This has become my favorite place for pho, and I keep going back again and again. The place is small but can host enough people to give it a family style venue. And the food is amazing; quality and healthy comfort food. Yes, there is always time for soup!

We stopped by at around 7:30 on a Friday night, and were originally told the wait was about 40 minutes but coincidentally a table opened up and we were seated immediately! The servers were pretty nice and prompt in filling our waters, and the food came out pretty quickly. The goi salad was huge and pretty good, and our ramens were decent as well. Nothing life changing, but pretty decent for a quick fix!

I honestly didn't know what to expect when I walked in w/ my wife on a brisk, sunny day in November. What I was greeted was an aromatic haymaker in the form of rich, slow-simmered broths and slow roasted meats... ah yes, we had been transported to the glory that is cold-weather Asian cuisine. Many places specialize in ramen, soba, udon, or pho... but not the Soup Shack! No, they have brought many of your favorites to create a one-stop shop of soup, noodle, and rice dishes from all over Asia. No more arguing over Thai vs. Ramen, you can have them both in one place! Enough about their approach, the food was amazing and priced as though you are getting it from a street stall (very cheap/reasonable). There are vegetarian options, but the real depth in the broths are under the meat selections... you just can't get that light slick, marrowy taste from vegetables, sorry vegans and vegetarians. There are the usual add-ins so you can create your own twist on their classic offerings and even a build-your-own option. I trust the experts to craft the best they offer so it seems a bit of a waste unless you are a picky eater, but I digress. The item that caught my eye was the spicy miso beef soup/stew (can't remember the exact item), as I have not seen something of this nature on any menu in or around Boston on our ongoing tour of new and/or exciting ramen and noodles. It had a spicy broth with a *hint of sweetness and was full of tender sirloin/flank steak. As in many other places, the meat is not butchered so there will be a bit of a battle with connective tissue but that's part of the fun in Asian soups (at least for me, not so much for my wife). We coupled our soups with edamame and a Goi salad, both superb and at a great price point. The decor and service were superb as well. It's a small shop (6 tables, with ~4 bar/window seats), but cozy and pretty quiet overall. There is even a Dragonball mural leading to the bathrooms to accompany the light wood/bamboo environment. It feels cozy and minimalist, with a direct view into the kitchen so you can watch the magic happen but more importantly get waves of aroma when there are dishes being made. Truly a neighborhood gem that doesn't get the respect some of the other ramen and udon shops get in the area, but definitively worthy of some of your hard-earned dollars if you are looking for something to warm your body and your soul. The Soup Shack has been entered into our bargain restaurant rotation. I can't believe it took us 3 years to finally find them, that's just a shame when I could have had their soup for the past 3 years within a 10m walk. You don't have to be a 10m walk away though, it's right off the Porter Square Red Line T stop. It's worth the super easy trek if you have access to the red line!

Delicious food every time. The service is speedy. The atmosphere was like modern Japanese style. I was going to Lesley at the time and I ordered take out from them. It was amazing! They gave you a bowl, chopsticks, and a spoon. I have never received all of that for ordered take out at a noodle place.

Delicious Soups! I went here a lot during college. What else would you want after a long day of classes? I've tried almost everything on the menu and they're all delicious! My recommendations: -Duck noodle soup: roasted duck with ramen noodles and bok choy. The broth is sooo good and they're very generous with their duck portion. -Pho: not the same as my mom's pho but good for a restaurant! Again, they're very generous with their meat. Try the Pho Sate if you like a kick! -Mi Wonton: pork and shrimp dumplings with ramen noodles, bok choy and roasted pork. I love any kind of dumpling so this always hit the spot for me. Drinks: -coconut juice: can't go wrong with coconut juice with the coconut pieces! -Thai tea: always hit the spot, brewed very well!

The tom yum special which is Creamy Tom Yum Ramen with Tonkotsu broth. jumbo shrimp [2). little Neck clam [2], ramen noodle. tomato [2). wood ear mushroom, scallion, nori and lime was pretty good. Has a slight kick to it and definitely has the tom yum flavor profile but weak on lemon grass so could have used more of that. The shrimps were big and juicy. They ran out of clams so just asked if we were ok with just more shrimp which I am totally fine. The noodles come could be a little more al dente but overall very good. The mix of tom yum and pork broth works for this noodle bowl. Service was good, we were greeted immediately upon entry and offered bar seats as it was fairly busy. Ambiance is very casual and popular music being played. Parking is easy as it is lot parking for the shopping center.

I have dined here in person as well as ordered takeout- my favorite ramen here is the tan tan men! I enjoy the spicy miso as well, but it is much hotter (and I am a wimp :)). I would stick to soups- had the chicken katsu curry and it was just ok/good, but not great. For takeout, my ramen was well packaged and arrived super hot !

I stopped by Soup Shack Porter for a late lunch/early dinner after finishing my errands nearby. I picked this place because I was looking for nearby place that offerred Asian food (since my current city doesn't really offer many good options). Overall, I was satisfied with the food they offerred. Frankly, I was really surprised that the place was run by a Thai person...and had, therefore, changed what I wanted to order to a Thai dish...just because..I felt that...a Thai dish just gotta be more authentic than any other dish...and I wasn't disappointed at all! I ended up ordering dried BBQ and wonton noodles..and was very satisfied with its taste! It was something I definitely missed and it was on point! I also ordered Takoyaki..which was good..but maybe I wasn't as impressed of it as the wonderful dry noodles dish that I had! While they have lots of options for you to choose, being that the place is run by Thai people, my recommendation is to go for a Thai dish! I did with my noodles dish and was rewarded with a taste I had been missing out for so long living in my current city. Note: the dish is actually quite generous..because I ordered a side dish (takoyaki) and dried noodles (ba-mee-hang), I couldn't finish the whole noodles dish....although I loved it quite a bit, too! So..pace yourself!

We got seated very quickly and our waiter was great! Our food came out after 5 minutes and was very fresh. The bun bo hue had a nice kick and the meat was very tender- definitely a must try! The dirty ramen was earthy, savory and spicy. Both were delicious! Would definitely come again- a casual, unassuming but homey noodle restaurant.

Good location near the T. Indoor and outdoor seating which is nice. The inside is small but it works. Service was pretty great even when they were busy. I had the karrage chicken app and the chicken katsu curry and both were great! The katsu bowl was large so no complaints!

Soup Shack Porter square is my family's go to for Ramen and Pho. The Pho noodle soup is as authentic as it can be for the Somerville/Cambridge area . The ramen is soup is too thick for my taste but the hubs and kiddo loves it . They've ordered the Tam Tam and the spicy miso and find it absolutely delish. Food taste consistent and the workers are super friendly . Price is fairly decent and not outrageous unlike other ramen spots . read more

I had this dilemma while eating here. I was seriously getting down with this bowl of ramen like no tomorrow when I thought to snap a photo for yelp. Doing that interrupt the steady stream of noodles with all the fixings literally pouring into my body. Eventually I took a breath and snapped a photo but I was 1/3 into this meal so sorry. I hadn't eating most of the day so I was out of control. Also I ordered chicken strips for some reason. Deceptively named for the tasty food that is available here! They have a variety of Asian soup dishes, e.g. pho, ramen, etc. The portion size was generous and the food was pretty tasty. There is quite limited seating and I don't think they take reservations, so I would recommend picking up or going during a down time with a smaller party. read more

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. We've gotten takeout and have dined in, and in both cases the food excellent. We have gotten the duck ramen, wonton ramen, dirty ramen, and chicken karaage... and always it's excellent. The ambiance is very simple but welcoming. The staff is also very nice. Terrible dining experience. We came into the restaurant and ordered at the front register expecting to be able to dine at one of the open tables. They made the order ToGo without asking and refused to let us dine in when the food came out. The order was always meant to be dine in but they never asked. The staff was aggressive in refusing us one of the many open tables even though it was their mistake for not asking in the first place. The food was only sub par. read more

I was craving ramen so I decided to check this place out. I think it's really cool that they serve pho, ramen, and thai noodles. I decided to order the tan tan men, which is just the tonkotsu ramen but spicy. It was delicious!! The broth was yummy, the cha-shu pork was soft, and I love the addition of bok choy. However, I wish they added an egg (but I know how expensive eggs are nowadays). The ramen also came out very quickly. The servers were nice. If I'm back in Porter one day, I'll definitely try the thai or pho noodles! Or maybe I'll try another ramen bowl. read more

BEST SOUP IN BOSTON As someone who grew up in Quincy (which is essentially a mini China town) I have high standards for Asian food. And oh my God go get yourself this soup. Man, this is not the JP version. No limes or basil or anything served with my pho. First sip of the broth of my Dac Biet was a mouthful of grease.and not the beautiful clean broth like at the JP restaurant. Noodles overcooked to mush. Won't go back but will gladly visit the restaurant in JP. Disappointing read more

This place offered us the easiest meal of our lives - a great option for families with young children! Everyone at our table (two adults, two children) inhaled their food at an embarrassing and impressive rate. We ordered off the "Sides" menu for the kids, and ordered two entrees for the adults (some ramen and some Thai noodle soup.) Everything was fresh, everything was delicious, everything exceeded our expectations. Also, the staff was terribly helpful, patient, efficient, and kind - our server walked me through the menu, gave great recommendations, and accommodated our endless requests for spicy mayo. I love this place! I usually order the pho, but my partner enjoys the Chicken Karange or Chicken Katsu Curry. I have very specific dietary restrictions (no onions, gluten free, etc). They've always dealt with it with kindness and concern. They have great options for those with IBS or on a LOWFODMAP diet. 10/10. Check them out! read more

This place is perfect to satisfy any cravings for pho you might have. Soup is richly flavored, a little salty but very good. Meat portion is generous and of good quality. Meh. Not terrible, not great. Decent portion, clean and friendly little spot. I got tan tan ramen....mainly because I liked that it had some greens in it. It was ok....broth was spicy but also oddly sweet. Pork slices were soft but flavorless - as if they'd been poached for a long time and very fatty. Ground pork in broth made for a weird texture. I ordered an egg and while it was cooked perfectly it was oddly flavored. I did not finish the bowl...and i am a clean plate kind of girl. If you aren't fussy and haven't had better it might be ok. read more

I got the spicy cha su bowl for takeout. A good meat to rice ratio and the pickled ginger helps to offset the fattiness and richness of the pork. It's definitely not very spicy, but overall it's filling and flavorful. Considering how much food you get, the price is decent as well. read more

I absolutely love this place. Since I first ate here a month or so ago I've eaten here at least two or three times every week. I've done all over the menu and everything I've had has been excellent. Nothing has disappointed which even in some of my long time favorite spots I can't say that. Excellent Thai and Vietnamese food with four main categories being Vietnamese pho, Thai Noodles Soup, Rice Bowls, and Ramen, plus appetizers. I've had all four food groups and they are flavorful, meaty, generous portions, well seasoned. The spicy dishes are spicy but they're not excessively so. There are condiments you can add to make it hotter if you want, plus they have hoisin sauce on the table as well which is nice. Until Soup Shack I have never been much a fan of ramen because most places I've had it has been something lacking, either the noodles are not seasoned well and tasteless or the meat of the stock is not quite right but that is definitely not the case here. Service has been quick, extremely warm and friendly and professional, not a combination I always find in Cambridge. Food comes out very quickly although I haven't been there during a big hit like the height of lunch time. I'm out of town for a couple weeks but I'll be back there as soon as I return. read more

On a wet, rainy Boston evening we thought hot ramen would be just the thing. The menu is built around locally-sourced ingredients structured in three categories: sharable, sushi, and ramen. They also offer a slate of Japanese beers and Nihonshu. We started with hot Nihonshu but the only choice served warm is Gekkeikan. Now, Gekkeikan is a standard Nihonshu which is a good, if not great, rice wine. And while Gekkeikan started in Kyoto, anything served in the US with its label is actually brewed in California. We wanted the Nambu Bijin served warm but were told that was not an option. Nanbu Bijin is a great varietal from Iwate Prefecture which was our preference. It's odd that this is only offered chilled. We really urge the management to serve all of its Nihonshu warmed. For shareables we ordered the shishito, spicy salmon, and torotaku. The shishito were nicely roasted and served with a light ponzu. The quality of the peppers was eceptional and the serving was generous. The sushi is served as a hand held wrapped in nori and features tsukemono. The spicy salmon was an amply portioned but the torotaku was a bit lean in terms of quantity. Having said which, all three apps were tasty and of superior quality. Bosso offers a compelling number of Ramens that differentiate not on broth, which is customary, but on degree of spice and the choice of meats. The broth here is a superb tonkotsu that would pass muster in Sapporo. Bosso also offers just one size which, in the event, was a more than satisfactory serving. We both opted for the umami version which is generously portioned with scallions and kikurage. The boiled egg was done to perfection - that happy place between a hard and soft boiled yolk. The pok was tasty but was wanting in terms of quantity. Each bowl included two very thin slices. At the end of the day, a great ramen should have more pork - either chasu or kakuni - so we found this to be a disappointment. Our server is from Shizuoka and we enjoyed hearing of her journey from Japan to Cambridge. She was attentive without being obtrusive. The interior is dark and practical and somewhat reminiscent of some of the great hole in the wall ramen shops we frequented in Tokyo. Overall, despite some blemishes, Bosso was an enjoyable meal and we will definitely make our way back in the future. It is busy so we recommend making reservations.
