This review is mainly for their preschool gymnastics class. Been coming here for few months once a week and for the pre school class it's a hit or miss. The instructors are mostly young high school/college kids who are part of the team here. Ratio varies so much. 2 instructors for 9-15 students. It's an hour class and first 15min is stretching with lots of in between breaks. My 3yo do have fun but it's very much loose structured. There are plenty of times my lil one is just standing around. if you're looking for something more hands on and they'll actually develop skill set I'll go somewhere else. But it's great as an open play area time which you can find many other places read more

To be fair, If your child is serious about gymnastic, it may be worth putting up with this place. The instructors are fine. The customer service deserves a 1 rating. Can never get to anyone on the phone. You are allowed to schedule a make-up class but you are locked in -- in other words, they are not flexible. If you miss a class today and you schedule that make-up class a month from now and the next day you ask them to change it because something came up, they won't! They will tell you once you pick a date to reschedule, you can't change it. You pay monthly. The classes are not cheap so things come up with kids and being inflexible about rescheduling is a major problem. Will look for another place and switch when I have a chance read more

As a small business owner myself, I can't imagine speaking to a client the way the owner of this gym spoke to me. After removing our 5 year old from the class she's been attending for several weeks without notice or explanation, the owner, on a phone call, refused to help solve the issue and wouldn't admit they were the owner. This gym is disorganized, mismanaged and the ownership is absolutely awful. We will be taking our business to Newhope in Fountain Valley. read more

This gym is horrible for small children. I come from a background in gymnastics/dance of 20+ years and I have never experienced anything like this. I signed my 5 year old daughter up and enrolled her in her first class level 1. The website stated McKenna would be the teacher, I even confirmed that through email with someone that clearly has no clue what goes on in the gym. When we arrived, no one greeted her, not one smile or hello or welcome to either of us. Half way through her class they switched teachers to coach alex, a male coach which would have been fine but my daughter specifically asked to be with a female which I DOUBLE CONFIRMED it was going to be. NO COMMUNICATION! Then I see from afar she is on the bars with him, this is her first experience other than the trial class and she is brand new, you would think they would give a 5 year old Grace. I can see she is starting to get upset and coach Alex is not comforting her at all. He gestures something almost aggressive and then she plops down on the mat and breaks down crying and he leaves her there! No comforting , nothing... I run over and he said she was scared so HELLO IF A 5 YEAR OLD IS SCARED, HELP HER! She sobbed the whole ride home so it just makes me t wonder and think he was no nice or compassionate or caring at all towards her. Horrible gym. read more

Our experience here was just ok. I feel like if you aren't on the team they don't pay much attention to the other children. Not much communication or involvement from the staff for the kids who are just in recreational training class. They had a big holiday party/ photo shoot/ potluck for Christmas. My child has been enrolled at Southcoast gymnastics for two years. This year we increased the number of classes to two. We rarely miss a class and my child enjoys being with her friends in class. Since adding a class, I have seen an increase in my daughter's skills, however the customer service here is lacking. The coaches often change week to week without notice. Last week we missed two classes for a vacation and I tried to book a makeup. I successfully booked one makeup class and then accidentally booked the wrong class for a makeup. My child has not missed the class. We asked to change the makeup class and the gym said that the policy is that you cannot use a makeup token after used. The class is next week. I emailed, called, and talked to the owner. He said it was my fault for booking the wrong day and there was no way to change it. He said he valued me as a customer because he talked to me. No gets to talk to owners according to the owner. He said other gyms don't allow makeups and there is nothing he can do. In February, the gym was closed for a meet and they canceled classes. They said there would be a year to do a make up and there has been no mention of it. I have asked the other owner about it twice and not action was taken. They do not typically have a receptionist. I am disappointed with the service and think that people should be wary when signing up for this gym. After a week the manager/owner offered a makeup for my mistake and for the gym closure. And the saga continues. No the exception turned into a missing token. I can't... my kid and I showed up to do a makeup up and could not. I'm tired. read more

Adult open gymnastics Saturdays 1:30-3:30pm for $10! I was in search of somewhere to continue maintaining my skills when I moved here in March 2015. I found Southcoast and have been going to the open gym pretty regularly. They also started an adult class on Tuesdays 7:30-9pm. It's great! Cost depends on the duration of the class. Over the summer we had two 4 week sessions which cost $80 for a session. There is an adult coach assisting throughout. I am so thankful that Xiaoping is having adult class and open gym. I wouldn't be able to maintain my skills without this place. I've also heard there is adult open gym on Friday evenings, but I'm not sure of the time. read more

My son has been going to South Coast for 6 years and he's part of their boys gymnastic team. He loves it and so do we. This is like a 2nd family for him. And all the coaches are wonderful. Our son always looks forward to learning new skills and competing at the different meets, especially the college meet & Black Jack in Vegas. He also enjoys their annual Strength Competition in the summer. Definitely recommend South Cost to anyone looking for a competitive or recreational gymnastics. We love it here! read more

I highly recommend this gym to anyone. They are super helpful in person and on the phone. The gym has a very easy to navigate website and the parent portal is awesome. They have a super fair makeup policy that I really appreciate. All the staff and teachers we have communicated with are great. As I am waiting for my son to finish his lesson, I can't help but be thankful to find a great gym that challenges my son to succeed. The coaching is excellent. South Coast Gymnastics is a family run gym focused on team gymnastics. The groups don't fight for space or floor time. SC has recreational gymnastics classes, but does not saturate the gym with an abundance of competing programs. The team parents are kind and helpful. Team gymnastics is a big commitment for parent and kid alike. I am a very happy parent of an 8-year-old boy that is focused and driven in gymnastics and the classroom alike. They know gymnastics at its deepest level and have a true passion for the sport. The way they coach and teach skills ensures that you will reach your full potential. Because they have Olympic experience, they are able to coach at a level that you couldn't find anywhere else! After doing gymnastics at South Coast for eleven years, I was able to receive a full ride scholarship for gymnastics to a NCAA Division 1 college. We love this place! We love how much our daughter enjoys coming here and doing what she loves and making life long friendships. All in a safe and loving environment. She has been coming to South Coast Gymnastics for the past 5 years and always looks forward to going to gym, competing, learning new skills and being with her teammates. I would say the only part she does not enjoy so much are the Saturday morning runs, lol! But, what kid enjoys running?! :P In all seriousness if you are looking for a gymnastics center for competitive team and even just for fun classes (academy program), I highly recommend this gym. I started when I was just 6 years old and continued on until I was 18, and I cannot emphasize enough how much this gym means to me. The coaches are understanding and very knowledgable about the sport. They make safety a priority and are very trustworthy. They know that the sport isn't about winning, but about being your best self. My teammates and coaches are like family to me now, and I would never trade my experience at South Coast for anything. I've seen kids of all ages in this gym have a great time learning gymnastics and making incredible progress as athletes and as motivated students. Good place for gymnastics, except they almost always end practice past the scheduled time. 5-10 minutes is acceptable, but more than that is a little ridiculous. If I'm on a tight schedule I would like to pick them up when the class ends, not have to wait over 20 minutes because they can't manage their time efficiently. read more

Terrible set up for the Preschool classes. I've heard the gym is great for older gymnasts, but you can skip this place for preschool age kids. Go to a gym where the people know what to do with kids in that age group and with instructors that actually want to be there. The teenage children they have running the Saturday preschool classes are not qualified to handle kids in this age group. My daughter was spit on by another child one Saturday. The next Saturday, we switched her time slot and a little boy physically hurt her twice. No one really seemed to notice or care, so we had to intervene and take her off the floor. When we asked for a refund, they said it was against their policy to give refunds. Even if you can't offer the services sold or my child was put in harm's way? Well, apparently so. Maybe this place is right for you with an older gymnast, but it's definitely not the place to enroll a preschooler. The instructors actually look like it pains them to lead the preschool classes. We will just put our daughter at another gym, so no big deal, but it seems super dishonest to not refund money when my three year old was physically attached two weeks in a row under their care. We've been going to this gym for 2 years now almost. my daughter is still unable to do a cartwheel let alone a headstand. We recently had a mishap on who was picking up our children, myself or a friend... in a panic we both rushed over to the gym to get them. their class was over at 7pm. I called several times at 7:10pm and got no answer. they absolutely NEVER answers their phones. They also have very little supervision. I think an establishment with lots of children should make it imperative they communicate well with the parents. I have tried to call Victor to discuss the situation with him but he has neglected to return any of my calls! very unprofessional! read more

I went there to sign up for my 6 years old twin kids. They were so excited to start a gym. But the owner is not friendly and did not help us. After spending 30 minutes with him he said that they did not work with my credit card. He wants me to pay cash. I said that my husband could bring the money when he came to pick us up. Because my kids were impatient to join the class. But he did not accept my kids to involve. It was not nice. He thinks only money. Kids feeling is not important for him. if i could give this place 0 stars, i would. My daughter has been taking classes here for two years, and it was ok. But recently, she was injured and is unable to do gymnastics. First, i asked for 3 weeks of credit, which is the amount of weeks she would have missed, so she could make up the classes she missed, but they said it wasnt an injury from gymnastics, so they couldnt give her credit because it was my " responsibility". So i asked for at least a half refund because she was INJURED, not because classes were boring. They refused to even give back a penny, again saying the tuition was my responsibility. I paid $255 a month, and she only went one out of four weeks. They dont care if your children get hurt or sick. Shouldnt they have a more flexible refund policy? At least a half refund when your child, no matter how much she wants to, can not attend class without a high risk of serious injury. If she was bored or simply didnt want to do it, then it would be my responsibility. But an injury? My daughter wants to go to gymnastics. I dont think a no refunds policy should apply to injuries that prevent someone from going. Responsibility is when your child doesnt want to go, or is bored of the class. NOT when your child has been injured and is unable to attend class. I told my friend, who had a daughter that went here, too, and she was a level ahead of my daughter. And she said that they once were required to pay a whole month worth of tuition (around $455) and wasnt able to go to class for 3 weeks. She even had a friend who told Soutcoast gymnastics that they were going to japan, but still had to pay Two Months worth of tuition, because it was required. We love this gym so much! My 9 yr old daughter has been here for almost a year after going through some of the other development team and USAG team programs in the area. This is 100% the right gym for her as we felt at times with other gyms they didn't always have the gymnast best interest in mind and things were more so based on what the best advantage was for the gym only. South Coast is owned and run by a former World champion gymnast and a former National Team member and their love for the sport shows in how dedicated they are to each gymnast that trains there. The gym feels like a giant family to us after only being there for one year. We are so thankful for this place! read more

South Coast has an amazing competitive team program. Over the last 9 years I have seen kids go to other gyms and return to south coast years later only to find their past classmates levels above them! South Coast Gymnastics is poorly run and unorganized. They have nobody at the front desk most of the time to help gymnasts and parents. The children are not actively coached. The coaches are most often found propping themselves against tge wall and watching. They have a hands off approach to coaching. They don't push the kids to do their best. The coaches settle for second best. This is not the place to go if your child wants to be a true competative gymnast. The mats a torn and dirty. Also, don't believe their website. The classes are 30 minutes shorter than advertised. They don't offer up that information when you sign up. Their make-up policies are rediculous. I've seen kids in jeans and t-shirts working out in the gym. Kids stroll in for class up to 45min late with no regard for the rest of the class or safety. They hold kids back in classes because they are unable to accommodate them in the appropriate classes and they move others up to the next levels because they no longer have room in the appropriate levels. They do cater to the boys and have a decent boys team. The girls team coaches are not great. They have a lot of injured athletes. They rarely spend time on all apparatus. Don't go here!!! read more
