Such a charming diner in Austell, it really takes you back in time. My friend and I were greeted as soon as we walked in and asked if we wanted a table or booth. We sat at this adorable booth for two, I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. This is truly a good southern style diner. Our waitress was very nice. Here's an example of why: I usually don't drink soda but felt like I needed some caffeine and was craving a cherry coke. My waitress put grenadine in the coke to make a cherry coke very me.... very cool! I tell ya, the simple things in life make a big difference. I checked the menu out online so I already knew what I wanted. I ordered the southern fried grouper sandwich with a side of fries. I was able to get ranch on the side at no extra cost (for my fries ;) ) $10. With the sandwich, you have the option of a side of fries, sweet potato fries or any side choice from the menu. I would give South Cobb Diner in Austell, GA, a solid Five Star rating for three reasons. First, their price points are reasonable based on the comparative quality of their food. This goes hand-in-hand when rating any restaurant. This is a diner where the complete meal is +/- $20. I am not comparing this to a $10 meal experience or an upscale $100+ meal experience. My rating is based on a comparable restaurant. Secondly, South Cobb Diner takes some leaps not many diners attempt. They create specialty items in-house that may or may not be to an individual's liking. Regardless, I appreciate these unique entres', side dishes, and desserts. Finally, the staff is attentive and are good people. Like all hero's who worked throughout Covid-19 and ongoing, they do their best to please customers (even the jerks) always. In closing, there are many issues with food establishments that are unending because of Covid-19. Inflation has caused food pricing to increase, labor for food establishments is a rare commodity, the people who remain working have to wear more hats and work harder, and, last but not least, the general public seems unforgiving for these first-world-problems! I order breakfast food, it took the cooks 40 minutes to make grits, a omelette , toast and chicken sausages 1. The omelette was not real eggs, the eggs was running off the plate, it was not a good omelette at all 2. The sausages was so dry and hard I could have broken their window with the chicken sausages if these was Deliha chicken sausages they should never cook them again! 3. Coffee I asked for creamer she wanted to give me milk, they had no sugar in the raw. she was being lazy didn't want to walk to the back and get creamer, I gave a her a look that said it all and went to get the creamer. 4. I never got a glass of water nor did they offered a glass of water but I saw them offering others, is a nice way of saying it. 5. I am new to the neighborhood and I try to support all businesses but this food here was so nasty I would never come back again I will stick to The cenacle which is down the street, their food quality is better. I have had their food several times excellent service and quality. 6. As someone who was and worked as a short order cook the people they hired to cook, looked like their uncles that was baffled and confused as the waitress. please Get some real short order cooks those cook and not your uncles. We normally go to West Cobb Diner, but we were in the area last week and decided to give South Cobb Diner a try. The people are nice and I see that they are currently undergoing renovations. I was first disappointed when they no longer served an item still on a paper menu. They have a limited menu already. I got fish and chips with mac and cheese instead of slaw and my husband got the turkey dinner with mash and green beans. The fish was perfection. Cooked well, battered well, seasoned well. Unfortunately it was the only good part of the meal. My mac and chips were both cold. My husbands mash and green beans were as well. The worst part? The stuffing for my husband. We're always known it was just well prepared boxed stuffing.... Except this time they forgot the "prepared part". I think they just poured it straight out of the box onto the plate. Luke warm turkey and gravy over croutons is not the best. We mentioned the croutons to the waitress and just got a "sorry about that". Oh well. I guess we'll stick with West Cobb. read more

A diner with a full bar and great food! I had a great experience at South Cobb Diner with my friend. The service was friendly and fast, and the food was delicious. My friend ordered the fried chicken, which was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I had the turkey Reuben, which was loaded with tender meat, cheese, and sauerkraut. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. We also enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and the retro decor. Spring break and it's lunchtime so we decided to give this spot a try. We walked in and was promptly greeted by hostess. She immediately took us to a booth and the waitress asked what would we be having today. We settled on fried pickles, Sprite and a Bud. Few minutes later, we ordered 2 Cobb salads with extra croutons. The salad was plentiful, the avocado were fresh and delish. My son enjoyed the pickles especially the sauces it came with for dipping. While visiting the Atlanta area during the pandemic, I was lucky enough to come across this gem. I have visited the restaurant a few times and although the food is spectacular, I have to admit that it is their staff that keeps me coming back. Alicia has been our server on three separate occasions and each time she has made great recommendations and keeps the Arnold Palmers coming. The levels of customers might fluctuate on different days and times, but her service never does. If she's seeing to five tables, you can guarantee that all five tables are receiving excellent service. She is the reason I will continue to frequent this restaurant until I head back west. As far as the food, it honestly continues to surpass my expectations. I've had the fish & chips, country fried steak, and the thyme-black pepper fried chicken sandwich and all of these meals have been a pleasure. The portions are generous and sadly there's never any room for dessert. Their sweet tea is a perfect compliment to washing down every savory bite. This place is consistently amazing. I have had a couple of bad experiences, but the positive far outweighs the negatives. My favorite is the country fried chicken. The country fried steak is always way too tough. Their menu has a lot of diversity and the majority of it is worth trying. Food wise, you should leave happy and full. Their portions are very nice sized. My biggest complaint here is service. Depending on the person it's so sporadic. Some waitresses are amazing and other you be there 1 1/2 hours. read more

I ordered dinner this evening via DoorDash. I wanted to try this spot because the food looked amazing but never had the chance to visit. I was glad they were accepting order until about 7:30 p.m. It a very easy process. I ordered a four-item vegetable plate with collards, brocolli and cheese casserole, black-eyed peas, and fried okra. 05/10/2021 - The frisco burger is nasty. Too much spices mixed in with the beef. I'm gonna be up all night with heartburn. VOMIT - Why can't I get fries with a burger? EDIT: Went again on 12/19/22 around 3pm. The website said they were open but got there and the CLOSED sign was on the door but door was open. Walked in to see many people eating. Was told they had closed due to a plumbing issue. CALL A PLUMBER AND FEED US!!! EDIT: Stupidly went back today (6/10/23 at 1pm) thinking maybe things would be better. The place was maybe 1/3 full... not busy at all. There were many workers standing around talking and ignoring customers. We were seated and immediately given water but then waited 15 long minutes for our server to take our order. 40 minutes later, I finally asked if there's any food back there for us?! The waitress (who had been eating her own lunch & talking to friends at the bar for the last 20 mins) said that another server gave my food to the table next to us. I look over and sure enough a couple (who had been there longer than us!!) was eating my burger and fries. WHO DOES THAT?! WHO GIVES HE WRONG FOOD TO THE WRONG TABLE and then tries to cover it up by not saying anything to the customer and remaking the food???!!! By the time they remade my food, my friends food (which had been done for a while) would have been cold. I cannot fathom the amount on stupidity, ineptitude & uncaring that the employees at south cobb diner show customers every single time I go there. The owner needs to fire the manager (katie?) and get involved in the day to day operations of this place ....IF.... they want it to continue to be a place people will go. If the owner doesn't care, like all the employees that work here... just keep ignoring the location and watch profits dwindle to nothing. I swear to god we will never go back to this place. Located in downtown Austell, South Cobb Diner has an updated and sleek exterior that stands out from the surrounding aged and slightly worn buildings on the same block. As a southern diner, one would expect it to be worn, old, cluttered and dusty - however, South Cobb Diner is none of those things! Upon entry, which is available through two separate doors, mere feet apart, you are greeted by the hostess stand. Continuing with the minimal theme from the exterior, the interior reflects the same theme with little artwork, no clutter, sleek floors, updated booths and a mix of neutral colors and blues. There was a lot of open space throughout the diner, I am curious to see what they do moving forward, as it appears to be useful space, but may not be the best laid out just yet. The place was certainly clean for the most part, with the exception of the full fly trap that is installed over one of the front doors. There were easily about 30 flies visibly caught, they should definitely empty those on a more regular basis as several of their tables sit in direct view and it's not the most appetizing thing to look at while enjoying your meal. Food wise we ended up both getting breakfast, more specifically the Breakfast Plate. It consisted of one waffle, one patty of sausage, two strips of bacon, two eggs and a bowl of grits - all for around $12. I started my meal with sweet tea, I mean, you can't come to a diner and not get it! The tea was ice cold and tooth tingling sweet, just how it should be! Our food did not take too long to come out, the plate was nicely portioned and overall quite tasty. I will say that everything was prepared well done/borderline over cooked. The eggs, which I got scrambled with cheese, were quite firm and the bacon was extra crispy while the waffle was slightly tough to get a fork through. While noticeable, it didn't ruin the food by any means. On the other end of things, the grits were thinner than I expected, especially from cheese grits. The food was decent, nothing I would refuse to eat again, but nothing I would write home about. I see a lot of really positive feedback regarding their lunch and dinner items and sides, so maybe breakfast is not their strong suit? I guess I will have to venture back to test this theory. While the food was decent, the service was sadly lacking, which seems to be a stark difference from some of the other reviews here. Once we were sat, our waitress came our way to grab our drink orders within seconds - upon her return we were ready to order, so we did just that. Once she took our order, she seemed to have lost interest or forgotten about our table, as it was close to the end of our meal before we saw her again. Another waitress, possibly a Manager brought our food out and she was friendly, energetic and helpful - sadly, none of those things describe our actual waitress as she was indifferent, disinterested and inattentive. Even once we wrapped our meal up and were preparing to leave, she seemed bothered by my request for a tea to go. It was simply unpleasant, as we felt we were bothering her. Parking was not an issue, while they don't have a private lot, there is a public lot located behind and street parking is plentiful in the downtown area. Overall, South Cobb Diner is a place that I would visit again if in the area and hungry, however it is not a place I would go out of my way to venture back to. For southern comfort food in a diner setting, look no further. They have a huge menu of every southern comfort food you can imagine, plus a smaller breakfast menu during brunch hours. Pro hack: I would recommend getting a veggie plate....they have SO many delicious sides, it was almost impossible to pick my one! It's a pretty large space in the middle of downtown Austell, lots of seating inside plus a decent sized bar. They serve very basic beer and wine, so I wouldn't say this is the kind of place you go for a drink (they don't even have champagne for mimosas, so I ended up having water at brunch). If you're looking for any healthier options, this may not be the best spot to go haha. I got the Love Street Omelette which is definitely one of the healthier options they have, and it was good but wasn't super flavorful. The winner was all of the sides....Cheese Grits, awesome. Corn Casserole, killer. Fried Okra, a good pick. Mac and Cheese, YEP. My husband also really enjoyed his Reuben so we left with a bunch of leftovers and a full belly. We stood there patiently as the two waitresses continued discussing a tip or lack of. We were finally seated with two menus and nothing else. We sat there for what seemed like an eternity with no one at least taking our drink order or providing silverware. So we did the next best thing, left and went to Longhorn. Word of advice to the wait staff, any discrepancies you guys have should be addressed in the back away from customers after you have at least taken drink orders. I did have a 5 star when they first opened but since then they have really started to fail. Especially the service. And now the food is hit or miss, never consistent. Last weekend I did a pick up order and got the Salisbury steak. The meat was so over cooked and burned I couldn't eat most of it. I attempted to call but not one ever got back to me. Glad I found it! I've been searching for restaurants closer to home. I admit I can be a food snob. I rely on West Midtown too much. This restaurant gives me hope for the west side : it's clean, friendly, and delicious! I sampled several menu items. The PORK CHOPS and gravy were amazing You can't go to a place like this and not sample sides. Has black eyed peas, Lima beans and Mac and cheese. My date had the grilled shrimp (also comes fried) and grits. It happened to be a trivia night which I thought was cute. Definitely give this place a try. So disappointed with our order. We ordered two meals through Uber Eats, and even though the receipt attached was correct we ended up missing three sides. I called the restaurant and they said they tried to call us because they don't have Mac n cheese, but I have no missed calls and we got one of the two sides of Mac n cheese. Then she told me they were really busy and asked if I could come get them after we paid for delivery. Update: I did receive a call from the restaurant the following day to try to rectify the issue.
