I am in shock after 15 years of being a client, that this practice would actually put policies above my cat's life. After moving out of the area and having trouble finding a new vet my cat's life saving thyroid medication script needs a refill - and they refuse to even write one for a small amount!!! My cat can die without this daily medication. The practice claims it is "against the law" to give my cat another prescription. Really? Isn't there a law against willfully denying lifesaving medication that will cause a cat's death??? How far this practice has fallen since Dr Hunton's ownership! She would have saved my cat's life. Period. Do yourself a favor if you love your animals and NEVER take them to South Branch Veterinarians. If given a choice this practice would rather harm or watch your pet die rather than do the right thing. read more

I have been with South Branch for over 5 years. They were pretty decent back then. Not sure what changed over the past 2 years. My male German Shepherd was brought in for Neutering last Thursday. A few of days after his procedure, on Sunday evening, he showed signs of swelling and infection in the affected area. We continued to monitor him through the night, following post op instructions. Monday morning, 8:00 AM I called the office concerned and spoke with a receptionist, I think. She told me to send photos which I did immediately. I was told not to bring him because schedules were booked. We were told put warm compresses for 10 minutes at a time to see if there was any improvement. Later that afternoon it was clear that he was getting worse, and the infection was significant enough for an urgent office visit. I called and insisted that he be seen and was told "NO" and the doctor was just to busy to speak with me. I insisted on speaking with the Doctor or just driving him over and eventually was put on the phone with her who informed me that the schedule was booked for the day with only one vet on site who was leaving early. With seven doctors on their roster. How is it possible that no one could examine him? How is it possible that there is only one doctor at this busy practice on such a busy day? I was told that if I thought he had an infection, bring him to an emergency vet. Because I complained to the receptionist, I received a call from the owner the next morning instructing me to move both my dogs somewhere else...while my post op dog is suffering from this secondary infection. Then she called me again the next day and told me to remove the name of the Vet that I spoke with (who also treated him during his procedure) from this review. read more

Our dog safer from immune disease. She has allergies to almost everything. One year we almost lost her after rabies vaccine. After vet hospital treatment, stays, 3 veterinaries, and thousands of dollars spent to save our dog. Dog didn't eat for 10 days and was shaking. After visit to South Branch Veterinary, they told us nothing they can do. Dog received vaccine. What was in the vaccine? We took dog to the vet upstate NY 4 hours drive from us. After 10 days like that, she spent the whole day at the hospital. They told us who ever gave vaccine they should have known not to give vaccine to dog with immune disease. From that moment Dr. Rachell at South Branch Veterinary was giving us rabies vaccine exemption every year. Dr. Rachell left South Branch Veterinary. The new vet/owner at the South Branch Veterinary refused to give rabies vaccine exemption. We were furious. After all the money, after all that we went through they refuse to give us exemption. They absolutely didn't care. Told us to go somewhere else for vaccine exemption. Stuff is very friendly, but new veterinaries/owners are absolutely horrible. read more

I changed vets for the same reason as the previous poster Kelly S. The front reception woman is hard to deal with. I brought in my dog that had the same symptoms that she had a year ago, struvite crystals in her urine. I brought her in for an exam, the vet was thoughtful and thorough. She put her on antibiotics and told me that if things got worse that I might want to consider an ultrasound and to get a urine sample directly from her bladder. I told her that I had good results from prescription canned Eukanuba Urinary canine formula last year (prescribed by my previous vet) So, we go with a wait and see with the antibiotics. Fast forward through the series of antibiotics and she is still showing some signs of frequent peeing, so I call and ask if I can get a script for the prescription dog food. The front reception woman tells me I need to come in for a ultrasound and a urine collection directly from the bladder. I told her that this felt a bit invasive and expensive and was hoping we can try the prescription dog food first. She replied very sarcastically "Your dog isn't going to get cured with dog food." She would not discuss any other option other than having her get a ultrasound and cystocentesis. We were at a standstill. I would have preferred have an actual vet call me back and discuss options, but the receptionist seems to want to analyze the records herself and make her own assessments on the course of action to take. Ultimately, I switched to another vet and in the end she showed no signs of crystals, so I am very glad I did not go through with all that invasive and expensive treatments for nothing. Bottom line, the vet I worked with was wonderful, but the front desk girl is rude and crosses the line with her own analysis and decisions with patients records. read more

As a semi-rule of thumb, it takes a REALLY bad experience for me to go to Yelp to vent but I have had one too many "no can do" attitudes from the receptionist here. I hung up on her for the second time in my 10+ years of being a SBVS patient (twice too many) while trying to set up an ultrasound and follow up CBC blood work appointment for a cat they have seen many, many times at the behest of my specialist vet who I found after being told by SBVS "to try wholistic vet, we really can't do anything else". Gizmo does have some chronic issues that might now be curable but I expect SBVS to work with my specialist and I in a proactive way since she is young and I have only been treating her for one year. I'm a patient, reasonable, calm, positive client but I expect to be met with an intention to HELP me through information gathering, teamwork and "let's take a look" attitude, rather than a dismissive tone coupled with reactionary, negative feedback about the prognosis of my pet BEFORE even seeing us. Whoever that was answering the phone, get rid of her. She's losing your clients. But now that I think of it, I don't think my business or my pet is valued by this service and will not be returning, for anything. read more

Awesome staff and care at South Branch Vet! We had a really rough experience trying to take our puppy to get spayed at a more local vet hospital where we felt too uncomfortable to actually go through with their services, and it left us feeling so worried and nervous the spay surgery in general. The staff at South Branch couldn't have been more wonderful though. From the help they provided over the phone when getting us scheduled and answering our questions, to how nice they were to both us and our puppy Lucy when we brought her in, we're so happy that we went to them for the procedure! We could tell that Lucy was so well taken care of by them. We traveled a bit and opted to get her spayed here because they participate in a low-cost spay/neuter program that the rescue agency told us about, but I really wish we lived a little bit closer so that we could take our puppy and cat here regularly for any vet needs. Totally recommend them to anyone looking for a vet! read more

Absolutely Horrible! Took my cat there for full check up because she was acting a bit down in August. She was sooo good! but, they insisted on taking her in the back room for blood work. Took her outa the room in place I could not access for 40 min!!! I walked in back and peered through the doors and there were so many cats and Dogs back there. It must have been upsetting... I had insisted on an x ray too but they said she would have to be sedated for... wtf? Then they said let's see what the bloodwork says... They didn't even feel her body or look at her teeth while we were still in the room... and again she was being sooo good. Over $500!!! They then called me and explained in great detail that she had kidney disease as per bloodwork. I put her on prescription food. Fast foreard when she staring acting ill in Jan. 4 vets including 2 specialists from the awesome Crown Vets looked at all bloodwork and said she did not have and never had any kidney disease ever at all!!! the x ray showed a tumor in colon. It could be felt from exam and visible on the x ray. but by that time spread to lungs. Sourh Branch did not give her the thorough exam I requested and paid for, nailed me over 500 for... and totally mis diagnosed! These people are horrible people! Had they only given her a basic exam!!!??? and did the x ray as I asked specifically for. She may be alive today. These quake killed my Cali. read more

South Branch provides exceptional service and a clean and calming environment for your pets. I cannot recommend Dr. Pope and the rest of the staff enough. They are compassionate, patient, and professional. My cat has been getting his yearly check ups here for the last few years but just last week, I brought in my cat because he did not look well. After a quick diagnosis and four days of treatments, he is already getting better and I have no doubt in my mind that South Branch saved his life. I am not one to write reviews, but I wanted to recommend South Branch to anyone that is looking for a new vet. I hope to bring Loki here for his regular check ups for years to come! read more

I have been taking my dog to this vet for his entire life, he's 7, and the service has usually been good. However, every time i try to buy him something on line they use that as leverage to make me bring him in for something. I ordered him heartworm medicine last week. The on-line service called me and said they refused to fill the prescription until I brought him in for a test. I am uncomfortable with going to any place that is not necessary at this time and I would have hoped that the vets would understand that and allow the purchase to go through. They offered to approve a shorter supply which would increase the price significantly. I did not understand the difference. I have always brought him in for check-ups and shots every year. This is grossly unnecessary risk to my dog and myself. I am disgusted read more

Dr Pope is just fantastic! One of my dogs passed a few months ago after battling kidney disease and the care they gave her throughout her progression was fantastic. She didn't mind going to spend time with them when she wasn't feeling well. Now our other 2 dogs will get to experience that care! read more

Terrible experience. I've been a customer for many years. I was late on one payment for tests run on my dog which was 100% my fault as I worked with my insurance, which I later paid in full. As a result they stated that they "no longer wish to continue their client-patient relationship" with me. That's fine and that's Dr. Hunton's prerogative if that's what she desired. But what really angered me was she avoided all contact and conversation with me to the point where she had her assistant Ashley call me to say: "Dr. Hunton is sticking with the no service order and she will not be calling to speak with you." I find the whole experience extremely unprofessional and it leaves me frustrated with a boxer dying of cancer and having to urgently find a new vet to get the prescription food she needs. If she answered my calls and messages weeks ago, this all could have been settled. I will never be back and encourage everyone to find a more friendly veterinarian that is willing to at least answer a phone call. read more

This facility is really fantastic. No long waits for appointments. Very kind vet techs. The doctors are kind and compassionate and it's evident that they love their jobs by the way they make your dogs/cats/etc feel at ease. Facility is sparkling clean, new, updated. And they give you a credit card like thing with a picture of your dog with his name/age/address/shots/wt/etc for you to keep in your wallet. Such a good idea. The staff at South Branch are top rate. They take time to explain each and every option. Never pushy, but not price conscious off the bat. You have to ask a lot of questions about alternatives, but they will happily review details of everything.
