South Bay Aquatics has done wonders for both of my children! Miss Nelly has been my daughter's instructor for 3 years, since she was 18 months old! Over the past 3 years, Miss Nelly has helped my daughter become a safe and confident swimmer! My daughter absolutely loves her!

Is there a day pass to try out the ammenities?

I’m sorry, we don’t have day passes for the public but if you would like to come by we are happy to give you a tour of the facility.

Hi, how long are the session for toddlers? how do the instructors let the students know that class…

Each session is 30 minutes, the instructor is in the pool and very hand on with students. They will call for names in beginning of the class and let them know that class is over when time is up

There was a billing issue at the start of the year but the owner/manager worked with us immediately to resolve it so we opted to stay and I'm so glad we did! My daughter who is 6 enjoys her weekly sessions. I booked two classes back to back because it's just better for us for her to have longer times in the pool since we don't live close to this school. So far it has worked out great. I also like that the facility opened in September 2025 (which was when we first joined) so it's still new and things are still kept clean. I like that my daughter gets to swim with different instructors every now and then because I believe each one has their own techniques and way of swimming that might click for some kinds and not others. The only way to know is to actually try it! My daughter knows how to swim now but we still go here every week so that she can work on her form and technique. I anticipate this to be a multi year activity for my daughter. Cheers!

Ashanti has been such a blessing in making each lesson so meaningful and very productive. At times when our instructor is unavailable, the company automatically informs me by email way in advance and finds someone to cover our schedule. However, on days when we can't make it to our recurring lessons due to unforeseen circumstances, the cancellation process and scheduling our make-up lessons with different instructors at their portal has been such a smooth process. Besides Ashanti, our main instructor, all the other lady instructors has been such a huge support in helping my child grow and making gradual progress in all of our scheduled swimming lessons. They all have been very mindful of my child's sensory issues from the get go, which I'm so grateful for, and my child always looks forward to go swimming with them. It has been such a joy to finally found a company who's a perfect fit for my child's swimming needs. I've searched for many years, but couldn't find one either because of the long waitlist or they're just not funded by the regional center (traditional funding). This year, I got into SDP, and everything has been falling into place for all of my child's needs.=) Thank you Waterworks!!!

Unfortunately, our experience has been very disappointing. We're only five weeks into the program, and on two of those five weeks our assigned instructor either didn't show up or arrived late, forcing us to be rescheduled with another instructor. The most frustrating experience happened during our most recent lesson. We arrived on time for our 10:00 a.m. appointment, got my son ready, and waited. By 10:07 a.m., there was still no instructor, so we called the office. That's when we were told that his lesson had been changed at 9:54 a.m.--just six minutes before his scheduled start time, after we had already arrived and were waiting for his lesson to begin. Thankfully, they were able to find another instructor for him at 10:40 a.m., but my son still had to wait an additional 40 minutes. To make matters worse, when our original instructor arrived for her 10:40 lesson with another family, she walked right past us without offering any apology or even acknowledging us or my son. This wasn't the first time either. On previous occasions when she was late or absent, she also never apologized or acknowledged the inconvenience. I understand that scheduling issues and emergencies happen. What I don't understand is the complete lack of communication, accountability, and basic courtesy. Families invest their time, money, and trust in these lessons, especially when they're for children who rely on consistency and routine. A simple apology and better communication would have gone a long way. I hope management takes these concerns seriously so other families don't have the same experience we did. If other families are looking for lessons for their loved one, I would avoid this place.

This review will mostly be for their classes, and then a bit about the facility. The adult swim classes are organized by skill level: Total new swimmers are Guppies (that was me!), and the next levels up in order are Minnows (my second class!), Sharks, and Advanced Beginners. Advanced Beginners, really? Surely you can all think of another cool marine animal name! I vote Swordfish. You're welcome ;) Anyway, my Guppies instructor was Ashton and he was wonderful. He helped me get over my initial fear of putting my face in the water (believe me, it was a huge fear of mine and this was a HUGE deal), and he gave me the basic foundations for freestyle and backstroke swimming. After that class, I enjoyed it so much that I joined again, this time in the Minnows class under the instruction of Matt. Matt was also amazing! He took the skills I learned in Ashton's class and helped me and others fine-tune them. He also taught us more strokes like breaststroke, sidestroke, and dolphin kick. When I first set foot in this pool, I could barely blow bubbles in the water. By the end of two class sessions, I was swimming a good few laps nonstop. If you've ever thought about taking up swimming, I HIGHLY recommend taking the classes here. The prices are crazy good and the instructors are awesome! As for the facility, it's really great for an outdoor pool! Sure, you'll find a few stray foliage from the surrounding palm trees, maybe a dead bee once in a blue moon, but that's not entirely unusual for an outdoor pool. It's clear that they never let the pool get so dirty that it's uncomfortable to swim in it, and I really appreciate that. I live in a housing complex with an outdoor pool and our HOA doesn't do that, heh. The water is also very warm--I've gone swimming in below 60F weather and have been totally fine for the rest of the night. Anyway, this is a great solid pool and I'll be coming here for my swim workouts all the time. Another big shout out and thanks to Ashton and Matt, you guys are the best!

Review #845 2025-017…read more George Mannon Aquatic Center (aka Torrance Aquatic Center) opened on Saturday, 03/03/18 with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Enter on the driveway between Honda Service Center & Starbucks, the aquatic center is between Torrance Elementary School & Shery High School. Eric Trujillo, former North HS student & design committee member, designed the facility's logo; the "Shield Marquee" is displayed at the entrance. The $15M project was made possible by Bond Measure U funds (approved in 11/2014), so this state-of-the-art pool has been long awaited by the community; yeah, I voted for this, not knowing my LO will be using the aquatic center 7 years later. She made her high school's JV swim team in her freshman year for the 2024-2025 school year with swim season held between mid-02/2025 - mid-04/2025. It's awe-inspiring to watch her & teammates race in this beautiful facility! The aquatic center has a 60-meter Olympic size competition & warm-up pools (both partially heated by solar panels) with 10 competition & 12 warm-up lanes, 600-seat spectator bleachers, separate lockers for TUSD's 4 high schools (Torrance, North, South, & West HS), & visiting teams changing room. There are showers available, but I'm told they're not working. While designed to allow 2 sports to be played simultaneously, her school competition schedule has not calendared concurrent competitions. The District Aquatic Programs include both water polo & swim, but no diving, in this proper world-class competitive facility. Upon entering, the far left pool is for water polo & swim meets, with middle & right pools are for practices. I thought I saw lessons for the younger set, but I could be wrong? According to USA Swimming, Swim Torrance is a local swim club that uses GMAC for training. Her team's locker room is 1 of 2 schools that's next to the competition pool. Time pads are a bit wonky since it's been 6 years, so H relies on the volunteer timers to record her times/splits. I wished they thought of building a snack shack by the NE corner near the water fountains, instead of using tents & foldable tables to set-up the snack stand. It's extra time needed by the parent volunteers for set-up & tear-down. The parking lot ginormous & is used by the aquatic center & also the adjacent baseball field. No diamond (prime) spaces by the entrance, but the circular driveway makes it easy for drop-offs & pick-ups unless the driver just parks their car, blocking others. \(`0´)/ The spectator bleachers have shade structures, but coverage is limited in the later afternoon/when the sun is setting unless you're sitting in the top/back row. We have to give props to The Plunge for their youth swim lessons to get her where she is today.

There is overhead coverage for the seating, but if it's the wrong time of day, you'll definitely be getting blasted by the sun straight in your face. They also have nice meeting rooms where we tend to serve food to our athletes or hold team meetings.
