Our group loves Friday nights for the all you can eat fish and chips around town. We work late, so we tend to stick close by due to wait times on Fridays, so we go here a lot. The outdoor seating on the porch is a nice area for conversation (weather permitting) and the staff is always very kind and helpful either menu choices. Ribs were fall off the bone delicious Pound town burger was made with turkey this town (requested) very tasty! Most places that offer turkey burgers, seem to have a bland flavor to them so you doctor them with mustard or mayo, but here and Jonnas (New Hudson) are always great. Not sure what spices they use or a different vendor than most, but flavors excellent. Fish and chips is lightly beer battered and always great portion size. If it's been a while since you've been in, definitely come back. Pricing is on par for the portion sizes and they don't seem to be cutting back like most around town. read more

At first, I wasn't sure what to expect. It took a considerable amount of time to get waited on, but one person brought our drinks and then our waitress came to take our order. I got the prime rib quesadilla and I was no longer disappointed. It was perfectly cooked, tender, juicy, and delicious. It is very spacious inside with a nice size bar, perfect for large groups. Visited on a Saturday with some family. There were six of us, so we expected a short wait. When we arrived, the host told us it would be about 20-30 minutes, and we put our name down. After chatting outside for a bit, we were about to head elsewhere when my brother-in-law walked inside and noticed two completely open six-person tables in the bar area. He asked the host about them, and she admitted she had "forgotten" about those tables. The place isn't that big, so it was surprising that they were overlooked. We were seated quickly after that, and our waitress was attentive. I ordered the coconut chicken tenders, but they were disappointing--nearly burnt. Love the ambiance and setup! We sat outside on such a lovely day like most people but there was plenty of room (also noticed seating on balcony upstairs when we were leaving which would have been cool). Decent selection of drafts and pretty extensive food menu as well... I couldn't decide between the sandwich, salad and pizza options and ultimately went with the adult Mac and cheese. Our table also split some nachos. They were very tasty and my wife pointed out how she liked how cold were served on the side so the chips didn't get soggy. My adult mac and cheese was a great portion and very tasty, I liked the peppers and the slight kick it gave; the only suggestion would be one other flavor added in like jalapeños or cherry tomatoes. Went for lunch on a Saturday in August. It was pretty busy but they only had the first floor seating area open. Second floor was closed. Anyway, I can see why this place is in business for such a long time. I got the Hotel Special Pizza $14 and it was super good. The size I ordered was small but it was huge! Who calls this a small pizza? There was no way I could finish it in one seating so had to take it back home. Probably can have two more meals out of the leftover pizzas. Service was not good, order wasn't taken properly, zero refills on the soda, long time for her to come back and make sure everything was ok and it wasn't. I took my wife and mother to lunch here huge disappointment. Ordered the burger that was on the special menu and they made it wrong, fish and chips was all chips very little fish, don't even understand the nachos do not order them. Wet burrito is the only reason they get one star it was delicious. Place is packed and expensive everyone was done eating bye the time they even brought out my burger. A friend and I went here last night for dinner. I remember a few years ago we tried going on a Saturday night and it was PACKED; yesterday, not sure if it was because of COVID or because it's a holiday weekend, but we had no issues since it was maybe 25% full. We were originally going to eat outside but the chairs were really tiny and uncomfortable - I'm larger, but my friend is not and she found them uncomfortable too, actually - so we ended up eating inside. I ordered a Long Island ($7) and my friend got a Blue Hawaiian ($10). There are no prices on the drink menu for some reason but $7-10 is pretty reasonable. She said she always gets the chips and salsa there, which was interesting because it wasn't on the menu at all, but they do have it (it's on the "secret menu," I joked). Salsa was a little spicy and I prefer more room-temp salsa, but otherwise was good. I was super intrigued by their fried green tomato BLT so I ordered that, minus the lettuce (yes, I'm weird). It was very good but HUGE, and it also came with a large order of chips. Their chips were kind of waffle-looking (almost like waffle fries, but chips) and also a huge portion, and I only ended up eating a few of them. My friend is vegetarian and also gluten-free so she got their Southwestern salad, the full size, which was also huge; I'd recommend getting the half-size. We were considering getting dessert but ended up going over to The Corner Social for their Guernsey ice cream instead. Waitservice was good here but we did have to ask for a water refill. Husband come every time for the taco salad his all time favorite and gets double meat, I partook in Polish night which was very filling and delicious, my Polish heart was very happy! Beers prices seemed reasonable, my wife had a sangria for 10 dollars and it was your basic out of the bottle sangria. All in all it was OK. Service was good. It's what you would expect for a small downtown local bar spot. We sat at the bar and it took about 5 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge us and she had no smile and not the most hospitable. I asked for a beer on their draft list and they were out (M43) and she had no suggestion for a similar recommendation based on what they had in stock. We ordered the fish and chips and shared it. Good portion size - 3 filets. Food was hot and came right out by the kitchen staff! I appreciate the food coming out as soon as it was ready. Fries were hot, but i think we got the end of the bag on the curly fries as there was nothing curly about them. Their coleslaw is actually very good! Not creamy and thick but light and crunchy! It's a bummer to have to write this. SLHS class of '99 alumni here. I was super excited to come back all these years to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday last night. Since the rebuild after the insurance job...er..."grease fire in the upstairs kitchen," things have changed drastically. I was with a group of 13 people. My sister-in-law called ahead earlier in the week to let the staff know we'd be coming in. She had spoken with someone and gave that person all the details of our visit. When we got there at the agreed upon time, the hostess AND the manager had no clue what we were talking about. After some digging, the manager was able to find the information from the earlier conversation just to tell us that, "We don't accept reservations." Welp... They were busy on a Saturday night and that's a good thing. We were told a table for our size would be 45 minutes. So we compromised and said we would sit outside. That was going to be an issue for the Hotel because we wanted to be able to accommodate our group by moving tables together. Apparently this is against the Hotel's limited moral code. By that point we were all pretty fed up with the situation and gave our business to two other wonderful establishments around the Corner and on Lake Street. Hotel, do better. Someone needs to own this pretty big screw up. We had a blast last night. We just really wish it had been with you. read more

If you know me you know I am a foodie and I love trying new places. I have lived here in South Lyon for about three years now and I can't believe I have never tried the South Lyon Hotel. So the other night my wife and I decided to give it a whirl. Where should I start? First let's start with customer service because for me that is the most important and this place definitely has great customer service. Friendly and helpful. Now for food! So we got the prime rib French dip, crab bisque and the shareable nachos. Crab bisque was a little thick but really good. No complaints. The Prime rib a French dip was amazing. The fries were perfect the sandwich was big and satisfying. Prime prime rib was still juicy and not dried it out. And the coleslaw was a 10!. I am big on sides like coleslaw and side salads and fries so this was a plus for me. Now let's talk these nachos! First of all they make that to go nachos separate. They put your chips in one box and then they put your nacho toppings in another container. Brilliant. The nachos had every delicious we gooey topping you could think of and it was perfect for dipping chips in. These nachos are served with ground beef or chicken I decided to go with the chicken and I was not disappointed. I mean they truly use real chunks of chicken breast which is awesome no shredded mess over here. And when they say shareable they really do mean shareable I definitely got two meals out of these nachos and it was worth every single bite. Long story short I definitely will be ordering from this place again no doubt this is going to be another go to spot for me! read more

I had the French dip and sweet potato fries, which were both delicious. Only downfall is trying to find parking downtown as it was a Saturday night. Tonight we ordered the 2 of the Fish & Chips meals. The menu on the Hotel's website has the meal posted as $10.99. When I went to pay, I was charged $14.99 per meal I did not catch the price difference until I had returned home. I called the S.L. Hotel to inquire why the price was $4 more than listed on the menu. I was told," Oh that's the old menu. The updated one is at the bottom of the page in a link." Why would I think that I should look for "link" to different prices if I'm looking at what I want to eat and the price is listed next to that item. If you're going to charge more for your entrées, I think it would be a good business practice to make the menu reflect what the true price is instead of hiding it in a link waaay "down at the bottom of you web page. To me that is very deceptive and a bad business practice...especially in the hard economic times when business are depending on word of mouth advertising to back up their worthy products. On a better note, the cod was delicious as well as the cole slaw being crispy with a tasty slaw dressing. read more

I was here for the first time, this past Sunday, selling jam at a craft show. I've been meaning to check this place out but hadn't had time, so I was excited to check out the menu. I ordered the coconut chicken salad and it was UNREAL good! The chicken was breaded with coconut and crisp, perfected cooked and cut into bite sized pieces. The salad had strawberries, mandarin oranges, toasted almonds and a delicious housemade pina colada dressing. Great from beginning to end. After the show, I enjoyed the salad so much that I decided to order a pizza to take home. I got a large, with garlic parmesan crust and pepperoni and pineapple (the hubs and kids LOVE pineapple on pizza, what can I say?) It was really good too! Thick but not too thick, good smooth sauce and quality toppings. The hostesses, manager and waitresses were all super friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back soon. read more

Since we live in the area we've always enjoyed eating at the south Lyon hotel. Foods always been above average for bar food. After tonight we will never be back. There's no excuse for the service we received. We came in just before 5 on a Sunday evening. Ordered our drinks and food within 10 min. Fairly simple order- one kids cheese quesadilla, one kids buttered noodle, one adult Mac and cheese, and one chicken salad. After ONE HOUR still no food. I used to work in the industry and we are fairly patient people. There was a large group in before us. But after the table behind us that arrived 20 minutes after us got there food, we had to say something. Politely asked our waitress if she could check on our food as the tables around us were getting there's. She replied that they ordered "easy food" but not to worry ours was coming out right now on a tray. Side note- not sure what was complicated about our order?? A food runner comes up with a tray that is not our tables food at all. They scurry off to figure out what's going on. At this point we expect our waitress to come back and provide an update. Perhaps an apology? Some kind of timing estimate? Nope. She comes out and totally ignores us. Does not even come by our table goes to every other table. Clearly we have no food and have already inquired about it. At this point we took our two starving small children and walked out. Totally uncalled for service. We are patient and friendly people. Apologize and give us an update and we would have been good. Instead we've shared with all our friends what have happened and we will never go back. read more

It's a townie sort of place. If you live here you're going to run into someone you know and that's what I love about this place. That, and the pre- fire staff who still work there. They're still catching up on the food, I think the grill/pizza oven needs a bit more seasoning before it gets back to normal. The calzones and pizza sauce aren't what they used to be but I'm glad they're still on the menu. I'm hopeful that it'll be as good as it once was, just with the modern touch. DJ is great on Fri/Sat and keeps people up on the dance floor. Speaking of which, the concrete floor allows for some slick moves unlike the previous sticky wood floor. My boyfriend and I were visiting from out of town and decided to stop by on a Wednesday night. This place looked really nice from the outside, but was pretty disappointing once you come inside-- just a big room with tables and chairs. No other furniture or decor on the walls. The drinks were mediocre and bland. I ordered a sangria because of the Wednesday night special (couple $$ off all wines), but it tasted like cream soda and I couldn't finish it. Not only that, but our server, Danna, charged us full price for the sangria despite the Wednesday special. We questioned her about it, but she still took off the wrong amount (the sangria full price was $6, but she originally charged us $7... and then brought it down to $6 again when we reminded her of the special... meaning, we didn't get any discount at all).
