Yesterday afternoon, I saw a tweet reminding people to place orders before 4pm, because today (Wednesday) is the day they deliver - yes, that's right, deliver! - their jars of amazingly delicious, healthy, vegetarian-friendly, locally sourced, and [insert list of superlatives and synonyms for the word awesome] soup. Straight from their garden, via the kitchen, to your door. Thanks to the reminder on Twitter, I placed my order online yesterday afternoon for four pints of soup: Fiery Shiitake Mushroom and Barley; Moroccan Chickpea Stew; Rustic Vegetable Bean; and Vegan Lentils and Greens. Each pint comes in a re-usable mason jar, and when you collect six of those, you get a free pint of soup with your next order! Brilliant: it's savvy (saves the business money), and green, and convenient. There's so much win here that I'm having a hard time putting it into words. Long story sort: The Vintage Garden Kitchen is an Arc Enterprises Company, meaning that not only do they provide amazing food (AND DELIVER IT TO YOUR DOOR!), but also, in doing so they provide employment for adults with developmental disabilities. (They're one of the businesses run by the nonprofit Arc of Greater New Orleans.) I've seen the garden where they grow all the food that is used to make these amazing soups, and it blows my mind that food this fresh, this nutritious, and this beautifully convenient is available in New Orleans. But wait, it gets better: their food is shockingly affordable. A half pint of, say, Moroccan Chickpea Stew feeds 2 people, and costs $4.99. The minimum order for delivery is $15, so for four pints I paid about $22.00, and it was delivered the very next day. How. Awesome. Is. That. Seriously. They deliver every Wednesday between 10am and 2pm, and orders must be placed before 4pm on Tuesday to ensure delivery. They deliver to 70001, 70005, 70115, 70118, 70119 (yay!), 70124, and 70125. Again, the minimum order for delivery is $15 (so, approximately three pints, or two quarts, blah blah math and stuff). They take credit cards, it's easy to place an order online, and you can also order in two other ways. Either pre-order for pick-up (and you can come get your soups between 8am and 4pm M-F), or if you don't want to pre-order, you can simply stop by during business hours. Walk-ins are welcome, too! I knew it would be on a Friday (ordered on Tuesday, I think) and they called me midmorning and told me when to expect the box. Then the delivery person called and said they would be at my house in a few. The box was left at my front door and was chock full of amazing fruits and vegetables and even some backed goods. This week I'm going with the combo box which will have both fruit and veggies. If the box you want says sold out or not available. Then try again next week, they only take a specific number of orders per delivery day for their boxes. When we're not in a pandemic, they deliver to community partners and that's where you pick up. This helps get fresh food to areas without grocery stores and can help get discounts via bulk buying. I'm so grateful for this service right now!

She informed us that she was available and as such we booked her services by paying for her services in full. A week prior, in a tragic turn of events, my uncle also passed away. Our family made the difficult choice to hold a joint funeral to honor both my brother in law and uncle on the same day. We reached out to this provider to adjust the date, which she was fine with. Due to a number of competing priorities (i.e. coffin selection, drafting funeral programs, selecting flowers, coordinating travel for out of town family members) we forgot to provide the exact funeral start time. Instead of inquiring regarding the time that she should deliver the food this provider reached out 2 days before the funeral (on a Sunday) to inform us that she was canceling as a time had not been provided although she had been compensated already and was well aware of the date. We were absolutely shocked. Our family had 1 business day to scramble, the week of Thanksgiving (!!), to find a replacement caterer during a time when we wanted to be focused on grieving. This provider also did not proactively refund our money. When asked she agreed to refund 50% due to the late cancellation (which she initiated!!). This was not a policy that was documented in any contract we signed, and such we were able to successfully file a dispute with our card company to obtain the rest of our funds. This provider is unprofessional, dishonest, and worst of all incredibly heartless. If "0" stars was an option it would be what she deserves. DO NOT BOOK HER
