I worked on that first computer 'til it could no longer be upgraded. And just recently, I had an issue with my laptop not turning on. He called me right back and talked me through my options. I wanted a new non-Apple battery installed in a MacBook. Sam warned me that the operating system may not accept non-OEM equipment, and I agreed to take that risk. Unfortunately, that's just what happened -- the laptop powered up and displayed an error message ("incompatible hardware") and would not continue without Apple intervention. Our experiment had failed, and I was OK with that. So Sam removed the non-Apple battery and returned the laptop with no battery in place -- but it would not power on. (A MacBook should run on the charger alone.) I took the now dead laptop to an Apple-authorized business for assessment and they could not get it to power on -- speculating that during removal of the battery there had been a short of the solid state motherboard. (Apparently you have to hold the power off button for 20 seconds to dispel any static electricity.) Anyway, bottom line is that I gambled on the battery being rejected, but never anticipated that routine repair work could cause permanent damage. I should have gone to an Apple-authorized business from the start and had an OEM battery installed by trained professionals. read more

It's so refreshing to give a 5* review for a business because I did NOT actually use their services! I left a message on a Sunday afternoon about my laptop that's been overheating lately. Sam called me within the hour and told me how to troubleshoot it on my own. He thinks it's probably dusty inside, so he suggested I order a special screwdriver on Amazon & told me exactly how to carefully clean the inside of the laptop. He also recommended I order a cooling pad from Amazon to keep it cool in the future, and suggested that if cleaning the inside does the trick, that I set a calendar alert for every 8 months or so to make sure it's always clean. Tried to drop my computer here in the middle of the work day and pulled up to a residential apartment complex. Was unable to find the location so I called the number. After reaching a machine multiple times someone finally answered the phone telling me they weren't there. He wouldn't be back for a while but told me my problem was most likely the logic board after I told him hardly any info, he also said he probably didn't have the part. My dad's desktop stopped working after a power surge took out the surge protector and apparently fried the power supply. We needed a quick fix and decided to take it to Sam. He didn't disappoint! Sam quoted us over the phone (with what I thought was a fair price), and we took the computer to him the next day. Sam had a brand new power supply ready to go when we got there, and tested it out to make sure it worked. He even decided to run a quick virus scan on the computer since my dad had mentioned he thought it was running slower than it should. Sam only charged us what he had initially quoted us over the phone and basically threw in a free virus clean-up. Sam was a really nice guy, clearly knows his stuff when it comes to computers, and was able to provide a very quick fix for something that would've taken about 2 weeks had we brought it to a Best Buy. Looked this place up on yelp and called because my computer had a cracked screen, they had the screen replacement in a few days and I brought my comp in and it basically took like 15 minutes for them to fix it. New screen works perfectly, no issues, and they downloaded a program that limits the really annoying aspects of windows 8 with all of the jumping around on the app button. Anyways they cost much less than their cheapest local competitor. I heard prices of anywhere from 200-300 for the repair. I would recommend this place to anybody for cracked comp screens. read more

This "business" is one guy (as far as I can see) running an operation out of his apartment. He appears to know computers and did literally what I asked him to do and no more. My complaints have to do with his lack of professionalism and customer service. He does not appear to antcipate questions or follow-ups, and acts annoyed with you if you question him or if you show you aren't tech literate. Sam is THE Man. I just returned from being deployed for six months and while I was away my computer contracted a terrible virus that prevented me from doing school work or communicating with family. When I returned on leave, I found him conveniently located in South Pas where I was staying. I called and there was no pick up. I contacted them on Sunday afternoon and Sam was incredibly helpful and was able to pick up my computer and within several hours and provide me diagnostic information to let me know the logicboard had unfortunately failed. Within 12 hours he was able to retrieve all of my computer files (including an important project I needed by the next day) and return everything to me the next morning. In response to Sam, here are a few clarifications on my earlier review posted in 2019. The repair by Sam was done a couple years prior to that. In 2019 I came across the laptop drive Sam had installed since I had not destroyed it. I did not forget the repair experience and decided I would write my review in 2019. The technician was given more than 6 additional hours than promised to complete the hard drive downloads. I called about 6:00 p.m. (did not force my way in) and requested the work be completed. I drove to the apartment and waited while the downloads ran. I was not told more downloads were needed before I left, and I only discovered that when I returned home. My review stated that within a MONTH (not 2 years) after Sam's service, I had an unrelated computer issue. This time I took the computer to a different repair shop. I was there when the technician opened the computer. He pointed out the dangling laptop drive ( it was used and had a date on it of 4 years earlier) with no mount. The other computer issue I had was repaired, and the drive problems were also fixed at an additional expense to me. read more

I think Sam has mistaken Pasadena for the Wild West. I went to him in desperation and after he informed me that he couldn't retrieve my data, which is what I wanted, he told me he had installed a new hard drive and tried to quote me for a price on it. I had no intention of rebuilding an old laptop, unless it was going to save my data. When I confronted him on this, he became hostile and tried to bully me. After our dispute, he tried to sell me the unfixed laptop and a broken hard drive for 100 dollars. When I said it sounded expensive and irrational, he started threatening to sell my stuff. His hostility, unprofessionalism, and threats were totally unnecessary. All it would have taken was some professional communication and integrity, but I think he was trying to pull a quick swindle. People like this make it hard to support small businesses and entrepreneurs, forcing consumers to needlessly rely on big business for purchases. In the end, Sam sold (stole) my computer without giving me the opportunity to either pay him for his labor or negotiate a fair deal. My husband and I needed a power cord for a laptop. We found on Yelp this "business" that had it. The address led to his apartment. On Google, this power cord ranges somewhere between $6 and $24. He asked $60 cash for a used cord. This man/makeshift store makes profit off people's desperate circumstances. I understand that we live in a free-market society. I'm a court reporter. On a Saturday night, I was working on an expedited transcript due the following Monday when my laptop died. I panicked and thought I had lost all the edits I just worked on plus all the hundreds of files related to previous transcripts. I woke up on the next morning and called all the local computer repair businesses I could find, and Sam was the only one who answered the phone that Sunday. Within an hour, he was PICKING UP my laptop from me, and within two hours, he was DROPPING IT OFF to me.
