My husband and I eat here at least twice a month. Tonight I went to with a group of friends to try their Houston Restaurant Weeks menu. We were not disappointed. I ordered the grilled peach salad that is similar to their grilled pineapple salad. It was delicious and an appropriate side salad size. Next I had Steak with Roasted Pineapple Mole which is similar to their Summer Steak. This one had an added pineapple mole underneath and a delicious quinoa with nopales side. For dessert I chose Pan De Elote. Yum! I was able to retry the mini chalupa split which was also good. My daughter had Cactus Prickley pear Shrimp ceviche and said it was delicious as well. I'll be back to try the other dishes this month. Definitely worth the trip. Almost forgot I tried the Smoke pineapple tangerine margarita. It was good and spicy. read more

My husband and I visited Sotos for Fathers Day. On his second bite into his dinner, he bit into something hard, and discovered it was a NAIL clipping. This was the most DISGUSTING and UNACCEPTABLE thing we have ever dealt with while eating out. To start, I wanted to give this place another chance after giving it a couple years break. About two years ago, there were small roaches on the walls. We did not come back for a few years after that. Today was the first time giving it another chance and of course were not only disappointed but felt the need to let others know how disgusting this place operates. We live nearby and of all the nearby Mexican food establishments, this one is known to have a better menu, BUT AT WHAT COST? I started by ordering a queso for our chips and I had a Paloma. The drink was good and queso was also. Unfortunately, this place will forever loose our business. Go at your own risk, knowing the establishment has a history of small roaches and NASTY kitchen handlers. This is yet another dump in the area. I wish there were good options in this area. Juan...if you are still the owner please hear this message: I said that I was going to come back to Soto's after 12 months from my last review to see if the atmosphere and service have changed. It has NOT; after 2 years. The paper schedules are still at the end of the bar obstructing space. They barely greeted me, only until I gave eye contact. I ordered a drink and no one followed up with me to ask if I wanted food or if I needed anything. They are looking at me like I don't belong, and maybe I don't in this establishment because I feel totally unwelcome. I'm sitting here watching managers and staff smiling, greeting other patrons, so customer service isn't lost on this staff. I will never set foot in this place again, and I DO NOT recommend you to spend your money in this establishment...the only good thing, was the bartender made a good margarita and the pico based salsa was spicy, flavorful and the right consistency. One other observation....when the bartender collected my empty margarita glass she took two napkins to pick it up. One on either side and transported it to the repository. I sat and watched how she handled the couple sitting next to me empty glasses...you guessed it. She touched their glasses with her bare hands around the rim. NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!! I've ordered from Soto's Kitchen through Uber Eats twice now, and while the food is absolutely amazing, the way takeout orders are packed is unacceptable. The first time I ordered, I ordered four different salsas but only received one small bag of chips. On top of that, the salsa and charro beans spilled into the bottom of the bag and all over the other smashed food containers because everything had been packed into a single paper bag. Thinking it was just an oversight, I gave them another chance. This time, I even called the restaurant immediately after placing my order to explain what had happened previously and politely asked them to please take extra care when packing my order so it wouldn't happen again. Unfortunately, the exact same thing happened. This delivery included five separate orders packed into one brown paper bag. The weight caused the containers to become crushed, the lid on my charro beans collapsed inward, and the beans and salsa leaked throughout the bag. The bottom of the bag was soaked, food was everywhere, and it was leaking so badly that I had to hand the Uber Eats driver a wet paper towel so she could clean herself before leaving. It really sucks to spend over $100 on a meal only to open the bag and find a leaking, smashed mess. The photos speak for themselves. The food at Soto's Kitchen is consistently delicious, which is what makes this so frustrating. The problem isn't the food--it's the complete lack of care when packaging takeout orders. Packing five separate orders into a single paper bag is unacceptable and completely avoidable. Large orders should be divided into multiple bags, and customers should receive the correct accompaniments, like enough chips for the salsas they order. I wanted to support this restaurant, and I even called ahead to help prevent this from happening a second time, but nothing changed. Until they start taking better care when packing takeout orders, I can't recommend ordering delivery. No customer should spend over $100 and receive their meal in this condition. One star because the overall experience was unacceptable, despite the food being excellent. read more

When you walk in it gives you a welcoming vibe. Lol especially when their shirts say no wifi have a convo or something like that. The salsa they provide you can definitely taste chili powder in it. I asked for jalapeños to be added to the guacamole which they did but I should've asked for them to be cut smaller and mixed in. The young lady who assisted us made recommendations. They turned out to be good choices. I forget the combo I had but it came with a tamale, enchilada, and a steak taco. The steak was so delicious. It was cooked to perfection. My husband and I had a long week and wanted to end it with a good meal and a margarita--Soto's Cantina did not disappoint! We both ordered mango margaritas and enjoyed every sip. I had the Summer Steak with rice and beans, which was delicious, and my husband went with the chicken and beef fajitas. He loved them so much he had to take the rest home. The chips and salsa were amazing too--just wish they were served a little warmer. We sat inside this time, and while it was pretty busy with lots of conversations happening, it didn't bother us at all--once we were seated it felt like our own little world. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly, and I have to say, I enjoyed being called "madam" for a moment there (made me smile, lol). this is the worst experience that I've had there and it's been marginal at best. It is so loud you cannot hear anybody talking next to you number one number 2 , valet parking out front with no traffic going on at all and no tollway zones anywhere so they are on your butt all the time about where to not park but there's no to park number three. I ordered the flautas from Sotos Canteen Kitchen and, unfortunately, it wasn't my favorite. The flautas were nicely fried and crispy on the outside, but the chicken filling was very bland and lacked seasoning. The rice was a bit hard, while the beans were just okay. The sides felt a little thrown together, and personally I don't like my food touching, so the presentation wasn't ideal for me. Overall, the dish looked promising but didn't quite deliver on flavor, and I'm not sure I'd try them again. read more

Great Mexican Restaurant in the Cypress area. Combo #6 is my favorite. I was so hungry that I forgot to take a picture of it. LOL. The steak is also a great dish! And their salsa is more addictive than crack, so be careful. The servers and managers are always very nice and work fast to get you taken care of as quickly as they can. Sometimes it's really busy, and sometimes it's not. No rhyme or reason to it. So if you have a big group, I'd make a reservation just to be safe. Outdoor seating is nice when the weather is good. Indoor do I g room can get a little loud when they are busy, but it all adds to a fun night out having Mexican food. read more

A follow up visit a few weeks later has cemented my claim that this place is a must if you are looking for fantastic service to match fantastic food. The place is always busy and very loud, which is perhaps its only drawback. Too loud. I don't think there is much to be done about that however, so I am not going to take away from the review for that. Just know, this is not a place to have a quiet conversation. The food is wonderful. I did cave and order the chicken mole enchiladas again. I had to, they are so worth it. The Cuban rice is one of my favorite side choices now. The rice did seem a bit dry this time, but only just a tad bit, but the plantain hit just right and all was forgiven. The carne asada (fajita) plate wqs good - it comes with rice and beans, grilled onions & a half grilled jalapeno- The food was good but it comes with only 1, yes you read correctly, 1 tortilla - but it's not a traditional tortilla- it was a 3inch round tortilla!!! What??? I could ot make a fajita taco with one tiny 3inch tortilla- I sure hope that management makes a change and provides at least 2 regular sized tortillas with every meal. Sotos is such a special place to have in this part of town. It's an excellent restaurant and it's not another hole in the wall. Located in an older wood framed building in a cute area, it issues rustic Mexican flair and colors without being garish. I have been coming here for at least three years now on an almost weekly visit and have never been let down. The lunch specials are very well priced (most at $13-16) and usually include two items, guacamole and rice and beans. The chicken enchiladas have consistently been tender shredded white meat chicken and delicious. The fajita meat, whether in a taco carbon or alone as a steak takes the prize though. I have had fajitas all over this city and state and I'll put these flame grilled fajitas against the best. In my opinion they taste better than Lupe Tortilla and, El Tiempo and Papasitos. Those are delicious but these have just the right smoky grill flavor, are consistently tender, always cooked to medium rare, and never chewy. When I go out of town for more than a week I miss this place more than my wife's cooking! This a rarity in this area of town. Service is excellent also. Bests most places in town. read more

It's just basic TexMex, but you should know that the salsa is a weird mango or peach, not a toasted tomato. And it's cold. Chips are just ok. The red sauce on the enchiladas was too much like tomato soup. In fact, I awoke in the night wanting to vomit. The beef enchiladas also had some gristle so that was a turn off. I know people love this place but I found it underwhelming. Maybe it was an off night? I do think it's worth a visit. It's a cozy little place. read more

Real cool Mexican restaurant in the suburbs. It's not your typical chain nor your classic strip mall tex-mex place either. It seems the owners try to honor a mix of Mexican traditional (from San Luis de Potosi) dishes fused with Venezuelan cuisine influences. Our servers were great. We also met Israel, a host there, really welcoming young guy explaining us the care they put into the dish preparation. We only had appetizers and they were delicious. Shrimp Empanadas and black beans empanadas, they were yummy and accompanied by a green sort of mojo sauce I still wish I could have the recipe for. Everything was fresh and really tasty. The margaritas were delicious and super loaded. The best is the wrap around patio where you can be at with your furry friend. They even accommodated us with fans to help out with the heat of the season. There is really limited parking, so take this in mind when planning to go. We will definitely go back and try out more dishes. Great place and ambience! read more

So the highlight of dinner here was the fresh-squeezed, lemonade, which we both thought was absolutely stellar. We needed the sweetness of that to offset the spicy heat of the table salsa and the shrimp cocktail we ordered. We think the shrimp à la Plancha and the Molé enchiladas probably tasted pretty good, but we couldn't be sure because our taste buds were slightly blown out. Best TexMex in NW Houston, hands down. The chips and salsa are fresh and well balanced. Salsa has a slightly smoky essence, on the chunkier side, like pico, with a lot of cumin and finely chopped cilantro. The drinks are strong, but also balanced, crafted well with options like avocado and smoked pineapple. Service is attentive, but not intrusive, even on busy nights. The building feels like a converted house, like you're coming to someone's Latin Grandmother's place, that has had additions put on to accommodate the extra guests.
