When I walked in I saw it was an intimate calm space with a cool vibe. I spoke to Sahar, who was thoughtful, and professional and understood my needs. She regretted that she missed gut not being able to accommodate me, but let me know if I could wait a bit maybe they would be able to. So I waited a bit. She then came out and said fortunately one of the manicurists was available and I could not be happier! I've had manicures in fancy ritzy hotels, and average run of the mill places ( all over the world). HONESTLY I cannot say enough about this place!! I felt as if I was treating my hands & nails to a special SPA service. Very elevated! The warm towels and the fabulous scents & creamy hand massage were phenomenal!! I ONLY wish they had a room in the back to DO this to my entire body!! The quality of polish they use is also amazing! It's been five days since my visit & my nails NEVER looked better!! My manicurist was Angelica. I think anyone employed here would do a great job! But she was very lively & professional! Would definitely return there again! I was very excited for this and had very high expectations but I was quite disappointed. I got the Coco Pedi for $144 (yes, not a type-o, 1-4-4!!!). I thought I deserved a splurge. For that price, you'd think you're getting all the bells and whistles. If I'm being honest at my regular pedicure spot I get better treatment, more of a massage, etc. What I found really interesting was they didn't even lotion your legs. There's a wide selection of colors, but that's true everywhere you go. I understand this is free of chemicals and a more organic pedicure option which I LOVE, I was just expecting more. Sadly, I won't be back! I do want to say I am glad I tried it out and supported a small business, the women were super sweet, friendly, and accommodating and did a GREAT job. My absolute favorite safe space/spa/comfort zone/happy place in Philly. Mi Cumbia makes me happy plain and simple. From their beautiful nail polish selection to how well they treat their customers, every time I go I feel like I'm with my mothers and sisters and I walk out with a bomb mani/pedi and healthy nails. Everything is always so pure. Last time I went for the ultimo combo and I felt like I was walking on the clouds, my nail tech used shaved coconut and coconut oil to give me the best arm massage, she was attentive and careful with my nails, and when I left, I kept getting compliments about my manicure. I used to love this place, but I didnt like my last visit. The charged me charged me 66$ for the selenas pedicure which was originally 50$. I wanted a simple french pedicure and they charged me an extra 10$ without telling me that a french pedicure was an extra 10$ charge.There was no good communication. I even went to the website no where does it say a French pedicure is an extra 10$ charge ! I only had a certain amount on me at the time. Which didn't sit well with me. I also tipped because, Im a kind customer. As I got home my pedicure was smeared. I didn't spent 70$ for my pedicure to mess up not only that but the nail technician who did feet didnt do a good job on my heels. My heels were peeling when I got home they were not smooth. For the past year I have been a regular client here. No more. One issue that has bothered me on a regular basis is bathroom inaccessibility. This 'spa' has one bathroom. Every time I have come in and asked to use it, I am told that there is a service going on in the waxing/hair removal room that is on the way to the toilet and thus, I must sit, jiggling, with my legs crossed until that room is free. And usually it never becomes free during the length of my visit. How can you relax with the pressure of a full bladder? Yet and still-I'm a man with a larger capacity. I so pity the poor women who come in needing to pee who then find the 'necessary room' totally off limits. When I first began patronizing this place, service was beyond stellar. I was offered a beverage several times during my appointment, offered help with selecting a polish type/color, and had time to converse pleasantly with the woman who did my pedicure. Again-no more. On my most recent appointment, I walked in and was not acknowledged, not offered anything to drink, never mind talk of polish choice, and the manicure tech, usually a pleasant person, did not say a single word to me during the entire visit. Not even a thank you for the generous tip I always give her. 2 young women in the front, seemingly new, were swanning and mooning around like idiots, then sitting at one of the manicure stations, just hanging out. They looked bored and seriously under employed. A casual atmosphere is one thing. 2 employees who do not even make eye contact with customers, offer water or check on customer's needs but have the time to lounge around doing eff all is another matter altogether and it does not look nice or reflect well on the business. When I first started coming, the 45 minute pedicure was $58. It is now $71. With no bathroom, no courtesy or hospitality and (to me) no real value for my money, I am simply going elsewhere. It saddens and disappoints me to write this, but getting too big for your business britches and filling your shop with rude, indifferent staff is not something I am willing to pay for any longer. The Rittenhouse area, as well as most of Center City, is full of equally charming, hospitable and less expensive places that offer pedicures. And I won't ever have to suffer through any more corny versions of 'Guantanamera' over the sound system while having my nails polished. read more

I had a gift certificate to use up and finally made it in for a shellac manicure today. I must say I am very impressed, and this place lives up to the hype. It is a gem unlike any other salon I have been to. The text-only booking system was extremely efficient, and allowed me to pay everything (including tip) ahead of time so I had nothing to worry about when I came in. The people are extremely kind, welcoming, and personable, and you can tell they put a lot of love into their work. While I love having nice nails, I can't say I've really ever come out of a manicure feeling more relaxed than when I came in, as the salons I've been to have usually been noisy and busy, in and out type of places. However, at Mi Cumbia, I truly felt relaxed and really enjoyed my experience, and not just the finished product. The salon is quaint, beautifully decorated, and has a semi-private feel. Karina, the owner, did my nails and worked some serious repair magic, as two of my nails were badly chipped. The all natural products she used smelled and felt amazing - I have never had lavender buds and mango butter as part of a manicure before, and it was such a wonderful treat. I love that instead of acetone, all you smell at Mi Cumbia are amazing and simple organic products. I had a wonderful time chatting with Karina and learning more about her unique business, as well as chatting with Sahar (I believe she is the manager? She was very fun to talk to). The price is steep for sure: at $70 for a shellac manicure, it's twice what I pay for traditional gel. Yes Mi CUMBIA is going to be way WAY pricey than other local spots (probably double, sometimes more than double) more a mani pedi but you are treated like royalty. Maybe once a year treat yo self is doable here :P The polishes are all high end (Chanel, Dior, etc), and as some reviews have said, you are helped to choose a color and experiment. I was not a fan. It was very crowded, loud, not air conditioned, and expensive. There were a number of children-- a problem if the kids aren't getting services and you're paying 30% more because it's a small, organic salon. Also, the bathroom is connected to one of their rooms for private services, so if someone is getting a wax, there is no bathroom. There was also a lack of flourishes-- they don't use little bowls of water to soak your hands, and my manicurist didn't have me wash my hands before she started on my gel polish. I really don't get the appeal. My manicure was fine, but I could have gotten one more quickly and comfortably at virtually any other salon in the neighborhood (for ~$20 less). read more

What can I say! This place is amazing. I think the break out star is the excellent customer service and the kindness shown to customers. From the minute you walk in and until you walk you out, you're constantly met with kindness and smiling eyes (the masks hide what I believe is the actual smile). Hooray! Tons of colors now! Two comments after my last two relaxing visits: 1. Minx pedicures really bring in the compliments! I had silver toenails that looked like little mirrors, which I endearingly referred to as my "robo-toes," that lasted for about 4 weeks! You can walk right out of there without waiting for Minx to dry, can slap on some closed toed shoes and not worry about smudges (perfect for the cold months ahead). 2. Marjorie is the sweetest. I've been coming to Mi Cumbia for about 5 months now and I don't see myself going back to any other nail salon or spa. I highly recommend the coconut mani and pedi. They brush warm coconut oil on your arms and legs for a massage and then exfoliate your skin with fresh coconut shavings. It's straight up one of my top 5 favorite feelings that I've ever experienced. TOP 5. And the massage? Holy s***. I've actually never had a massage as great as this when I was just going to the nail salon. The staff at Mi Cumbia are exceptional. Period. On my quest for the perfect brow wax I came across Terra Mia. Why not I thought? Ended up with a brow and bikini wax. I was a little shocked when I saw how much hair she took off with the brow wax, but the next day it looked fantastic.. The bikini wax was pretty painless and just as fantastic. Only problem for me- my skin is super sensitive and I broke out from the brow wax-total bummer!! As I was walking out I noted a few people enjoying pedicures. My scraggly feet could definitely use some TLC so I booked a pedicure. I was short on time and as much as I would have loved to luxuriate in an hour pedicure I opted for the express pedicure. I could totally tell I was missing out. For the brief time that my tired feet were massaged it was heavenly. $42 for an express pedicure-totally not worth it, but the hour long pedicure (although pricey) might just be worth it. I really appreciated how careful the pedicurist was with the polish. Although the colors available left much to be desired for, my toes looked fantastic. read more

It was a nice experience being there for the first time yesterday. I had very nice two ladies that worked with me. I would off wished they just kept me with one lady, I don't understand why they have to switch from manicure to pedicure. First, some of my nails were left with bubbles. You can't tell with the photo- if not I would post it. Then when I did the math and the small heart on both ring fingers was $10 per nail! Never again! I have gotten really extravagant nails with gems and other things for a lot less. A simple heart maybe like $3 dollars each would be reasonable. If I would of known, no heart for me! That was too much! The environment and staff still very nice, but I think their prices need to be checked for some services and the regular manicure is really not worth it, it looked like I did them myself. I visited Mi Cumbia for the first time today and was very happy with my manicure by Blanca. I got the shellac manicure, which took just under 30 minutes to complete. The atmosphere of this small salon is very comfortable and welcoming, the staff were very friendly (and offered beverages) and explained how I could remove the polish. My polish was seven free and everything was very clean. Yes, a $39 manicure isn't cheap, but this was well worth it. The atmosphere also helped; many regulars came were greeted as old friends while I got my nails done. I definitely plan to visit again. read more

My first time to Mi Cumbia was last week, and I had a pedicure scheduled. It was pouring outside and I came in drenched. When I came in, I was given a towel to wipe my face and a warm neck pillow. They also threw my pants in the dryer and my socks as well. During the pedicure, I was given a small cup of coffee which was delicious.The pedicure itself was great and very relaxing. Mi Cumbia is a welcoming, unique, organic nail salon that I visited for the first time during Thanksgiving week. They are located in Rittenhouse Square, a well-liked part of town. It was the start of my five day "staycation" and I wanted to pamper myself so I started with a pedicure at this lovely place. I was greeted by a very pleasant manager who introduced me to the various types of nail color in the salon. No salon I had ever been to had explained the value of the products before, this was really cool! And the manager didn't just point me to a chair, she actually introduced me to my pedicurist and the pedicurist walked me to the pedicure room and got me situated for the salon experience. I was very attracted to the fact that Mi Cumbia was not the cookie cutter variety of nail salon. It was lovely with rhythms of Columbia filling the space in both music and decor. For this my first visit, I selected the Tropical Pedicure which included a one hour experience: a foot msssage for 15 minutes and a coconut pedicure for 45 minutes. It was very relaxing. My pedicurist did not talk much which was fine with me because I love to close my eyes and take it all in. Instead of talking, she gave me a very skilled and thorough service. I don't think I have seen a pedicure this good since I was on vacation in the Bahamas a few years ago. Also, the serenity factor was pretty nice because the pedicure area was semi-secluded, only housing two pedicure stations. The peace would be interrupted slightly when another client or staff person had to walk through the room to get to another room. It was a slight imposition. Taking the full experience into account, I missed the shoulder massages I would receive while my nails were drying at other salons and no one came to remove the toe spacers, I had to remove and discard them myself. But if Mi Cumbia would refine some of these smaller details I would give them five stars. It is one of the best options for a pedicure because the staff is welcoming and friendly, the pedicurists are skilled at their craft and the salon uses progressive nail polish brands that are healthy alternatives to the toxic consequences that can occur from the chemical fumes you find at other salons. read more
