Perfectly crispy. The sweet and spicy sauce was delicious and perfectly balanced out by the bread in the po boy. The fries I asked for extra crispy and they were PERFECT. First time here. Greeted by Ms Jackie aka momma soulfood. She made you feel right at home with her warm friendly persona. If you want good ole southern cooking, this is the place. I ordered the catfish fillet meal. It came with 4 generous size fillets and with 2 sides to pick from. I chose, greens with smoked turkey and spaghetti. I tell you the catfish was on fire. Crispy cornmeal crunch on the outside and cooked firm but not dry. Just the way I like it. It was served right out of the fryer. My husband had fried pork chops. 2 big chops. Cooked to perfection. He had mashed potatoes/gravy and potato salad. He was happy, as his meal was seasoned well. We were there mid afternoon and would not expect a lot of folks at that time. The restaurant itself is super clean. Music in the background R&B via pandora. I will definitely be back to try some other meals and perhaps order some desserts. read more

My husband loves soul food so he has been excited to try this spot. We ordered for pickup and enjoyed their catfish nuggets and fried chicken. My husband said the front pick up area was nice and the service was quick and friendly. I wasn't a huge fan of the Mac and cheese but I think Mac and cheese preference is super personal, I think I was hoping for more of a baked Mac and cheese. We saw the new sign while driving by and thought we would give it a try. Boy I'm glad we did. The building is nothing extravagant but it is neat and clean both inside and out. The menu is a nice break from what is usually available at all the "new" restaurants that pop up around town. Soul food is one of my favorite types of food and fish, especially catfish, is up there as well. Both are hard to do right. Well let me tell you the fried catfish is the best I've had outside of my own kitchen. It may even be better than my own secret recipe, but I'll never admit that in public. The fish was crispy on the outside and nice and firm on the inside. They must know the magic temperature for the oil and that's what makes all the difference. The wings were both large and done up right as well. The signature sauce is a must have. You won't be disappointed if you get it. It has a little spice and sweetness and a lot of flavor. We got to meet momma while we were there and I told her she really knows how to whip up some groceries. I hope this place is here to stay for good. I know I will be back many more times. They have a lot more dishes I would like to try. read more

The service was top notch from the minute we walked in until we hit the parking lot. The location has a St. Louis Sports Bar Vibe with an amazing selection of tunes. I love that they use separate fryers when they prepare your food so the flavors stay clean and the quality shows. My husband and I had one of the worst dining experiences at Momma's Soul Fish and Chicken. From the start, we couldn't even get a simple drink -- they were out of iced tea, pineapple juice, and orange juice. The waitress told us that "Sunday is their run-out day" because they purposely let supplies run low since they're closed on Mondays. What kind of restaurant plans to run out of food and beverages for its customers? That explanation alone was unacceptable, but the experience got even worse. They said they were short-handed, and when we expressed our disappointment, the owner -- Momma herself -- came out of the kitchen and told us to go home and cook our own food! Her attitude was combative, unprofessional, and completely dismissive of basic customer service. It's clear this establishment doesn't value its patrons or take accountability for being unprepared. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Poor planning, lack of professionalism, and disrespect toward customers made this the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. read more

My husband and his friend had a fantastic meal at Momma's Soul Fish and Chicken Lounge. He had the Chicken legs and waffle, and his friend has the catfish. The catfish was very good and the chicken was excellent, 2 large chicken legs and a yummy waffle. He was full so he brought me the 2nd chicken leg and I had it for dinner. This was the best fried chicken I ever had. Even reheated. Instead of a batter coating, it was some kind of perfectly seasoned breading. It was crispy, moist, not too salty and delicious. I can't wait for us to go back. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Momma came out to say hello. It was a delightful experience. Can't wait to try the other items on her menu. I've been eating at mama's soul food for over a year and their food is outstanding. I had lunch today at their new location Main Street just past Stapley. One of the best things they serve their homemade macaroni and cheese. I told the waitress I really couldn't eat fried food however all the fish is fried so I ordered the catfish nugget nuggets. It said pick two on the menu so I said for my sides I'll have macaroni and cheese and potato salad and she took my order. I've never had the macaroni heated up in a plastic container, but it was. It wasn't in a ceramic dish so that made me leery just to begin with the toxins. The meal delivered and the waitress said oh this comes with Frys. The macaroni and cheese was not the same. It was not good. I have never had bad macaroni and cheese there before. The potato salad was pretty good. The fish was great. When I got the bill, it was $10 higher than I expected. Come to find out she charged me separately for both sides. So I said to her I thought it came with two sides. All she said was I'm sorry. I wish I knew. Well, first of all when you place an order you say do you want those instead of the Fries since I told her, I shouldn't eat fried food . That was never asked. She should've said do you want the mac & cheese instead of the fries? The potato salad will be extra. I will give them one more shot since they are family owned and I'd love to support family owned businesses and they just moved. I don't know how long they've been there, but I have to say this was less than par and I left half the food. read more
