I always am skeptical of a menu that covers a lot of different cuisines and this unfortunately proved me right. Some of us ordered thai dishes and I got to Bo Kho. I was honestly confused when my Bo Kho came out as it's typically a hearty beef stew with a tomato base. What came to me was a mild (bland) bowl of pho with some pieces of beef that honestly tasted a little sour? Maybe I should have stuck to thai as my friends enjoyed their dishes. I'm visiting from San Jose, CA, so my standards for Vietnamese food is extra high. After 3 days without Viet food, I'm dying for some fish sauce in my life. So far, Noodle Barn has been the most decent that I've Door Dashed in Boston. Bun Thit Nuong - meat was well seasoned and had a little char on it, and the veggies were cut super thin. The noodles were too thin, but at least they weren't dry, which makes it not edible. Also the eggroll the put in there gets soggy by the time it gets to the customer. If they cared about food quality, they would put the eggroll in a separate bag so it stays crispy, especially since you're paying $2. for it. The fish sauce was also super watered down and didn't have any chili garlic or anything in it. In California, this would be 2 stars, but for Boston, it's 4 stars. read more

When I'm walking around a restaurant dense area looking for a place to get food, I seek out 'what looks at me," and in this case, it was Noodle Barn. I didn't check Yelp before, which by some definitions, is as adventurous as I get. I ordered the Crab Rangoons, and the Red Curry dinner (with chicken). + Crab Rangoons: these were a mixed bag. On the positive side, they were crabby! Which is always a great find, as they are 'crab' rangoons and not 'cream cheese' rangoons! On the negative side, the dough was on the chewy and greasy side. I can understand and forgive a little greasiness for something that just came out of the fryer. However, I highly prefer the wonton wrappers to be crisp, especially when they just came out of the fryer. + Red Curry: On the positive side, the broth was delightful! Just a tiny bit sweet, a tiny bit spicy, and wicked savory! As for the remainder, it missed the mark for me. The chicken was nothing to write home about, however, it was the veggies that really made this dish subpar. Now, you ever watch 'Worst Cooks in America'? with Anne Burrell grilling one of the recruits for how they cut something: putting the smallest item in the largest item side-by-side? Well I think we need to get Anne Burrell into this kitchen for a little bit. Some of the veggies were in absolutely massive chunks, and other smaller. Mind you all you get is a spoon! Then we need to get Gordon Ramsay into this kitchen to yell at them about the veggies being, in Ramsay fashion "[expletive deleted] Raw!" But really, the veggies, especially the carrots, were very tough. They needed to spend a lot more time boiling. So pretty much, the curry was a pleasant broth, with okay chicken, combined with haphazardly chopped and severely undercooked vegetables. Pleasantly surprised with their bhan mi sandwiches!! My girlfriend was craving bhan mi and this was one of the few restaurants have options for vegetarian bhan mi! We were hesitant based on the reviews, but because of the recommendation of our siblings, we went and were not disappointed. Noodle barn is fairly small, but we didn't wait to get to our table. We were immediately greeted, seated, and got our drink order in right away. The servers were very attentive and they refilled my water about 4 or 5 times--I felt very valued! Between us we ordered the rice paper rolls (Bahn Hoi) with grilled chicken, crispy chicken pad Thai, and the chicken pad see ew. We loved all of them because of their incredible depth of flavor and the portion sizes were great for the ~$12! The crispy chicken pad Thai was great because it was very unique. I've never seen anything like it. It's got more of a sweet and heavy flavor, since the chicken is deep-fried, so if you're looking for something healthy and light, this would not be for you ;-) The pad see ew was incredibly good. If you've never had it before, try it here, it's one of the best we've ever had. Wide rice noodles with chicken, green onion, broccoli, and a very delicate sweet soy sauce. It's what dreams are made of. My surprise favorite of the night was the Bahn Hoi! Not everyone will love this meal, but I'd describe it like a light, Asian-style fajita. You get a lot of fillings--mint leaves, cucumber, carrots, lettuce, chicken (or choice of meat, but the grilled chicken was delicious), rice noodles, and a very nice sweet sauce. You then get rice paper rolls that come in this cool container (pic attached) that doubles as a water container to soak them and get them moldable. I had the beef Pho. My wife had the Tom Kha. All the dishes were wonderful. We opened with Summer Rolls. A generous serving of peanut dipping sauce complemented the minty rolls. Ordered from here a few times and absolutely ADORE their Tom Kah Gai noodle soup--it's creamy with a strong umami base and an acidic tang with a nice freshness from the bean sprouts and Thai basil. Just perfect. However the last time we ordered from them, my husband found a piece of metal in his mango curry! He had chewed some and swallowed it because it was rather thin/stringy like noodles (looked like scrap from a take out box) and investigated it when he found more. I've attached pics but I'm sorely disappointed because I don't think we'll order from here again. Last night we ordered pot stickers, spicy wings, salt and pepper calamari and the Gung Entree w/ Chicken. Total was $41 with a 25 minute wait. The food was well seasoned and cooked to perfection, the dipping sauce paired with pot stickers are to die for! No complaints food portions. Very good food at good prices. Great for vegetarians although I don't know if their sauces have fish or oyster sauce so be careful if you want to avoid that. The only gripe I have is the temperature here is always truly awful. In summer when I would do take out, I would go in and it would be hot and sweltering almost like the outside. I guess that's how the owners like it? And I went on a cold night this winter with my family. We sat at the back most table and even though they have that plastic guarding the front door to keep the cold out, a kitchen keeps their door open the entire time and a freezing cold breeze kept all of us cold. I even asked the waitress if they had the door open back there because I was freezing. She said yeah they have to keep it open because they are going in and out so much. I don't believe that I think they just want to keep the kitchen cool and don't care about their customers. My question was more like a heavy hint that the door needed to be shut. I drive 30-40 minutes to go to Noodle Barn because it really checks off all the boxes! There is a huge variety of noodle dishes; I always have a hard time picking just one! My favorite so far is Barn's Noodle Soup. The broth is soothing and the grilled pork is amazing. Pho in general is always good. I've also enjoyed the Pad See-Ew and Pad Woon Sen. The flavoring is just right -- not too sweet, salty, or oily. For appetizer, I love the crab rangoon. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very comfortable. I've been here a couple times when it's raining and the view out the window is actually beautiful when it's raining due to the reflection of street lights on the wet streets. The restaurant was playing rainy jazz music at this time, which really amplified the mood in a positive way. Service is great; we get our waters refilled regularly and the check quickly. I've never needed to wait to be seated the numerous times I come on weekdays for dinner. The price is also reasonable for a good portion size. As a final bonus, there's a parking lot with free parking for 2 hours! read more

The name of the game at Noodle Barn is FLAVOR. And boy does it pack a huge flavor punch. I ordered the lemongrass chicken lunch special and a pork bahn mi. The chicken made my whole apartment smell like lemongrass and tasted very good. The lemongrass and other aromatics are very strong, and it is just spicy enough to have a kick but not burn your mouth. The veggies were thick-cut and still crunchy, which is how I like them. Very fresh. The Bahn mi was also fantastic. The pork itself was very tender and full of flavor.. I could eat it on its own. But add in the spicy jalapenos, crunchy veggies and cilantro and it was the perfect sandwich. And at only $7, was a steal! The place is very nice, all wood floors and tables. Felt more like a bistro than a typical Thai or Vietnamese place. They serve beer and wine. The host at the front was extremely friendly when he took my to-go order and it was all ready in about 15 minutes. Pretty good for all being prepared fresh.
