Wors clam chowder I've had . . It was more like chicken soup . . There were a lot of veggies but the clams were really small and it was not creamy at all . . I even went back to make sure they gave me the right soup . . I'm not sure if there are different chefs but this clam chowder was disappointing . . The people working were not friendly at all . . I asked for a bread bowl and he said "we don't do that here . . " The saving grace was the focaccia bread which was very tasty and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside . . Good purveyor of soups. We often pick up pre-made, packaged soups from Soup Meister. We've tried the Minestrone, Carrot, Seafood Chowder, Clam Chowders and Chicken Noodle soups. All are pricy, but they all come with lots of vegetable/meat chunks. Unfortunately, the fish used in the seafood chowder has a freezer burn taste which detracts from an otherwise terrific product. The soups are made from an army of personnel who labor to peel potatoes and chop carrots. I know I'm getting a fresh product from them, so I am willing to pay a bit more. They also do a steady business selling ready-to-eat soup for customers wanting their soup fix right away. Worth a visit if you are at Lonsdale Quay. read more

It came with a super large and delicious roll and was very affordable at just under $7 for a medium. They had 4 or 5 soups available. Most were broth based and a good mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The clam chowder was good. Large chunks of generous italian sausage, heaps of veggies and tiny cute tube shaped pasta in one bowl; I only wish it was topped off with some grated parmesan cheese. Nonetheless, hearty in a word. Prices here are definitely steep: $7.75 for a large bowl. They do serve it with a premium bun: whole wheat, white or focaccia. Overall, highly recommend if you love soup! I ended up stocking (haha, "stock" ing up- get it?) for when we were going to be on Vancouver Island. I got the Seafood Chowder, Chicken Noodle, Potato Salmon Chowder and a Vegetable Soup. The Seafood Chowder is absolutely amazing and I wish I could eat another bowl of it now. It's a tomato based chowder with tons of fresh seafood (snapper, clams, halibut, etc). Just got back from a Bike Ride to North Vancouver where we stopped at Lonsdale Quay for a rest break. Since I was hungry from riding and fighting Today's Windy conditions, I decided to have some of the Soup Meister great Seafood Chowder for lunch, Its a Tomato Based soup with lots of chucks of salmon and white fish with flavor that comes putting in the right mix of ingredients together and cooking it for the right amount of time. A large bowl with a bun makes for a good lunch at about six bucks. Another biker in the group had the Chicken Mushroom which I have had before and he told me he really enjoyed his also. A small bowl, with a bun costs $5. I chose the large, which was $7. I had the seafood chowder - very nice, lots of fish and clams. My friend had the hamburger soup. Again, flavourful, meaty and a meal in itself. The soup is served in either paper "to go" cups, but they will serve in ceramic bowls and a metal plate to hold the bowl of soup and the bun. I always chose this low-waste option. You can eat your soup in the nearby seating area or take it to the main food court area at the other side of the quay. If one likes a craft beer with their tasty soup - bring your bowl and tray to Green Leaf Brewery and but a glass or pint to go with. You can eat take out from other eateries in the brew pub seating area as they don't have a food kitchen (just be sure to get a beer from them). Passed by this place while at the Lonsdale Quay Market, and I must say, it was quite a good find! The soups here all look good, but because I have such a weak spot for clam chowder, that's pretty much the only thing I order (if it's an option). I ordered a "large" bowl, which I believe is actually the "middle" size. They start their sizes at medium or something like that. The soup was very flavorful and rich, but not heavy, and you could taste the clams! Prices here are decent for the amount of soup that you get, and I personally think that the large size can be comfortably shared by two people. If there's Tomato Basil, outta my way. When I enter the Quay from the parking lot, I always squint to see what soup in on tap for the day. Recently I've had the Beef Barley and the Tomato Basil. I think Tomato Basil is the best. A lovely tomato soup with a hint of heat. I've tried the Cream of Chicken: chunks of chicken with big slices of mushrooms. Yum. It comes with a bun (white, brown or foccacia). You can get it to go or for dine in... I always get it to go because we go and sit near the All Day Cafe to get coffee. I think they give you more if you have a for-here bowl. I get the large. It's $5.90 plus tax. I also get a coke there... it's in a can. They also have a freezer section with containers of soup. The Quay is usually a first stop so I don't want to buy a frozen soup defrosting in my car all day. read more
