The food is always great no matter what you get. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I would have given 5 stars, but... Beware, they charge a service fee of 3.5% regardless of payment type. And that fee is on the bill that includes tax. Cash payments will receive a 3.5% cash "discount". That's just balls. For that reason alone, I'll never order from here again. I walked into work one day to the smell of delicious burger. You know what that's like. It smells like heaven and you have to have it right then and there. Well my co-worker told me she got it at a place called Souper Fry. To Souper Fry we must go then! Souper Fry tends to cater to a younger demographic, mostly because it's located at the center of a few schools in the area. That being the case they have a great "Student Special" for high school students (which I think is awesome for them to do.) Because they have a lot of young customers though, I wouldn't recommend that you go there right after school hours if you're easily annoyed or want to sit down and eat. A burger place is really defined by how tasty they can make a burger. Souper Fry makes a pretty good burger, but I'm sorry to say that it's not at the level of a Shake Shack or a Smashburger. I think the saddest thing of all though is the bun they stick it between. It's a cheap bun with enough sesame seeds to cover your chinese take out 3x times over. What Souper Fry does do well though is options. They're not just a burger place; they have quesadillas, wraps, and the usual kids menu items. Along side of the fries (regular or sweet potato, but both overpriced) you can choose from a wide variety of great dipping sauces. I would def recommend the youth friendly Souper Fry if you are in the area, but if you're closer to a 5-Guys, Smashburger, or Shake Shack, go there. I am looking forward to a second visit. read more

I'm glad I went here twice. After my first visit, I was not as impressed as all of the reviews were reflecting I should have been. My first visit was with my dad, we both got burgers, I got the Hangover, and my dad created his own. We split a large fry as well, and my dad even tried the ham split pea soup. My second visit, I did not get a burger, and me and my sister got wraps. We both got the Sazini, which consists of chicken cutlet, mozz cheese, bacon, and 'roscoe' dressing. My sister (as usual) slightly changed it from the menu and asked for american cheese. We also got an order of fries. I'll start with the fries. They were not as mixed bag like the first time, but they were just 'good', nothing more. Now, the wraps, wow, fantastic. The wraps changed my opinion about this place completely. My boyfriends parents live in Merrick and we pass this place every time we go to visit. Finally, we stopped in. My boyfriend and I were grabbing something to-go. The place is on the smaller side, but with ample seating. It was also very clean. We put in our orders and then decided to take a walk down the block to grab some things from the grocery store. When we got back just a few minutes later our food was ready. So service was very efficient. I ordered the Kama wrappini, which has turkey breast, Brie, green apple slices, and honey mustard. I opted to get it with a small fry, for an extra $2. The small fry was enough to feed myself, my boyfriend, and my sister. My wrap was pretty amazing. I was full off of half. Fun and funky on the inside, known for their takeout sandwiches and fries. I opted for the Bad Ash the first time around which is a Vegetarian panini with portobello mushrooms. Disappointment isn't word. There were a few slices of portobellos, with only a little bit of tomato and was filled up with canned,flat tasting mushrooms on it. Ugh, It wasn't very appetizing at all. Ate half and learned my lesson -- or so I thought. I tried again, with high hopes and vigor, especially because everyone seems to just LOVE the food here. Again, I was the minority. Kama was the name, unimpressive deli style turkey wrap was the game. Tisk, another great idea with poor execution. Service was tepid, especially when we first walked in there and I was trying to figure out the menu. If you're not a regular OR a calhoon student -- you won't be greeted with the warmth mentioned in other reviews. Their saving grace was their fries. I got honey mustard and N'awlins Remoulade dipping sauces for the fries. This time the fries were pretty good. Not nearly as oily as the 1st time I went here. The sauces weren't bad. I've been coming here since high school; it's one of those places that I try to stop by at least once to grab some nostalgic food. Souper Fry has many options, but the best way to go is to pick up a grilled/toasted wrap and some fries with a dipping sauces. There are probably a dozen wraps and a dozen sauces, so prepare yourself for some deep contemplation. I haven't tried a wrap or a sauce that I did not like. The Sazini is considered a local favorite while there is less consensus over dipping sauces for fries. The only downside is that the food is souper greasy. They have about a dozen other variations, plus a pretty extensive wrap and sandwich menu, some of the best fresh cut sweet potato or regular fries you will have with an extremely eclectic selection of dipping sauces. My low rating is based on the following ... first of all, the place is nothing special. It could use a good sprucing up, and always just feels a bit dirty. Speaking of dirty, I also don't like how often I have looked & seen the people making my food not wearing gloves. Ick. But, it's not really a place you go for the ambiance. So, the appearance is what it is. My biggest gripe is the employees, and/or the owner. There is one younger kid who works there - he is always super pleasant. I am always happy when I walk in and see him behind the counter. Other than that, there is a whole lot of rude. Every other person I have encountered there is nothing less than. It was my first time there. I waited about 30 minutes to get my food, yet the servers had mysteriously served at least 5 customers who had come after me. When I got my food after the wait, it wasn't until Id gotten into the car and realized that they hadn't put the buns on my burger. 30 minutes of waiting and no buns!I couldn't believe my eyes. So, I went back and explained that they had forgotten the buns to which they seemed surprised. At this point, my burger is cold and the man working there took it back and I assumed he would throw it away and give me a new burger. But nope, he gave me the same cold burger back with some toasted buns. I took some ketchup packets with me, that I later realized mysteriously had dust and strands of hair on them. It made me sick when i realized what i was touching. Before Id noticed this and subsequently lost my appetite, I had taken a bite or the burger and the burger ended up tasting sub par. All in all, i spent nearly an hour in a restaurant only to recieve a cold burger and some ketchup packets that looked like someone had swept them up out of the trash. I suspect a few of them mayve fallen on the floor earlier, and they just put them right back into the communal ketchup bin to save money. I couldn't believe this. I used to be able to get a sazini combo with fries, dipping sauce and a can of Arizona for $10. I just got a sazini and fries today, no drink, for $14 and change!!! So i was watching the morning news today (news12) for my daily weather report when i saw a segment on this little mom & pop restaurant called Souper Fry. Honestly, they had me at "fry" but as i watched the chef load a wrap with cheese, breaded chicken cutlet, bacon & some kind of sauce before rolling it up and toasting in a panini press i began to drool and fantasize about having that sandwich for lunch. Later on in the morning i went online to explore the fascinating menu and followed up with a call to the restaurant to find out what the soups were. Now's the time to mention that I've been whining about the lack of quality, non commercialized and reasonably priced soup places in this area. Not $10 a cup. Hale n hearty are you listening? So fast forward to the ordering process. I work quite a ways from the restaurant so i decided to pre order online to make sure I could buzz down there, pick it up, buzz back and have enough time to shove the food into my yapper before returning to work. I ordered a Sazini for myself and a Juan Epstein for a coworker along with small orders of both regular and sweet fries. The process went flawlessly and when i got there, i saw the list of soups and was immediately entranced by the words "curry, corn, chicken soup". I mean who thinks up a combination like that ? Am i right ? So i asked for a small (reasonably priced, are you listening Hale n Heardy ?) Container. A member of the super friendly staff said ok and then asked me if i wanted to taste it. Inside my head I'm thinking "does a one legged duck swim in a circle?" So of course i say yes and recieve a yummy little taster cup of this chowdery liquid love potion. SOOOO GOOOD! The flavor combination was brilliant, the soup was hearty and addictively delicious. I truly hope to have the opportunity to eat that again and again. By the time the flavor euphoria of the soup sample began to wear off my food was bagged and sitting in front me. The truth is, it could have been there the whole time but i was so "in the zone" that i may have missed it. Lol Now for the sandwiches. My Sazini was pretty much on point. Personally i would have preferred it have a dash more sauce only because of the time lapse between preparation and enjoying. It would probably create the perfect moistness for a "to go" order. I imagine if i were to eat it right away it would have been absolutely perfect, but the taste was fabulous. And by the way, the smell made it nearly impossible to resist whipping that sucker out and pounding it down on the way back to work but im to protective of my car's interior. My coworkers sandwich would probably be described as the lovechild of a cubano and a classic Reuben. It looked awesome and he said it was really good. Kinda wish i had snuck a bite when he wasn't lookin. I should mention that I'm not a big fan of the fresh cut french fry. Color me an eighties child but i tend to prefer the crispy, twice fried & processed french fry over the soggier healthier fresh cut. When i saw the size of the bag i immediately thought it was a shame that i would likely just taste a few fries and toss the rest but as fate would have it, i really enjoyed them. Kudos to the chef. The garlic aioli was excellent as well. Very garlicky. So to sum it all up, im excited to slowly work my way through the menu in the coming weeks and im looking forward to seeing what other interesting combinations of flavor this talented chef will invent. Great combination of homemade tasting chicken cutlet mozzarella cheese crispy bacon and the Roscoe sauce,I like how they throw it on the grill for a little to give it the marks,Ordered some fries and they were pretty good I just felt they were a little greasy But I found myself finishing more than half the bag dipping in that delicious Roscoe sauce once again! Yes, they are back! We went the Friday night of their soft opening. We had to wait outside while they were "wrapping" things up inside and one of the guys brought out samples butternut squash soup while we stood in the cold. It was DELISH. once the doors opened the line outside became a line inside but it was well managed and the system was to order, then pay. The hype is real. I usually make modifications or make my own wrapini but during a soft opening I wasn't going to be that person, so I went with the standard sazini and it was bomb. Roscoe sauce on the side, and hopefully they bring back the Cajun dipping sauce too. Can't wait to try the new skool stuff! read more

Highly recommended by a friend's high schooler, so I checked it out. I couldn't believe we hadn't been there before- the menu looks great. Lot's of options for salads, soup, burgers, wraps, and fries with even more options for dipping sauces. I ordered the Jack Boone. When I first opened the container, I assumed they gave me the wrong order because whatever this was, was covered in refried beans. Turns out, I was wrong. The pork had turn to inedible mush with an awful flavor that reminded me of canned corned beef. But worse. I'm the type of woman that will drive 8 miles on her lunch break just to try a new place. Sometimes it turns out well and other times it doesn't. Sure there are more convenient options but I'm always thinking about "the lunch that could have been". Luckily this particular journey was not in vain. I had this place bookmarked on yelp for a few months. The reviews seemed positive so I wanted to check it out. It's a small place in it's own parking private lot with a few tables to eat. All the wrapini's, burgers, and quesedilla options are posted on the board in a bright array of colors. The decor has that New York City kind of appeal with murals on the walls and old train station signage despite being located in the suburbs of Merrick. I walked in and was greeted by John who I beleive may be the owner/manager. John seemed like a relatable guy with nicely sleeved up tats. He was chatting with some of the locals when I entered and the teens found his banter amusing. He was cordial and patient with me and my first time order. My order was ready within five minutes. I had The Minnewaska which is a wrapini with chicken cutlet, buffalo sauce, crumbled bleu cheese, & celery on a warm pressed wheat tortilla. I also ordered some of their hand cut fries to make it a combo and added on a Nawlins' remoulade dipping sauce. The wrapini was stuffed and toasted nicely. The chicken cutlet lightly breaded and chopped into cubes for ease of eating. All of the ingredients were proportionate to the wrap. The wrap was halved and stacked which resulted in a bit of sauce leaking out but the wrap maintained it's form through out consumption. The bleu cheese did a great job of adding some saltiness to compliment to heat of the buffalo sauce. The sauce itself wasn't too hot but definitely had that Frank's red hot flavor to it, but that's not an issue because I like Frank's. That being said you should probably have a drink nearby. After a few bites you will definitely be thirsty. The addition of the crunchy celery added a level of texture and coolness. The hand cut fries were great. Since they were hand cut a lot of the pieces were on the short side but there were lots of them. The fries were served in a brown paper bag which is a first for me but the brown bag actually did a good job of absorbing a lot of the grease which ended up being a positive thing. They do use a light dash of salt on the fries but they throw in some additional packets so you can season them according to your personal taste. The Nawlin's remoulade dipping sauce I ordered seemed home made. It had a nice kick to it and was a pleasant switch up from the usual ketchup. You can request to sample additional sauces for just 25 cents per container. The menu items appear to be named after his family and crew which is cool. The place has a casually urban vibe without trying too hard. The total for my meal was $9.50. It was well worth it and satisfying. They do accept credit card as well. Hanging out at Souper Fry having the greatest french fries they can remember every day after school. I couldnt help but wonder "Will these kids every really appreciate how good the food is?" The fries: are amazing. Crispy fresh cut and creamy in the middle. There are around 30 dipping sauces to choose from; I wish I lived across the street so I could try them all. They label themselves "Where Gourmet Meets the Streets." An accurate portrayal. These Calhoun kids are treated like princes and princesses, provided with remoulade, basil, aioli, wasabi and other dipping sauces, plus high level soups and pressed sandwiches.
