I've been a soul dental patient for 3 years and I keep coming back because I love their staff. Everyone from the front desk team, to the hygienists and the doctors are always very pleasant and eager to help. I'm kind of a baby in the dentist chair and I have very sensitive teeth around the gum line so I always ask for extra care and numbing gel before a cleaning. My hygienist always accommodates me and is very careful not to cause me any discomfort that isn't absolutely necessary. (Sometimes I just have to deal with it haha) The office is clean, modern and has fast wifi. I always get seen within 5 minutes of my appointment time and all billing charges are explained to me in advance before proceeding with any work. In fact, I usually get a text a few days before the appointment telling me about any co-pay requirement. Give soul a shot if you're in Chelsea or on the far west side. They make going to the dentist suck a lot less than usual. I always end up laughing and smiling because the staff makes sure of it. read more

Very very bad experience. I relocated to NYC and wanted to go for a cleaning. First they were so insistent on X ray, which I declined. Then they took camera photos claiming they have to even tho I wanted just the cleaning and restate that multiple times. After that they came back and wanting to do just a few x rays. Ok, I suppose I should have been more firm. It did look like they just wanted an extra $$. That was the first red flag. They suggested deep cleaning - sure, even tho that was questionable. The first appointment was uncomfortable and painful on many levels. Injections were the most painful ones I've ever gotten. Treatment was rushed - under 25mins. Water was spraying everywhere. Cleaning itself was quite painful despite numerous anesthetic injections. My neck was in pain afterwards. I mean just horrible experience. I told S, she's not doing any of that again. She started giving excuses - I'm not interested in empty excuses. I told her I'll reschedule with someone else for the left side - after that I'm done with this office. I unfortunately was scammed here. I went in for a routine cleaning and was told I had 8 cavities and needed to book two separate appts for the fillings (which I did). I have never had a cavity in my life but it had been a while since my last cleaning so I trusted them. My friends convinced me to get a second opinion so I booked a consultation at a different dental office. The doctor there reviewed the same exact Xrays and said I have ZERO cavities - nothing at all to even fill. It is terrifying to put trust in a doctor who does not have your best interest at heart. My child went in for two routine dental visits at this practice. After the second appointment, I was told there was a fractured tooth close to the nerve, and a treatment plan was recommended. I had a gut feeling to seek a second opinion--and I'm so glad I did. The second pediatric dentist strongly disagreed with the original recommendation. We were referred to a specialist, and the new plan is significantly more involved (and expensive), but it's what's truly needed to protect my child's dental health. I also learned that my child had multiple cavities that were not clearly visible in the original x-rays taken at the first office. The quality of those images wasn't sufficient, and we had to repeat them. I originally chose this office because they were in-network with our insurance. While that made things more convenient, I now wish I had done more research. It's upsetting to think about what might have happened had we moved forward with the initial plan. This experience was a tough lesson, but I'm sharing it so other parents know to trust their instincts and not hesitate to get a second opinion. Your child's health is worth it. read more

I would not recommend this place - do not get sucked in by the nice aesthetics. During my cleaning, I mentioned I kept getting food stuck in between my two molars and after X-rays they said I had decay (where I previously had a filling) that needed to be removed with a procedure that would take two days. They quoted me around $1600 before asking my insurance. My insurance company sent me with supporting documention stating it should cost around $900. I called the Soul Dental to schedule my appointment around 4:00pm, and they wanted me to come in at 9am the next day (red flag) as if it was an emergency. An hour later, the texted me that I will owe $1600 BEFORE the proceduce (another red flag). After several dicussions and emails back-and-forth, they said found the insurance documention online and would honor the $900. I questioned why didn't they search online in the first place which could have avoided lot of confusion and the bad experience. I thought the bad experience would end at the billing but it didn't... DURING my procedure, they abruptly asked me to sign an agreement document asking me if I sign off of the color of the Onlays without physical showing me the Onlays. When I explicity mentioned that I probably need to wait to sign the document until I see it, the dentist herself rolled her eyes! The icing on the cake is that it's been 5 days since the proceduce and I'm feeling a lot of discomfort. Admittingly, I do have a several older fillings but I've never in my lifetime felt like this after a major procedure. I have scheduled a follow up appointment with Soul Dental to assess the problem. Based off other reviews, I fear I will be charged excessively because of unecessary and unplanned follow ups. Happy to report back at a later time to confirm if Soul Dental could make this right or I had to pivot to my old, trusting dentist (which I had no problems with for 8 years) in NYC. read more

I was about to board a plane from Atlanta (flew in from Texas the day before) and headed to New York Fort a weekend of sight seeing and tourist stuff. I had a tooth that just gradually got worse over the course of 24 hours. I am talking throbbing pain that keeps you up at night. I was searching for a dentist bar the hotel in the wee hours of the morning before my flight. I had found this office through my dental insurance and saw they had good reviews. I flew into New Jersey...got to the hotel and then walked to the office (less than a mile away). They got me in and were able to take care of me on the same day. The office is very modern and smells fantastic. Everyone was nice and the doctors were fantastic. I saw the general dentist and the endodontist. If I lived here I would be a regular patient. I would absolutely recommend this office. read more

Pros- The practice is gorgeous, state of the art. Cons- I waited exactly one hour for my daughter's appointment. I was told 2:30pm was the last appointment we could get. I left work early and took my daughter out of school early. We waited for 1 full hour. Not one apology. If I had known, my daughter would not have missed her last 2 classes. I was bamboozled into paying way more money than I should have been. On my dental insurance plan, I was told they were In Network, when I called to make an appointment, I was told they were In Network, when they called my dental insurance carrier to get pre authorized and told how much they can charge, they told them the name of a Dentist with them that was In Network. At no point was I told my daughter would have an oral surgeon who was NOT In Network. When I got off the phone with my Insurance carrier to find out why I had to pay over $2K for 3 extractions and got to the bottom of this, I was floored. I was charged for so much! I was even charged $153 for a 2nd opinion consultation. I never needed that, I told them ahead of time what needed to be done. I already had a prescription from the Orthodontist and a prior consult with a Prosthodontist. Charging me $550 for tiss regen. My insurance says it should have been $150 a tooth . Maybe since they are on the UWS they think someone coming won't think twice about the exorbitant fees but I'm a receptionist on a fixed income. I feel like this was highway robbery. Why didn't Dr. Lau see my daughter? I had no idea they were doing a switch- a- roo. I was ready to start coming here with my family and telling everyone I knew. I'm so disappointed with the outrageous charges. I never should have had to pay what I did. read more

Went in for a regular check up and was told I have two cavities, which was strange, because I did not feel any pain. They insisted that I have to get fillings for both of my teeth and said that I should take advantage of my insurance before the year ends. so I got it done. Since I got the fillings, I have had so much pain that it is incredibly difficult to drink, cold water or anything else cold for that matter. I went from having zero pain to having excruciating pain all due to having a procedure I don't think I needed. I think this place is fine for getting your teeth cleaned. I made an appointment for a check-up with Dr. Alterman. I specifically stated that I wanted her (in other words, not an associate of Dr. Alterman's). When I arrived, I was given Dr. Alterman's associate. I wanted to get a second opinion because another dentist recommended that I get a crown and a filling. Dr. Alterman's associate told me I needed three crowns and one filling. As a result of this diagnosis, I got a third opinion from a dentist that said I did not need any dental work. read more

Went for a check up Dr. Andrew Inagaki for some tooth pain I was experiencing in my rear molar. He was detailed, patient and had amazing bedside manner. Answered all of my questions and helped explain that I may not need a root canal, after other ortho's advised me to get one. Ended up instead getting a new filing for my tooth since the old one was cracked, which was resulting in cold and hot food causing more pain than usual. I am back to eating ice cream with no pain (well it definitely started off painful) AND I did not get an unnecessary surgery that I would have to maintain for the rest of my life. Here's some tips if you're going: - clear expectations and ask questions. I was told to come in for consultation with specialist for $100 visit but $60 is out of pocket and the rest is covered by insurance. When I showed up they told me it's $100 and nothing is covered by insurance. All they did was telling me I need to spend another $500 to get 3D scan. This specialist spent literally 3 min with me, told me nothing and I was charged $100? They ended up charging me $60 for this visit because I fought for it. I would not go back. read more

I bring my kids and recommend this location to my husband and friends who are now patients here, they are great with kids too. Doctors Alexandra Yungelson is AMAZING I have a tremendous fear of needles and I didn't feel the anesthesia nor did I experience any pain, she was so nice understanding and caring, she explained everything she was doing thoroughly and made sure I felt 100% comfor table... if I was to bring my grandmother here I will feel very safe and I know she will be in good hands... I will keep Dr. Yungelson as my dentist until all my teeth fall out feom old age lol in other words I will NOT change her EVER! I will start by saying that the cleaning was below-average. The provider was nice, but it was just a bit of poking around and a "polish." hardly any plaque removal. it was not like other cleanings I've had, and did not feel thorough. What was thorough: my conversation upon arrival with the front desk, where I went out of my way to be extremely clear that I did not want nor did I consent to X-rays or any type of additional services besides a standard cleaning (my insurance only covers one set of X-rays per year, which I had earlier this year and offered to send the practice). The front desk staff tried to get me to consent to X-rays, but I was extremely clear and firm. I know how healthcare works and have no problem setting a boundary. The end. During my appointment the provider repeated this ask - I was equally as firm. Awhile later she asked me to open my mouth, and before I knew what was happening, they were taking camera images! When I questioned this, I was told it was "not x-rays, and just a standard part of the cleaning." I was still very uncomfortable - again, I'm not dumb, I know that some providers are on the take and out to scam patients and insurers, but it's not going to be from me. Then, weeks later, sure enough - they sent my insurance a bill for two sets of $225 worth of X-rays EACH. That's $450 of false charges my insurance won't cover. Nor will I - I made it very clear that I did not consent to any X-rays or any additional services. I get that they were just trying to be greedy and use tactics to convince me to cough up cash, but putting a camera IN MY MOUTH without informed consent and trying to pretend it wasn't an additional service is shady af, if not straight-up illegal. The 'bill' (let's call it a cash request) isn't a concern because it's not real and there are no grounds for it, but I feel obligated to make sure nobody in my orbit goes near here and experiences the same thing. It genuinely made me feel gross. And Alexandra Y, I know you're seeing this because you've responded (in one case, pretty inappropriately) to every other negative review: this is one you cannot justify, so I'd def recommend taking the opportunity to hear this genuinely, cut your losses, and just improve your ethical practices - at least to the point where it isn't SO obvious. Anyway, there are a ton of capable dentists in the city whose offices are not styled to look like a low-rent 2018 Instagram filter, and who do not try to extort patients against their consent for a cheap buck and hope they're too rich/busy/inattentive to complain. Definitely recommend finding one of those, as this is just a tacky mint-painted dump where you'll overpay for a less than thorough cleaning. Hope it was worth it! read more

I had been enjoying this office until I arrived for a periodontist consultation appointment--an appointment I'd had for over a month. They chose to wait until then to tell me first that I "may" need some kind of special 3D scan that would cost $500 out of pocket since insurance doesn't cover it, later telling me I for sure had to do that--before the periodontist had even seen me. That last bit essentially confirms that this is an office focused on making money by charging for services regardless of whether or not they're even needed. Again, this person had not looked at my mouth at all and yet the front office had decided I needed a $500 service that can't be billed to insurance. I deeply regret trusting this practice. Their surgeon has anger management issues. She pressured me about time when I was extremely anxious. The practice claims their staff has training in anxiety but she didn't have a clue how to help me, nor did she refer me to another clinic. She also snapped at me when I was moments off the laughing gas. I will never go back to this horrible place. Don't be fooled. Don't trust them. This review is for the West Side Location Service is OK but frustrated with claims and billing I have been seeing Dr Yungelson and Dr Wetmore for almost 2 years now. They are both pretty good with dental procedures so no complaints there However their billing and claims is a totally different story. With excessive and unnecessary charges detailed below 1) During routine exam, Dr Wetmore showed me x ray and mentioned i may have to re-do my root canal and referred me to Endodontist (Andrew). That guy charged me $100 consultation fee to show me the same x ray and tell me the same exact thing 2) i shrugged off the above charge and decided to proceed with the root canal. A few days later saw my claim details and found out that he had submitted claims for PPE and another procedure which is already covered under root canal 3) For core treatment, my copay was $33 for each teeth (total $66) but at the last minute the charge switched to $126. I was caught off guard and was also numb after the procedure. I did not pay attention at the time and later realized my mistake. They agreed to refund but nothing till date despite multiple follow ups. 4) i also wouldn't recommend buying any devices like electric toothbrush or custom mouth gaurds from this place as they are way overpriced. I would never feel inclined to review a dentist until now. I usually dread going to the dentist, super painful cleanings lots of bleeding, just overall not fun. Had a really good experience here. The staff are friendly and efficient. The hygienist who cleaned my teeth was careful and gentle but thorough. The dentist was also very nice, thorough, and talked through dental concerns with me. It was very clean & modern. Appreciated their transparency - they made sure I was clear on how much things would cost before having anything done & how much my insurance covered. This place is so awesome you forget you're at the dentist. It is a beautiful space and everyone is friendly and welcoming. Dr. Yungelson is hands down the best dentist I've ever been to. I have extremely sensitive teeth and gums, so a regular cleaning has always felt like torture, but in Dr. Yungelson's hands I didn't feel a single unpleasant sensation. She is extremely thorough, informative, and detail-oriented. I came away with the certainty that my teeth had gotten the gold treatment, and many tips and a better understanding of how to care for them, and a clean, white smile. This place just looks fancy, but they don't give your cleaning the appropriate amount of time. I made an appointment 2 weeks ago for general check up and cleaning. They had to cut the first one short because their machines were malfunctioning. I had to reschedule for my general cleaning and they suggested I do deep cleaning as I have deep pockets. When I came back for my general cleaning, it took about 20 mins total. My deep cleaning was broken up into 2 sittings - right side one day and left side the next - for $105 each. I went in for my right side and she took a total of 11 mins for this cleaning. I've gone to other dentists and average amount of time they've taken for cleaning is about 30-45 mins. They clearly don't take their work seriously and just charge an exorbitant amount for wishy-washy results. I definitely won't be going back. read more

I am so happy to have found this office! I hate having to change dentists but due to relocating I had no choice.
