Walking in really reminded me of old school pizzerias from the '80s. Don't misunderstand. I'm not saying it looked outdated. It just had a true pizzeria vibe that I remember growing up. The wood on the walls. The floors. The red bench seats. All old school pizzeria. None of this new fancy art Deco stuff. I was simple. I ordered regular cheese slices. There are so many specialty slices offered. If you go. Be adventurous. I didn't go old school and get a fountain drink, I got a bottle Snapple. The pizza had a slight snap of the bread when folded. I miss thin crisp Pizza with a snap. The pizza good flavor in fact I had two slices and went back for a third. The other thing I noticed is the breading didn't have added sugar. It's not easy to find a pizza place that doesn't add sugar to their dough. I had to ask to confirm and I was told no sugar. I really appreciate that. Southdown pizza has been here since we were kids. When we moved back to huntington with three kids we tried all the places. We didn't go here much and it was not our favorite. We moved away and the place got new owners and the place is much better. Comments from our party were: the sauce was very tasty, chicken in chicken parm was dry. Eggplant was tasty, but it was sliced so thin that the overwhelming flavor was bread crumb. I don't understand why most places do that. Cooks faster? Garlic knots were nice with a good chew. Pizza was thicker than the original Southdown, but better with a good chewy crust, good sauce and tons of cheese. read more

Really good Long Island Pizza available at Southdown Kitchen, and that's what I usually come here for. It's dirt-cheap for slices and they're very tasty indeed. Tried this place for the first time because we got one of those coupons in the mail for a cheese pie, a meatball hero, a dozen garlic knots and a baked ziti for $30! That's a great deal in any inflationary era where gas is over $4/gallon. While the pizza could have used another minute or two, the sauce was good. The knots were ok, but kinda doughy, the baked ziti was the worst of the bunch as it lacked flavor, as bland as boiled ziti without sauce, but! ......the meatball hero was off the hook! Excellent meatballs, great flavor, good texture and tasted great! I'd go there just for the hero. I'd never go back without the coupon though. Broadway pizza is better for their pies. read more

Worst pizza I've ever had. We got this pizza because we saw it on the cover of Newsday... we were so excited and it unfortunately was not what we expected. The Big Mac pizza was clearly not a Big Mac but cheese burger ingredients on a piece of pizza dough. There is no big mac speciality sauce taste, and the cheese is clearly just squares of Kraft thrown on it. Way too over priced!!! When she told me that I called them to find out what had happened. They said that she was very confused and the owner was worried about her so he told them to go over and check up on her. That was so kind of them. It's nice to know that there are still, thoughtful and kind people out there that do the right thing. Best Pizza in town! Southdown Pizza Kitchen is the best most convenient pizza place in the village of Huntington with its own parking spots right in front and the only pizza places that delivers and delivers pretty quickly. When you walk into the shop it is clearly and old school pizzeria feel just like it used to be back in the day. The pizza here is true to NY with a thin crust, high grade cheese, and homemade tomato sauce. In addition no one beats their lunch special of two slices and a soda for $5. When I come here i usually get a hero, salad, and a few slices. I tend to stick with the regular pizza but they do have few unique slices which are delicious also. For the heros they are all good and there is a hero of the day that they rotate through. My favorite is the eggplant parm and the Milani which is chicken breast with provolone and the works on it and the cook it in the oven till the cheese is gooey goodness. I need to stay little healthy though so I get the anti pasto salad which is made with meats,veggies, mushrooms and its packed to the top. This place does not skim out on portions. I love this place. I ate here almost every week for more than thirty years. I don't live on the island anymore and this place is one of the things I really miss. In fact whenever I come back to Huntington I make a point of stopping in to see the crew and have a slice and some garlic knots or something else. I love the heroes and calzone. Stopped in to this lovely pizza place and ordered a sweet and spicy chicken slice. They even entertained my obsession with spicy food and drizzle some pepper flakes and buffalo sauce on top. I didn't make it home and ate the entire slice in the car great customer service also. read more

This place continues to get better each year. They're polite on the phone and they deliver which are both huge positives. But most importantly, the food is good and decently priced. Their regular pizza is delicious and their garlic knots are great. Also good hero's. But they also have a rather extensive menu which I look forward to trying! Mediocre pizza and terrible customer service. Ordered two pizzas with toppings. When I got home, the wrong topping was on one of the pizzas. I called in to address this, and I was told that I had indeed ordered meatball and not mushroom. I explained that I have never ordered meatball in my lifetime. She responded by saying that meatball was written down (note that anything written down was by them - not by me.). After having my weekly 2 slices here at Southdown today and then later on have some little V's I have come to make up my mind that as far as "Classic" style pizza goes, Southdown has the top slice in Huntington and more than likely the surrounding areas. Their slice here is super crisp, thin and made with a good quality flavorful cheese. Again being said this is not a shiny new looking place with all sorts of crazy slices that cost $5 per slice, this is a throwback pizza joint, but the slices are great! There's something as well that they add in the pizza dough that gives it a extra crispy but not chewy texture? Almost flakey-ish, perhaps butter or olive oil? After just eating what feels like the thousandth disappointing baked ziti dish in NYC, I decided to finally give some internet props to the place that made me who I am today. Southdown EFFING Kitchen. Pizza's great. Meatballs are great. Everything's great. But I grew up on their baked ziti. Ohhh my sweet JESUS their baked ziti. The sauce is absolute perfection. Thick but not chunky. Sweet, salty but not too much of either. Distinct and unique, for sure. They put NO ricotta in their baked ziti. I love this. Everywhere else loads it in, making the dish dry, bland, and mac n' cheese-like. Also, when you ask for extra mozz and well-done, they LISTEN. Even without the modification, the cheese has bubbly brown spots, but I like it super brown. The mozzarella is delicious, salty and stringy. If i had to give constructive criticism, I'd say the pasta can at times be a little overcooked. But seriously, everything else about the dish is so amazing, I don't give a shit. If it weren't probably close to 1000 cals, I'd get it every time I went home to my parents' place. But damn right I'm getting it this weekend! Oh, and get a meatball or two on the side. Some long time employees have take over ownership and REALLY breathed some new life into this old school pizza joint. It's nice to see that a passion for cooking has re-emerged, and the new varieties of pizza, and pasta are excellent. Every time I go back I see they're fixing something new, or hanging up new pictures. I expect to continue to see great things from this place. I have noticed something in pizza quality in general ......Some places have the smoother & lighter cheese that goes down easy -- and some have the too-elastic cheese. I guess , the later is cheaper quality? Well Southdown uses the elastic cheese that takes forever to chew. Sorry but Huntington has like 35 pizza parlours (the best is Portofino !) so no reason that you can't find your perfect inner-cheese and I prefer mine soft. read more

I'm giving this review two stars, because I really like their Mac n cheese pizza. Sadly my experience tonight started off with them being out of it. I was a little bummed out, but you can't expect to get everything you want during a pandemic, right? You should atleast be able to have some friendly service though! My boyfriend and I were the only two people in the store and a young guy came up to take our order. He took the slices my bf ordered and put them in to heat up and didn't come back. So I waited patiently, so I could add on my slices. While I'm waiting another lady walks in and the woman working told me very rudely that I needed to move so the lady could order. I tried to explain that I was actually in the middle of ordering my slices, but the guy hadn't come back to finish our order. She then yelled at me that the lady behind me needed to see the slices so she could order, to which I responded, but I'm here trying to do the same. I'm in the middle of my order. She then yelled at me that I needed to go sit down over there and could look at the pizza when the other lady was finished. When I sat down my bf asked what was wrong and I (slightly upset) explained to him what just happened. Once he stood up to say something the lady half ass apologized and said the woman ordered earlier (if that's true why did I have to move for her to choose pizza?) Decided to try to just brush it off and I went ahead and ordered two slices. They only gave me one of them... wtf?! At this point I didn't want to waste anymore time for just mediocre cold pizza. One and Done. What a disgusting and awful meal I just threw away. Southdown Pizza says it's been in business since 1967, I wonder if that's how old the piece of chicken I got was. Service was not friendly, I didn't get a "Hello" or "Can I help you" when I picked up my food. The words "Thank you" were also missing from their vocabulary. The chicken parm hero I got was dry, and actually looked like it was previously frozen. It was about the same quality as a high school cafeteria. My wife got pasta and meat sauce but there was no meat in it. Zero!!! It was once of the most bland and bitter sauces I've ever had. We had to throw our food away and go back out again for dinner. My hard earned money down the drain. The eggplant parmigiana delivered to my door last night was literally the best dish of that kind I have ever eaten, and since that is my go-to dish whenever I eat Italian, that says a lot. I've been going to Southdown pizza since I was a kid (I'm now 50) and I moved away but come back to town often. There are other pizza places in Huntington but to us, Southdown is authentic. My wife and I grew up in Huntington, and regularly ate at Southdown our whole lives. Whenever we come back to the island to visit, we always look forward to stopping in and getting our favorite eats. Lately, Southdown has really let us down. The baked ziti used to be saucy and cheesy, and a bit al dente. The last couple of times (we've been disappointed more than once), the ziti has been soggy, dry, and with barely any cheese. The pizza? Okay... We live in manhattan now so maybe I've gotten spoiled, but I do remember at least being able to finish a slice from Southdown... I can't now. The buffalo chicken slice is dry, bland, and also lacking cheese. I won't go into the fact that my delivery didn't even include everything I ordered.
