My husband and I enjoyed this place. We were only in town for a few days and had only one opportunity to have breakfast together. My husband thought his omelette (bacon, green peppers & cilantro) was really, really good. I ordered a short stack of the blueberry corn pancakes, which were quite good (comes with real syrup). Ordered sides that were less enjoyable. Turkey sausage was skimpy and the breakfast potatoes were almost cold when they arrived. Lastly, the coffee was really not that good; tasted like any other restaurant's coffee: drinkable but not good. read more

I really wanna like this place. It's around the corner from my house, the wait staff is super nice and friendly, the espresso is pretty fantastic but the food is beyond mediocre. I thought I'd give it another shot this morning and ordered the quiche (I love me some quiche). But this stuff was a tasteless, gelatinous wedge. I couldn't finish it. And don't get me started about the potatoes. If you must go, stick to the simple stuff like bacon and eggs or pancakes and steer clear of the boring breakfast potatoes. I wouldn't recommend the blueberry cornbread either. I'm not much of a yelper and I don't generally like to post unpleasant things but I love breakfast and Walnut has consistently let me down. read more

This was the first place we went for breakfast when coming to Boulder. The food was good, and very reasonably priced. The menu is unique and there are lots of choices. The quality did not blow my mind, but it was good and we left satisfied. Will come again. The blueberry cornbread was very tasty. read more

Very nice people, very mediocre food. I've eaten at this restaurant and the one in central Boulder probably 20 times in the last 15 years, because my friends like it. If you are a hippy, or like to pretend you are, you'll probably really like this place. The free sides are tortilla chips or an apple. Really? It's just not special enough for eating out. How about a scoop of a quinoa salad or a hip version of a potato salad? The hamburger was extremely disappointing. The owner needs to bring the food up at least two levels. Maybe she could get some ideas from Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. There's just no reason to have such uninspired food. read more

Best breakfast in boulder. I've had them all and come here more often than not. Great atmosphere and place to eat.

South Side is a go-to lunch spot for me because it is very near my work. I love their daily specials and the coffee is definitely good quality. My only star reduction is due to inconsistent service. Sometimes the servers are very friendly and attentive, sometimes we go a half hour without getting a drink order delivered or our food order taken. It's also pretty loud and chaotic, so it's not a good place to go if you just want to chill and enjoy a cup of coffee. But, on the plus side, I love that they support local artists, have birthday cake every day, and have consistently excellent food. read more

On a recent visit to Boulder, I ate at this awesome café no less than three times (twice for brunch and once for lunch). I preferred brunch, but that might be a personal preference. The food is delicious but not too heavy, the coffee is unique and tasty, and the staff are fun. They were great with my 3-year old. When we went on a Tuesday, they brought us all mini cupcakes at the end of the meal. Very kid-friendly too- step stools in the bathrooms, toys and books in the dining room, etc. Highly recommended. read more

This is my favorite place for breakfast- Everything I have ever eaten here has been great. Breakfast usually comes with 2 sides- french toast as a side? Can you say, brilliant? This is a spinoff of the Walnut Cafe on 30th Street. The food is very good and the staff is exceptional. Unfortunately the portions are too large for my appetite but they will not offer a "half" or "smaller" portion. On the weekends the wait can be very long, and the inside noise level is very high. I'm giving this place 3 stars only because normally my experience is great. Southside is one of my favorite breakfast joints, and I go there often. I've never been ashamed to be a patron of theirs. Today though, I was incredibly disappointed. The only part of the meal I'm going to compliment was the service, from a girl named "R" on my ticket. She was tipped accordingly given she had no control of the situation at hand and simply did everything she could given what was going on. I am a manger at a local restaurant and I have dealt with every type of shitty customer that complains simply to get free meals. However, I am NOT one of those customers when I eat out. To begin, my eggs were delivered and immediately I was able to scrape the watery portion out from the center of an overall spongey pile of yellow. Gross, I will not be eating them. But hey, I work in the industry and I know these things happen. What does one do when the kitchen sends out sub-par food? You comp it off the customers ticket. ESPECIALLY if the customer does not eat the dish. My ticket was returned to me with a "new" price of $9. $9 dollars for a dish I hardly touched? Trust me, I hate to be the customer who complains, but I just couldn't swallow this one. Unfortunately, this is when things took an even uglier turn. The manager is supposed to handle these situations with grace and in my situation (and most others...), complete respect for the customer--especially when they are cool and understanding (as I was). I felt completely patronized as the manager (I believe her name is Dana) proceeded to insist "we've never had a problem like this before" (right, a breakfast place that has NEVER had a complaint about their eggs...) and then, gritting through her teeth, took another $2 off. Condescendingly, she continued to explain to me how they prepare their scrambled eggs and reiterated that this has never been a problem for them. Look lady, I wasn't fabricating a whole story so that I could have a full belly and a free meal. At the end of the day, I paid $7 for eating half of my small gluten free pancakes, a few pieces of fruit, and an iced coffee. Not everyone is out there to screw your business over, but perhaps Southside encounters a lot of people who seem to maintain that motive. That's the solace I guess I will take in my experience from today so that one day I'll be able to return with some dignity. I'll assume that this is not the way the Walnut restaurants carry themselves as foundational Boulder establishments. Although, when the serving staff exceeds the quality of service well beyond that of their management, well...I guess actions speak louder than words. Needless to say, they have lost me as a customer for a while. read more
