Our kids took private lessons here for close to year, and we've been very disappointed. Customer service is terrible. Showers smell like urine. Teachers are very hit or miss. The last teacher they paired us with consistently started our lessons late and ended them early. Tried talking to management but they were totally uninterested. Just started private swimming lessons for my daughter. Her swim instructor Nelly is quite patient, is taking incremental steps in teaching swimming basics and ensuring that my daughter doesn't become afraid of water. After each lesson, Nelly provides feedback and things to work on between lessons. The lessons are weekly, 30 minutes, and South Bay Aquatics bills monthly for lessons. They are very reasonable and if you miss a lesson, they have make up classes. The program is supported by a website which has the schedule and billing. The staff are very friendly, patient and accompanying. The facility has many different sized pools with different depths. Very well lit and clean. There are changing rooms in the facility as well. So far, we are very happy with South Bay Aquatics and recommend them for swimming lessons. read more

As a parent, finding a safe and welcoming place for your child to learn how to swim is a big deal, and overall South Bay Aquatics does many things right. The facility itself is very family-friendly. There's a designated area for changing babies, private showers, and clean restrooms, which any parent juggling wet kids, towels, and swim bags will appreciate. The staff are also very attentive and friendly. Many of the instructors appear to be high school or college-aged, but they are patient and do their best to create a positive experience for the kids. I first brought my son here when he was about 1.5 years old for the Baby & Me classes. These classes were more about getting babies comfortable in the water rather than formal swim instruction. There was a lot of splashing, playing, and helping the babies build familiarity with the pool environment, which I thought was great for early exposure. After about six months of attending the once-a-week classes, we took a break due to some life events. When we returned, my son was 3 and we enrolled him in private 1:1 lessons. My son absolutely loves the water, but he struggled at first with having a new instructor hold him and guide him through swimming exercises. It took about a month and a half before he was finally comfortable with the instructors. Each week he improved a little, though he would sometimes regress, which I know can be normal for young kids learning new skills. After about six months, he progressed to paddling with a board but still wasn't comfortable floating or diving yet. At that point, I decided to take him out again because it seemed like he might benefit from waiting until he's a bit older and more ready to adapt to the skills being taught. One area that could definitely be improved is the make-up and refund policy. There was a time when my son got sick and I had to reschedule a make-up class. However, since I ended up pulling him from the program and didn't foresee returning in the near future, I asked if the unused class could be refunded. Unfortunately, I was told the make-up class had to be used before the next monthly billing cycle and a refund wasn't an option. As a parent, situations like illness happen often, so a bit more flexibility in this area would be helpful. Overall, this is still a clean and well-run facility with caring instructors and a positive environment for kids learning to swim. Sometimes kids just need a little more time before they're ready, and when that time comes, we would consider giving it another try. read more

THE WORST EVER ! I PAID 3 MEMBERSHIP $450*3 FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO SCHEDULE A LANE ANY TIME WE WANT. If you can't fulfill all members needs then do not accept new members! So we have to split the one hour each time with 2 of 3 members in my family and sometimes if I'm lucky we can have a full lane then we split between 3 of us. This was confirmed with manager Ray and he was ok with it ! I was upset at one point but since my kid enjoys the pool and we worked it out I can make peace with it. Then out of nowhere there was another manager came when Ray was on vacation saying it's not allowed!!!???? So you guys just want people to pay money and not come??? If we can't get this resolved I will do whatever I can to get out of here with my refund!!!!!!! read more

Ok, so if I could review this place on our teacher alone it'd easily be 5 stars. Noah is amazing. Our freshly 4 year old daughter is one of those kids who loves water, hates getting water in her face & ears. Noah has been so absolutely patient, kind, and FUN! He figured out a way for her to ease her ears in (one at a time) which she tolerates way better than just getting her used to it through repetition of something she hates. I didn't realize how intimate it is teaching someone else's child to swim would be. My daughter and I fully trust Noah, and I love seeing them bobbing through the water together. The subtracted star is for 2 reasons. The main one, the class make up system sucks. I'm sure they have reasona for doing it the way they do, but it's the pits to have to constantly call and keep your fingers crossed that maybe there could be a class that will work out. The second is that my kiddo can't really learn to SWIM until she floats on her back and passes a test. Now this is safety and I get it, I just wish she could learn some kicking and whatnot too. Oh! It's also super great to be indoors and not have to apply sunscreen for a 30min jump in the pool. read more

I recently called South Bay Aquatics to inquire about swimming lessons for my grandkids, and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The girl who answered the phone, Anissa, was incredibly rude and unprofessional. She responded to my questions dismissively and seemed irritated that I was reaching out. As a potential customer, I expected courteous and helpful service, but instead, I was met with impatience and a lack of courtesy. it was ridiculous!!!!! It's a shame because I was interested, but this interaction has left a very negative impression. my experience has been amazing. my son is in the spectrum non verbal and it's hard to find any sports that are welcoming to kids in the spectrum. We've been very impressed with our child's swimming lessons - all because of Coash Jasmin. We followed Coach Jasmin here from another location because she has been such a great swimming instructor. She's very engaging with young children and teaches them the essential swimming skills. My child loves seeing Coach Jasmin and has passed several swim tests with her. Would highly recommend her to anyone who wants a swim instructor who is really dedicated to teaching your child and having fun at the same time. read more

The good: I like that there are tons of available classes. I came for a free trial in the baby and me class wjth my two kids and husband and enjoyed it enough to come back. You can pay $100 per month for once weekly classes or $25 per class. I liked that the price was the same for drop in classes and I wasn't obligated to get a package. The instructor we had was patient and nice. She was super good at memorizing everyone's names. The baby and me classes occur multiple times throughout the day and had around 8 couples. The aquatic center also has a recreational pool where you can buy membership to access for family swimming. There are tables where you can bring food to picnic too. The bad: I wish you were able to book classes online. You have to call to book a class. The mommy and me classes were the exact same both times I went with the same instructor, songs and lessons. I am unsure if it varies on occasion but this is a reason why many might want one on one lessons for a more tailored learning experience if you actually want your baby to start swimming. The shower areas are dark. I wish there was more lighting and I wish the stream of the shower were stronger. The interesting: There's a tropical theme in the lobby area. Toddlers are required to wear non-disposable swim diapers (even if they are potty trained). They sell them there as well. read more

I am an adult who never learns how to swim. I started at SafeSplash del amo, 1 year ago. They helped me learn to float freestyle and backstroke. But their lessons abruptly got cancelled due to some company shut down. I never learned how to properly swim in deep water, and I came here to refine my swimming skills. South Bay Acquatics helped me accomplish something I did not know was possible, and I am finally a very strong swimmer! I am planning to use my last few lessons to learn how to kick turn and to build endurance doing laps. They are a bit rough around the edges but they do help a lot. read more

I am completely disgusted by Marissa's behavior. My mom went to inquire about swim classes for my little brothers, and instead of receiving helpful information, she was met with rudeness and disrespect simply because she doesn't speak fluent English. To make matters worse, Marissa outright told my mom, "We only speak English." It's shocking that a place that claims to be family-friendly would treat people this way. Marissa's behavior was dismissive, rude, and outright racist -- and it's clear this place needs to do better. In today's world, there is no excuse for this kind of apathy and discrimination. If you answered yes, then you need to check out South Bay Aquatics! I enrolled my daughter to take swim classes when she was little and had a great experience. The swim instructors were very patient and kind. My daughter became my little swimmer! We ended up moving so we could no longer attend. However, fast forward, we moved closer to Torrance and my daughter kept asking to go back just to swim. Since we don't have a pool, I decided to get more information. When I arrived, I spoke with the manager Rei. I told him that my daughter took lessons here and she knows how to swim, but we just want to use the pool so she can swim whenever she wants. He said no problem and he went over the memberships very throughly. I had a lot of questions and he patiently answered each and every one of them with a smile on his face. I went ahead and signed up for a membership! My daughter comes frequently with her friends who are also members. It's fun to have play dates and let them swim while I work or catch up with the moms. You can bring snacks as well; this is important because they are always hungry after a swim. I'm so happy that my daughter found a safe and clean pool to swim at. Every time we come we are always greeted by the front staff and the manager Rei making us always feel welcome. Went in to the only indoor pool close to us with the boy that I nanny his mom told me to take him here. She just had a baby a month ago. She said this place looked great. It had a splash pad and a shallow pool perfect for her son I went in asking to just swim for two hours. We had driven 45 minutes and this little boy has very sensitive skin to sun and will blister! I asked if I could pay a guest fee or any fee to just swim here since I had already driven and taken time and had nowhere else to go. They completely disregarded me said there's nothing they could do even though I've worked at the gym and a pool before and we get free trials and day passes to people who don't necessarily read up online or have made a drive to us. This place is a borderline scam. They make booking makeup courses absurdly difficult and have 0 flexibility. most of the times you will get an instructor that is subpar, though there are some that are good. On the 15 min lessons they are often wasting time rather than teaching the kids as well. I have wasted thousands here over the years and highly regret it. They operate this way because there is little competition. Big Blue is opening nearby soon so I expect them to finally have some competition. read more

I think this is currently the only review like this, but I am an adult that never learned to swim as a child. For that reason, I was really apprehensive about finding a place that would be willing to teach me to swim, despite being surrounded by kids and kids reviews. I have recently completed my third private 30min lesson and I can say with confidence that South Bay Aquatics can help! Before signing up I sent over some quick questions via email that were responded to very quickly compared to other places I contacted. Then I signed up got got paired with Alexis. I was a bit nervous (and embarrassed) but she has been doing a great job teaching me techniques one step at a time and I can say that I already have the bare minimum basics down, its really now onto putting my freestyle together and mastering techniques (and remembering when to breathe, lol). I will give lots of credit to instructor Nelly too who subbed in for my 2nd class, and was also amazing. The 30min private lessons can definitely feel like a workout (which is probably good for me) so depending on what kind of shape you're in, the 15 minute ones might work well too. Anyway if you're an embarrassed/fearful adult that wants to learn how to swim, look no further! I did schedule my lessons to be during the week when most kids are at school and I think that helped me with the embarrassment factor too.
