I was in the area and decided to stop by Southern Classic Chicken for dinner. Due to COVID-19, only drive-thru service was available, and there was a queue going out into the street. Nevertheless, the line did move at a reasonable pace and moved very fast after passing the speaker to order. The menu at Southern Classic Chicken is simplistic and straight-forward. Most of the menu items consist of fried chicken, chicken strips, and side items. I decided to order the three-piece "Jumbo" combo in dark meat, which comes with a side, roll, and a drink. I also ordered an apple pie for dessert. They serve Coca-Cola products at Southern Classic Chicken. Again, the queue moved much faster after placing my order, and after paying in one window and picking up at the next, I had to find a place to park and dine in my car. My food order did not come in a bag, but everything was in a box with a stack of napkins on top. After finding a decent place to park and eat, I opened my order, and it came with two thighs and a leg. French fries was the side--apparently the meal came with a choice of side item, but I was never asked what side I wanted--and there was a roll. Additionally, my apple pie was also in the same box. The chicken was delicious, and has a good crisp while remaining juicy. Despite the pepper on the restaurant's logo, the chicken was not spicy, so I would recommend one to order a jalapeno if they want some Scoville units with their chicken. The fries were of the thin fast-food variety, and kept crispy. However, they did not include ketchup with my order. The roll was kept warm and the apple pie was of the deep fried variety, much like what McDonald's used to serve before they started baking them. Overall, the meal was delicious! There is a good reason for a queue of cars going from the drive-thru to the street at Southern Classic Chicken--the food is wonderful and the service was friendly. This is a place I will certainly want to return to when I am back in the area! read more

It was also always hot and crunchy. I'm not sure what they put into it aside deliciousness. The fries or mashed potatoes were always good to get as a side to counter the chicken flavor. When you get fries, you always get plenty so I think the fries are it. Overall, a really good place for fried chicken if you can wait in line. So many times and I'm sick of it. You got uneducated workers there that can't even count how many pieces of chicken to put in the box. This time I ordered 16 piece, and they put in 8. It's really bad that I can't even trust these workers to do simple count of beginner-level job they work for. No good reason for me to count after them to see if they even get my order right. I have always been a huge fan of Southern Classic until tonight. I just purchased a mixed family order which comes with one " large" side. I purchased an additional " large" size item. My bill totaled almost $35.00. Upon my arrival home I found that I was given 2 half breasts, 2 small wings , I small thigh and 6 legs! To me legs are absolutely the bottom of the barrel of the chicken pieces unless you are under 5 years old! To add insult to injury the two sides were only filled 2/3 . The side containers seemed to be smaller than a few years ago as well. This company has developed an incredible following, it is disappointing that greed has caused the above behavior. I am done with Southern Classic. Unless you want to pay premium prices for legs I strongly advise against purchasing chicken from this company read more

Staying in Shreveport overnight and checked Yelp for a dinner recommendation. We could not ignore the reviews for this place. All I can say is THANK YOU YELPERS!! This fried chicken is awesome!!! I didn't give it 5 stars because there is no seating and the staff wasn't super friendly. But the chicken made up for any shortcomings. We pick up on the Mansfield rd location. The fried chicken breasts are just top notch, delicious and what we always get. Sadly, the sides all SUCK. We would pick up a whole lot more if they could cook their sides as well as their chicken. Why they do not is a mystery to me. I have asked them to fry their french fries extra crispy brown. They told me they are cooked, we do not want to burn them. I told them that I cook them nice an brown at home. Does not help. So greasy that I get horrible heartburn after just a few bites. To me they are limp, greasy, unedible. The red beans and rice have no flavor and are like blah mush. And no biscuits! What is with that? So we rarely go over there. Do not want JUST fried chicken. If they had biscuits and honey I could be happy with that. But rolls? Geez--. So ok. We will just go once in a blue moon, but I would think that they could cook the french fries like McDonald does. This chicken spot is worth the detour on a trip from Shreveport back to Dallas! I ordered the 3 piece white with fries with a lemonade It was perfect! They have a drive thru so I used it. Most places usually put some sort of seasoning salt or spice over the chicken before being served this place doesnt. They do it to the fries but not the chicken. At first I was let down that they didnt put any seasoning over my chicken but after my first and second bite I realized it didnt need it because the chicken was very tasteful. Was really excited to try this place based on the great reviews. While visiting a family member in the LSU hospital I sampled a 2 pc. dark with mashed potatoes & gravy. The chicken was yummy (isn't all fried chicken?) but the mashed potatoes weren't even remotely good. They tasted faintly of Indian food (turmeric possibly?). I arrived about 30 minutes after they opened and I wasn't impressed with the service I received at all. My boys and I planned our Dallas to Monroe trip around the operative hours of Southern Classic Fried Chicken...yep, it's that good. They opened at 1030 on Saturday and in heading back to Dallas we pulled into the drive-thru at 11 with one car in front. As we left, cars were in the street as the drive-thru was now full. Fast, patient and friendly service, excellent chicken that's crispy and flavorful down to the bone, fries were salted just right, not dry or over fried, and not full of grease. We ordered a 5pc dark for 5.29 added on 4 rolls and a large order of fries for 3.69 extra. All bellies on fleek (lol) for under 10 bux. Hands down the BEST fried chicken you will ever eat!! It's like your Grandmother is back in the kitchen frying it up just for you. I purchased a large order of chicken to feed my family for my daughters funeral. I ordered all white meat because this is what my family eats. My daughters funeral was in Shreveport and her burial was in Ruston. I picked up my large order on my way out of town. When we went to eat my order was mixed. I called back on the next day and they would not even consider that our order was wrong because we didn't return it. Iam only 90 miles from the store.
