I tried this place after finding it on Uber Eats. I ordered a chicken dinner platter and a fried whiting dinner, with sides of collard greens, candied yams and mac 'n cheese. The only halfway decent portion of the meal is the fried chicken. They use frozen whiting, that was so hard and dark, that it looks like fried chicken and was hard like cardboard. I had a birthday party that I intended to cook for but got so wrapped up in planning that I needed to find some last minute catering. I called up Soulful Foods at around 4pm and asked for 40 piece wings, 20 piece fish, and a pan of macaroni and rice and peas to be picked up at 7pm. Not ONLY did they accommodate my order last minute, but they also threw in extra food! They were extremely nice and prompt and my guests loved the meal. I will start from the beginning of my experience: I am thrilled that this place has opened back up. It was formerly Edna's. Upon entering I noticed the set up is pretty much the same: huge glass partition separating us from the vittles! Lol! My other hand on the wheel cruising down Atlantic Ave. I say out loud to myself (hey, what can I say? I'm single) that the tarter must be homemade cuz it was barely a teaspoon. But my goodness! How delicious! Note to self: ask for extra tarter on the next visit. Once I get to my destination I crack open my mom's turkey wings dinner. The turkey wings are a lil lacking in moisture. But my mom likes the tips crispy. So I guess she'll make due. The candied yams are sticky dark and amazing! The Mac is the Mac. I'm underwhelmed by time I get a couple forkfuls in my face. But I'm full. So there's that. The cornbread is SOOOO FRIGGIN' GOOD! Taste like cake n cornbread all rolled up in one. Y'all know what I mean! That gooood kinda cornbread! I pinched off a nice piece. I will save that for my mama too. Verdict: I will definitely be back! Next time I'm going to try the fried whiting. I think that next time will be after work tomorrow! Lol! We ordered via door dash. Driest jerk Chicken I ever had. Tasty jerk seasoning but chicken was like jerky....beef jerky. Stew chicken and the Rasta pasta with oxtails were very good and tasty. Cabbage with the meal was sooo good with a different seasoning than expected but the cabbage and greens ordered on the side lacked seasoning. It was the end of the night so we probably got the last of the last that had dried out over time. And all was good just a bit salty on the curry goat(still a plus in my book). And don't let the looks of the yams fool you. Those candied yams are up to par. Grubhub mentions that the restaurant denied the refund. 3. They called and said they did not have BBQ beef ribs so I switched to Jerk Pork. I received 1 piece BBQ rib and 2 BBQ pork. So again, 1 burnt and stale beef rib and 2 pieces of pork for $13. 4. Cabbage was blah and undercooked. I am trying to support your business. Don't call me saying I am lying. My curry chicken surprised me as the curry wasn't yellow, it was brown. It tasted like curry but I couldn't really tell because there was not much sauce on the rice or chicken, The rice itself was a bit mushy and I had a lot more rice than sauce and chicken. My order of a small 2 piece fried chicken ($12) was actually a medium sized ONE piece of a conjoined leg and thigh. Not only was the chicken fried HARD it was absolutely flavorless. I was not happy with this at all. My yellow rice was slightly undercooked and basic af. The only thing that was decent was my collard greens, I was not going to review until I spoke to my coworker the next day and he told me that his small order of oxtail( $14) was also not good. We both agreed that the only tasty thing we had was the Cornbread outside of the greens.He is a septuagenarian (75) from the South so I can trust his judgement when he says the food wasn't good and lacked flavor. The food is just Ok but it's the service that really earned them one sole star. There is a ton of confusion on their end and it seems like everyone isn't on the same page. We decided on this place after all of the 4 and 5 star reviews. We called to check the closing time on 02/26/19 they told us 10pm. We took a cab there. When we get there we ask for a menu. The only one they had was an old copy at the cash register so we looked at it. The food came up to $53.35. They take cash or card. Didn't see that in other reviews. Food was just ok. Nothing to rave about as I'm Caribbean and have had waaaayyyyyyy better for way cheaper. Jerk chicken was dry, Mac and cheese was basic, "jumbo" shrimp was lacking in the "jumbo" department. Rasta pasta is just ok. Rice and peas was tasteless. Banana pudding was ok as well.
