I had burst rear tire on my new e-bike. They took my bike immediately, suggested I go across the street for a cup of coffee while they worked on it. Got back about 30 mins later and bike was fixed. The shop is extremely accessible from the rear parking lot and is very inviting. Just moved to North Carolina and was going to meet my boyfriend for some beers.... Walked into the bike shop that neighbors the brewery I was looking for only to find out they don't open until 5pm. Definitely stumbled upon a great spot though! The hospitality was unreal. They gave me a beer, gave my dog a treat and after we got to talking a bit gave me a whole list of great places to check out while I'm in town! Sorry South Main Cycles, I have a number of dislikes about you. To start off, their weekday business hours are from 10a-5p (open until 7p on Tuesdays), which is fine if you don't work a "normal" job, but most of us professional folks do (and the bulk of your customers). Why not have be open from 11a-7p Mon-Thur and close early on Fridays? That's just my opinion.... I had them install a tubular road bike tire a few months back which quickly started to peel off and rotate around the center line of the wheel (basically the center of the tread was no longer lined up with the center of the wheel). I had to repair it myself, which was a huge PITA and time I would've spent riding and not worrying about my tire falling off mid ride. I have had positive experiences here, and the staff is always friendly and seem knowledgeable about cycling related subject matter. This place is so close to my house that's it's hard not to stop by if I need something fixed (like a broken wheel spoke, bar tape repair, etc). read more

Steve and his team at South Main Cycles are fantastic. I was in the market for a new mountain bike and after a lot of research picked out the bike for me online, a new Niner. I sent a note to a couple bike shops around Charlotte that are Niner dealers and Steve wrote back right away (after hours) and gave me a great price including a complete build. Kept in touch throughout the order and build process so I knew what was going on. The team there really cares about their customers. Since getting my mountain bike I've been back to get a new road bike and they take care of both of them. Also sent a couple friends in who have also been super impressed. IMHO... I always go to South Main for my bike needs. I just bought a entry level bike for my girlfriends son just because I refused to let her buy something 'cheap, i.e. Walmart' and she loves it and yeah he does also. Steve also sold me a great bike hitch and put it on and walked thru how to use it.
