The pizza looked great, but first bite was a heavy layer of cheese. I do not prefer a lot of cheese and something tasted different about this one. Pepperoni was inconsistent and not much of it on the pizza. The undercarriage and crust saved this pizza for me as that was definitely the best part. I've had several items on their menu at several different times. I feel like it is hit or miss with them. The last 2 times I got food delivered the teenage drivers forgot something or delivered the wrong order. In person I have also had some mix-ups. I recently ordered a large pizza - half cheese, half mushrooms. My pizza (see picture) barely had any mushrooms on it. It was also cut awkwardly so less than half of pizza had the few mushrooms on it. It's just really frustrating especially when you have to pay extra for toppings. I don't think I will be dining here anymore, there are lots of other local pizzerias to choose from. read more

I am a pizza snob from New Jersey and to tell you the truth it's very hard to find good pizza in Connecticut even though the governor put a big sign as you enter the state that states it is the Pizza capital country. Beautiful sunny day when we started so sat under a big red umbrella for lunch at Cromwell Pizza and Pasta. Ordered a Katie's Favorite Panini to share and have had this one before with its grilled chicken, provolone, roasted red peppers with pesto and mayo. This is the best! This place is consistently on the money with the best calzones in CT, hands down! The dough is super thin, light, and tasty. They don't use a heavy, thick dough. It's just perfect. The pizza was the best thing we got tonight. I loved the charred crust and the taste of the sauce. I got the Capri panini with grilled chicken and pesto, it was pretty dry. The grilled chicken didn't have a lot of taste. I would definitely come back just for the pizza. We also got a side of curly fries and they were delicious, they had a little kick to it. It's... okay. Not good, not bad, just average. Before I launch into the review, I will preface this by saying I have never had the pasta or sandwiches from this place. Therefore, this review is focused entirely on their pizza, salads, garlic knots, etc. Moving on... There are lots of pizza places to choose from in the Cromwell area, and there is nothing really about this place that stands out above the rest. Nothing wrong with the food persay... it just doesn't really stand out as a particularly excellent (or bad) choice. The biggest selling point for Cromwell Pizza & Pasta is they are open 7 days a week and they also deliver. Many of the better pizza places in Cromwell are only open 5-6 days a week, and most do not deliver. What a great meal! From start to finish, I was thoroughly impressed. We got off to a shaky start, when we weren't seated right away. We stood at the hostess station for about five minutes. When I realized there were only two waitresses, I relaxed a little. One of the women greeted us, and we told her that we preferred to eat outside. We grabbed a corner table, closer to the road. We were promptly brought a basket of bread & butter, our silverware and napkins. Drinks were ordered and delivered within minutes. There is a children's menu, but we decided to order a side of meatballs for my son. My husband and I shared and Antipasto salad and the Caboose pizza. The salad was large and had crispy lettuce, salty prosciutto, firm roasted red peppers, delicious Kalamata olives (I normally hate this variety), black olives, artichoke hearts, mozzarella, shreds of carrot, tomatoes and cucumber. We chose the lemon vinaigrette, which complemented it perfectly. It is now my favorite salad! My three year old son, who doesn't normally eat a lot of meat, devoured almost an entire meatball (about 3" in diameter). Of course I had to try it for myself. The texture and density were perfect. There was a slight cheese flavor, but it wasn't overpowering. It was also cooked just right, not too greasy. I'll definitely be ordering a side the next time we visit. Our pizza was served piping hot. It was the picture of beauty, covered in; chicken, bacon, red onion and BBQ sauce. The sauce was a little sweet for me, but a sprinkle of pepper remedied that. I savored the pizza, but couldn't wait to get to the crust. Slightly burnt and crunchy, just the way I like it. I'm slightly regretting it now (son is wide awake), but we couldn't leave without trying the cannoli. We ordered two, one for my husband and the other for my me and my son to share. They were served on one dish and plated beautifully. The filling was a little looser and smoother than I am used to, but it tasted awesome! This was my first takeout experience and it is now my new favorite pizza place in the area. I ordered a small garden salad and it was a huge portion, very fresh and the house dressing which is a creamy balsamic is delicious. They also threw in a couple rolls. The pepperoni sausage pizza was thin, crisp and cooked to perfection. The buffalo wings were crispy and everything just tasted super fresh! What happened to the pasta fagioli? Used to be the best in town, I would go out of my way for a quart or two regularly. But now it's flavorless, the color & consistency are off and it's rarely hot. Used to be served with a couple pieces of bread for dunking, now there is no bread and the soup is lukewarm. Was my go-to for a long time, I don't think I will ever order it again. First time visit. Other than the very loud teenage birthday party (9-10 teenage girls), the place was great. The garlic knots were amazing as was the pizza. Server (Mimi) could've been a little friendlier but she was efficient. The little girl customer who was in there (possibly Leela Grace) was cute but she kept bothering her mom (a waitress) while she was trying to wait on guests. She also kept interrupting our server (who may have been her grandmother "Mimi"). The little girl was sitting with her dad but she wouldn't listen to him....kept getting up, running around, interrupting her mom and grandma while they worked. She threw a tantrum once when she got in trouble for something and then threw a piece of pizza on the floor. We've been trying many different pizza places trying to find one we like. Well our search can finally stop. We found it. We ordered a large all mozzarella with eggplant on one half and bacon, pepperoni and sausage on the other half. It was delicious! Then today we wanted to order out and, of course, this is the first place we thought of. We had their Buffalo wings which are amazing. We love that they put the sauce in the side. Also had their pasta Fagioli which I've already raves about. We had an eggplant parmigiana grinder. I have trouble finding eggplant I like because I like it cut very thin and not drowning in sauce. Just enough to know it's there. Well, let me tell ya, this was amazing. Soooo delicious. I am hard-presses to find a food item we don't like. This has become our "Go to" place. Never disappointed in the food. Sometimes the delivery takes longer than they tell me. It annoys us because then the food is cold. This is consistently the only issue we have. But the food is so good I can't let that stand in the way. I just wish that was dialed in as nicely as the food. But do yourself a favor and give them a call. Located in the heart of Cromwell, on Main Street, this little gem is a must try. They offer great pizza and pasta. We were greeted by a friendly staff member. We ordered the spaghetti/meat balls and the baked gnocchi. Both had great flavors and tasted delicious. The side salads were well portioned. They have both inside and outside dining. Also Friday night's they have live music. Don't forget they offer BYOB. The local Clippers Magazine has a variety of coupons, but if you forget your coupon don't worry their prices are reasonable. Enjoyed this local spot. Stopped in late on a Friday night and there was only one other couple but I think that this is more of a family spot. Chicken Parmesan came with two pieces - one was really tender, one was a little tough so we would definitively order again to see what the norm is. I ordered something "arrabiatta" and was surprised that it didn't come out with a red sauce - it came with a wine sauce that was jazzed up. No problem with that but I thought it was worth mentioning for others since I've never seen that before. Some Dinners come with EITHER salad or pasta so I would suggest pasta and then ordering a large salad for multiple people to share - seems it would be the better deal. The food is delicious here. Only one time they burned the garlic knots but i didn't care because everything is so good. Besides the garlic knots, we ordered the vegetable pizza. They have the best pizza dough around - it is on the par with Brooklyn, NY pizza - which says a lot! The only negative i can think of it they don't cut the veggies smaller. The kitchen prep people could just be busy but it's one thing i think they can improve on. The same for the salad, the tomatoes are huge, and other items in the salad as well - too big, lol. But it's really a minor flaw considering how yummy everything on the menu is. And their desserts are excellent too. Service is fast and if you order on the phone they are always so friendly.
