I was in the area on a windy day and was craving some hot noodles. Checked yelp and saw this place had exactly what I wanted, + good reviews. Perfect! The service was great, the staff was very welcoming and pleasant. My ramen was good, I liked the freshness of all of the toppings (i believe that was my first time trying wood ear mushrooms). I also got 2 very generous pieces of pork in my ramen which I was happy with. Being someone who always gets tonkotsu ramen, I do wish the broth and pork were slightly saltier to bring all the flavors together more. I do admit I didn't ask for recos or check for what they're known for, and if I always get tonkotsu ramen that probably wasn't the best comparison point to a soup place that doesn't only serve that. I should've been more adventurous and tried something like the curry noodles. Either way for the overall food, experience, and price, I will be back to be more adventurous next time!
accidentally finding this place while taking a bus. place is quite small and all sit with bar table. staffs are so polite and nice with great service. order the tom yum noodles soup since it is written recommendation and i will say yes, it is absolutely recommended!!! love it and you make my tummy. ba mi heang is a bit sweet for me but still good. just a thought: if it is served with a bowl of chicken broth, may be even better. if you are a noodle lover, should come and try this place!!!

Soup Shack, located on Centre Street in Jamaica Plains, specializes in made-to-order Vietnamese pho, Korean ramen, and Thai noodle soups, and Japanese-inspired rice bowls. The ambiance is very casual with countertop seating facing the front window and the open kitchen (.. a consideration if you don't want to smell like cooked meats for the rest of your day ..) as well as a few tables and chairs outside. It's a small dining area with 12-15 seats, so you may have to wait for an open seat, but the staff does a good job serving the food quickly and turning over the seats. The service was very good with staff that's very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. Craving a hot soup on a slightly chilly and dreary Saturday, I opted for the special Mala Pho ($16), a generous portion of hot soup comprised of soft rice noodles topped with sliced steak, beef balls, flank steak, bok choy, cherry tomatoes, onion, scallions, and cilantro, served over a spicy mala beef broth. YUM! Loved it. My dining companion tried the Fried Tofu rice bowl ($14), with lightly battered soft Japanese tofu, cucumber, bok choy, and scallions, served over Japanese steamed rice, which she really enjoyed as well. We will definitely be back next time we're in the area! PRO TIP #1: Soup Shack doesn't have its own parking lot, but there's plenty of on-street parking on Centre Street.

The food came out quick and the portions were huge! It was delicious and filling with the right amount of spiciness. The broth was so flavorful and the pork was good but a little too fatty. The service was great and the servers were friendly. There is counter/bar seating around the restaurant and outdoor seating (before the colder months). When it gets busy it's busy so prepare for that. I can't wait to go again and try the other options on the menu.

I got the Yasai Ramen, alongside two shared plates of Seaweed Salad and Agedashi Tofu. The seaweed salad was classic, with refreshing crunchy bits. The tofu was decent, but not something I'd order again. The ramen itself was delicious. It wasn't anything to call home about (I've had better ramen in the past), but absolutely hits the spot for when you're in the mood. The Yasai Ramen is vegetarian (and can be vegan with a noodle replacement), and I was told better than the Tonkotsu Ramen because of the depth if flavors in the vegan broth, which I have to agree with. I will for sure come again, and I recommend it if you're in the neighborhood and are craving noodles.
Soup Shack in Jamaica Plain is very welcoming. Wife loved the curry soup with steak as it's perfect for the fall season and the duck noodle soup is my favorite. They're very friendly and accommodating, a relaxed atmosphere, and had a extra high stool for my kid to sit and dine with us. The prices are reasonable for the portions, and the food had the right amount of spices for my taste buds. Whether you're in for quick dining in or grabbing takeout, Soup Shack is the spot for those cold weathers where you want something soupy to enjoy.
With all of their dishes in the $12-$15 range I think their portion sizes are a good deal for the price. The servers are super accommodating about dietary restrictions and will make recommendations/adjustments for you if there are things you cannot eat. I tried the pho ga ($11.95). The broth was light yet flavorful and comforting even on a warm day! I've found that restaurants often struggle with the chicken in pho ga (it's always dry) and the chicken was, unsurprisingly, dry here. The chicken was a big portion though. I am curious about how their other (non-chicken) dishes are, considering that they have such a wide variety of noodle dishes to choose from.

Finally tried it today since it was conveniently close to where I was running errands and they blew it out of the park. Service was quick & they were attentive the entire time. We were in and out in less than thirty minutes. They only have high top tables indoors but if the weather's nice, they have outdoor seats too! We ordered the Kao Soi & Tonkatsu Ramen and both were incredible, probably the best I've had in the Boston area so far. Not pictured is their Roasted Duck bun, which was also really good.
This places Ramen is great! I added corn and removed the Menma (Menma in general I just don't like) They also have this side chili flakes in oil kind of topping that can add for extra spice and flavor. Clears my sinuses well.
Not a lot of flexibly in the menu for vegetarians (1 soup), people that do not want a slice of pork , or any other preferences: I asked to replace the broth in one of the soups and was told they wouldn't do so. Same with replacing pork pieces ("no substitutes"). We ended up taking the following: Tan Tan Men - very fatty, not flavored enough beyond the hot chili. Very low on the vegetables portions. Most of the pork slices are fat and not meat. Duck soup - pho with additional strange (interesting? ) choice flavor. Here too, the duck want cleaned and there was a lot of fat, cartilage, and skin. Again, vegetable portions were small.
TL;DR - Soup Shack ended up having a couple minor things that were rough around the edges, but was nonetheless delicious, hearty, filling, and had fast and friendly service. Was in JP visiting a friend, and after having Mexican for the past two days, for the first time ever, I decided to skip tacos. This was one of the first places we passed, and I had an instant craving for the Dirty Ramen special. I had the Steamed Bun with pork belly(bao) as an appetizer, the Thai Iced Tea, and of course, the aforementioned Dirty Ramen monthly special. Before I get into the dishes - I have to give props to the menu! It is short, and not at all intimidating. Even better, all the dishes had pictures next to them! Reading a description is good, seeing what you're thinking of ordering is priceless! The Ice Tea wasn't quite what I was expecting. I would have liked it to be a little stronger, but it was still pleasant and refreshing - and of a funky color! The Steamed Bun had a lot of promise, but the execution was less than stellar. They had put way too much veggies within, which made it a little messy to eat, and threw the balance way off. The pork belly within was very pleasant, but hidden by the veggies, and any sauces were completely buried. Then there was the Dirty Ramen - this was an absolutely heavenly explosion of flavor! I made the mistake of not giving it a stir before eating (I'm a noob when it comes to ramen) but it was an experience to be beheld nonetheless. Unlike ramens I'd had before, the broth here had a slightly heartier consistency (from the bean curd, I think). Everything else from the noodles to the veggies and pork within was similarly delectable and well balanced! There was a little spicy to the dish, but very mild. The location is small, but clean, and the service was very nice, friendly, and fast! It was a great value as well, as the large bowl of Dirty Ramen only cost $12.95! (Dirty Ramen = Spicy pork broth with fermented bean curd, cha-shu pork, bean sprouts, mama, wood ear mushroom, scallions, sesame seeds, spicy chili vinegar, nori and togarashi.)
I know it doesn't look like much but this place was SO GOOD! It's very small inside, but we got a bar seat at the window so we could people watch while we ate! Pictured first is the spicy beef ramen - it was like 牛肉麵 but spicy and with ramen noodles and a thicker broth The star of the show was the Tom yum noodle soup though (I may or may not be biased since I ordered it). It came with 叉燒 (unexpected but fantastic), ground pork, and fish balls. The perfect mix of sour and spicy Our server was lovely; we liked his eye smile a lot
This Soup Shack location is the best imo. I've been to the one in Brookline and Porter Square which are closer to me but JP is where I discovered Soup Shack. I hate leaving reviews below 4 stars but it appears that portions have downsized by a lot while prices have increased within the last several years due to economic changes. I'm not sure if this location is still managed by the same owners before the pandemic but I would like to see improvements. This is a good location if you're in the area and need a quick solo lunch or dinner. read more

My favorite restaurant in JP! I am obsessed with their Tom Yum soup, and it is one of the few restaurants where I can say I've never had a bad dish in the many times that I've been. Let me tell you more about the Tom Yum soup of my dreams. It has a nice tangy and spicy broth with a hint of fish from the fish balls. It's quite complex and tasty and perfect for noodles. The protein is roasted pork, ground pork, and fish balls which makes it's a hearty savory meal. The crunch of the bean sprouts and the cilantro give the soup an extra layer of texture and flavor. It is just as good at the restaurant as it is as takeout. Not many dishes you can say that to. If you are looking for a soup that's a little off the beaten path, you have to give the Tom Yum a try. I've had their duck rice bowl in the past and it is excellent. Delicious fatty pieces of roast duck along with a sweet sauce make it a memorable dish. The ramen and pho is also quite good and up to par with high quality restaurants that focus specifically on these dishes. Pricing may be on the higher side for some dishes but the value you get is worth it from the fresh and tasty ingredients. The restaurant itself is small but the outdoor seating has been a nice addition. I typically get take out but during the times I've eaten at the restaurant, the service has been fast and friendly. They even allow me to have my dog with me which isn't the case for many Boston restaurants. Must try in JP or at many of their other locations around Boston! read more

Spicy pork with soft boil-egg added. Pork was FULL of flavor, fresh, and not too fatty. Rice was cooked right, and sauce was as described (SPICY). Clearly a very consistent establishment. Only con is very limited seating inside. Only has bar style seating. Will return read more
It's a very cute lil spot real close to Jamaica Pond. The people here are so so nice and the menu is a fusion one of viet, thai & japanese? (Which is very cool i love all of the above cuisines). My boyfriend got a spicy tonkotsu ramen and it's good! (Not the best we've tried, pork wasn't the most tender but tasted pretty tonkotsu-ey!) and whenever i see takoyakis, i have to try! And as you can see, I tried the takoyakis from here. they were ok, wish they came in 6 instead of 4 lol and surprisingly i've had better these balls at a mall sushi spot! And last but not least I got a brothless noodle dish cause I wasn't feeling ramen ramen mood and it was pretty interesting. Very sweet. Which is not my favorite flavor when it comes to noodles/ramen dishes. But overall a decent spot. We might come back if we're in the area to try other dishes read more
Tried this place with a friend. I got the spicy miso noodle soup with 6 piece gyoza. My friend got the Ba-Mi Heang which had wontons and a side of gyoza. I think it had gotten misinterpreted with the server when she asked if she could have the dumplings, that were included in the entree, pan fried rather than steamed and the server ended up bringing both and charged extra for an extra order of gyoza. Luckily the gyoza was very yummy and we ended up finishing all of the food we had ordered. I do wish that the soup for my noodles was more drinkable but it was still tasty regardless. The highlight of our meal was definitely the gyoza. Will certainly return soon ! Also they do not have regular table seating, it is bar seating and you'll most likely sit next to other parties. I ordered the veggie steamed bun and vegetarian ramen, and both were delicious. It was refreshing to find a vegetarian ramen soup with a flavorful base other than miso. The steamed bun was particularly tasty. As a solo diner, I felt comfortable dining alone. The restaurant had a quaint atmosphere, and street parking was available. read more
One word to describe this place: AMAZING!!!! Initially when I saw the yelp reviews, I was a little skeptical when people had written that everything on their menu was delicious. After last night, I couldn't agree more!! My friends and I tried the Spicy Beef Miso Stew, the veggie Yasai Ramen, the Duck Noodle Soup, and the Takoyaki. The broth for all three were made very well and had a lot of flavor. All three were also beautifully plated and look as good as they tasted. The Takoyaki were perfectly crisped and the Bonito flakes on top made the whole dish so fun to watch. Loved this place! Can't wait to go back and try more dishes!! read more
It's an all in one Asian soup place - Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese noodles and rice options. Flavors are very good, soup has umami, and pricing is very reasonable. It is more of a casual joint and so there is not seating for groups or kids. Only countertops, but hopefully this can expand in the future! read more

Ordered the chicken katsu curry and a rice bowl along with a bowl of ramen to have a variety for my first time. Curry had decent flavors and not too spicy at all. The chicken katsu was crunchy and hit the right spots. The rice bowl was good just not enough meat to balance the rice ratio that was underneath. The ramen broth was delicious, perfect amount of salt and seasoning, meats and additional items complimented the well cooked noodles. read more

A cute little space with bar stools like seating. The service is quick and friendly. Ordered Yasai and Tan Tan men and both were really good, great depth of flavor with chewy bouncy noodles. They also have chilly oil on side so you can adjust spice level accordingly. Would definitely recommend it. read more
Stopped in last wednesday for dinner right after work around 5pm. we had our choice of seats as we were the early birds. one khao soi and one miso ramen. i had the khao soi. i really liked the bone in thigh, the spicy red pepper flake oil drizzled on top, crunchy noodles, and pickled veggies. i didn't care for its sweetness. it was the sweetest khao soi i've had here in boston and that abundance of sugar threw me off from rating the dish higher. personally it's not my cup of tea, or shall i say, bowl of soup? i did have some of the miso ramen. the miso was more mild than what i usually have in general amongst all miso ramens i've had. the salt level was really good as in it was not salty as most miso ramen i've had. i think soup shack is a great place to appease a broad group of people. my personal opinion is that any place that offers a broad spectrum and variety of cuisines aren't going to do all of the varieties very well. you want the best khao soi, go to a dedicated thai restaurant. you want an amazing miso ramen? go to a legit dedicated japanese ramen shop. it's street parking and all of the seating is bar stool style along the wall and kitchen. read more

Very generous portions and flavor packed soups for great prices. Perhaps it was because it was a cold snowy day out and we sat at the counter facing the beautiful snowy scene and the staff was extremely kind and attentive, but it felt like a perfect 10 lunch. The only suggestion I might make is to have more options without pork as the meat. I had the Duck Noodle Soup and my kid had the Kao Soi which is a curry noodle soup with a chicken leg in it. Never disappoints. I've been back to Soup Shack maybe 15-20 times since discovering this place 1 year ago. It's honestly that good. They always satisfy my soup or ramen craving. My favorites from here are the Kao Soi, Tom Yum Noodle Soup, Tan Tan Men Ramen, and the Roasted Pork Steamed Buns. I've tried a handful of the dishes including the duck noodle soup & almost all the other ramens and the ones listed above are my holy grails. Kao Soi- 10/10 "Northern style curry noodle dish with chicken drumstick, steamed ramen noodle, pickled green mustard, pickled red onion, scallions, spicy chili oil and wedge of lime. Topped with crispy egg noodle in curry broth." Tom Yum- 10/10 Thai style hot & sour soup with rice noodle, roasted pork, home style ground pork, fish ball, bean sprouts. Sprinkled with ground peanut, scallions, cilantro and crispy fried garlic in spicy Tom Yum broth. Tan Tan Men 8/10- Pork broth, spicy ground pork, spicy sesame oil (Rayu), Cha-shu pork (Marinated Braised Pork Belly), bok choy, bean sprouts, nori, sesame seeds and scallions. Ramen can be tricky to transport, but Soup Shack packages all their soups and ramens with care. The noodles come in a separate bowl from the broth which is packaged separately and tied in plastic wrap. I'm always impressed with their packaging. However, a pro tip that I've learned, the portions are always bigger if you sit down inside which is why I started eating there :) I can always finish my take out, but usually leave with a small container when sitting down there. One thing I've always wondered, but never asked is to alter the spice level. It would be fun if you could change it to your preference. I prefer my dishes super spicy and have never found any of the soups to be spicy enough. FYI the photos are of the take out dishes. read more

Hi. Most restaurants that personally deliver their own food have a very small mile radius. You might have better luck ordering through a delivery app like Uber Eats as their delivery radius's are larger.
