My Daughter ordered the hot link omelette $10.95 it looked a little over cooked to me. However. she liked it. I really like this place just think it is a bit to pricey. With 2 sodas our meal came up to nearly $35.00 not including tip,. I did make it in a while ago and had the Liver and onions. They were good just over cooked. Great breakfast specials for only $5.95 you can get a good full plate of food. Even though the specials looked tasty, we wanted fried chicken. My baby daddy and I both had the fried chicken breakfast with hash browns and pancakes meal was only $30 which is a great deal for the juicy delicious chicken and fluffy pancakes. The hash browns were crispy and cooked perfectly. Fresh squeezed OJ and delicious sweet teas and lemonades. Ever since relocating from the South to WA I've been searching for a good Southern restaurant. What a delight to finally stumble into Southern Kitchen. Upon arrival someone from behind the counter yelled sit wherever you want... we sat ourselves. About 6 minutes later the table directly to our left had not been cleaned. A server came over, walked around us, and cleaned the table. The server took the dishes to the back and came back out and took the drink order of the people who were getting ready to sit down at that table. Mind you we had now been seated for 8 - 10 minutes. He went back to the kitchen, filled the drink order, walked around us again without even a hello. He served their drinks and proceeded to take their food order. At this point 15 minutes has passed, and it is slow... Not sure what was happening here and why we were ignored; what I will say is that this table happened to be a table of Asian people. No offense to them, but I'm not sure why they were properly seated and promptly served while others waited. Maybe we did not look like we belonged, or maybe they have enough business that our cash doesn't matter. At any light, I won't be back and I will tell my story to all who ask. I've wanted to eat here for quite awhile and finally made it for lunch. It was SO good, although it was 2 days ago and I'm still not hungry. Catfish was delicious, cooked perfectly. The collards were smoky and bacony, just what they should be. We loved the cornbread dressing, would love the recipe for Thanksgiving. My husband had the fried chicken and loved it. The candied yams are to die for. For an appetizer, we got fried green tomatoes, they were perfect. And you have to have the mango lemonade, it was one of the best things I've ever had. My only regret was that we ordered too much food and there was no way we could eat dessert. My advice: order dessert first. read more

Loved the food here! The mango lemonade had actual chunks of mango in it, and the chicken fried steak was crispy and fresh. My girlfriend ordered the cod strips which were AMAZINGLY good. Their batter was nice and dry - I think they were baked. The peach cobbler was a little watery but it was still quite tasty. read more

There are two things I don't like about this place... That it is 250 miles away from my apt, and that I can't eat everything on the menu every time I am there. I try to stop here to eat whenever I go to Seattle for work. Everything I've had here has been good. Only issue here is the locals know it's good too, so if you go during the right (or wrong) time of day there can be a pretty good wait for a table, as the place is not particularly large. But I would completely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys soul/southern/comfort food. read more

First time going there on a saturday afternoon. Was thinking that maybe it will be nice and quiet. I was so wrong. This place was hopping! The service was actually quick for such a busy place. We had mango lemonade and strawberry lemonade. Very good and not too sweet. We tried the chicken fried steak and the cajun catfish strips. Both were tasty. I've lived in Washington for a majority of my life, left for two years and finally came back to try this place out. I saw this place from diners, drive ins and dives on the food channel and I'm so happy we decided to come here. This place is great! I ordered the chicken wing dinner with sides of collard greens and mac n cheese and a strawberry lemonade with whip cream. Omg, the chicken was so bomb! It came out so fresh and hot from the fryer and the breading for the chicken was amazing. Not greasy at all. The mac and collard greens were so good too. Everything wasn't too salty either. The portions sizes are more than proportionate for the price. It's actually almost on the cheap side for how much food you get. For the entrees they also give you a hot cake (cornbread pancake) that was so hella good too. My bf ordered the Cajun catfish strips with fried okra and mac n cheese. I'm not usually a fan of okra at all but that fried okra was on point! I can't wait to come back here. I want to try their tea next. Also, they do have daily specials that are 5.95 for a huge plate. Great place! Had an omelet which was awesome! The bacon that was in it must of been smoked, which was a pleasant surprise. It was so good, It rivaled the Amish bacon I've had in Indiana. It's always a hit or miss whenever I come here. I used to live down the street and I would come in often until I moved further away. Their breakfast deal is really a deal and I do love their corn cakes. Only thing is that its a bit small and comrades inside so once its packed inside its a bit of a struggle to get out. Its decorated to fit the theme, so prepare for lots of yellow and at home decor. Although every employee has been friendly, I would say that the food is just alright. Place seen on DDD, so I gotta try it. Ordered fried chicken, greens, beans, and cornbread stuffing. All orders came with a great corn meal pancake. Fantastic lemonades, many different flavors, drink comes in a huge glass jar that has fruit in it. The fruit in the drink is the flavor of the lemonade ordered. Enjoyed the meal although I thought the fried chicken batter could have had more zip & zap to it. I also sampled their mac & cheese, I liked it. I have been to this place a few times and it is decent. Their collard greens were not good, but maybe because of the vinegar taste, and besides I cook mines a lot better. I am from Georgia so this is about as close to good soul food that I will get. What makes me really go back is the sweet tea. It is beyond amazing and makes me miss home. read more

I have been there a couple times now and although it does satisfy my southern food cravings I tend to get being from Texas and all, I prefer BLACK Bear Diner for my chicken fried steak fix. I have been coming here with my family for years. It's my dad's favorite place, so we had to stop in for Father's Day. The sweet tea was quite good. The food has always been good too, and the portions are good. The place has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and has received numerous awards. Unfortuantely, it's hard to deal with how packed it is sometimes, but it's good that the place is packed. And I believe they do take reservations. Saw this place on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Thought we'd give it a try while visiting the area. Although the eggs, bacon and home made biscuits were fresh and tasty....I definitely wouldn't say they were outstanding in any way. Service was very poor. We had to flag someone down for a coffee refill and to get our bill (which wasn't brought to the table, only gestured for us to come to the counter to pay). I was hoping to try their cobbler that I heard mentioned to another patron, but since our waiter couldn't be bothered to come back to our table, I decided to spend my money elsewhere. What a disappointment this place was. I usually love little hole in the wall, mom & pop places, but wouldn't bother visiting this place again. We visited on a Thursday morning around 10am. There were five other patrons at the time, and two men serving. They spent more time behind the counter, talking to each other, than bothering to wait on the tables. These are genuine, funny and friendly people that labor their tails off to do it right. That's getting harder and harder to find on this Earth--especially in so-called restaurants.
