Where to start....... I always look at a restaurant online before I get there, in order to quit myself with what I will be eating. When I walked in, I could clearly see that this establishment is definitely still new in figuring out what sales and what does not and is support by the community which I can appreciate. But...... the menu is slightly different in the restaurant than online. They have limited drinks and they also run weekly specials from what I understand. The atmosphere itself was medium noise level but later one of the employees turned the music up so loud we had to leave because we were unable to talk without shutting. The food came out very quickly after we ordered and was not super hot, which was already a red flag for us. The chicken wings smell like they have been cooked in the fish oil, and when we inquired about it due to a food allergy, the kitchen was unclear whether or not the chicken wings were fried in their own oil or whether they were fried in fish oil. That resulted in us ordering something else from the menu, with no extra charge. I was looking forward to having the greens and cornbread, mainly due to how challenging, it is find southern food in this state unless you're cooking it at home yourself. The shrimp that we ordered was also not cooked fully, and I requested the kitchen to re-fry the shrimp. The greens at first tasted okay, but the more I ate them the less my stomach appreciated me. For me personally, I cannot recommend this restaurant and I also will not be returning. I feel horrible making this review and it has taken me several weeks to figure out exactly what to say. This review is one of the hardest restaurant reviews that I have done in a very long time mainly due to how hopeful I was, and the restaurant is within a community that is supporting them. Nothing we eat here was good, and I hope the restaurant can improve their food quality and stay consistent and safe for people that have food allergies. It would be different if all they served was fish and shrimp, which I understand if someone has an allergy, they should not be eating here, but the restaurant also serves ribs, wings, and turkey legs. Along with other sides that are available. Again with a heavy emphasis on the restaurant to please use different oils when frying foods and cook them to order. Anyone who has made fried chicken wings or fish at home or had it in another restaurant should know it takes a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes in order to cook them completely after ordering. These menu items should not becoming out of the kitchen within 10 minutes after ordering. As always, stay safe, healthy, and hungry out there. I'll see you all next time for my next review.

Craving soul food? Hot Fish House at 3926 100th St SW in Lakewood, WA 98499 has got you covered! I can't begin to tell you just how many times we have visited here and OMG y'all, OOOH MY GOODNESS, absolutely delicious!!! We love their catfish, pork chops, wings and their jumbo turkey leg triple stuffed with Mac & cheese, collard greens and jambalaya!!! To wash it all down, I suggest one of their adult icees, aka frozen daiquiris. But word to the wise, just be ready for a long nap, it's THAT GOOD!!! And the service? Super welcoming. They appreciate your business, especially me coming back time and time again. We live off the Hood Canal and let me tell you, it's totally worth the drive! Great vibe in here too. A few televisions, low and high top tables to sit at inside. Great music playing. Love the black and white checkered floor, the shiny red metal tables and chairs, and an old school red telephone booth you would find in the UK. Come early... it's Friday night and the amazingly super tender smoked turkey legs, okra and tartar sauce are 86'd.

That's Righteous Golden Goodness right there yall. Yessss Sir and Yes Ma'am!!!

Disclaimer: The issue starts at the asterisk if you not a reader. I write a lot. My pastor would sometimes say in his sermons: "The definition of crazy is doing the same thing again and mad because nothing has changed" On 8/30/25 My Son went in here round 7:30 pm-8pm to get me my favorite (and usually the best) fried catfish dinner. The ONLY place I went for my fried fish. I wanted shrimp added with mine and 'Mac'. He purchased 3 dinners. He and got his momma...what she asked for. I called to check on him cause my granbaby went with and to my delight...I could hear them in the background just conversing wit my son bout his son. They adored Gammies baby so much, they gave him a lemonade. To the point...(I know). ********************************** Their service and their Catfish is USUALLY.....never-fail. That is.... Until last night. The shrimp more than likely 'farm raised', as always were nice sized and this time had more flavor than usual. Even with good seasoning a person with a good palate--can discern between 'farm raised' and 'wild caught'. Restaurant Shrimp Game 101. If a restaurant DOES serve 'Wild Caught'--trust me when I tell you (AND it's a 'logical move' for a business owner) they will advertise that it is 'Wild Caught'. Why? Cause they want you to know...the higher price is for the BEST as they are harvested out of its NATURAL habitat. If you know...you know. But this is about that 'fish'. Horrible. Absolutely. Positively. POSITIVELY ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For one, I was missing a piece (usually 4 and the pieces were average size) but WORST!!!!..... I don't know WHAT that was but it wasn't CatFish. The flesh didn't even have the same flake texture as CatFish!!! THIS.... *Had NO CORNMEAL but some kinda 'fine breading' and... *Therefore wasn't fried HARD like I ALWAYS get. *Tha' real turn off--it was 'CHEWY' because it was 'slightly' undercooked annnd... *What this was...had absolutely NO FLAVOR of Fish!!!! Maybe that happened because it was 'watered out' from frozen...I don't know but... THIS WASN'T CATFISH!!!!!!! The flesh was much 'whiter', the flake of the flesh was larger than that of CatFish. To be fair, I started eating mine first and though I realized IMMEDIATELY something was wrong, I CHOSE not to say anything because well...maybe momma was just trippin' but my son sits down to enjoy his. I keep my eyes on the T.V and sure enough about 10 minutes in he says with a frown on his face: "Ma...this batch...ain't hittin...". Feeling bad that he spent almost $80 to get his momma right, his meal and his son's BUT relieved that I wasn't just 'ungrateful' or 'crazy'--I turned to him and said: "I'M SURE GLAD IT WASN'T JUST ME" We both were so disgusted! And I...felt horrible that I had him get it and wasted his money like that. The only good thing is (so far) no one had gotten ill. My stomach did 'turn' a bit only because all I could think was: "what did we just digest???" This is really sad for me. Cuz I LIKED this place but eating out is just getting really frustrating. I love patronizing a place owned by my 'own' but... More and more Restaurateurs (of any color/race) are becoming less concerned with quality. They start out/lure you with good quality and slowly graft in poor. Consumerism is a BEAST that can never die and Social Media is a remunerative carrier. No longer does one have to produce good quality. They just need...produce. This is the Hot Fish House. Fish is the specialty. Not wings. Not a damn Turkey Leg. If that's not tha' case then just call it: "All Types uh' S&@?....House" That way, I'm not as confused as I am now. No more "Maybe it was a bad day" mindset. I value my funds and my son's funds so purchasing 'plates of chance' is a STRAIGHT SOLID NO for me. Crazy...I am not. If this was a 'near closing' issue--I'll say this here. Stand by your name and always consider your reputation (if you care about it) in that-- If you close at 9 pm, your absolute best--should be provided until you flip that open light off and lock the door AFTER your LAST customer. That's a good and productive day and not a half-assed one. 2 stars for tha' shrimp.

A little bit of the southern comfort food, that reminded me of the Carolinas(low country). Food not over seasoned and cooked to perfection..Service was good, it did take a long time to get the food but it was worth the wait. The old school music playing inside was an added bonus. Truly refreshing to find a soul food restaurant.

I have had this spot on my bucket list for a while but the only days we were able to drop in were when they were closed. However, we got the chance to check them out on Sunday morning after dropping off our dog for a grooming appointment. We entered and were greeted with a gorgeous restaurant that was blasting soul music. There were a few people ahead of us which was fine as we got to look at the menu to see what we wanted. Our cashier was polite with us and made sure to read back our order to ensure it was correct. It was nice to listen to her sing along with the music playing too. I got the shrimp and grits while my boyfriend got the smoked turkey leg. Our order did take quite some time, like maybe 30-40 minutes but we enjoyed the vibes and each other's company. We later find out from our cashier/cook who told us that she saw we were busy chatting and wanted to make a fresh batch of grits for me so I'm grateful for that. The food was absolutely some of the best soul food that I think I had in Washington state, which I know may not be saying a lot but there are also a few Southern stables in Washington. The shrimp and grits were just heavenly and comforting. The smoked turkey leg is definitely worth the menu and you will be leaving with leftovers unless you have a big appetite. I also didn't know that it came with cornbread which was also so good as it is already sucked with some honey and it was just a fluffy sweet cloud. Just melts in your mouth! We also did get the sweet tea and it was probably one of the best sweet teas that I had ever had as it was simply refreshing! My only complaint was that my shrimp and grits was supposed to come with egg but I did not receive egg in my order which was disappointing since the female employee did mention she made my grits fresh. I was so hungry though so I just ate my food without thinking to ask. Other than that, we are definitely wanting to come back to try out some other dishes!

Easily a five star. I came on a Saturday night around 6 PM. Wasn't too busy, but they had a study crowd. Dude, it only took about five minutes and my order was ready. Everything was hot and fresh just the way I like it. The catfish has a great crisp And a flavorful batter yet the catfish itself is so light and fluffy. Amazing flavor. The prawns, get out of here. They had such great flavor and weren't overcooked. They were literally perfect. I can't wait to come here again and try something else. I'll be back!

5 Stars - Hands down the BEST experience I've had at a restaurant! I had the most amazing birthday surprise at HotHouse Fish in Lakewood, WA! I went there with my cousin after hearing all the hype, but when we pulled up, they were literally closing down for the night--chairs up, lights low, staff getting ready to leave because they had sold out of everything early (it was also super hot that day). I was so bummed, but I mentioned it was my birthday and that we had driven all the way out just to try their food. And y'all... the owner did not hesitate. He said, "All we have left is catfish," and then turned around and said, "It's on the house for your birthday." Not only that, he gave us free beers and even an orange soda for my cousin's daughter. They cooked up two orders of catfish and fries, just for us--even after a long, hot day when they were ready to head out. WHO DOES THAT?! The catfish? Crispy, flavorful, and cooked with so much love. The vibe? Even better. The kind of hospitality that makes you feel like family. I told him we'll definitely be back--again and again. I'm already planning my next trip so I can finally try their famous turkey leg! If you haven't been here yet, check out their menu and get there early--because when it's gone, it's gone! Thank you HotHouse Fish for making my birthday so special.

This place is popping on our visit. The parking lot was full & and the line was long. The only slightly confusing thing & maybe it's because they were so busy on our visit but it was difficult to distinguish where the end and the front of the line was. We ordered the seafood platter which stated it was enough for two adults. It came with two pieces for f fried catfish, shrimp, oysters & fries. We ordered plenty of sides too. Fried okra, greens, Mac & cheese, banana pudding & cobbler. While we were sitting & waiting for food, the owner went around & spoke to everyone. I loved that he came out to acknowledge the long wait & speak to his customers. He was so friendly & we had a great conversation with him. Our food came out hot & fresh. I have to say I really enjoyed their Mac& cheese here. It was flavorful & cheesy but not greasy at all. Most restaurants Mac & cheese just don't actually hit for me anymore & they most definitely do theirs right here. And the greens are absolutely cooked & seasoned to perfection. The greens are tender & infused with smoked meat. The fried okra was crispy & fried perfectly. The banana pudding was alright. Nothing to write home about. And the peach cobbler was good as well. The seafood platter was very well seasoned. The fish was fresh & fried a little hard. The shrimp was plump & juicy with a very nice batter. We ended up getting more catfish & the second time around it came out piping hot & the fish was crispy on the outside & nice & moist on the inside. Perfect! If we were in the area, I'd definitely come back. They are pretty well known for their turkey legs too. I saw a lot of people ordering them & I need to come back to try. But be sure to not park in the parking lot for the businesses next door. They will come out and say something to you.

Feels like home... Hot Fish House offers a welcoming and inviting atmosphere that's reminiscent of a classic East Coast eatery. While it may not have the modern, overly themed decor of some trendy restaurants, its simplicity is part of its charm. The clean and well-maintained space feels relaxed and comfortable, making it perfect for a casual meal with friends or family. There service won't let you down. I found the staff to be helpful as well as a pleasure to talk to. My food even came out relatively quick. Especially for fast food. The star of the show at Hot Fish House is undoubtedly the soul food. I ordered the catfish with greens and mac and cheese, and I was not disappointed. The catfish was cooked to perfection, with a crispy exterior and flaky interior. The greens were rich and flavorful, and the mac and cheese was creamy and indulgent. My friend's turkey leg was equally impressive, with tender meat and a delicious seasoning. Overall Impression: Hot Fish House is a hidden gem that offers authentic soul food in a welcoming and comfortable setting. Whether you're a local or just visiting the area, I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try. You won't be disappointed. In my opopinion, some of the best and well rounded soul food in the area!
