From the first bite, it was clear this wasn't just cooked food, it was made with intention. Hot, fresh, flavorful, and straight from the soul. Let's just say Tabitha Brown wasn't lying--everything is good. No exaggeration. This is comfort food done right. No shortcuts, no bland plates, just real flavor and care in every bite. Very delicious and absolutely worth the hype. Tips: Parking can be limited and the wait can be long, so come prepared. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and definitely use the restroom before you arrive. Trust me--you'll want to focus on the food once you get it.

The Nana's Soul plate used to come with more than two ribs, then it was reduced to two, and now it's down to just one unless you pay extra for another. The plate also used to include all three sides--mac and cheese, collard greens, and beans--along with cornbread. Now you're limited to choosing only two sides, and the cornbread is gone. It's disappointing to see how much the restaurant has declined since the beloved Nana passed away. I hate to say it, but I won't be returning.

I ordered the catfish fillet meal. It came with 4 generous size fillets and with 2 sides to pick from. I chose, greens with smoked turkey and spaghetti. I tell you the catfish was on fire. Crispy cornmeal crunch on the outside and cooked firm but not dry. Just the way I like it. It was served right out of the fryer. My husband had fried pork chops. 2 big chops. Cooked to perfection. He had mashed potatoes/gravy and potato salad. He was happy, as his meal was seasoned well. We were there mid afternoon and would not expect a lot of folks at that time. The restaurant itself is super clean. Music in the background R&B via pandora. I will definitely be back to try some other meals and perhaps order some desserts.

That crunch? Absolutely elite. The kind that you hear before you even taste it. I also tried the fried seafood, and I have to shout out how impeccably clean the restaurant is -- no lingering seafood smell at all, which says a lot about their standards. Everything tasted fresh and made-to-order. I went during lunch and scored a great deal, which made it even better. Service was impressively fast considering everything is prepared fresh. If you're craving bold seasoning, perfect crunch, and comfort-food energy done right, this place delivers.

Tina brought all the vibes, she was so welcoming with a huge smile. I immediately liked the place. Each person in our group ordered something different. I shared the shrimp and swai fish meal with my daughter because the portions are huge. The batter was crispy, reminding me of how my southern grandma used to fry hers. I have no clue how they get it so crispy without any grease! It was so tender, and the flavors were definitely there. We also enjoyed the fries and the coleslaw and both were delicious! I really like the seasonings they use. The best part was that after finishing, we didn't feel that "heaviness" you sometimes get from fried food, because you know we were talking about that too. We also really enjoyed the banana pudding! Also the music was on point, we were singing the whole time we ate. Food- Was a Solid 4.5 Service - on a scale of 1-5 it was a 10!! lol Even though it's a 35-minute drive for us, we will definitely be back. Thank you for the kindness and the delicious food!

This is my first and only experience with Kings. I ordered food at an event for a friend from…read moreKings based on what she saw others had ordered because it looks great. My friend and I waited and waited for the food. I opened the order when I got it before leaving the window and the lady working the window gave me someone else's food. Thankfully, and the other customer recognized their order and got their food just fine. The lady working the window apologized, gave me a water, and I waited longer. She apologized again and said that they'd bring the food to me. They didn't bring the food and instead gave part of my order to a different friend to bring to me. I went back and asked for the rest of the order. The lady working the window said that she gave me my order. I said no, we only got part of it. She then became unbelievably inappropriate saying that I'm lying, stealing from a Black man business owner, not well, and all kinds of things that were uncalled for because they were paid nearly $40 for the order plus a 20% tip! I told my friend what happened and to do a charge back. I went back again with the partial order to try and explain that this was all that was received. Instead, the woman working the window immediately started berating me, threatening to embarrass me, and other things that were incredibly unhelpful to reconcile the situation. Mind you, I am not the type to act a fool and was at the event representing an organization so at no time did I raise my voice or return the treatment I received from this business. She asked what I wanted her to do and I told her that a refund because I know how chargebacks are bad for small businesses. She said okay and asked for the last 4 digits of the card, so I had to get them from my friend. I went back to my friend to get the numbers, got back in line to give them to her, and I gave them to her. She asked why I kept getting back in line...well, how else was I supposedto get help because that line was the only line. Instead of refunding my friend, the lady shut the window, talked to the owner, and reopened the window and started taking more orders. I got back in line again to find out if the refund had been done and she said that they were not going to refund and there was nothing else that they could do. I told my friend this and she's going to move forward hopefully with the chargeback. Mind you if the order and had been fulfilled correctly, then I wouldn't have had to go back multiple times asking for the order nor would I be writing this negative review. Our other friends who actually got their orders said the food was good, so there's that I suppose. This type of exchange is why so many businesses fail. Simple things like decent service and order management. I was not the only person waiting for an extended period. I was not the only person whose order was messed up. I encourage this business to invest in an digital order taking CMS and not writing things in dark pen on the boxes themselves. If digital order taking isn't possible for now, and that's OK if it is, then invest in guest check server notepads. They are less than $10 on Amazon. The orders can be written on them with customers' names and phone numbers, the bottom can be torn off for customers to have while they are waiting for food, and, in order for a customer to receive their order, they must surrender the torn off portion. Doing something either electronically or handwritten like explained would provide a system for checks and balance instead of relying on someone's memory. Also, consider coaching, retraining, and/or replacing the woman that was working the window today as her behavior is bad for business. She was not able to or chose not to maintain composure, decorum, and handle the pressure of all of the customer traffic. Though I did not get loud, she did get loud with me and other customers saw this every time she did this. That affects business. Her choices and behavior today cost this business vending opportunities with me, my employer, the organization I was representing at today's event, and probably with other customers who saw her disrespect, treatment, and unkindness towards me.

Worth Every Napkin…read more I've had fried chicken all over the country, and Gus's World Famous Chicken absolutely deserves the hype. The first bite told me everything I needed to know. The chicken had an incredibly crispy, well-seasoned crust with just the right amount of heat--not overpowering, but enough to keep you reaching for another piece. Underneath that perfectly fried exterior was some of the juiciest chicken I've had in a long time. Every piece was cooked flawlessly. The sides held their own, too. The mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and comforting with a nice sprinkle of seasoning on top. The potato salad tasted homemade, the baked beans were sweet and smoky, and the collard greens had that slow-cooked flavor that reminds you of Sunday dinner. Nothing felt like an afterthought. And let's talk about those fried pickles... wow. Thick-cut pickle spears with a crispy, golden coating that stayed crunchy until the last bite. Paired with the house ranch, they disappeared from the basket faster than anything else on the table. The atmosphere was casual, lively, and exactly what you'd hope for in a place known for legendary fried chicken. Service was friendly, the food came out hot, and every plate looked like it was made with care. If you're in the mood for authentic Southern comfort food, Gus's is an easy recommendation. Come hungry because the portions are generous, and don't leave without ordering the fried pickles. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm craving fried chicken done the right way.
