The service was great, the food was good and I loved the authentic Italian vibe. I had their stuffed artichoke and liked it so much that I went back and got it for takeout the next day.

All in all a good meal. Wednesday night there were two tables taken when we arrived. So the place was mostly empty. Mike our waiter was very pleasant and the two other servers were efficient and friendly. My only complaint is the pasta needs to be al dente. The crab cakes were surprisingly decent, not a ton of bread crumbs and good crab flavor. I would get them again. The meat lasagna was too mushy for my liking and not enough pasta, but the sauce and mozzarella ratio was good. The linguini con vongole was huge with lots of clams, can't go wrong here. The eggplant rollatini was another good size portion for an appetizer and was excellent. The ricotta was blended with spinach and there was a good amount of sauce and mozzarella. I'd get the tiramisu and cannoli again in a a heart beat. Neither were sweet and both were fresh. There's two tv's here so you can eat and watch tv. Not my thing, as it takes away from the atmosphere of a nice restaurant, but the artwork and softer lighting were great. Saw the Valentine's menu which is a deal.

We took Mommy and Sandy here to try their food. We sat outside in the nice weather. We had to sit outside anyway because we had Sandy. The waiter Patricio was nice enough to give a bowl of water to Sandy. We ordered hot Antipasto, lentil soup, minestrone, seafood pasta, and the Bronzino. Of all the food, the soup and fish were delicious. The seafood pasta was just average. The sauce didn't make it to the top. I was hoping that this place would make great tomato sauce. The fish was delicious, but one thing I wouldn't say I liked when it wasn't broiled but fried. However, Mommy enjoyed it a lot. I did, too but wasn't crazy. Lentil soup and minestrone were excellent! Hot Antipasto was very good. We have to go back and try different dishes to see whether they have other entrees we like from here. The service was excellent! Everybody worked as a team and helped each other. The restaurant has a parking lot at the Steve Madden's building for their guests. We found a parking spot right in front of the restaurant. We got lucky!

Penne alla vodka, chicken alla Donato, fried calamari

I was a bit skeptical to order from here after reading some of the reviews but several people from the neighborhood claimed their food was really good. We ordered penne alla vodka with grilled chicken, chicken alla Donato with a side of linguine in garlic and oil and fried calamari. I have to say all dishes were really good and the portions are very generous. The fried calamari was delicious even if it lost a bit of the crispinesses due to being a delivery. The chicken alla Donato was juicy, tender and full of flavor. Now the penne alla vodka was put of this world. Everything we got was really good but this dish was the real winner. The penne sauce it's one of the best I ever had. Will definitely be ordering from here soon.

Always delicious! Whenever I'm in the neighborhood I always try to make eating here happen!

Update on my review 7/2/22 I ordered baked clams which were good but the baked ziti was the WORST and most disgusting tasteless dish I ever had. This place is normally good so maybe the chef tonight just didn't care about my food. I'm Really upset because I want my money back and now I have to order from a diner since I can't eat the pasta !!!

Donato's is a classic neighborhood Italian restaurant with great food at reasonable prices. We loved the crab cakes, eggplant rollatini, and linguine with white clam sauce. The professional wait staff is awesome and attentive. Great selection of wines and desserts too.

I love Donato's and the waiters there. We had Michael. Very sweet. I had the veal and spumoni Truffle. Sarah had shrimp franchisee.

    Penne alla Vodka with Chicken

A friend of mine is staying in Sunnyside for a few weeks and I trekked out from Manhattan to have dinner with her on a Saturday night. Donato's was recommended to her by a cab driver who has lived in the area for 15 years so we thought we would give it a try. It was easy to make a 6:30 outdoor reservation that same afternoon. It wasn't crowded when we arrived, but they did good business throughout the night with most of the tables full. The penne vodka was excellent! Well cooked pasta and delicious sauce. My only negative was the chicken was full pieces which was difficult to cut into bite size pieces in a bowl of sauce. The portion was huge, I took half of it home for the next day. Service was slow and a bit messy, we had several dishes and drinks brought to our table by mistake, meant for the table next to ours. We were there for about two hours, about 45 of which was waiting on our check that I think they forgot about. We didn't ask directly for it and were happy chatting, had we been in a rush it might have been harder. But the staff was pleasant. There was also a cool vintage style band playing outside. The live music was a big plus, and I think I heard they play every Saturday night. Overall, I'd come again if I was in the neighborhood, but not worth making the trek regularly.

The mafadine pasta was a good pick adorned with springy components like pea leaves and a compelling Parmesan vibe. Maybe I like vegetables more than I thought? The steelhead carpaccio special was a stunner. Based on my 1.5 bites of monkfish I'd also endorse that. This may be more of a "DVD extra" but when I originally looked up the QB many of the top-ranked items were breakfasts and some were p-zza (reverse SEO). Based only on lower-left menu placement I would say don't go that route and that specials are a good bet. Again this is only based on 1.5 bites but the eggplant parm special had great sauce. I'm undecided on the watermelon granita which wasn't all that watermelony but spicy dessert was different. I was surprised by how much I liked the edamame, since you can get that everywhere, but the Japanese 7-spice add an intriguing citrus kick.

Before the game even got going, they welcomed us with warm, perfectly baked French bread and butter. That's how you know you're off to a good start. We kicked things off with the Beef Bourguignon, and wow... rich, tender, and packed with flavor. Next came the Grilled Octopus & Chorizo with paprika butter roasted fingerling potatoes--smoky, perfectly cooked, and absolutely worth ordering. Then came the heavyweight champion: Le Steak Frites. A perfectly medium-rare grass-fed strip steak covered in a green peppercorn white sauce with crispy fries. Zero complaints. Just clean plates. The match was exciting, the food was outstanding, and for a couple of hours it honestly felt like we were sitting in a little corner of Paris instead of Queens.
