Extremely disappointed. We made a reservation for 8 people, yet when we arrived, our table had been given away. I have never experienced that before. What was most frustrating was the lack of effort to make the situation right. While we ultimately stayed, our party was split between separate tables, and there was no attempt to accommodate us by rearranging or combining tables so that our group could sit together. We received little more than a brief apology and were left to make the best of a situation that shouldn't have happened in the first place. Unfortunately, the service issues continued throughout the meal. Our appetizers and main courses were brought out at the same time, making it feel rushed and poorly coordinated. As local residents, we were especially disappointed. We try to support local businesses and chose Southampton Publick House for a gathering with friends and family. Instead, a reservation we planned around wasn't honored, our group couldn't sit together, and the dining experience felt disorganized from start to finish. A reservation should mean that a table is reserved. Unfortunately, this experience left a very poor impression. read more

Stopped in for dinner. Food was subpar, drink prices are outrageous, even for Southampton's standards. Boneless wings are Sysco nuggets, burgers are small and under-seasoned. Service was fine. This was our first time to the Southampton Public House. She explained some items on the menu ( I told her I was a newbie here) and I decided to just stick with the basics, to compare with one of my favorite burger places. The burger 8oz sirloin was huge and juicy cooked with a nice pink center and charred outside, which I love that combo, served with lettuce and tomatoes, shoe string fries and a pickle. The burger was great. My wife had the pumpkin ravioli, which came in a creamy Parmesan cheese sauce. She loved it! Struggling between 3 stars and 4 stars because the food was great, but the service was absolutely terrible. We were here on a weekday afternoon during off season. There were a few tables indoors as well as a few outdoor tables in the back, but the place wasn't overly packed. Our waitress greeted us and took our drink order, then disappeared for a while. Drinks were slow to come out. We had to beg the busser for water after about a half hour and asking our waitress for water three separate times. My burger came out without the caramelized onions I asked for, but our waitress was nowhere to be found and I was hungry so I just went ahead and ate it. The food was solid - my burger was cooked perfectly despite the missing onions. The wings we ordered had great flavor and were crispy and juicy. We asked for napkins that never came. Came here with some friends during the holiday weekend of July 4th. We were on a little Southampton bar crawl and came across this place. We sat out in the back bar area with a very nice bartender. We just came here for drinks and to hang. I got a moscow mule and my other friends got a beer, wine and some other cocktail. The only downfall of this bar was that the beer selection was not that great. Wish to have seen more, oh well. We did not have any food so I can't comment on that part. But this atmosphere felt very beach town scene. They have an indoor area that was very nice as well. There is a bar in front area too. The outdoor part had tv's as well to watch sports with family and friends. If I am ever in this town again may come to try out some food and maybe a different cocktail. read more

One of the meanest waitresses we have ever had, tried to charge us gratuity without telling us and then when we questioned why she told us to "google it" The food was sub par and the bussers kept taking our food away while we were still eating. I understand restaurants charging gratuity for parties over 6, we were 7, however I am always informed ahead of time or can see it written somewhere- never have I been told to "google it" and told it's a law- well it's not it's a restaurant policy but it is legal for parties over 6. Stopped in for lunch on a Birthday trip out east for a couple of days. This is a very nice looking place in the heart of Southampton, on Jobs Lane. I got lucky & found a parking spot right in front of the place. The service was fine, friendly and attentive. I ordered a burger, medium rare & told the server I did not want onions or pickles on the plate. The price was pretty reasonable for the Hamptons in July. Well, after about a 15 minute wait, my burger arrives. What's on the plate? A large pickle. Ok. Not a biggie. What WAS a biggie was my burger was not prepared even close to medium rare. It was well done, and I do not like well done meat, ever. There wasn't even a hint of pink. I could taste that the meat was fresh, but when it's that overcooked, I just don't enjoy it. It is an awesome place to eat. The people who work there give great service and go that extra step to make your dining experience fantastic. The food is delicious and as are the drinks. Casual comfortable atmosphere. A place you can go back to over and over again. Crowds teem in in summer months and blow out in late September Enjoyable pub dining and good tap beer can be had in a large open dining area with high vaulted ceilings. Stained glass and warm colors inside. Or you can sit at the bar. Irish nachos for one were really meant for three. Good vegetarian three bean chili was well liked and wedge salad was pretty standard and a good choice. Fish and ships were made of cod and delicious. Tap beer Saison is a Public House exclusive . The last time we visited the Publik House, it was on the square that housed the former beloved McCarthy's Restaurant. Now it's in town, and it's a great stop for a cold beer and good food while in town. We both went with a pint of Keller Pils. Great choice! The Mrs. had a medium rare cheeseburger (cooked perfectly) and I had a delicious french dip. Great fries on the side of both. The space looked nice and we enjoyed lunch at the bar. What happened to you, Southampton Publick House. You used to be cool. Well, I guess you are still cool. Just the wrong kind of cool. Let me explain. I visited you way back a few summers ago. Ya know, back when you were still at your original location. Back when you were a little more dark and divey and kind of classically set up. Okay, maybe you seemed a little rundown, but you had a lot of charm in that decor and setup. You put a heavy impression on me and my early beer-ventures. Today, (or back in August when I visited the new spot), you seemed to tap into a different kind of Southampton. You found the "party" Southampton and transformed into a place more about the contemporary Long Island and less about the vintage. Less about the beer. That's my biggest gripe, SPH. Your beer is pretty darn good (Double White!), and yet it's like an afterthought. When I visited you (okay, enough second person), when I visited with my beer drinking buddy, it was tough to know what brews were available, if they did flights, and to actually get the beer to the table (slow service). *Sigh.* Beyond beer, yeah the place has a nice setup. There's a great outdoor section and there's a woody "house-ness" about the setting. But it's not the same. As for food, I didn't dine way back at the original spot, but I did that recent August evening. A tasty yet thin clam chowder and a two piece plate of fish and chips made up the meal. Great pieces of flaky cod and decent fries, but for $18, kinda small....I dunno. Overall, Southampton Publick House was once about the beer, though it doesn't entirely feel like that anymore. Is this a Southampton spot worthy of a visit? Perhaps (It's like a 2.5 rounded up). But if you ever went to the original SPH, don't expect that here. Just keep your cool and remember, there's plenty of beer on this isle to be drank beyond this one spot. read more

My first experience with this venue was at its original location- 2 locations ago. I actually had my wedding brunch at that venue when it used to boast a microbrewery in house. (Do they still have the beer flights?) It's since changed spots twice now and this new space is bright and lively and still has that new car smell. Tucked in between merchant shops on the strip that help create that small town feel yet even though the window designs look chic & expensive. Ample parking on the street or in parking lots behind some of the shops. And while the address may have changed, it's nice to see the quality of the food and the variety has not wavered. The tuna tartare is perhaps one of my faves but there is a little something for everybody. If you happen to be in the hamlet of Southampton, I do encourage you to stop by. Our Sunday funday outing did not miss a beat with football, as well with the delicious and unseasonably warm October weather, the bay windows and doors were all open so it created a nice airy, breezy feel.
