Did I mention Craft Kombucha? Yup, all the favorites of the urban South Block Juice Company are now available in Fairfax County at what was just Jammin Java. I call it the best of symbiotic relationships (or true mutualism) as Jammin Java has a steady and loyal crowd of music listeners, while South Block has the fresh appeal with varied degrees of fitness junkie, earth conscience, respect all humankind, but I don't want to ever grow old crowd! I was impressed at how well Jammin Java and South Block brought together a cohesive and warm space. Everything just flowed to include the door and window appliques. Espresso machines next to blenders and baristas wearing Kale shirts served dual duty with ease. I did notice small differences like no HealthNut (my favorite), one cup size (no large) and the juices were in an open air refrigerator waist high versus the super tall glass door refrigerators in Clarendon and Westmoreland locations. No true show stoppers. The gent at the register even offered to make a modified HealthNut but I opted to try Purple (honoring my MN Viking roots). Although I liked Purple, it just couldn't compare to my HealthNut. I still need to try the Holiday Cookie bowl, the sign still has me imagining the taste as I type this review. If you get overwhelmed by the choices, just ask the juicer/smoothie/baristas or even the person behind you in line... seriously, you can't go wrong. read more

Love love love acai bowls, so glad I was able to find a place in northern virginia that has them (first discovered the deliciousness in LA across the country)! Place is so trendy and cute, the people working there were so nice and friendly. Ended up trying the PBJ bowl, you definitely cannot go wrong especially all you peanut butter lovers out there (you can also substitute the pb for almond butter if you wish). Also tried the iced green matcha tea latte - not sweet at all which I liked but have had better. This place is a little bit pricey at about $9 for each of their bowls but well worth every penny. Healthy and yummy, cannot complain! A perfect treat for those who want to treat themselves yet stay on track with a good diet. Cannot wait to be back! Next time I am hoping to try their coffees as well as their juices! read more

South block can do no wrong! As always the smoothies and bowls are great. However, this is my least favorite location. This location is dark, grungy and artsy and the employees are extremely slow. I order 15 minutes before I arrive and still have to wait a few minutes for my order to be ready. I could understand if they were extremely busy but I never see more than 1 or 2 people in store. Arlington and Alexandria are able to get my order out in 5 minutes with a lot more customers so I'm not sure why they are so slow here. The food itself is great, I just prefer the Alexandria location. I'll continue to visit as this is the closest location to my job. I recommend the golden milk bowl or the health nut smoothie. Only cards are accepted and there is plenty of parking available. I suggest ordering from the app ahead of time if you are in a hurry. read more

TL;DR: Fresh Acai Bowls make for a happy tummy. South Block is a great place is if you want fresh acai bowls with some pretty fresh ingredients. Located along with Jammin' Java, South Block sells smoothies, acai bowls, as well as java and tea. Acai is a type of Portuguese fruit and when it is separated from the seeds, it is blended with other types of fruit depending on which type of acai bowl you get. For our first visit, we went with the Warrior Bowl (with blended organic acai, bananas, strawberry, and pineapple juice with granola, strawberries, blueberries, and bananas toppings) and the PBJ Bowl (with blended organic acai, peanut butter, bananas, blueberries, and almond milk with granola, blueberries, and bananas toppings). Each are $9. The Warrior Bowl had a great blend of flavors and the PBJ bowl had a nice hint of peanut butter in the blended section. We were left satisfied but not full. Will definitely be back to try the other bowls and smoothies, too. A quick note about parking; it shares the lot with many other stores, with Walgreens right next store. You're probably better off parking in that lot instead, since the real estate for parking in the Jammin' Java lot is at a premium. read more

Literally head over heels for this. If you're an açaí bowl lover, you need to come here! But be aware, they close at 4pm! So go early! The warrior bowl is the best! Add almond butter as a topping and BAM! You may just end up crying about how damn good it is. I used to be a frequent visitor of "yourjuicery" in Oakton but was sad when they closed. But after months and months of sadness and desperation to find another açaí bowl place, I found SOUTH BLOCK!!! I was afraid at first that the bowls would be small or wouldn't be up to my standards. But I was pleasantly surprised. The bowls are actually enough for me to eat for breakfast and a little snack for later. (Not gonna lie, great for dinner too as I am eating it now) I kept the bowl in my car for an hour and it was still just as good and fully intact when I was ready to eat. The staff are all very friendly. Constantly smiling and making recommendations for new customers. Today I learned they have a rewards program too. Just add your phone number! So that's really fun. Especially since I see myself coming here during my lunch break. Price point wise, they are the same as other places I have been. So no surprise there. This little place shares a building with Jammin Java (really it's the front of the store). I ordered the warrior bowl and swapped out the blueberries for more strawberries. The bowl was extremely tasty and came out quickly (under 8 mins). I granola, strawberries, and banana were all fresh and the açaí mix was just right. The place was full of people on the Sunday before Memorial Day and still did not wait long. I think this place is going to become a weekend staple for me! read more

South Block is located in Jammin' Java. It's best known for its açaí bowls but I ordered a smoothie. The smoothie options were mostly green smoothies, with a few açaí smoothies. I'm traditional when it comes to smoothies so I ordered one of the 3 sweet smoothies from the menu - the strawberry colata. The strongest flavor was strawberry, but there are tiny pieces of coconut for the colata aspect. It was yummy and I appreciate this healthy option at a concert. But admittedly, $8 for a small ish sized smoothie is a bit steep if you don't factor in that you're at a concert venue. (There are 4 or 5 tables if you want to eat at South Block but not attend a concert at Jammin' Java.) read more

I frequent south block very regularly. LOVE this place!! Their açaí bowls are a good size and pretty filling. The killer bee bowl is hands down my favorite bowl. The bee pollen adds SO much flavor. Their fruit is always fresh and every time I go my açaí bowls are always consistent. They have extra toppings available for you to add such as honey, agave, and chia seeds if you would like. They also have a loyalty program which is a great perk. I would recommend south block to everyone! I had been to other South Block locations but this was my first time at the new Vienna one. The inside is bright, spacious and modern and they also have some outdoor dining available in the front. The staff was friendly and my smoothie bowl only took 5 minutes to make despite there being a lot of customers. I ordered the almond butter bowl which was delicious and filling (it was a little pricey but the portions are large and they use quality ingredients). I had no idea what Açaí was for the longest time. I was hesitant to try it, thinking it would be one of those things people just eat because it's cool and not because it's actually anything of substance, taste-wise. My coworker told me about this place and I was skeptical/scared at first but decided to go. South Block is a small place, and it shares its space with what appears to be a venue for musical events? Unclear. In any case, I was there for the Açaí and decided to try it for the first time. I got the Peanut Butter Açaí bowl which just blew me away. First, it was beautifully well blended- seamless mix of peanut butter and Açaí but with the Açaí color. The toppings of strawberries and bananas and granola were fresh. The bow was also HUGE. I was definitely not expecting that to replace a meal but it kept me full the entire day. I can now safely say that I've had good Açaí! Or so everyone tells me. I've been to this location several times, and I have to say that the overall experience (food+coffee) was consistent. My favorite acai bowl to get is the Warrior Bowl--made up of blueberries, bananas, strawberries, nuts, and acai. It's delicious and fresh even in the winter time when those fruits aren't really in season. There is an open seating area with wood tables/benches, so it's not exactly the most ideal spot for studying or sitting for a long time. However, the free Wi-Fi and the hip atmosphere encourage some time and a quaint space to munch on bites of your acai bowl. It usually doesn't get too crowded, so I would highly suggest stopping by here if you're just interested in grabbing a quick bite to eat. read more

South Block is one of my favorite places to grab a quick and light lunch in Vienna. My two favorite bowls are the California and the Aqua, and both taste amazing with some almond butter added in. And their granola is AMAZING. The smoothies are also great. It's a bit pricy, but I don't mind it because I always know that what I'm going to get is super fresh and delicious. My only issue I've noticed recently, is that the portions are not consistent. Using their plastic take-out containers as reference, sometimes I order a smoothie bowl and it's chuck full with smoothie and granola and fruits, which is always amazing. But there are other times where I actually wonder why I paid 11 bucks and left a tip for a container just about half full, barely worth it. I'm so thankful to have my smoothie bowl, but it can be a bit of a downer when one day, your container is filled up, and another, it's barely at the halfway point. I know I'm not one to give advice, but it would be really great for management to regulate how much goes into each container instead of the amount varying all the time. That way, your customers always know what to expect. That being said, I'll still continue to come here, but I just hope our comments are taken into consideration. read more

Great parking though!) my favorite items are the mermaid bowl and the warrior bowl. I love the app for ordering online- I can grab a smoothie or bowl and enjoy it wherever. I usually don't get the granola (not my favorite), and usually add a top instead (which are around $1 extra). Yes, the place is pricey. However, I enjoy my bowl every time. Definitely stop by! I love love love South Block, and was super thrilled when one was put into Jammin Java so close to my house. The entirety of my summer was spent running to SB after yoga to grab one of their delicious Acai Warrior Bowls, and the people making the bowls were so kind and allowed me to switch out certain fruit toppings for ones I liked more. I left for school, and was so sad to find out that the acai bowls at UD are nothing like South Block's, so I was so excited to come back home and eat a ton of them over break. read more

Really excited about the new location next to Chipotle and longer hours! We had dinner there last night and it was amazing! My kids each had a mini bowl, I had one of their green shakes and my husband had a PB&J. We added some protein. It was delicious, fast and healthy. We enjoyed it on the patio which has a few tables spread apart enough that we were comfortable. I was super excited to try this place!! I've heard amazing things about South Block! BUT I was super disappointed after ordering! I got the Avocado and Toast , First off they DONT USE FRESH AVOCADO (subway,potbellys, etc. use fresh avocado yet a place who promotes healthy lifestyle doesn't???) they use a spread they make the night prior! My avocado was brown and disgusting!!! TOAST WAS BURNT!! I also order a super green smoothie. It took them 10 minutes to make even though i was the only one there. The staff was just goofing around talking and they kept taking off their masks. I was very disappointed with the customer service and products especially for vienna!
