I'm really slightly impressed by this nail salon. A friend and I opted to go here because they stayed open until 7:30 and fit into our schedules. Upon arrival we were greeted by a nice man who asked us what services we needed today. I chose a regular pedi with a gel manicure. When I sat in the pedicure chair I was offered a drink I chose white wine, it was gross tasted cheap and old BUT it was complimentary so can't really complain there. The woman who did my mani and pedi was really nice she paid attention to how I wanted my pedicure and how I reacted to her touching my feet (I am ticklish, which for me isn't enjoyable) she was gentle and there were no problems. I do wish I could say the same about my nails. I deducted a star just because I felt like she rushed my nails a bit and it was my fault when I smudged a nail but instead of repainting it she painted over the smudge and it just didn't look nice. I went back a d thats when they drew blood. The tips of my fingers are raw because to much skin was taken. The thumb was bleeding all over the place. I went in this morning at 830. I did not have my glasses with me. When i got home i texted thr nail tech pics. She said come back at 730. I went back and now my hands are throbbing and bleeding. I paid $108. I left a $20 tip. I got a birthday gift with was the "queen's package" : massage, facial, Mani and pedi. Let me start by saying I don't think they know what that are doing here and I don't think they have licences. Facial: she was nice, but she put a bunch of stuff on my face and I left feeling oily and gross. Massage: she basically just lightly rubbed my body ( and scratched me with her gross fake nails) for a very awkward hour of my life. I've had back massages from little cousins that felt better! I asked for more pressure, to which she sighed and begrudgingly replied. At one part she started PUNCHING me!! (It's felt better than the nothing of before) But then she forgot? I asked again, but this time she had headphones in and could not hear me. Then it got interesting, I felt a plop! And then a tiny tip,tip,tap on my butt. "This is a weird massage" I thought? It happened over and over until I realized that it was her phone, and she was actually using my BUTT to text while rubbing me with one hand. I've never felt so disrespected in my life. But I was just laying there naked and she had headphones so I couldn't get up and say anything to her or anyone else. I was literally not in a position to say anything Pedi: same girl! She obviously had a matter at home to take care of, because texted, she rushed me, then she asked me to pick a color. but when i didn't pick in 2 seconds, she snatched the swatches and said "you pick later" and she was generally rude. other patrons in the salon were looking at me like I did something to her! At this point I had clothes on, so I went to get someone else to finish my nails. Which was easy to do!!! And she left, all butt hurt and talking about me in her language. Mani: I told the new women, what happened, she she just said "she probably has family problems." And tried to upsell me on gel. I said no with TEARS IN MY EYES because i was leaving not feeling like a queen, despite the $160 queen package that was supposed to be 3 hours of pampering. I left after 2 hours of oil being drenched on my face, awkward light rubbing, butt texting, being PUNCHED, asian women yelling at me and a free gel upgrade that was supposed to compensate for everything. I went in for a chair massage just before closing. I was suffering from a stiff neck for a week. I was in pain. I called they told me no matter what time is was to "come in". Lynda gave me a great 20 minutes massage just for $20.00. At last the pain is almost gone. read more

I've been here many times to get my nails and feet done. It's been a while since I've been, but this place popped into my mind today. I was a repeat customer for some time, they would give me 2 glasses of wine. Well not really wine wine, but Arbor Mist. The massage I got was great!. The room was nice and dim, smelled fresh, candles, and relaxing music. The decor was pretty. She did a really good deep tissue massage. I just got my upper body done for 30 minutes. I only stopped going because I don't like acrylics anymore, plus I can give myself a regular manicure and pedicure at home. read more

I enjoyed getting my nails done here. The inside and decor of the salon is very spacious which is totally different from the regular nail salons. I liked that they recommended beautiful designs for me when I had no idea what should be done on my acrylic nails. I ended up with a simple yet gorgeous acrylic nail design for Prom and I received so many compliments on them. read more

This place is terrible for nails. They don't use clean or fresh tools, they use an electric nail file on your cuticles. They don't even do a good job filing, truly the most horrendous place I have ever been. Even the nail polish is old and messy. I used to live in South Philly and had gone here a few years ago. It has changed drastically. The whole place seemed dirty and the employees were all hanging around, eating, etc in the customer areas. I've been going here since day one the grand opening never once did I have a problem with any of the workers very clean everything that's ever been used on me was freshly out of the pack or there cleaned well with alcohol. Pedicures they scrub the tub out before I even put my feet in there never had a bad experience great people prices are great. I usually walk out of there most of the time spending around $200 because I tip them well because they take care of me. This place is all about money! They are over priced for no reason! You try telling them what you want they try to over talk you and give you the most expensive pedicure/manicure they have. If you stick to the basic which is the lower price then they do half ass work. Your toes/nails look like a 5 year old did them. They won't spend any time on you and you get a rush job. I come here for nails only so I am not reviewing any of the other services. I've only visited this place in the recent month - and only because it opens much later than any other place around. I didn't want to come here initially because of some reviews I've read, but it is nothing like what I imagined. To be honest, I really like this place. Perhaps things have changed, management has done some updating, or they had just cleaned up for spring, but everything looked scruffy clean. The lady that did my nail did such a good job that I came back here for the refill. (I travel a lot so I try new places very often and don't come back to any same salon often unless I am absolutely in love with it.) I'm very satisfied with my acrylic because I always like to get very natural looking nails that still manage to stand out. A lot of manicurists don't get it right, but the lady that did my nail listened to me and actually did it exactly like I wanted! Yes, I am excited!! Only one girl had done my nail to my satisfactory before this but that was when I lived in Pittsburgh. Anyway, I will most likely be revisiting this place especially for that manicurist. read more

Worst facial ever! I went to the South Philly Day Spa for a facial after a really long few days at work. ( I couldn't get an appointment at my regular spot and this place takes walk ins). My expectations were low- really I just wanted to relax. In the world on non-beauty school facials, $50 is low end. I didn't expect super glowing skin from a budget facial, just an hour of calm. The place was filthy. The towels smelled like mold. The face steamer smelled like mildew. It started with towels that burned my face. When I said they were too hot the lady laughed and just moved them. The massage part of the facial consisted of her pounding on my forehead with fists. I think I am lucky I didn't get a concussion. The whole thing, which was advertised as a 60 minute treatment, took about 25 minutes. The only pleasant part of the experience was the hot stones they placed under my neck. Seriously, I cannot say enough bad things about this place. read more

I've been having my nails done here for years. Contrary to what some other posters said, this place is NOT dirty. I get mani/pedis about once a month and manicures every two weeks. If I have one complaint, it's that their scheduling system sucks. Even if you make an appointment, there's a good chance you'll have to wait. Other than that, my nails are done to perfection. Since I'm color blind. Trina, my manicurist, always helps pick my color for me. She knows exactly what I like. And since I've been using her for such a long time, we always ask about the other's family. I can't say enough good things about South Philly Day Spa. read more

Never, Ever again. I went Saturday and had my hair dyed along with a manicure and pedicure. I told the woman I do not want my hair black. I stressed it over and over and over. Well, guess what color my hair came out. Ugh....... On top of it, she burnt my scalp in the front of my head from leaving the dye on for so long. I should have left once I saw how filthy this place was. Would it hurt to give a fresh coat of paint? maybe bend down and clean the 2 inches of crust and dirt at the bottom of the cabinets? In addittin, my toe nails were cut too short. Ever since Tina left to open her own salon this place has gone down hill and continues to go down hill. Trust me, stay away. She was the first person I went to for a gel manicure and it turned out very pretty. She also makes sure she massages your feet during pedi and hands during mani which some places may skip. Also with the pedi services she uses hot stones. Now I give it 3 stars because the receptionist can be unprofessional at times and they can use a bit of renovation here and there. read more

me and my friend went in to get our nails done for prom. originally, we were both supposed to get our nails done by her aunt Vicky but her aunt was on a schedule and on top of that we didn't make an appointment. some other lady had to do my nails. first impression of her was not good. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and the designs were the same except for the shape of the nails. I asked for a squoval shape and she gave me flare and it made the nails look a bit off. It was cute and all but it wasn't the shape i wanted. On top of that, she cut too deep in and made me bleed when she was cutting my cuticles. She did my nails half heartedly. Supposedly I was supposed to get a discount but she didn't. She charged me $65 and demanded a $10 tip. Tip: get your nails done by Vicky ONLY. If it's a lady that does nails at the bar (outside waiting room, lobby) don't let her do your nails. Vicky does it wayyyyy better read more

VERY EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. I used to go to this salon all the time, since they've opened. They really fell off. I had taken a big break from them due to a bad experience about 4 months ago but I was in the area and decided to give them another shot I just went on Wednesday 8/31/2016 I had the absolute worst in professional experience!!!! They recently started the use of plastic linings. I ripped the plastic lining as I pushed myself back into the chair which is very tall and big. As my pedicure went on for about 6 minutes I was wondering why I wasn't feeling the bubbles or the massage from the water and it was because the plastic lining had gotten caught into the drain that produces the bubbles and massage. When I informed my nail tech she looked at me and balled her face up and began yelling you ripped the lining it's your fault and turn to her right side to the customer sitting in a seat behind me and began laughing with her saying that I ripped it and it was my fault. Mind you its PLASTIC.. Not wood, not ceramic or any other strong material. Needless to say the lady continued yelling saying it was my fault, once I explained to the lady that I felt like she could replace it because I wanted what I was paying for and I was by then sitting in cold water and not feeling any relaxation she then continued on to yell and say very nastyly "if you want me to move you down there I do for you this your fault" then proceeded to get up and leave and yell "somebody else do for you" with her hands up in the air. The manager who was a young girl then came over and asked me what happened. I explained to her exactly what happened she then looked at me with a very strange look and walked away from me like she never even asked what happened. I sat there for about 12 more minutes waiting as nobody else came over or anything, I then decided to removed the foil on my nails from soaking off my old gel polish, get up, grab my shoes and pocketbook and go. I sat at the front to put on my shoes and dry my wet cold feet then the young lady who had asked what happened decided to say "you sure you wouldn't like somebody else to do it" I said no thank you. They are not trained, I've gotten nail fungus from there (never went anywhere else), and they talk about their clients in Vietnamese the entire time they are working on them, but they think we don't know that. So funny. I heard it from one of their own; when they look up at you and smile in the middle of their conversations, that is a good indicator that you are being discussed. They should disallow their technicians to constantly chit-chat with each other in any foreign language while working on clients. I stopped going there specifically for that reason. Many others I know have done the same. My advise to them is to wise up or lose more business than they already have. read more

I have been going there since they opened. At the beginning they were not allowed to speak any language but English. Now they speak other than English and they are on their cell phones while working on you which is very rude. They are very nice and the prices are great. That and only that has kept me going there. But the last time I was there I couldn't stop noticing how dirty every thing was including the tank top my operator was wearing. Why doesn't management have all of them were the same top and bottoms sort of a uniform? Don't know if I will be going there again. What I do not understand is that people have written how dirty everything is as far back as 2012 and nothing is being done about it. I went here the other day for a Brazilian wax. First it is by far one of the cheapest places around, which is what initially caught my eye! $35 for a Brazilian is about half the cost of most salons. I have gotten these now for a couple years, so I'm really comfortable with the process. At South Philly Day spa, the wax was good, got the job done and was quick (got it on my lunch hour). But I wouldn't recommend it if you are getting one for the first time, or are still uncomfortable with the process. The woman that waxed me was very quiet and would have made me feel awkward if it was my first time. Also, the wax was done in a back room at the salon. I'm assuming the same room they use for other types of waxes, massages, ect. Other salons, have a really relaxing and comforting atmosphere, this one was just in, out, done. Overall, I'm definitely going back because of the price and the fact that they did a pretty good job. I just wouldn't recommend it to a friend for their first time or anything.. read more
