Beware! Brought truck in for smog and although it passed emissions they failed it because they said it didn't pass the visual inspection because they couldn't read the numbers on the catalytic converter. Rudely said, "You gotta go to the referee". At home we crawled underneath the truck and simply wiped away the road grime to EASILY see the numbers. Then we had to go through the time and expense of the state referee AND another smog at another shop which we passed with flying colors. I called the shop to ask if the owner was available and Steve immediately hung up on me before I even said why I was calling. It's a shame because the old owners were great and ran a wonderful business. Update- thank you for reaching out and for the refund. However be careful- they have a lunch break 12-12:30 which is not mentioned on the door or on their business card; I got there at 12:15, but I returned 20' later. Called them up on a Friday about a 1998 GMC Jimmy and they gave me the ring around on their hours, saying they close earlier than stated etc. Brought it in on Saturday (with another personal vehicle), the gentleman working was friendly and helpful, but my Jimmy needed a road test before running the full smog. I drove around town for 60 miles and came back, he said there was one more portion not reading and I'd need to drive it more, but would have to return on Monday. I called back on Monday, because I was working and couldn't bring it in earlier, and they said they couldn't even take my vehicle there. I told him it was there Saturday, and he came up with more excuses(again). I finally brought it back today, Wednesday, and the employees told me they won't take my vehicle, even though I had the paperwork proving they already had. The employees were incredibly dishonest, gave me some BS reasoning, and after being so fed up I just left. If they had legitimate reasoning for not taking the vehicle, I would have been understanding. But trying to say your hours change, your machine can't handle it, and whatever other garbage they used just let such a sour taste in my mouth. Their job is to preform smog checks, if they don't want to do that then maybe they shouldn't be a smog center... read more

Unfortunately, when I arrived at 9:50 am on a Saturday, they were closed for the day. I turned to Yelp to find another smog check business nearby and came across South County Smog Test Center, which was about a mile away and opening in 7 minutes. Perfect timing! Well, I have getting my smog here for over 10 years, so I decided to give the new place a try. Everything looks the same except that price have gone up, $65 out the door. It's seems like an average as prices have gone up everywhere, right? Anyways, the service is still very quick at 20 minutes! Faster than a DMV line! The one guy working there is also the SMOG technician. He's not that friendly but very efficient. The nice thing is the waiting area is AIR CONDITIONED!!! I called to see if I could make an appointment and was told they don't make appointments. Fine. I got there around 11:45, within 10-15 minutes of my call. As I'm exiting my car, a man appears at the front door quickly putting up a "closed" sign. He turns to me and blurts out "We're closed!". I say, "I just called you guys..." and again he says, "We're closed! Until 1:15!". They didn't think to mention that on the phone? And their website makes no mention of being closed at that time; it says open 8:30-5. This shop was inconvenient and unreliable, but I found a convenient and reliable STAR smog tester just a few minutes away. read more
