I loved this place! We decided to visit on Saturday night around 6:30pm. We did not have reservations and was able to get seated right away in a booth. I absolutely loved the decor around the restaurant! It was so cute, colorful and aesthetically pleasing. Due to the LED neon signs on the wall, they were courteous to even have tabletop ring lights nearby for your convenience. Our primary reason for our visit was to enjoy cocktails and to listen to the band. The band started at 7pm and they were so awesome!!! Our drinks were on point and the bartender did an excellent job!! We nibbled on a few appetizers which came out probably 5 minutes after we placed the order. If I could give zero stars I would. I made a reservation for 8:30 in their website, I Arrived around 9:45pm. The place was empty despite stating on their website that they close at 12pm. The door was opened I walked in and a gentleman saw me but just walked off. A young lady came from outside and I asked her if they were closed and she said, let me go check because, "we have been slow". She came back and she seated us. The young lady took our order. Then the manager went over to speak to my friend notifying her that they have different locations and that they were supposed to be closed which, I didn't get the point because, we had already ordered. Not one time at any point did anyone say, they were closing or if we want to order to go. Everyone was walking around with slippers on. Why wait until we sit down and ordered to tell us that you were supposed to be closed; that's very unprofessional and ghetto. If you're looking for a restaurant that feels like a club that has wild lighting and decorations and also live music, this is the place to go. At first entrance into the restaurant, the vibe felt so chaotic. Not at all in a bad way, I just felt like I should be meeting my friends on a dance floor instead of for dinner. With all of that being said the food was so good! I got the chicken tender basket with the garlic Parmesan sauce and my partner got the grilled chicken with Mac and cheese and collard greens. Soul was lackluster and I am sad to say so. We enjoyed the DJ and her music selection as well as our cocktails and that's basically it. We had a wonderful server named Ryan and she was very accommodating and welcoming. Food 2/5 My lobster dinner with two sides was uneventful. The lobster tail was nice, but the sides were not. The cabbage was saturated in oil. The mac was gritty and nasty. My server was kind enough to switch my mac for waffle fries (which were good). One friend ordered the catfish nuggets and she marked that they were overcooked and the batter looked as if the fish was cooked in old grease. My other friend had a wing dinner and said her meal was ok ( she was hungry). My margarita was delicious (frozen lime). I would honestly only return for a cocktail and to hear some R&B music. Service 2/5 Our server Ryan was great (5/5). The initial greeting and seating was not smooth, we were greeted and then the woman left to begin making drinks at the bar, never to return. Someone else came after her departure finally and seated us. The restaurant can use more servers or employees and training to make operations run more smoothly. I say this because the drinks took forever and there was only the one woman making drinks and our wait was longer than to be expected. What I do not care for is the "entertainment fee" that no one discloses on the bill that is for the DJ apparently and it is 18%! Not a fan of restaurants with these tacked on fees of convenience. Pay your entertainment for DJ-ing and don't tack this cost onto your customers. Ambiance 2/5 Now this depends on your taste and is subjective. The vibe of Soul gave gimmicky and busy. Came for a friend's birthday brunch and had a great time! The live entertainment is cool, but started halfway through our reservation (we got there around 11:10AM). If you're hoping to hear music the whole time, I would recommend coming around 12pm or later. The service was great and super nice, no complaints there. The food was pretty decent. I got the caramel pecan waffles and they were fine. I had no idea they would have strawberries on top, which aren't my favorite, but it wasn't bad. My friend got the chicken and waffles and the portion size was amazing for the price. Another friend got the big breakfast plate and the fruit does seem super fresh here. Fun and tasty lunch! I visited Soul on the Monday of Hot Chicken Week because they were participating. I hadn't been there previously. We were greeted by a smiling Server who sat us in a spacious booth. The restaurant is large, clean, and decorated in a playful manner. It all helped make our visit very enjoyable. The $7 Hot Chicken Week special included 2 Hot Chicken Tenders with fries and pickles. The tenders were large, juicy, well cooked, and flavorful. The spice level was low. The tenders were accompanied by a large portion of warm French fries. The meal was the perfect size for lunch and was a deal for $7. I noticed their new $10 lunch menu has 10 items on it, including a Burger with fries as well as Fried Catfish with Shrimp and fries, and also a fish sandwich with fries. The vibe at Soul is fun and this would be a nice place to bring a large group. The food is actually really good and the staff are very pleasant. I would definitely recommend Soul. read more

My mom was visiting from Florida and I was excited to bring her here but I was very disappointed as you can tell from the pictures. The past few times I've been here my food was undercooked. Avoid this dirty place at all cost. We arrived at 11:05am, the waitress was less than friendly and looked annoyed about whatever was happening behind the scenes. Upon ordering we were told that half the sides we came in for were unavailable. We decided to make the best of it and order anyway. While waiting we heard several employees complaining loudly about working conditions and this that and the other. I got up to use the restroom and it was one of the dirtiest I've ever seen. The restaurant had only been open for 15 mins. That means it was never cleaned the night before....if they didn't bother to clean the bathrooms who knows if they clean their kitchen. I sat there trying to be polite for a total of 50 mins after opening to which we never received our food. We only ordered fried items so nothing should have been taking that long. During our wait an employee walked out from the back eating some food while every paying guest in the restaurant had no food at their table and was told things were behind this morning but the fryers are warming up. I get it. Everyone needs to eat but maybe eat out of view of the customers that have been waiting over 30 mins with no food coming in sight. So rude. I finally had enough and we walked out without eating a thing. Which in hindsight is a blessing considering how dirty the place was. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. read more

Planning for our first trip to Nashville, this place was a must try on our food list. WOW, WERE WE HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!! To be transparent and fair, the staff we interacted with was nice, though it took a little over 10 minutes to be acknowledged once we were seated by the hostess. The ambiance of the place is pretty dope and definitely has a date night/club vibe. There is VIP seating, outside seating and a dj playing music inside through your meal during the afternoon. From our understanding, after chatting with staff, there is live music on Saturdays and Sundays 7p-9m. These were all great things that brought us in, but the excitement was deflated tremendously when the food was brought out along with a hidden entertainment fee (seen in the picture). We had high hopes for our meals as they were both featured on the "chef's special" portion of the menu. The presentation of our main dishes was something we were able to look passed as I was able to wipe the juice from around the brim of the plate and the chicken was smoked, therefore it had a charred appearance. However, both the oxtail and the cabbages were drastically over salted and my mac & cheese had a rather burnt taste to it. My wife's smoked chicken was super dry and multiple dressings were brought out to provide flavor. The rice and pinto beans were a good pairing, though the rice was overcooked (mushy). After trying to give the food a chance, we concluded that the food was so unsatisfactory that we asked for the bill leaving more than half of our portions at the restaurant without requesting a to go box and went to another restaurant. Upon arrival of the bill, it was found that there was an 18% entertainment fee attached to the bill. Something that is not disclosed on their website, nor did we see upon entry to the establishment. We assume this was because of the Dj's presence but would have liked to be informed before being seated. So, just a heads up, as it will spike your bill up, not including a tip if you choose to provide one. Unfortunately we didn't stay long enough to see if the live music was any good. Overall, we left disappointed. 2 star experience taking into account the ambiance and the hostess and our server. read more

came to the location on Charlotte Pike during lunch. The server was amazing, however, the experience was awful. We ordered 2 IMPOSSIBLE (meatless) burgers. After waiting almost 30 minutes for our food, we were served beef burgers. Luckily, we cut the burgers before eating them. The server took them back and after waiting almost 25 additional minutes for the correct order, we informed the server that we no longer wanted it. We were still charged $13 for 2 side orders of fries and a sweet tea (that we barely ate because we wanted to eat them with our burgers). We spoke to the manager (a young white woman behind the bar) and all she said was she understood. In my opinion, we shouldn't have had to pay anything. This was a horrible experience that could have ended in us being extremely sick and the management team lacked remorse as well as proper customer service read more

Well first visit here and all that I can say is interesting.... Hmmmm the jury is still out! Took a minute to get seated but for lunch time they got a pretty good crowd. My server is "Naii ". She seems to be still in training but she's very nice and personable. I met the Manager, "Nichole". Very nice and personable as well. She is running a tight ship. In case you didn't know that is what makes restaurant business successful. The dining room is designed quite nicely. The food is good and it was very fresh and served hot. Did I mention that they also have a DJ and live entertainment! The food is reasonably priced and the brunch specials on the weekend is unlimited Bloody Mary's and mimosas are an excellent price. This was, without question, the worst dining experience I have ever endured. I had a reservation for 4:45 PM on September 1, 2024. Upon arrival, my family and I were greeted--if you can call it that--by someone who appeared to be the owner or manager. She was visibly annoyed and asked if we had a reservation, as if having paying customers was an inconvenience for her. I confirmed our reservation, and she looked at her watch without bothering to ask what time it was for. Instead of seating us promptly, she told us to sit down and said she'd get to us when she could. After waiting, we were not offered water, nor did anyone acknowledge our presence or ask if we needed assistance. It became clear that we were being ignored. Ultimately, we had no choice but to leave. The service was absolutely abysmal, and it's unacceptable for any establishment to treat its customers this way. As a Black patron who makes an effort to support Black-owned businesses, I am deeply disappointed. This experience is a prime example of why people hesitate to do so when they are met with such subpar service. There is no excuse for this behavior, and I strongly urge others not to waste their time here. If I could give less than one star, I would. read more

My sister and I ate dinner here the other day. The service and vibe was good. Not sure who pissed off the team cooking the food though........man! We started off with fried shrimp covered in sweet chili sauce. The fried shrimp was overcooked (very chewy) and salty. For our entrees, my sister ordered fried catfish w/ mac-n-cheese and sweet potatoes. I ordered salmon with pinto beans and broccoli. My salmon and broccoli was extremely salty. Our server did apologize and even asked if I wanted something else. I kept my pinto beans and asked for fried catfish with mac-n-cheese. I asked if they had cornbread so I could eat it with the pinto beans...........guess what, no cornbread! My replacement food (fried catfish) was hot but was also salty. I asked for ketsup and just finished the meal. We enjoyed the music, atmosphere, and customer service but not too sure if I would eat a meal there again. I got the surf and turf. Steak and shrimp with pinto beans and cabbage. I really wanted the oxtail, but they didn't have it. First thing that came out was the Pepsi zero. It was very flat. The police has an interesting vibe with the music was really loud. I was by myself and had noise canceling EarPods, but I could still hear the music. It actually looked pretty good when it came out. The best things on the plate with the shrimp. They were great. The beans and the cabbage had basically no salt. I didn't expect them to be that bland by looking at them. It didn't seem like anyway. The steak, even though it was tender and actually didn't taste bad was extremely thin. I ordered it medium, which a steak being that thin would be hard to do granted. After tip, this was $80! I'll leave a picture below of the steak. I probably won't be back. I will say the service was great. That's the only reason this wasn't a two instead of a three. Especially the hostess. Asked for shots and received liquor with ice in a whiskey glass. Told the wait we were ready to place our order and he replied that he wasn't ready. Oh okay. It's now been one hour. The waiter said that it was only two of them because they are not usually busy on Tuesdays. We got appetizers that were less than mediocre with a high price tag. We came to Soul with a larger group, so that's my first disclaimer, before I start sharing my experience. We had a reservation and were seated immediately/on time. However, it took us 30 minutes to have menus in front of us and another 15 receive cups with ice in them and a few larger vessels full of water for the table. Note: One of the cups had a lipstick imprint still on it and several others were "muddy" like they weren't cleaned completely (Photo attached) Maybe 10 minutes later someone started taking our orders. There were other tables full as well, and the woman who seated us said to have patience because they just opened (I'm assuming she means for the day). It seemed like they were understaffed and disjointed... unsure of which servers had which tables or what. I had the chicken and waffles and it honestly was really good- felt like it was a good amount of food for $20. My husband had the catfish and he didn't really like it. Another person had the wings (flats only) and said they were good! Overall from the entirety of the party... it was 50/50 on opinions of taste/quality, I suppose just based on what dish everyone got. **** What caught me off guard was the final price... my server broken down our meal with me on one of those hand held card machines + verbally and I saw the screen with the items we ordered and confirmed, but the total they said was higher. I chalked it up to my math being off or something and let it go, which was my mistake. I should've asked for a printed receipt and saw the ENTIRE list of charges and I would've seen the 18% "Entertainment Fee" that was NOT disclosed by my server..... but THAT was conveniently left out in the verbal breakdown and was not shown to me on the screen... once I discovered it on my receipt, I felt as though I'd been lied to and that was kept from us as the customers intentionally. This charge is not currently disclosed on their online menu (can't confirm about the physical menu now since I'm not in-house). If there's a sign posted in the space, it's very easy to miss with the competing decor. Just felt slimy to me. There was a live entertainer from 12:30-2:30 on the stage area and he was very talented! (Photo attached) However, we were seated from 11:30-1:30 and had no idea that we were paying for his set. He also had his own branding up where you could tip him and make requests, so I guess it was my (incorrect) assumption that he was being compensated by the restaurant who was hosting him... again, clearly my mistake. The space is in a side-by-side spot that's crowded and has limited parking if you aren't there when they open/before an event starts. The theme is trendy and there are spots for selfies and photos. I can say parking is terrible, it shares the lot with a small market and they each have their own parking which isn't much. So the place has a lot of art and decoration, a bit much for me but that's not a bad thing ... it must have been busy before we got there because there were a lot of dirty tables , we sat outside in the patio area. The guy that sat us and gave us menus came about 5 minutes later to give us water then I think they forgot about us we sat for 25 more minutes waiting. So we left :-( read more

They were made without simple syrup in them. When we asked about it. They stated they were making some. When it came to the table it was brown sugar water and they charged $2.00 for it. Why are you charging your customers for something they should have it the drink that they ordered. We ordered an appetizer of Fried Calamari. They looked like fried hard onion rings-horrible also. After that to be on the safe side we ordered a cheeseburger and fries. It was alright but it did not come with condiments. We had to ask for those. One friend ordered fried rice and received white rice. When she told the waitress she bought back white rice with onions and peppers in it. Greens were not good. Food was just not up to par. Last, but not least the bathroom was dirty. It appeared that it was not cleaned from the night before and we arrived right when the placed opened. I would not recommend this place to anyone. P.S. I'm not sure if this place is considered to be a Black Owned establishment. It appears to be Black Operated to draw us in but it is definitely not Black Owned. I was in Nashville for the Masego concert with my bestie. We had a whole list of places to go and things to do but everything was closed .. of course .. we found Soul and decided to go. It was in a Tuesday . We came in and it was so nice . We were greeted by a chill and attentive young man-- forgot his name but he had blonde locs. I believe he said his mom designed the interior . The inside was beautiful . It was a nice vibe. We were seated and everything was clean -- from the table to the bathroom. Drinks were on point and so was the food . We both got the wings basket and the fish basket . It was during the lunch hours so each basket was 10 dollars and each drink was about the same . I think I got the drink called soul ties .. it was good .. especially if you like whiskey. Our very nice waiter was attentive to each table and very informative.
