an order of gyoza for the table, which were really good. The service was good but when we first got there it was happy hour time but waitress didn't come over till 6:05 to take our order which was OK cause according to their website HH is till 610pm. I ordered the HH hostile takeover and the waitress tells me HH ended at 6pm, I said the website says 610pm which she responded well that's for takeout orders dine in HH ends at 6pm for policy. My brother then spoke up and said well there are no dine in menus the only menus available are the online takeout/delivery menu which does state ends at 610pm, the waitress then stated ok she would give me the HH pricing. The ramen here is good, and since we're downtown locals we've been coming here for a couple years now. The prices were always a bit high, yet we don't mind paying for good ramen. However, the price seems to have gone up drastically. Most ramen bowls here are $15, and if you order takeout (whether from a food runner app or simply calling it in to pickup), they charge a $7 tip and then the tax on top of it. It was $38 for two bowls! Great ramen, just very pricey due to what I assume is over compensation from slower orders during the tough 2020 year. read more

I came here around 2:30pm for happy hour with my girlfriends BUT happy hour doesn't start until 5pm. It's from 5-6pm daily. The drinks are amazing and my bartender Frank is just as awesome! The drinks are strong but not overbearing. He's very personable and made my first time here one to remember. I will definitely be back! There's artwork on the walls that are quirky and unique. I like that the spot is small and welcoming. There is also an outside seating area that's really nice during the day because you can people watch and watch the cars as they go by.
