I have to say that I had a much better experience several years ago and had a much better memory of this place than when I went back to get ramen the second time. However!!!! This was partially just because when we looked up the menu online, the ramen was several dollars cheaper than when we went in and that was kind of disappointing to find. Overall, the staff was totally loving and supportive, great company to talk to and beautiful people in general. I would have loved to go back to try more food there honestly if the prices were what they had been in the online photos I'd found. I tried the bulgogi ramen which was just more or less just not what I expected because the meat was very thickly cut and much more salty than traditional korean bulgogi - otherwise I would've loved this ramen. So many mushrooms and toppings galore. PLUS VEGAN RAMENS! SO MANY VEGAN OPTIONS!!! I just couldn't choose. Would definitely go back. Loved the outdoor patio for people and pup watching as well. Noodles were a little undercooked, the egg was straight up hard boiled, and the broth tasted kind of rushed. The tonkatsu portion was tiny too. For $18, that's a tough sell. I've had way better ramen for less, so this just felt like corners being cut. My first time at Sosoba and the ramen did not disappoint! It was so good I would definitely come back for more. One thing I learned is they have a killer happy hour... I think it's like 50% off the ramen so I need to swing after 5pm I believe. This isn't a vibey restaurant by all means. It's a pretty cool small space with plenty of seating and it serves the best ramen in the valley. You'll love it! Only feedback I have is the server mentioned to the cooks she has a Nigerian and asked for some Tylenol, which automatically got me thinking "shoot she's probably sick." I'm surprised that this place has a 3.7 rating as I thought it was very good. The Beef Bao was bomb, (no alliteration intended). It's a little bit over sauced, but the steak quality is very good and that's hard to find in Phoenix. The bun is outstanding, firm on the outside, soft on the inside. Just a little less sauce, less goopiness, and it'd be perfect. My "Mic Drop" soup was excellent. I went with ramen noodles because I don't like fighting with udon and want fewer carbs. The broth was excellent as was the meat quality with the ham, pork belly, bacon, and carnitas. (I also did no egg because I don't trust the US egg supply anywhere. That includes cage free, free range, pasture raised, anything.) I was torn between 4 and 5 stars. The interior isn't great. The service was very good if not great. The ramen itself is pretty decent - the noodles were perfectly cooked and the toppings I got in the Katsu bowl were very tasty. The broth was solid but not remarkable: it wasn't super salty (which is good) and had some seasoning but the depth and richiness wasn't entirely there. But overall, for how good a deal the happy hour special was, I couldn't complain. The drinks are on the stronger side so I was very happy with that. We were waling in at about 10 min till 5 and as we were seated by the hostess she let us know that all noodles and most beers wine and cocktails would be on happy hour prices within 10min. Holy cow... both were out of this world, full of flavor and textures i couldn't get enough. Happy hour came around, i ordered their version of the mule and the Tantan Ramen will my husband ordered Mothra(vegan) . And I was impressed from the minute I walked in and was greeted by a very friendly server, who helped me understand how hot or not their food was spice wise. I took her advice and had Gyoza Ramen soup with half spicy broth, and it was perfect. I could've used a little more kick but the flavor was wonderful. I also tried the mac & cheese ball with Sriracha which was delicious as well. The one tricky part about coming here is street parking. I and a friend of mine went to Sosoba yesterday afternoon on the advice of another foodie associate. The experience wasn't bad, but nor was it good. However, after spending $82.54, getting a touch of food poisoning was not what I expected. Both I and my friend experienced stomach issues this morning. I developed a sour gassy stomach overnight and this morning suffered with constant burping with the smell of the sweet chili chicken. We thought this would be a nice experience since it received a good review from the person that suggested it. The establishment is cozy, with a neighborhood bar feel; the vibe is a first date or meet up before a movie. The service was lackluster, and the food came out rather slow, although we were advised that there was only one cook inhouse at the time. We ordered the shishito peppers, wings, gyoza, sweet chili chicken, seaweed salad, 2 hostile takeover, a house margarita, and a glass of pinot noir. Nothing was hot in temperature as it should have been, at least not for our table. Everything came out luke-warm, including the seaweed salad. We sent the hostile takeover back because the broth was bland and cold; I imagine it's what mop water would taste like. Both were taken off our bill. However, to still have spent almost $155 ($82.54 for my portion) between myself and my friend this was not a great experience. Needless to say, I will not be revisiting Sosoba, mostly in part due to after effect the chicken dishes. read more

Sosoba started in flagstaff quickly becoming a favorite and soon opening this second location in Downtown Phoenix. The location is small, but cute and fun. We tried the ring of fire appetizer, gyoza, tantanmen ramen , hostile takeover. Everything was delicious. Service was a bit slow for how dead it was inside, but not the worst. I'd recommend adding a bit of sriracha or chili sauce to the hostile takeover to give it more of a kick. The meat was cooked perfect and rice noodles not over done.
