So to be completely clear - I have been a patient here for well over 20+ Years and I loved them. I mean I go back to when their email address was MadDental@aol.com. They were always great and easy - and most importantly fair and honest. That said - since my main Dentist, Dr Howatt, retired the entire place has fallen apart. I find them to be rude and not at all accommodating. Without naming names, the dentist assigned to me is seldom in the office even when we had an appointment and when I asked to cancel because the dentist wasn't going to be in - they threatened me with a cancellation fee. Most recently and what I hope will be my last interaction with them - I got a bill from June (it's now February) for $500. After a long back and forth, it turns out that it was becuase the Dr was NOT in, they didn't cancel and put me with an out of network Dr so I had to pay the out of network fee. They did tell me at the time they would wave the fee but did not put it in the automated system and the bill showed up some seven months later. I spoke to a very nice assistant and got nowhere and it was until I spent a significant time on the phone refusing to pay before they admitted that it was an "automated thing". No one took responsibility and treated me like it was my fault. No idea what would have happened if I just paid the $500 invoice. I hate to say stay away but in NYC we have plenty of choices and should be treated with respect and transparency. So - stay away. read more

Back in the day, this place was excellent, and I recommended it to many friends -- but that's no longer the case. They've really gone downhill, from the billing department failing to provide receipts to aggressive marketing tactics pushing unnecessary procedures. Stay away! I had a tooth bonded by Dr. Harrison. It chipped within a month. I was promised that it would be redone at no charge. Instead, I was referred to an associate, who blamed my bite, and referred me to an outside dentist. Instead of refunding me for the work, they charged $150 to inform me they would not honor their promise. Thankfully, I did find a competent and honest dentist who repaired it properly. read more

I have gone to Dr. Levine and Madison Dental for 20 years or so. They have always been great in terms of care - very careful and thoughtful. No complaints there. So, 4-5 stars for the quality of care. Why only 2 stars? On my most recent visit, when I began checkout, they told me I owed over $300 for the cleaning, which in the past has always been covered by my insurance. When I raised that point, their office administrator said that they were no longer in-network with my carrier. I asked if that was a recent change, because everything had been covered at my prior appointment, just six months ago. The (very nice) gentleman scrunched up his eyebrows and said "no, it's not very recent at all." He also said that my insurance carrier was supposed to have sent out a notice that Madison Dental was no longer in network. But "don't worry," he told me, "we will submit to your insurance for out of network benefits" (that just gets applied against my out of pocket annual maximum, so it's no help, which I'm sure he knew). With no other choice, I paid the money. When I called my insurance carrier, they indicated that Madison Dental had left their network about a week and a half prior to my most recent visit (so actually, very recently) and had been told at the time that their provider contract obligated them to alert their patients that they were no longer taking the insurance. When I called Madison Dental back, the (again, very nice) office administrator, who I suppose didn't think I'd follow up with anyone, got flustered and yammered something unintelligible about how they submitted paperwork in April to leave the network, but my insurance carrier had made a mistake on their end, blah, blah . . . And he flatly denied being told that it was their responsibility to tell anyone that they no longer took the insurance. Why they should have to have been told that, I don't know. It's just common courtesy. A silver lining is that I resisted some fairly overt, repeated pressure during my visit to get unnecessary panoramic x-rays (my one quibble is that Madison Dental overuses radiation diagnostics - insisting on them more frequently than recommended by the ADA not because there is anything wrong, but just because time has passed). Had I not done so, I'm sure the overall bill would have been $1000 or more, which I'd have been much more pissed off about. So, anyway, they don't apparently think it's up to them to tell a patient that he is now paying out of pocket until after they provide service, which gives them at least one chance to get a full-freight charge for whatever that service is, and they pressure you to get more service than you need to amp up the bill even further. I don't think this is anything specific to them - a lot of health care providers are just getting frustrated with insurance and going off-network or opening "concierge" practices so they don't have to subsist on whatever insurance reimburses them for. But they've handled the transition pretty badly, and gaslit me while doing it, which doesn't feel good. I'll get a new dentist going forward, which is annoying, but that's how it goes, I guess. read more

The receptionist explained that this is a HIGH-VOLUME dentist office. What that meant for me was that the dentist wasn't there to do my exam after the cleaning. Then canceled the appointment that they gave me for her to do the exam and address a loose crown. They said she could squeeze me in at another time but only for the exam. However, she wouldn't have time to address the crown. That would have to be yet another appointment. Apparently, the dentist had surgeries that were more pressing so I was getting bumped and then bumped again. The price is the same. There's no discount for HIGH-VOLUME treatment. I am now looking for another dentist who's not in as much of a rush. read more

Fantastic quality of care and service available. The staff is extremely friendly and takes the time to address your concerns and discuss the process required for your dental work. I have been seeing another dentist for several years and had a fractured tooth to repair. I felt the need to have a second opinion and Madison Dental Group was not only able to provide a less invasive solution, they were able to schedule me in a quick and timely manner. The facilities are spacious and accommodating and easily accessible. There's a subway that is super close as well. The staff is friendly and Dr. Harrison was able to make the required fix and I am happy to say I have had no complications or complaints with the treatment I have received. I used to see Dr. Press many years, and he and his team were wonderful. Lori is my dental hygienist and she is great. Daryl, also part of old team, is also superb. I now see Dr. Harrison, who I am happy with, a great dentist and lovely person. But for the past few visits, I have had issues with the office coordinator, Lonnie, with appts. I had an appt scheduled this week but I was told they did not have a record of it. No apology given and I am very organized, so it was not my error. Had this been the only time, I would not have said anything. Last time I was not informed an appt was made for me. Lonnie said she had called me already, and gave me the appt. She had not. Again no apology. And at my last appt I wasn't told that my nightguard was not ready, so I had to make an additional appt, when I would have preferred to take care of it in one appt. I understand mistakes happen, but my time is valuable and I make plans around my appts. Now I have to rearrange my appts due to her error. It would have been nice to at least get an apology. I am pretty organized and don't write down appts in my calendar, unless I have them. Lonnie gives the impression of being efficient, but is not, and she comes accross a bit rude. Initially I was called and texted for an appt multiple times and again on day of appt, where I was told not to be late. I felt like I was being harrassed. I did not experience this before in my many years as a former pt of Dr. Press. read more

I was a patient here for 15 years, but: 1. One LGBTQ dentist (same gender as me, but I'm straight) would rub their hand up and down my arm, call me "hey, good looking", touch me (arms, back, chest, etc.) throughout my visit, tell me that unlike other members of my profession (?!), I was "so nice", etc. Totally out of line, and it would be totally out of line for anyone to act like that, straight or LGBTQ. 2. After I asked to be switched to another dentist and had another appointment, the day after my appointment, the billing department called me repeatedly on multiple phone numbers (home and office), demanding immediate payment of some amounts for which a bill was simultaneously being sent by US mail, all for a routine visit. The billing department also emailed a confusing pile of paperwork to me, apparently relating to the bill. In 15 years, that had never happened before. The billing department confirmed that I never had been late on any payment, and the office told me that I was never at all a problematic patient in any respect. (Throughout my 15 years of visits, the office staff repeatedly told me that I was nice and easy to deal with.) So I switched to another dental practice and am glad I did. One benefit: the other dental practice was able to replace a crown in one visit since it had new technology (and had to redo some of the dental work that Madison Dental had done). At Madison Dental, replacing a crown took two visits. So at Madison Dental, you can get sexually harassed by a same-gender dentist and deal with an abrasive, aggressive office staff after you ask to be switched to a non-harassing dentist. And the office lacks current technology (and is generally pretty run down, crying out for a paint job). The harassing dentist still works there, based on the website. read more

My dentist did the job but I stopped visiting this practice because they came out of network without letting me know. I've visited this dental group for 10 years so it was surprising that I got an out of pocket bill for my cleaning. In addition to that, I was told that I had 8 cavities which I had to fill in. Filling was split into two sessions, and I completed one of them. Few weeks later, I got a surprise bill for my cleaning (I've never had to pay out of pocket for cleaning in 10 years), and as soon as I learned this, I cancelled my remaining appointment. However, they charged me over $2,000 for filling (on top of my out of pocket cleaning fee), and they will not adjust my bill. Seems like others are having similar experiences, and if you had one, look into No Surprises Act and Public Health Law. read more

I was very surprised to receive a bill for my recent visit. I was told they are now out of network and that I was notified in 2023 via email. A comprehensive search confirmed no such email notice was received. I did receive their retirement announcement so clearly emails were being received. So while I was happy with the service, I find this lack of communication coupled with a large bill to be unacceptable for any business. Very disappointing after years as a customer. read more

Have been a patient for over 20 years. The practice has been taken over by a new group. In Spring 2023 - I went to see them. I received the care that I needed and expected, and those bills were paid. But NOT ADVISED is that the dentists are **NO LONGER IN-NETWORK. I have Aetna** which is my insurance plan. I found out because I have a large outstanding balance, (over $500). At first I was told it was Aetna's fault. TODAY, I learned that NONE of the dentists are in network so I am NOT covered 80%. I will have to work out payment. Spend your money and time at a different dental office. I'm one person who loves going to the dentist, but each time I go to this place I'm disappointed. My last appointment left my teeth in worse condition than I started with. I scheduled an appointment to have the screw up adjusted and get a 3rd fill in. However, when I arrived the dentist was not prepared to do a fill in and also told me that he couldn't fix his mistake. What a waste of time and money. read more

Dr. Harrison is a very sweet person but she spends very little time with patients. I have permanent nerve damage because she rushed filling a cavity. And she didn't even polish the filling properly - it is jagged and rough. Every other Dentist I've had has taken the time to smooth fillings properly. Let's just say, best case scenario, that the nerve damage could not be avoided with the cavity - the shoddy polishing that was left ragged proves her work is shoddy and rushed. Even her yearly "exams" were rushed. I believe she missed the cavity that she wound up having to treat much later. Her assistant is rude when Dr. Harrison isn't in the room and then all of the sudden becomes super sweet when the Dr. is around. The front desk people are incompetent except for Shai who is a sweetheart and will move on to a better place. Dr. Harrison's scheduling assistant at the front desk -Peggy- is a passive-aggressive nightmare of a human being who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near patients. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Levine for around 15 years and he and his staff are great. I recently had a night of teeth/jaw pain and I called the next morning - and they fit me in that same morning to see Dr. Levine. Similarly, ~10 years ago, the morning before an international flight, I had a tooth issue and Dr. Levine fit me in that morning and took care of the issue so I could make the trip. The first time I went in for a consultation, recently I went in for a cleaning and a filling, and I want to thank the staff here and Dr. Harrison for making me feel at ease, being professional, having good bed side manner, friendly and caring. Before I dreaded dental appointments and cringed every time someone mentioned the word dentist. Then, I met Madison Dental Group, and more specifically my awesome dentist. She is incredibly kind, upbeat, and professional. She explains what she is doing, makes sure you are comfortable, and has Saturday hours. What more can you ask for? The office is clean, bright and not claustrophobic with stellar city views-yes! The staff is friendly and consistent. I hadn't been in 5 years and was terrified to go in, but half my office goes to Dr. Harrison & sing her praises so I decided to go in. He was kind and caring and never made me feel I was being rushed. After so many years and so many dentists...I finally found the ONE. Dr Reskasis and his staff are the best. On my first visit I was made to feel very comfortable and Dr Reskasis gave me a thorough examination. Oh did I mention he is very gentle too. Because I have so much previous dental work and had oral cancer, Dr R said he wanted to think about the best course of treatment till next visit. On next visit I had a thorough cleaning (Emily was great) and then Dr G called the periodontitis in to examine me and together decide on best course of action. An absolute horror is what comes to my mind at hearing about this dentist. I've been going to her for several years and as long as my needs were basic everything was Okay -- I arrived on time, opened my mouth, paid my bill, they did cleaning and that was it. However, when I needed more thorough care -- Dr. Howatt failed at every level. I think the last time she heard of words "compassion" or "quality" was when she wrote a dental school application essay 20 years ago. She is rough, arrogant and extremely self-absorbed. Almost every element of the experience with her was hugely disappointing. The crown she fixed broke in half in two months. But worse than walking around with a broken front tooth was the treatment I received from her -- she has a major attitude. I had to remind her that I was a patient, a paying client and I disliked the treatment I received. Her reply to this was to direct me to follow her, so her secretary could make a new appointment for me. Eventually she did the crown over, without properly explaining to me how the new one would look. Every time I'd ask her a question, she'd give me a raised eyebrow look. Eventually, the new crown came out looking very different -- a nice shade of blue and shorter than the rest of my teeth. I am very unhappy with the result: $1,400, plenty of aggravation and hours of discomfort later, I'm left with a discolored shorter front tooth. "The advanced dentistry you expect" and "Care and attention you deserve" on her card seem like a bitter joke. But I'd rather have no tooth than see this person ever again. Just..... don't. I asked her to redo it -- which she refused. So I ended up going to a sane, professional, skilled dentist who fixed a decent crown - she listened. Being treated with a basic human decency made me wonder why I tolerated this abusive treatment with Howatt for over four years.... In any case -- I'm happy with the result now, but I ended up paying double the amount. My advice is stay as far away from Dr. Howatt as you can. She has some major unresolved psychological issues -- the kind you should not be paying for and she sucks as a dentist. read more

I've been going to this place for about a year now but I am done. Their hygenists are total NOOBS who poke at your teeth and hurt you while they fumble to clean them. One of those idiots told me that I should floss my teeth until my gums bleed to make sure I'm thoroughly flossing. Are you high? Additionally the dentist I always go to screwed my teeth and despite admitting that he did so, everyone else in the office tries to get around the fact that its blatant medical malpractice spewing b/s into my face telling me that they will do THIS or THAT to try to make things " better" rather then giving me concrete answers. Clearly they want to make money from me but they know that they can't because they're the ones who messed up in the first place. I am so sick of going back there over & over and being screwed over & given more b/s that resolves nothing. Stay away. read more

I changed to Dr. Reskakis, and I simply cannot imagine any dentist or dental office being better than this. Dr. Reskakis is an extremely skillful practitioner. Procedures that were painful with other providers are painless with him. He also one of the nicest people I ever encounter. The entire office is cheerful and efficient. All staff are never anything than extremely professional, competent and a joy to work with. And appointments typically are kept on time, something of a rarity with any health provider. My wife and I have been going to Dr. Jonathan Mender at Madison Dental for over 5 years now and we could not be more thrilled. He has perfect bedside manner, is very easy to speak with and knows his stuff. Last year, we moved further to Long Island and my wife saw a local dentist, a well reviewed dentist who has been around. The dentist did some work, which caused a lot of pain in her teeth. She went back to Dr. Mender, who not only explained to her what was wrong but then proceeded to actually fix it. I also have done more work then I care to admit with Dr. Mender and it has always been efficient, painless and without flaw. The appointments are also very timely - I have never needed to wait more than 20 minutes over my appointment time. Often I am the one late. I also see Madison Dental for bi-annual cleanings. Just switched to MD from a downtown practice. I had the best cleaning ever by one of the hygienists (she spent a lot of time removing stains from my lower teeth) and the young dentist I saw was so lovely and helpful. I have some issues with my gums and they showed extra TLC with my problem area. I totally recommend this place!!!! read more

I have been coming here for about a year and a half now. Was recommended by a co-worker who loves this place and has been going for over 5 (I think?) years. Convenient location for me was the primary selling point. My last dentist was nice (I liked his bedside manner) but he didn't know what my problem was (which tooth needed a root canal) and gave me some medicine to wash out at night. Due to him, $5k of orthodontia was negated because he couldn't/wouldn't do the panoramic xray or whatever it is so we could have a definitive answer. (The bitewings were ambiguous.) But the worst dental experience I've ever had was at NYU dental so... you can see my review of that for more info. Anyhow, I arrive at Madison Dental. Have Dr. Reskakis, a friendly/nice guy. Very good salesman, but what medical practicioner isn't a small businessman nowadays? In any case, they figured out my problem, fixed it, and I haven't had any problems since. The hygienists are also good, thorough and careful. I haven't had any problem with any of the administrative staff. Had a billing issue (my insurance paid less than dentist thought they would) so I had to make up the difference but they walked me through the ledger so it was fine. read more

I've gone here a few times for cleanings and more serious dental work, seeing Dr. Mender. I have always felt treated very well there, with minimal wait times and solid service. Dr. Mender is not a gabber but I enjoy his humor and professionalism. So far I have been happy with the work he's done, included replacing a crown that shattered. He's A material in my book. I've been less thrilled with the two cleanings I had - wouldn't say they have a soft touch. Now perhaps that is in part due to my less that steller upkeep between cleanings, but I've definitely had cleanings that were smoother (read: less painful). While friendly, I was less comfortable with them poking around my mouth. read more

Dr. Howatt has been my dentist since she first started practicing! I have been extremely satisfied with her expertise. Over the years, I have had many dental situations arise. Dr. Howatt has always presented multiple alternatives, when appropriate, to a dental situation. The alternatives presented were always a vairety including more and less expensive procedures. When a recommendation to a dental specilist has been suggested, I have always found it to be appropriate in solving my particular dental problem. The staff in the dental office are fantastic,always willing to help and very personable. I recommend them withou reservation! read more
