First time in a while that I've been to Blur Bar. It's a gay club. Mostly a dance club. I never liked it because of long lines and cover charge. I went on a Sunday night last month only because Houston Eagle had awful Latin dance music. At Blur Bar, it started with half empty dance floor. In about 10 minutes, the dance floor started to fill up. By the time I started dancing, the dance floor started to fill up and there was no room for my shoulders. It was so packed and I had so much fun. It gave me some good fat burning minutes with dancing in Latin pop music. Yeah. People were looking at me weird and thinking, "what's this Asian old man doing in the Latin dance club?" Haha. I enjoyed Blur Bar and I'll be back. read more

I went to this club for my birthday and paid $60 to get in along with my other friends i was in there for about not even a full hour I bought a drink from the bar and went back for seconds the second time they stopped me and said I was underage? I didn't have a wrist band .. they didn't give me a wrist band! I am over the age of 21. My personal experience was good but my friend had their phone stolen (along with 2 others the same night) right out their pockets/purses. the handful of times ive come here are only because my partner's sibling is not 21 yet. so if you're 18-20 and desperate to have a fun night out, this club isn't terrible. however, the service is hit or miss. some nights, it's okay; others, it's terrible. the people the club draws in though- not so great. people have no boundaries and are straight up disrespectful, and there have been instances where straight men predatorily look for targets in the packed crowd (considering again, it is 18+). cleanliness isn't great either- drinks are spilled all across the floor (which often is caused by assholes who just toss their drink or shove through) personally think south beach down the street or pearl have better vibes- never had an issue at either in terms of service or even other club-goers. bathrooms and the overall venue are much cleaner and well kept. mind you- there are assholes everywhere; ive just encountered significantly less at south beach and other clubs in the montrose area. read more

My brother was attacked here tonight and was not helped at all. My brother told multiple people and no one did nothing. The staff was unhelpful and told him to go away. Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had at a bar and will never be returning back. One of my friends wanted to go to blur just to reminisce on how we use to when we did when we were 18. Practically no one else in our group wanted to go cause they said the bouncers are always rude or if you turn down their flirting they will "ban " you. I didn't think much of it since I haven't been there since being 18 and had a great time then. Welp I was wrong. After waiting in line with my group of 6, the guy checks all our IDs mind you we are all 23+ so it couldn't be an age thing. We get to the next bouncer that opens the door and he was so rude. He randomly pointed me out and was like she isn't going in. We were so confused and he just kept asking my group over and over how many were in my group insinuating our number was wrong. Because they were including me in it and he was waiting for them to not include me. They kept asking why was I not aloud and he would not say. Idk if I had RBF while waiting in line or what, that's just my face LOL. I'm just trying to think of what could of been some random reason he wouldn't let me in. I was here from out of town. I was having a great time until a random person punched me in the head from behind Several times for no reason. Security was nowhere to be found. I was forced to defend myself and then got kicked out. This place is not safe at all!! Terrible place. I was kicked out and assaulted by 3 of the guys that work there over a cup of water. I paid for the water from the bartender and they instantly came and shoved and pushed me hard as hell over it. There was no questions they just came right up and started pushing me and my friends out and by the way , they are very weak ! I've been going here for quite some time blursdays (Thursday) free admission is the best it has gotten even more packed over the years. It's great if your 18-23 I feel because everyone is eager to meet new people and everything I do like this place better then what use to be bayou I do warn you if your using a card to pay take a picture of every transaction because I've known people to have double charges on their card. It had been several years since I had been to Blur Bar, and it has changed. Blur Bar used to be known for being the Hip-Hop/Rap bar the GLBT community would flock to. After visiting the place this past weekend, the clientele has definitely changed. It feels more of a Dance/House club now. They remodeled the place and added additional stages where people can climb up and look trashy. It was nice! The thing I absolutely hate about Blur though is the disgusting tiny restrooms they have. Clearly the history of reviews on this place speaks for itself. This is a sorry excuse for a club and the people that work here make it even worse. I would like to start off by saying I am not the type of person that bothers to write reviews, whether they are good or bad, but the experience/interaction I had on Saturday day night was absolutely unacceptable and beyond disappointing to the point of disgust. My boyfriend and I rarely go out, and when we do we like to be around free-spirited people. We decided to pay cash for our 16 dollar entry and when we got to the inside where the so called "boss" was we gave her 15 dollars in cash and a dollar in quarters. ONE. FREAKING. DOLLAR. She threw the change down and my boyfriend still took out his card to pay. So as he is getting in our ride I go up to another guy and kindly... VERY KINDLY say that I understand they are very busy, but what is up with the lady in the desk at the entrance. Of course why should I be surprised when this guy is also rude and says while laughing "I heard you guys tried to pay in change. Who pays with change? haha" and literally turns his huge back to me. ANY EFFING AMERICAN THAT ONLY IS MISSING ONE DOLLAR AND HAPPENS TO HAVE IT IN CHANGE LIKE WTF. His tone was also very condescending and it's actually very unsettling to know that this is how people who work here are. We weren't being disruptive or rude or chaotic in any way shape or form..at all. I just find it funny that if this were them, they would feel very embarrassed and disappointed if someone treated them how they treated us. I have worked in clubs, and restaurants and everywhere you could think of and not one of those places has ever been so rude to a customer as the people here were to us - another paying customer that is just trying to enjoy a rare night out. I discovered myself in this place... I remember walking in for the first time 2 years ago feeling awkward and shy, not comfortable with myself, unable to let loose and dance... Then I kept going and going, and before you know it, I'm on the dance floor dancing my ass off, having fun with my friends, talking to people, and being normal! This place built up my confidence, I've experienced so many things in this place, I've met so many people in this place. Is it trashy? Yes. Is it dirty? Yes. Is it fun? HELL YES! The drinks are strong, the music is amazing, the remixes are great! Only thing that bothers me a little is the staff, they're not too friendly but I understand that dealing with a young clientele isn't fun and it's a lot of responsibility. 4 Stars! read more

Had a fantastic time at blur. We met the owner I believe and he got my a shoutout for my bday. Definitely went too early so it was dead at first but it picked up around 12 and we had a good time. Great music. A lot of classic popular songs everyone knows. Never felt unsafe. They had a nice outside patio area to get a breather and some booths. Lots of good vibes for pictures and bar was good. I haven't been here in a really long time and part of the reason I stopped going was b/c of the line to get in. Typically, I like the music here b/c it's pop/R&B and caters to an urban crowd. As mentioned by previous Yelpers, the crowd is a bit young but, I guess that's just the club scene. There is a SUPER rude, chain-smoking Door Nazi working the front door on SATs. She is a huge deterrent for me and she talks crazy to some clubgoers, knowing that she has the power to put people out if they cause a problem. The club has your typical dark features, mainly to hide the lackluster decor. There are three bars: one near the front door, one awkwardly positioned near the dancefloor and one upstairs. The bathrooms are very small, cramped and are in definite need of an upgrade. For example, the bathroom upstairs is literally the size of a walk-in closet. There are several outdoor patios with disappointing appointments, including a broken water feature. Typically, the cover is free till like 1030 or 11 and I usually tried to get in line here so I could clubhop a bit. The "guardog" at the front door will typically go AS SLOW AS POSSIBLE to let as few people in for free. In approximately 30 minutes, there are about 5 groups of 5 let in. I mean, how hard is it to literally check an ID and put a bracelet on a person? The "VIPs" in line are motioned over and they are let in ahead of people have patiently waited in line, typically in high humidity/heat or blustery temps. I think that management should stop being cheap and let people in and understand that they will make their money back in drinks. Truth be told, there are no cover bars in every direction and there is nothing special about the crowd, decor, drinks, amenities, bathrooms, management or clientele that would make me want to pay for this place. For those out-of-towners reading this review, proceed with caution. If you are local, just try another bar. read more

Visiting Houston for the weekend so me and my girls wanted to go out. Blur was recommended to us by a few locals. We enjoyed our time more towards the end of the night when they played music more suited to us. We still enjoyed the Hispanic and techno music played toward the beginning of the night. They are 18+ and they put Xs on both hands. They check your ID, but don't scan them. You will need a wristband to get drinks which is obtained by being 21+. Cover on Friday night when we went was $12 because we're 18/19. There was no cover for 21+ I don't believe. Fun gay bar atmosphere for sure. Would definitely come back, but probably later in the night when it got busier like around 12:15-12:30ish. If you're scared of Covid, don't come here because just about no one wears a mask. Remember "Sliders?" In 1995, Jerry O'connell starred in this TV series where he finds a gateway to another dimension(s), but forgets how to get back. The show basically revolved around each alternate reality as he tried to return to the "real" one. On Halloween 2009, I experienced this same phenomenon. In my alternate universe, I waited in line and paid cover at Ei8ht lounge on Washington, but at Blur (on Montrose) was given the VIP treatment , skipped the mob line, and was waived the $20 cover. Jerry O'connell would've been jealous. Blur was our final stop during Halloween '09. Driving through the area, we could see that even at 1am, the SoBe/Blur/Montrose general vicinity was in full mayhem mode and we were ready to partake in the festivities! After walking a short block or two, we came up to the supposed bldg. There was no signage at the door, and I had to ask one of the people in the very long line if this, indeed, was Blur (as two other bars peppered the street). Judging by the line, we immediately knew it would be good...we just didn't know HOW good. Shortly after arriving at the estimated 20-deep line, a friend popped out of the front door with a man dressed as a Unicorn, and lo and behold, we were whisked from the back of the line and quickly into the doors. No fuss, no muss, and best of all, no cover! Inside, I was surprised by the amount of (hot) bodies grinding on the dance floor. It was like witnessing a Kylie Minogue/ Madonna/ Britney concert, with characters/fans dressed to the nines. It was packed wall-to-wall, with several dancers on top of the main floor bars. We originally parked our group at the side bar, with our own personal nook/cranny, but halfway through the night, moved to the upstairs patio for some breathing room. One can only take so much body glitter, sweat, and alcohol before needing personal space, and the patio provided great respite. Thank you, Unicorn, for a great Halloween! I've been here the past few Wednesdays (ladies' night so no cover) and I must say the crowd is getting better. Blur is a relatively new club, although the venue is not. The place used to be called "O" but I don't ever remember it being as fun as it is now. Maybe it's the girl go-go dancers on top of the main bar downstairs. Maybe it's the nice mix of hip-hop and techno and those damn line-dancing songs when the crowd is at that right level of drunkenness. Maybe it's because I have enough room to walk it out at the downstairs patio, the upstairs balcony, the first and second level lounge areas, and even the dance floor itself. Maybe. This place brought my Wednesdays back to life. Any downfalls? Be prepared for the long lines at the unisex bathrooms. Watch out for the undercover bouncers (you and your friends will get thrown out for being too drunk. Yes, I speak from experience.) And get there early to find optimal parking.
