First time here. This place has gotten some good press lately, and people have been buzzing about it. We stopped in a little after noon on a Saturday. There were several other small groups eating inside. Food: For lunch, I got the bulgogi, along with purple rice, mandu (dumplings), and mashed sweet potato salad. My wife got the honey garlic chicken, japchae, and sesame slaw. There were some really good parts and some that were disappointing and underwhelming. For starters, the hot (temperature) entrées weren't really hot. I would say everything was warm. It looked like they were keeping things fresh by only having a small amount in the warming trays, and maybe we got the last of it before another batch was made. Both of the main entrées had great flavor. The bulgogi was very tender, and the marinade flavors were delicious. The honey garlic chicken was also very good, but again suffered from only being warm. The mashed sweet potato salad was a nice surprise and was chilled nicely. The mandu (dumplings) were a bit bland and really needed a bit of soy sauce to add interest. Service: All of the folks who took care of us were very pleasant. They did a great job welcoming us as soon as we entered. We were unsure about some of the items, and they explained them clearly and gave us time to decide. You can order from a list of standard combinations or customize with a starch, protein, and sides. Easy peasy. Genuine smiles, and we felt appreciated. Atmosphere: The place is located in a small strip mall, with lots of natural light coming in through the large front windows. There are several tables and high-tops in the front, with additional tables toward the rear. It's easy to figure out where to go to order. The paper menus and menu board are easy to read, and there are placards that describe what you're looking at. If I came back, I would definitely get the bulgogi again and would just hope that it and the other items were served at a better temperature. read more

Finally I tried Soban after having it on my places to try and it was FANTASTIC!!!!! Do not underestimate the portion, it is a lot of food for what you are paying, the photos do no justice. I had the spicy pork bugolgi with purple rice, mandu, and kimchi. The food tasted great! Very authentic and I love how they do not cater to the average joe. They kept it very real! The pork was very flavorful, rice was sticky and soft. Kimchi was crunchy and fermented. I've had plenty of Korean food all over the country and for a quick eatery that I don't have to sit down and can easy call for pickup. The food and overall service is remarkable. 5 starts and a A+. Wish it was a bit closer to north side Milwaukee but I don't mind the drive, better than going down town or down to Chicago. A definitely must try!!! Trust me bro. lol read more

Yum! Soban is the perfect Friday take out place. It's a let's pop on the couch, put a show, rice, protein, and a couple sides perfection. I was very surprised at the generous portion size! I did a custom make your own with zesty chicken, purple rice, mashed sweet pumpkin salad, and salad with sesame dressing. The chicken was crispy with a sticky glaze. The salad reminded me of yum yum sauce and was refreshing. The sweet pumpkin salad was on the sweeter side and something I'll probably pass next time but I'm a savory gal. It had great texture though. My husband also did a custom order with bbq pork, kimchi, and the fried Mandu. Big fan of the kimchi and fried manu. I would definitely choose these sides again. The bbq pork is on the saucier wet side if you're into that. Overall I'm super impressed and wished I tried Soban sooner! I'm excited to continue to explore the menu. read more

I have been here quite a few times since I first discovered this place. I love this Korean spot. The bulgogi and the spicy pork are so good. It's pricey but you're gonna have to expect pricey at this point. The portion sizes are good though. The owners are super friendly. The mandu is usually kind of cold by the time you eat it but I don't mind that. I don't need my food piping hot but others might not enjoy that. This was a new restaurant to try because we have so little Korean restaurants in the Milwaukee area. The place is in a strip mall with plenty of parking. The decor is modern and fresh with nice tables and chairs. The place is subway style with a hot and cold table to make the entrees. The menu is small but it packs a punch. They have standard entrees or a build your own with choice of proteins, veggies, rice and sides. I chose the build an entree with purple rice, spicy pork, dumplings and Mac salad. The plate looked amazing with that purple rice. The purple rice is sticky and cooked perfect Al dente but didn't pack much flavor. The Mac salad was was cold with with perfect cooked noodles Al dente also. The fried dumplings were average with no distinct meat flavor that appeared to be noodles, micro meat and veggies. The spicy pork in a red sauce topped with sesame seeds was the star. They were tender strips of pork with the heat slowly turning on with the first bite and and a hint of peanut butter in the finish. On a side note the customer service was outstanding with everyone say hi as you walk in and bye as you leave. Overall as Korean food I have nothing to compare it to because there is so little Korean restaurant and the two that I have been to was a seafood stone bowl and a Korean bbq where you cook your protein and get 10 different bowls of side dishes. I watch a lot of Korean television and now, FINALLY, a good authentic BulGoGi joint in town. Unlike previous mediocre Korean restaurants that try to cover too wide a range of Korean cuisine and maybe even pseudo Japanese and Chinese this place is limited to spicy pork or tofu or Bulgogi with the usual sides. Served up Korean style in a place that is Korean clean, and they have Pepsi Zero. K Pop playing and good Tteok-bokki. Service is excellent in a Korean small food shop way. Delicious, clean, not expensive, big portion, quick, balanced meal with a bit of different dishes... Everything we need nowadays for a lunch. I wish they were by my office so I could go for lunch every day ! I got no. 3 chicken meal with purple rice (yes! If anything was going to replace Teriyaki Madness, I'm glad it was Soban! I'm loving the continued acceptance of different cuisines in Hales Corners. Soban is really easy to access off of Hwy 100 and shares a large private lot with several businesses in the strip mall. It's billed as fast-casual Korean food, which feels accurate. But is also really delicious. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and the restaurant is always clean. Ordering is pretty easy, as all the food is visible to you. Rice, pick a protein, and choose sides. Kind of a la Carte style. I've had almost everything at this point, but my go-to is purple rice, tofu, japchae and sesame salad. Or kimchi. Everything is delicious so just go with your gut. The portions are generous so you won't be left hungry! I've lost track of how many times I've been here, but I know it's enough that twice I have earned enough rewards for $5 off. The menu, while delicious and flavorful, is limited. So if you aren't like me, who has no issue eating the same thing every day, you may not find this to be an easy weekly addition to eating out or picking up on the way home. However, the ability to "mix and match" makes it more adaptable for those who, like me, can't stay away for too long! read more

Great place for take out! It's pretty far if you live anywhere in Tosa/MKE area but luckily they do get good distance delivery through the delivery apps! At this point I've tried all their meat options and love them all! I would say the bulgogi is on the saltier end which it normally is and my favorite is probably between zesty chicken and pork bbq. Their sides are all kind of hit or miss, I like the japchae even though the noodles are often either somehow undercooked overcooked, mandu is very average. Coleslaw, macsalad and kimchi are all standard. I love ordering from them because it's just a great hearty korean meal when I'm craving asian food. The only thing I would say is their pricing is definitely on the higher end for what they're offering but .... still going to be ordering it from time to time heh. read more

Saw this and the first few positive reviews, so we had to try it. Staff said they've only been open for 2 weeks but the word must've gotten out as it was quite busy. When we walked in there were a solid 10 people in line. Staff was great, one came out to the line to tell everyone it would only be about 10 minutes to order. I'll start the review by saying I work for a Korean company and have been to Korea twice in the last 9 months (including just 3 weeks ago), so I have a pretty good palette for their food. Now for the food: My wife had the Bulgogi, purple rice, mandu (dumplings) and salad. She loved everything but the salad. Said it was a little bland. I had the spicy pork, purple rice, mandu and japchae...and everything was absolutely delicious. Pork was spicy and flavorful (but not obnoxious), rice was done perfect, mandu was absolutely fantastic and the japchae was top notch. My new favorite Korean spot! I had been waiting to try this spot because I enjoy "build your own meal" spots. It is in a strip mall, so parking is not a hassle. First, you get to pick a base. We chose the purple rice, and it was delish. You then get to pick your protein. All the meats looked appetizing, and they do have vegetarian options if that's what you like. We chose the bulgogi. it reminded me a little bit of brisket you get at Korean barbecue because it's so delicately sliced and melts in your mouth. You also get to pick your two sides. We wanted the sweet pumpkin mash. Unfortunately, they said they were out and it would be around 10 mins before they bring out another. We were on a bit of a time crunch and didn't want to wait, so we picked a different side. I was a bit skeptical about the sesame salad because it seemed like mostly cabbage, but it was actually amazing and balanced well with the meat. You pay at the counter and then sit down to eat. As we were eating and almost done with our meal, one of the workers came out and gave us a side of the sweet pumpkin mash. Wow! He wanted to let us know that he remembered we tried to get it at the counter but didn't want to wait, so he brought one out for us as soon as this was done. That was really kind of him to do. When businesses go above and beyond, even if it's just little things, it really makes the experience amazing. The pumpkin mash was so flavorful and tasty. This place exceeded my expectations. my first time at a fast food korean place and was NOT disappointed!! i'm such a big fan of korean food, hadnt even realized until i came here (found it randomly and came without looking at pics ahead of time) that any time i went to a Korean spot, it was usually a nice restaurant. when we got here i was surprised it was more fast food style cause the food was definitely restaurant level in taste!! i thought the portions were perfect too. you order a protein, rice base, and two sides. i tried their braised tofu--absolutely delicious!! they have a sign saying your wait is longer with this protein but they were so quick it barely felt like a wait! we also tried the tteokbokki and that was my first time having it be more creamy--so good!! they have some of the food already warm and waiting up front so the service was so quick and the cashier was so friendly and patient!! the place itself is so minimally decorated but still a nice, clean feel. with drinks and another side, we paid around $45 for two people. a bit pricier but 10/10 will be back!!!! read more

It follows a Chipotle-style format where you pick your protein and sides. While the flavors were "ok" it was a bit flat for our taste. The japchae was tasty but it was lacking vegetables and felt sparse. The shredded cabbage with sesame dressing didn't work for me and didn't really complement the meal, it was more like a garnish. In hindsight, I should have skipped the cabbage signature side and went with the kimchi instead. Overall it was a convenient option, but not one I am eager to rush back for. read more

Going in, I knew it was a chipotle style Korean food. But the friendly greeting in Korean as soon as I walked in had me hooked. I tried the build your own bowl with purple rice, half spicy chicken and half spicy pork. If you are a fan of spice just get the pork. It was amazingly delicious. They also give you a lot of food! I went here a week ago and it was super good! , I've eaten many Korean foods so I have to say this is pretty legit. Eggs get some what stale but I say it depends on the freshness of how early you arrive. Service was good except the young pale lady. She seem not so friendly. Kinda seemed a bit rushy by her looks. As I was new to the place, it's like she wanted me to hurry the freak up lol obviously i can care less but the food is great. Kitchen looks clean too. I usually do an inspect of the area. Just ordered from Soba today and was super happy with the Seoul Bulgogi signature plate. The Bulgogi was delicious, as was the japchae and sesame side salad. I come from a Korean home, so this reminded me of my mom's food, which is a huge compliment! Will be making this a regular stop in the future. The person before us ordered about 5 meals but the problem was the customer and worker were talking a lot and it took about 25 minutes for the worker to put that order together!
