I've ordered from here twice for pickup, and I live only a few blocks away. The price seemed high but the reviews were good so I went for it. The first time got a large pizza with BBQ chicken. The taste was ok, but the pizza was barely warm--again, I live very close to the place so it's not like I drove a long time and it had time to cool down. I thought maybe it was a fluke so I tried one more time, this time a veggie pizza. I even made sure I was there IMMEDIATELY after I got the message that it was ready. Once again--lukewarm. As a N'Haven Italian American transplant now living in Southington, I am constantly disappointed about most pizza offerings in town. I know that I will never get apizza of the likes of the Trinity, but I would be pleased with what I refer to as 2nd tier N'Haven apizza. 2nd tier is not a knock. I'd put those pies (Ernies, Zupps, Dayton, John&Marie) up against anything outside of the Elm City. Tonight, we tried South Town for the first time. This is nudging towards that 2nd tier that was ubiquitous where I grew up. The Foxon Park in the refrigerator made me smile. Diet White thank you very much! If you're from the Elm, yaknowhatimean. We ordered a muzz with garlic. Fresh garlic was a little heavy-handed, but, hey, no one complained as they tucked into their second slice. Dough was crisp, slight sag towards the center. Sauce was simple ( as it should be) and not overly seasoned with herbs. No noticeable leoparding on the bottom like a coal oven would produce, but that's not characteristic of 2nd tier anyway. Because this is deck oven pie, it could have used another 60 seconds or so to start to char the cornicione. Overall, very decent. For Southington, 4 stars. I made the mistake of returning and ordered a pair of cheese pizza slices. Table seating has been eliminated since my last visit, not a problem as I wanted mine to go anyways. It seemed to take an inordinate amount of time between ordering and receiving my slices so I wondered why. Mystery solved - when I opened the box and found the slices had been burned nearly to a crisp with the end crust uneatable. Their claim of being New Haven style is a stretch while better pizza may be found nearby so the chances of my returning are somewhere between slim and none. read more

Heard a few ppl talk this place up and decided to try it. It's a decent pie, nothing outstanding, not bad either. Was going to give a better review, until I saw their chopped salad. The chopped salad was completely wet without dressing and had spoiled lettuce throughout (picture). Guessing their salad mix froze and thawed out or just became watery from being bad. I prob should have looked at it before I tipped them for takeout. At least the girl who took my order over the phone was very sweet and friendly in person too. This was my first time 1). ordering through Doordash, and 2). ordering from South Town Apizza. The reviews on here are stellar: it's the whole reason I placed STA on my "Wish List" of places to try. And I desperately wanted to be impressed. The pizzas we ordered are tasty: love the sauce on the regular cheese pizza with extra cheese; the Veggie Bomb was not as flavorful as we'd hoped (kind of bland; not even a hint of garlic which is unlike most white pizzas). Fresh ingredients, super thin crust, but definitely not New Haven style pizza because this pizza is simply TOO thin, too cracker-like crispy without the necessary chew, and a bit too much char (maybe a bad night?). As a pizza purist, I like what I like, and I apologize if my view differs from others, but I was weaned on pizza, living upstairs from my Italian grandparents as a young child, and attending college on Long Island with frequent trips into NYC (not to mention my travels through Italy). I've had great pizzas, and this is good pizza, just not great pizza, and not better than some places here in Wolcott. I'm sorry, truly, but if you've ever had, for example, Sally's Apizza, you'd know what I mean. As for Doordash? I think growing up in Wallingford and getting used to New Haven style pizza not only in Wallingford but also in Meriden really left me spoiled. Having moved to Bristol a little over 10 years ago I've missed having good pizza local as I have yet to find a pizza in the area that I can honestly say was 5 stars all day long. South Town came through and although a little far to drive it's well worth. Luckily there's doordash for delivery and even after the incredible amount of fees Doordash charges the food from South Town is still worth it. We ordered a sausage and onion pizza and Beth's Meatball Calzone Topper Pizza. As a side we ordered the loaded fries. And for afterwards we ordered a 6 count mini Cannoli and some cookies. All the food was excellent and the fries were addicting with a huge portion. The pizza itself. Obviously New Haven style. Toppings tasted amazing on both pizzas. Fresh tasting and plenty of them! The crust is where it kicks it up. Very flavorful! Not bland tasting crust like most places do around here. Nicely cooked so you get a crisp exterior with a chewy interior. Like how every pizza crust should be in my opinion. Toppings stayed on the pizza. Just needed to mention that. Nothing fell off, not even when I attacked each slice like a rabid wildebeest. Obviously I'll be back to South Town as my new go to for Pizza! Outstanding food and decent prices. I will promise this review by saying.... I really like this place... BUT.... I ordered online through slice. Given a time to pick up... Then messaged it was pushed back 45 minutes. The called it wouldn't be ready until 7:00p. I placed the order at 4:39p so I go ahead and cancel. Then slice calls back and says the restaurant can have it for 6p. It's now 6:20p and no pizza; it's seven deep with people waiting all frustrated... I had the young lady at the desk take my name and order and never respond back to me. Another young lady asks me if I've been helped... I tell her I don't know ask her.... they both look at each other and.... NOTHING!!!' They can't handle the online Slice ordering format nor do I think they can handle any online ordering concept at this moment... I thought they had it figured out - guess NOT!!!! I gave four stars instead of five because I often do take out and my only hold up is this pizza doesn't travel well compared to other pizza places. We ordered delivery last night through Grub Hub because we were pretty tired of our "usuals" & I am SO happy we did! This is by far my new favorite local but not really local pizza place! (We live about 15 to 20ish minutes away) I had a cheese calzone that was cooked perfectly. It had more ricotta cheese than I personally prefer but again, that's preference and not fault! The top was covered in a baked on amazing cheese of some sort and the sauce - OMG, the sauce!!! It's awesome and amazing and incredible. My family came to America in 1976 from Italy and their sauce was literally my Nonas sauce but a touch better which being my favorite sauce in the world my entire, I never thought such words would be uttered! Thank god she has no idea what Yelp is, I would be in serious trouble. My husband ordered a grinder and he said it was really good. We also ordered a pepperoni pizza for the kids who devoured it - it was also perfectly cooked, browned to perfection and not burned. The pepperoni looked great, cooked but not overdone. (I'm a vegetarian so I sadly couldn't eat a piece and I say sadly for a reason, it looked delicious!) I can't wait to order again and try the pizza! read more

R.I.P Dominick and Vinnies. Apizza wears the crown of Southington now. Apizza is consistent. The quality has been 5/5 on all three of my takeout orders. D&V has been #1 for years, but the last couple orders were not there quality wise. This is my beef with Nonna's on center St as well. They were the champions of Southington but got complacent. Not to mention they're considerably more expensive then everyone else in town, so I expect top shelf every time. Nonna's cut out all their good coupons too, but still offered delivery unlike D&V which kept them almost neck and neck with D&V. I've had three pies. Cheese, veggie bomb, and the new haven Special. They have some exotic pies on the menu that I'll never try but they got the classics right so I'm assuming they can do it all. Disclaimer: this is strictly a pizza review. I haven't had wings, salad, anything else yet. My only gripe was how the cheese pie was sliced. I've heard a lot about this pizza the past few months, my husband has suggested trying it numerous times, but it's 25 minutes from us, and they don't deliver. We were in the area with some family last night though and decided to stop in. There isn't really a dining area, but there are some tables set up. They offered to put a couple together for us and told us we could grab some drinks from the cooler-I'm not sure they were supposed to wait on us, but they did. We ordered the antipasta salad which was big, and delicious, and 2 pizzas-a cheese and sausage mushroom. Both were fantastic. I love the New Haven style thin crispy crust. It's hard to find around here. Overall everything was great, they were very accommodating of our group and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Gary? I have overheard some comments to his staff that are a bit alarming. Such as calling another staff member a fruitcake and other comments that are not professional at all, I'm sure after hearing how he speaks to his employees he is also the type to make the women if any besides Jessica are there uncomfortable as well.
